Some people and reviewers complained that the screen is oversharpened, which leads to some artifacts around letters (for example, go to settings, then pull down the notification shade and look at the text beneath the semi transparent shade).
This was a dealbreaker for me, as some of my main use cases are reading and browsing.
However, if you enable Comfort view (LG's blue light filter implementation), this fixes the problem. Set it to low, to reduce the color shift.
I just received the Oreo update. The oversharpening fix does NOT work anymore!
It's a dealbreaker for me, the effect is so bad that my eyes hurt more than using a lower resolution screen...

Why you say that this fix doesn't work anymore?
Because it doesn't work anymore...
On Nougat, enabling Comfort View would disable the sharpening filter, but on Oreo, it has no effect on the sharpening...

Yes and yes
Initially, I didn't do a factory reset after updating. However, I did afterwards, but the fix still didn't work (there is no difference in oversharpening between on or off).
So I just downgraded to Nougat, where the fix works...
Just to be clear, the issue is the same as the one described here (for LG G3):
https://www.naldotech.com/how-to-fix-screen-overshaperning-on-lg-g3/
https://www.xda-developers.com/lg-g3-oversharpening-fix-aroma/
I can confirm that after upgrading to Oreo (8.1.0) the oversharpening fix by the comfort view does not work anymore. I actually discovered this trick while randomly tinkering with settings however it no longer works no matter the intensity of the hue shift (there's 10 levels now)
Anyone facing camera related issue, quality of the front and back cameras decreased drastically.
Updated to Oreo8.1 (Indian version), have also done the factory reset.
What is the oversharpening on this device? Is it like burn in on amoled display? Because i have that before in my lg q6 and i fix it with displaying white color picture overtime (like 10 minutes) to make my display normal again.
Sorry for my English
No, it's different, check the link in the previous page.

hello to all,
So I've recently noticed this happening on my mi5 32GB variant. Whenever I close an app, after using it for sometime, a diminished part of that app remain even after closing it.
for example, if I use FB app for sometime and when I close it and go to homescreen, near the upper part of the screen I can see the diminished part of the FB app ( the upper part of FB app) even after closing it.
This can be viewed better if I go to recent apps screen. Since it has a greyish background the image can be viewed better. This is more prominent in the upper corners of the screen, but it also visible on the lower corners as well.
This happens when the phone becomes hot after working for sometime. If I leave it locked and idle for sometime, that image fades away and everything becomes normal. But if I start using the phone again for sometime, the problem comes back.
I kind of think this is something wrong with the lcd panel because if I take a screenshot (of the homescreen/recent apps menu when the problem persists) and view it through the PC it looks fine.
I've flashed both lineage OS and xiaomi.eu ROMs and this happens in both of them.
My phone has a LGD panel.
If anyone here has previously encountered this problem or if anybody have any idea about why this is happening and/or whether there are any solutions for this, I would really appreciate your help
I think its called a screen burn issue. Dont have a solution though

right ... I suspected something like this coz it happens only when the phone is hot. I didn't knew the correct term for that ....
thanks for the reply buddy. appreciate it
It's image retention. Which happen quite frequently on ips display made by LG. Many LG's flagship also suffer this symptom. The only way you can reduce it is by reducing the amount of RGB(Red green blue) colour profile by 5-7% though only doable in LOS.

Look under display calibration and change your RGB values accordingly: R: 93% G:93% B93% . It works like a charm :highfive: I use LineageOS although not all ROMs have this feature.

