I've searched and searched in the forums, but can't find the correct procedural steps to fix this issue.
While attempting to install LN14.1 internally on my Nook HD+, I somehow screwed everything up and now it just repeatedly flashes the "nook" screen and doesn't continue on to the Cyanogen bootloader screen (or anything else for that matter). I've tried to boot to SD, but have been unsuccessful.
Every 2 seconds, the screen goes black, flashes the initial "nook" screen, then does it all over again. I've watched it go on for better than 15 minutes and nothing else happens. I eventually have to hold down the power button and the home button just to shut it down.
I really just need to find the correct procedure for getting back on-track. If I've screwed up the emmc, how do I start from scratch and at least get back to stock?
Can somebody please point me in the right direction? Can you link the thread that addresses this issue? I haven't been able to find it.
Thanks.
I have this problem too, only that I'm stuck at the TWRP recovery screen
You should search for the stock nook proprietary software. You should get a bootable sdcard recovery, install the stock software, let it factory reset, then reboot from sdcard recovery and install twrp 3.0.1 (I found newer versions **** up the internal emmc structure). Then flash whatever rom you want, or alternatively boot from the new recovery and restore a backup

Well here goes, I already reflashed the stock rom once from autonooter. 8 reboots then the stock rom becomes reflashed... Well in an attempt to return to stock 1.0 and install the updated autonooter I seem to have bricked my nook.
I can force reboot the nook 8 times and then the system update installed successfully... So it seems (progress bar reaches the end and nook reboots) but the splash screen is not stock! It runs the nook dev splash screen and will not boot. It will bootloop over and over. I tried another system reflash but same thing. What can I do?
Is it possible to run the autonooter sd card image ? Any other ideas?
Thanks
You need to wipe the NC. Power off. Hold power and home until it wipe screen appear. It might start wiping automaticlly or you may need to press home continue. Don't remember.
The 8 boot method is only half of the system wipe process. You still need to wipe /data. Steps to do that are at: http://nookdevs.com/Flash_back_to_clean_stock_ROM
It worked! Thanks
I could have sworn I did that several times. I had to hold both the power and nook button until the unit shut off. Then on the next boot attempt it gave me a data wipe option. Tricky little unit
Well I don't know what I did but this morning when my nookie froyo emmc was at 20 percent it decided to turn off and not turn on and won't turn on when charged and will not boot any sd cards. I feel stupid but after my nook working on emmc froyo for a week and now its not even turning on I feel very stupid. All help is appreciated, thanks!

Have you tried booting to the CWR card yet? And using Samuelhalff's zip that restores the stock partitions? This seems to have worked for many people experiencing the fatal Froyo crash. Take a look at the 'Easily Restore to Stock" thread found here in the Nook forums. And in the end if your device truly won't turn on, then chances are the guys down at B&N won't be able to either. *Warranty*
Well I have tried monster root pack as a card but I haven't tried stock partitioning,i dont know where the thread is. But will this let me even boot an sd card ?

Were you running froyo off emmc? If so:

I recommend flashing this ROM instead though (pre-rooted 1.1):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932145
And yes if you insert the CWR sdcard into the nook and hold the power button, it will power on. The reason it isnt powering on currently is because your froyo boot partition is corrupted, not because of the nook itself. The CWR sdcard has a different boot partition that your nook will see and boot to when you hold the power button down with the CWR sdcard in.

