All good things come to those who wait. Technically, it will be easer to configure a TWRP build for the A2 Lite since there are already Xiaomi specific official TWRP builds for devices that use the same SOC. It is still IN the oven, by the way. Other than a pre-release order from Ali or Gearbest (and good luck with customs duties on those) most Xiaomi outlets (at least that I can find here in the EU) seem to not have received a release date, yet.
Patience, Jedi.
TWRP would be a bit difficult to port (let alone compile) without the factory images, and who knows when Xiaomi will release those. We could also use a one click root tool (spyware) to pull the factory images directly from the device. Only issue is it is total spyware and you'll need to flash factory over it to remove the spyware (which we dont have). So best chance is to wait for someone to get the factory images, then we can easily port TWRP.
thanks for the advise guys. appreciate.. then.. wait for the twrp it is.
Mi A2 is the same as MI6x.

Hi everybody,
I ordered my Mi 5x that should be here in less than a week. I've seen there is guides to Root it, install TWRP and potentially put custom roms on it (I've seen a few ones around).
But I was wondering if it's possible to install a Stock Android 7.1 rom on the Xiaomi Mi 5x? Could not find any article or post talking about that (sorry if I missed it).
If not is there a list of custom roms for the Mi 5x somewhere?
Thanks and have fun with your day!
/////////////////////// 10/26/2017 UPDATE (for those who just got there from google searchs) ///////////////////////
It happened thanks to heli0us from en.miui.com and @Aex12 who ported Mi A1 Android One Rom to Mi 5x. Works like a charm.
Last version [7.10.14] can be downloaded and flashed from here ⇩

BUT you'll need to unlock your bootloader and flash TWRP for Tiffany first though.

Yeah just saw the release of that one. That would be really awesome. Like having a Nexus for 200€ (with 64gb of memory, 4gb of RAM and a Snapdragon 625).
For sure. There are some buzzing that the Nexus is back. [emoji23][emoji41]

make it happen please, don't want to regret getting the 5x. 5x with AOSP is a dream.

I hear you dude, I ordered the Mi 5x basically 4 days before the announcement of Mi A1 release.
bootloader cant be unlocked at the moment
...And now they are stopping people from unlocking the bootloader.
You can find a sticky post about it on the english miui forum complaints/advice subforum titled "Important Announcement About Unlocking Bootloader For Mi 5X & Redmi Note 5A"
which says:
In order to enhance our mobile security, the unlocking mechanism for the following devices is being updated currently. The affected devices are Mi 5X and Redmi Note 5A/Prime. During this period, Mi 5X and Redmi Note 5A/Prime owners won't be able to unlock the device. Scheduled maintenance is currently in progress. Sorry for any inconvenience caused and we'll update you guys soon.
That was posted 16th Sept and was the last that was heard about it.

Mi 5x and android A1 is same hardware phone but different by internal memory partition and a few things. Bu we can use A1 modified but pure none touched system resource ROM in our Mi 5x. Already relesed.
With the impossibility of unlocking the bootloader there's no option of flashing the Mi A1 ROM. We need to wait.

Try now, unlocking process will be success now. My friend did yesterday.
Yeah. Well I guess that would be true if I could unlock my stupid bootloader... I feel like mi 5x users are not receiving much love from Xiaomi...
EDIT : oh wait apparently it reopened for some Russians users! Gonna try it!
So I want to know if this phone has seamless update (A/B Partition) like Mi A1?
And since released out of the box with Android Oreo, is the Treble Support confirmed?
Yes and yes. I'm not sure about 1st, but treble is necessary for launching Oreo phones... If a1 had seamless update this new model too..
Mi A2 has both A/B partitions system and Treble support.
Thanks for the answers guys. :good:
Mi A2 is confirmed jasmine_sprout and Mi A2 lite is confirmed daisy_sprout. Both are A/B devices. I have already added them to the list of devices with A/B support.
I was hoping I can easily turn my 6X into a A2... Now my dreams shattered.

Is it the whole Pixel like deal? Like A/B partition for seamless system updates? And Treble should be applicable to only one partition right? Sorry I don't have much knowledge about it.