yeah use the LOS 14.1 and adjust the RGB to 90. I suppose it hides the retention effect. To fix the problem completely, I think the only option is the replace the screen.
some people are using KCAL which essentially provides the same options( and more) but keep in mind that it needs root access and kernel modifications.
Hello dear xda-community,
I just returned from my vacation to Mexico. Whilst being there and taking pictures I encountered a very strange dilemma with the display and the brightness-automatic of the P10: Even if I deactivated the automatic screen-brightness, the system shaded when shooting pictures in the bright sunlight. Which resulted in a barely seeable screen, whereby the S7 of my girlfriend provided a sharp and bright screen.
I really wonder what caused this strange behaviour, and if anyone of you experienced a similar behaviour? I really don't get it why a feature still works when it's deactivated -__-
Thanks, cheerz
J
did no one experience this issue?
I experienced this, too.
But mostly I got it working with manual focus.
The most annoying thing is that the colors are a bit darken with bright sunlight, even if the sun isn't in the picture. The colors seems to be faded, the saturation is very low. See the attachment, the smaller prop plane is blue in reality but on this photo it looks like black, like the background buildings, too.
Hello Janno,
my issue is not with the postproduction, but with the lightsensor which is shading the whole display (even if this option has been disabled)
Thanks for your reply though, I chose a bad headline
Um getting this issue too... After about 10mins in the bright sun light the phone dims...even when i turn off automatic brightness and increase the brightness level it wont work...i think its a flaw on oreo update...when using nougat this never encountered

I guess it has something todo with the device temperature - Have the same behavior while using navigation :x
hm... not sure if it's really temperature-driven, since in the lockscreen no dimming took place and the display was shining in brightest and good readable colors.

B365 is an Oreo update.
I am pretty sure it is temperature issue, had it on oreo 360 and 365 after update. It happens while I am driving with navigation (waze)and charging and direct sunlight on the device. Then I take the p10 and place it in front of the air conditioner opening for 30 seconds and everything is ok.

So for me, it has something todo with the device temperature. I bought a new phone holder, which is placed in front of the Ventilation and my display didnt changed the brigthness anymore ?
Same problem
In application's it get dark even you have automatic switched off. This issue is a really annoying and looks like connected with temperature.
My P10 was/is on B365 as this issue happened. Just got it back today from repairs, of course they found nothing^^
So it seems really to be a software-issue. Any way to fix this?
Can someone please check this out. When you open the front cam you can see that the portrait mode is ON by default. When I switch it off , and than back on, the upper part of the screen becomes dimmer than the lower part.. you can clearly see a line in the middle (separating the upper from the bottom part of the display). I`ve downloaded open camera from the play store, and it never gave me the same problem. Is this an OREO issue, or sth else?
I have the latest Oreo B365 but don't have your issue.

Thanks for replying. I am on VTR-L09C02B373 at the moment. I am not sure if it`s a system bug, or not. I`m guessing it is, since I am not having the same problem with other camera apps.
I'm also having the same issue on B361, doesn't affect the photo but it is just a little bit annoying

could it be a software issue? not many people seem to have the same issue.. or maybe they just didn`t notice it
edit: looks like changing the resolution to 6mpx (16:9) solves the issue. so it must he software-related
Tried again and having the same issue.
Clearly software related, when changing from on to off, line appears. Checking taken picture and returning to camera line is gone. As said already it doesn't affect the pictures.
the same issue for me

The same is happening to me.
Exactly as described above. The line disappears also after switching to front camera/main camera
I am facing this issue in my Note 9,
While I am on lower brightness , I am not getting this issue. While increasing the brightness getting these black lines and also some sort of color discoloration with yellow tint also , Could someone help on this?
While on maximum brightness there is no lines are visible. Could someone help on this?
This is what android 10 does to the dispaly setting.downgrade to pie using odin to fix the screen. Back to normal,Basically in android 10 they changed the warmthness of the screen .I'm assuming you are using adaptive display and have the slider set to warm.on pie your screen would look everso slightly pink on warm but on the android 10 the screen looks yellow /brown at warm position on the slider,I made a thread complaining and ended up odining back,They have made it identical to the note 10 in terms of screen colour calibration. It sucks imo as for the black lines you mention I have no idea what that is
Please help me
Please help me
Have you factory reset ??
Next step would be to return under warranty .
Ive allready helped you just odin back to pie it fixes the issue
Happened to me as well. Display discolored showing grainy lines after recent update
I am on Latest build of Samsung Note 9 - India, with March security update on board.
I noticed that my screen shows grain whenever the brightness auto adapts to lower levels, it doesn't get normal until I keep it locked for some time and then unlock.
My phone is 1year and 3 months old however it has no issues in maintenance - no cracks, no falls, no display injuries.
I tried to keep the auto brighntess (adaptive) to off and yet this is happening occassionally when watching videos or pictures or simply pulling down the notification bar.
I also Factory reset it today and I found it is happening right from start - during the setup screens.
I am pretty disappointed something like an update is pushed and that breaks the quality of a device!
It's livable but very annoying when you are showing a picture to someone and suddenly you see the screen becomes discolored and there are grainy black lines all over the display.
I have only one hope if there is a way to go back to Feb or January build of android 10. Anyone else facing this? Please help me.
Have you sorted this issue @aronhq??
Is this a software or hardware issue. I also have this issue and i have been using android 10 from feb and got the issue today only though recently secutity updated 2 days back