Thats my post from an earlier thread with someone having the same issues. It worked for him, it should work for you. Just make sure you follow the steps right and especially make sure your burning the Clockwork image to your SDcard correctly that way it will boot into Clockwork instead of staying black.
I'm gonna have to give these steps a whirl. The downloads are taking foreeeever.
Also had Froyo installed with CWM and just got finished installing gapps. I went to format an SD card, had no luck, and tried to reboot. Ol' Nookie decided not to come back to life after that.
edit: wait, instead of flashing the stock rom can I flash the pre-rooted 1.1 rom?
Just read this over on android central (in a thread about flashing honeycomb). I believe it is what I did and why my nook won't boot:
****While running Honeycomb from Internal Memory NEVER choose the option to format your SD Card from within Honeycomb. The files that were altered to let HC run internally will lead the OS to actually format your boot partition instead of your SD. If you need to format an SD, do it on your computer or in an Android phone, etc.*****

Drat. Just got my CWM image on my sd card. Here goes nothin! Will report back
OK, I have CWM booting off the SD card, i'm formatting system and data under mounts and storage, and then i'm installing the 1.0.1 complete restore. It goes through and then I got to reboot system. Then...nothing. Back to black screen. Help please!
I can pop the SD card back in and boot back to CWM. I've tried several times now with no luck
samuelhalff has a flashable zip that restores the boot partition for situations like this. Go look for it in the development forum. you should be able to flash it using CWR and your NC ought to boot.
eyecrispy, thank you! samuelhalff's boot zip followed by his 1.0.1 complete restore zip did the trick.
RileyGrant, thank you for your post as well. Much obliged!!
Mine just shows a blank screen. All I did was boot into ClockwordMod Recovery, make a backup, then reboot. I was going to flash the Honeycomb Rom, but decided to give it some more thought first. Now All I get is the blank screen, it won't power all the way off, and it won't power on or anything
EDIT: Managed to get it to turn off, but when I turn it back on it boots into recovery. I select Reboot System now, and it reboots back into recovery. Forgive me, I'm so new to this Nook Color thing lol
EDIT AGAIN: Tried using the Monster Pack or whatever, flashed the removeclockwork.zip, followed by the installclockwork.zip, then removed the SD card, rebooted, and went right back into Clockwork Recovery. What gives?
YUP Same thing happened to me. I have read all the posts in this thread and i did try to format the card i had in my nook in the brand new phiremod froyo rom. Now it wont boot at all. I have a CRW card on hand and it wont even boot that. Idk right now, nothing is working.
Try reading through the Dummies Guide to Fixing 'My Nook Won't Boot'.
I did it last night and I'm back up and running again. Here's my post for an abridged version of what I did last night: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11374824&postcount=29
I had the same problem until I flashed the repartition fix.
Give that a try
I've got the exact same problem as the OP. Running Froyo on EMMC with no problems for a few days, then I left it for a while and now it wont turn back on or boot from uSD.
I've tried long presses on the power key, usb cable power up, but nothing works. I've tried the v4 HC image and the clockwork recovery image and neither are booting.
I verified the CWR image on my android phone and it does boot on my phone, so the image is definitely okay.
Hate to think it, but could this be a battery management issue in the 0.6.7 image and the battery is now screwed? Doesn't seem like boot partition corruption to me.
Any comments or suggestions are welcomed