Mi A2 has A/B partition, but the device has some bugs on GSI Roms. You can find more info about this here

Maybe possible.
But the firmware ARB lock is not fun, not want to get into another HARDBRICK again.
Also I used to read that converting a 6X into A2 might not necessary get automatic update.
Anyway, I finally come to realise Android One or AOSP isn't what I want anymore, I prefer the privacy security feature in LineageOS offering - Having moving from Mi 5 running LineageOS 15.1 and Nokia 8 with Android One.
And I don't really need to have this A/B feature, have it on Nokia 8, it's a nifty to have, not a must have. If you play with custom ROM, you prolly know how to backup and restore your phone, A/B is for people who doesn't want to face that.

At the moment I would say no. TWRP doesn't fully work on our device yet, will need time to fix it. The phone has literally just come out so best to wait for Devs to jump on it before thinking of flashing GSI's.
Although you try it at your own risk and report back
Last week I purchased a Mi 8 from a mexican version of eBay, and I come from the legendary Mi A1.
I wanna have faith and think the seller did not have any bad intentions when he sold it to me, because it's a chinese version with MIUI 10 global ROM. It obviously has its bootloader unlock.
I'm aware of:
China Mi 8 + GLOBAL ROM + Unlocked booloader = safe
China Mi 8 + China ROM + Locked booloader = safe
China Mi 8 + GLOBAL ROM + Locked booloader = BRICK!
To keep it short, I wanna be able to use Google Pay and Netflix, so I wanna root my Mi 8. As far as I read, I don't need to flash MIUI.eu, only root and use Magisk tricks.
I downloaded this TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-3-1110-t3869729, and another one from a site that I don't remember.
I didn't want to flash it because I don't want to risk bricking it ot bootlooping it. With the Mi A1 I needed to boot into a "temporary" TWRP and then flash the real thing, so I tried the same thing. The TWRPs didn't boot at all. So, is it safe to flash that latest TWRP? If I root and tinker with Magisk, will I be able to bypass Google's certification?
It is safe to flash that recovery. I'm afraid that you might have to decrypt your phone by formating data. Otherwise I really recommend you to flash Xiaomi.eu, it passes SafetyNet and it has less bloatware, you don't even need to flash Magisk. I was on Xiaomi.eu since RN3 MTK as that ROM is originally from my country and it was the best option and I still consider their ROM as one of the best if not the best.

So, the TWRP is only flasheable and not bootable? I don't mind the bloatware,as I find it actually useful, except for the Mi theme and app store (which I already uninstalled). Is the EU ROM aat the latest version? The day I got my phone I got the 10.2.1.0 update and installed it normally.
To root I have to do the verity dm thing, right?
Lastly. I only want to root and not flash any other ROM for the time being, because I like to edit root/system/media stuff and some build prop lines for fun. That's what I did with my A1 to entertain myself.
EDIT: The formatting data part is really a bummer. It took me a day to set everything up and I don't wanna do it again.

It's safe. You can install each custom you want. You must remember only one thing. It's not allowed to install global miui and lock bootloader.

I am on official LOS 16 and it's very good and stable ROM for Mi8 but other custom roms are good as well. If you can buy Mi 8 much cheaper than Mi9 or k20pro that will be ok. If not I would prefer k20pro (mi 9t pro)

It depends on what are your preferences. If you will be use any custom rom there is not any reason to pay more for global version. Remember that if you would like to has locked bootloader you can use only chinese miui rom ( Chinese and English language only) on Chinese version.

It's really a bad idea :
- A lot of Official Xiaomi Mi 11 tester have encounter EDL mode / Full Brick by flashing OTA ROM
- Actual TWRP is NOT compatible with A12... (and it's the only way you can flash your link because we don't have the fastboot version)
So before share this, try yourself but you are warned... be careful !

Not if you have a full brick (Black screen). Only if you are on EDL mode.
So you can really Brick your device, it can be expensive to just install a MIUI A12 with lags & many bugs.
I advise all to wait on A11 for the moment.