Temp fix
As a temp fix i am using oled saver app from playstore and keeping it on serting brightness full and adjusting the brightness with oled status bar so try it
My issue got solved on its own the same day..But now the issue is while watching video, it gets blocked images and slight color artifact when dark scenes play.I don't know whether its due to video compression and i didn't notice such issue previously.

Hi, any update for possible solution?
I just got the exact same issue. But my phone is Note8.
I was just watching youtube video then open an app then suddenly my screen turn yellowish and black turned faded. Also got horizontal lines if brightness is set to around 20%-70%. This happens right from boot up of the phone where Samsung logo appears.
Also I noticed that my phone gets warmer.
Mine still not back to normal.
Any update for a possible solution?
Thank you
Hi,
I've noticed pink spot/hue issue in the middle of photos taken by main camera my S21 Ultra (Exynos version).
I've checked that some condition must be met to recreate the problem:
- photo must be taken indoor when sunrise appear (but it should be dimm in the room not bright)
- photo taken outside when is cloudy (there is no sun)
- the light must be natural
- on gray and green (khaki) surfaces defect is more visible
Do you also have this problem?
I was send phone to service center twice:
first time camera module was replaced - unfortunately the defect remained
second time - the service stated that the phone and camera is functional
P. S. - laser AF is not a cause - I've covered up and hue still exists.
I've searched forums and found similar problem with xperia z3, htc, galaxy s5 .
I dont know if this is normal, or maybe software update will fix the problem or maybe this is hardware failure?
Really...don't know what to do anymore.
Have you tried to replicate the results using another camera app? If it looks the same, then it's not software.

Definitely a hardware issue buddy... Keep trying with Samsung, print the images you showed us here and give them with the phone so they can see directly and not test it barely and not notice...
@nevellan
Good to see that you created this thread.
I've been noticing the same too from the beginning. Enquiring further, I noticed the same in two other units later. (All Exynos).
I did not /do not see the pink hue when the laser AF is covered.
However, my concern is why to have the pink hue in certain lighting condition irrespective of laser AF is covered or not! This is an issue.
... have also noticed that the pink hue disappears when focus enhancer is ON.
Pink Hue dissapers when focus enhancer is ON,becuase then is used wide camera not main (108 MP).

Not sure*.
Could be firmware.
Try:
Clearing the system cache
Clear cam data
Hard reboot.
Check cam settings; excessive contrast or saturation could cause it.
A factory reset will do nothing more than likely.

I'm having a similar problem with a purple patch in the middle of the shot but only when photographing black objects in less than ideal light conditions, particularly black materials. The problem exists with the main camera and wide angle, Zooms seem ok. The problem also exists using GCAM. If I force flash there is no problem. Doesn't seem to be an issue in any other circumstances. Strange. S21 U Exynos 16gb.
I ve noticed this too, but only on the gray colors. I am up to date with the software version, july patch. Exynos 256 GB.

Ignorance is bliss
Looks like only Exynos devices are plagued with this defect, one more reason to pass on this problematic SoC.