how did you get yours to turn off, my screen says loading... and is stuck there. any help in getting mine to shut off would be helpful
Does holding power button for a few seconds turn it off?
Same thing happened to me, this fixed my problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986977
Sorry for asking what's probably a silly question, but I haven't seen an answer. Is this known to the Nookie dev(s) and being addressed? Just had it happen running Nookie 0.6.8 off the SD card. I was really enjoying it and just telling the wife how I think I'll flash it to the eMMC, but I might have to reconsider if this might occur. Battery was ~80%, no goof-ups reformatting anything. Locked the screen around 1:10 this afternoon & hadn't touched it since. Got home about an hour ago to turn it on, nothing. Disappointing, Nookie is pretty good!
nook color wont turn on
so what to do if i dont have a sd card with cwr or honeycomb (what i was trying to run)ive already called for the replacement, but i would still like to know what to do.
I found this thread after suffering the same or similar problem to everyone else. I turned off the screen and set my nc aside for a few minutes, then it would no longer boot. Screen just stayed black and was completely unresponsive to any input. Working my way through some troubleshooting, I plugged the nc into my computer via USB and it booted into CM7 instantly. I have no idea why this happened, but it's working fine now.
Ok so here's what happened.
I rooted my nook with autonooter 3.0.0, then I installed rom manager to install cwm. I installed the latest version of cwm and I tried to make a backup, it ended up in my nook only booting in cwm. So I found a cwm removal script and removed cwm. I booted my nook and opened rom manager and I decided to try an older version of cwm. I pressed make a backup in rom manager and it just went into a boot loop. I can't really turn off my nook, and I can't really turn it on. It just keeps going to "touch the future of reading", then turns off, then a couple of minutes later, goes back to "touch the future of reading". To make it clear, I do not have a backup.
So can anyone please assist me in fixing my nook? I'm in a dead end here.
Sounds like a boot loop try
Method one: Eight interrupted Boots
1. Power off the nook.
2. Tap the power button.
3. As soon as Welcome to the future of reading appears, hold the power button down to interrupt the boot process.
* If the boot animation does not appear, add 1 to your interrupted boot count.
* If the boot animation DOES appear, your interrupted boot count is reset to zero. Start over.
4. Repeat from step 2 until your failed boot count reaches 8. At this point, the nook will re-flash its /system partition. You will see the process on the right.

i went through this yesterday... i was told you can't brick a nook color so I restored it back to the original firmware...go to this website www.theunlockr.com then click the how to's then go to Android and look for Nook Color then look for how to restore to stock firmware and follow the instructions. they worked for me and I'm sure they will work for you also...Good Luck

Thing is, I can't power off or power on the nook.
I'm going to try and restore it to stock.

You need to boot a stock image. Try this link http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...ll-clockwork-recovery-revert-stock-image.html
I'm So hoping someone will help me, I tried to root my device but it didn't work I couldnt get off the software so I installed 2gb clockwork 0.7 and nook complete restore 1.0.1 I followed all tutorials carefully, but when it comes to restore data it says no files found. Lost, I went ahead with the restore. It appeared to work except now I get a message flashing up that I cant read the screen just flashes and I think the partitions are lost too. I'm on the verge of tears. (im a girl dont judge) lol. And I'm lost with my expensive doorstop. PLEASE can anyone help me fix this as i'm at a loss (
No need to worry. The nice thing about the NC is that it will always boot from the SD card first. Sounds like you tried this...I suggest deleting everything you have (clockwork mod files, stock restore files etc) re-download everything and start fresh.
on your computer, format your uSD card, use Win32DiskImager to flash the clockwork mod boot image onto the uSD card and copy over the stock restore files. Place the uSD card into the NC and reboot. you should boot into clockwork mod and from there you can install the stock zip file from the uSD card.
GL!
Thanks,
I managed to get it working by resetting 8 times and booting a factory reset, but now it wont install any updayes and i'm stuck on the poo 1.01 software. I tried putting the official update on clockwork and booting from there but it says file bad with any version I use (screams in frustration)
This will fix your partitions
It was awhile ago, so I don't remember the exact steps, but the following file will fix everything...
nookie-froyo-0.6.8.custom.3.zip
When you unzip it you will get the following:
nookie-froyo-0.6.8.custom.3.img
You will need a program like 'WinImage' to write this image file to your SD Chip. Once done, boot your Nook with this chip and install Froyo. You probably don't want Froyo, but thats OK. This is just the first step... but it is key.... This install will 100% recreate and fix all your partitions.
Now you have two choices,
1. Find a stock nook image, and install it to your nook. I think it is 1.01
or
2. Find 'boot.img' and 'system.img' for the nook color. Write those to a bootable SD chip and install.
I am not sure if it was #1 or #2 that worked for me. Try #1 first. If it works, you will be able to start up your nook and register it with B and N. Then you can download their 1.2 update and install it as they instruct.
Good luck.
Follow this thread and you can get it back to original stock 1.0 or 1.01 and then do the updates as normal by waiting for OTA or sideloading them.

Thank you guys I've followed your steps and also looked around this site and im back on the latest stock software. I appreciate your help
i am stuck on a boot loop that flashes to a green cyanogen symbol that says loading underneath. it shows this for about 3 secs then cuts off. the screen flashes two or three times then right back to the same screen. Over and over. I cannot cut it off. Cannot get into Clockwork recovery...cant do anything. ive re-formatted my sd card and loaded a bootable image to take it back to stock and try and start over...but it just continues to loop the green cyanogen loading screen loop. Cannot power it on or off. It can run dead and when i plug it in, about ten minutes later it starts right back into this loop. Even if i take the SD card out it does this. I have taken the SD card out and let the battery run dead and plugged it back in to no avail.
seems I cant get it to even look for the SD card.
The nook was running fine with cm7 installed. I went for about 2 months without using it and plugged it up and it loaded to this.
I have searched for several days with no luck. Most everything I find involves getting into clockwork recovery and re-flashing or whiping cache and data...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
more info
i just formatted my Sd card and loaded a fresh clockwork mod. put it in and low and behold it now booted to a screen with two little skulls and says loading. HOWEVER...it just repeated its stupid loop with no control and instead of showing the cyanogen loading screen it shows the skull loading screen...then just rinse and repeat. No ability to boot into anything...power on /off anything. I removed the sd card and it automatically reverted to the green cyanogen loading bootloop.
using logic here..im guessing it is looking for the sd card or else it wouldnt have went to the cmr loading screen from the sd card.
Im wondering now if it is a hardware issue...
anyone ever seen this?
You probably are in a recovery bootloop. Look at the links in my signature to see how to get out of it. Both the tips thread and maybe the partition repair thread.

thanks, trying it now...
ok..i am getting somewhere. I was able to boot into the cyanboot universal bootloader. I went to the menu and selected "internal emmc normal' it says loading emmc..then just reboots back to the cyanboot bootloader screen. says loading then loops.
i have read your fixing the partition post but want to be sure where to begin or if I need to go there yet..
thanks so much for your help.
Did you use my new CWM SD I had in my tips thread? If you tried that and were not able to clear the flag by exiting with the reboot option, you need to repair partition 2. But be sure to try my CWM first. It is modified to help get out of the loop.
Edit: just reread your posts again. It sounds like you did try my CWM card if it booted to cyanoboot boot loader. But cwm is not coming up? You are not going to be able to flash my partition repair zips without cwm. Let me know, there may be a way to use adb to fix it.
Edit2: Another thing you can try is the eight failed boots reset. The nook has an automatic reset feature where if it cannot boot 8 times in a row, it will revert itself back to stock like it came out of the box. See this post below, it is the best description I've seen on how to make it happen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25405429
Edit3: I just did a little experimenting and found that the 8 failed boots only works if you still have the stock recovery on emmc.
Edit4: I added a section to my tips thread that discusses the 8 failed boots and provides a stock recovery zip.
Okay so i was gonna install a custom rom on my nook HD+ one of the steps was to delete system, data, and cache which i did.
After doing so i realized that adb was not recognizing the nook so i couldnt push what i needed to to get the install going and basically at this point, im stuck in a cwm recovery bootloop and cant seem to get anywhere.. i dont have a backup and was wondering if there was any way i could possibly get my nook booting again even if it means restoring to stock entirely (which i cant seem to find anything about)
as a side note, if i dont hold the power and n button on boot, it just sticks on the cyanoboot screen untill i hard shutdown and reboot holding them, then it loads the cyanoboot recovery or whatever
any help is much appreciated, ive searched and searched and cant seem to find any relevant information on the subject and nothing ive tried seems to help me get it running again...
edit: fixed it! shout out to leapinlar for this thread with stock roms
