Using professional camera apps like filmic pro or Cinema 4K - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello,
I'm on the latest OTA update and I can't use these apps.
Filmic pro does not allow me to use 24fps (always goes to 30fps). When I choose the Force FPS option it does 24fps (but this is experimental). My videos shot in 4K are worse in quality than 1080p in native camera app. I talked with the support and they said that i'm the only one with P20 Pro with such a problem. Did any of you use this app and had such problems? Can you share a sample video?
Here is my sample from filmic pro (1080p and 4k video): https://we.tl/s-q5TPnIuzJg
In Cinema 4K it never records in 24fps, and the app crashes every time I try to use flat color profile.
Is my device broken?

filmic is not using camera SDK for huawei ( or something like that)
you cannot use 3x zoom camera only main one and if you compare 4k filmic and 4k native (other camera app) 100% crop filmic looks like upscaled 1080p- quality is much worse.
i am using open camera app - at least i can use zoom camera and bitrate is decent 80mbit (max what p20 pro supports).
but whend testing the phone and shooting grass while walking (lot af moving objects) biterate is around 100mbit, when shooting static picture with some pans bitrate is 40-60mbit. i was using 150mbit hevc on galaxy s7 and it is always 150mbit in the dark when recording fast scenes or static objects. with huawei i want high bitrate in night scenes to reduce compression artefacts because of high iso and phone lowers it actualy which is dissapointing.
this phone is very bad for video. old galaxy s7 was much better and has ois.
for photography it is okif you use raw/ bw camera bud also here compression is too high. but actually i think it's only phonefor now that can bring output quality bit closer to nokia 808 output.

Thanks for the reply - that's sad that "the best camera phone" is that hard to use.

APPS Cameras from other brands for Nexus 6? Slow Motion and HDR

Hi, I'm interested in using third-party camera applications.
I seek above all the following:
It works on Nexus 7.1.1 without rooting.
Record to slow camera videos
HDR of the best quality (for now the Samsung has seemed the best because I do not change the color of the photo too much, the HDR + colors a lot and there are comic photos)
I have already tried the typical Open Camera-Fv-5 DSLR Camera- Bacon Camera .... and they do not give me what I am looking for
Thank you
Camera Zoom FX Premium. It has the best HDR of the third party cameras I've tried due to it using exposure bracketing to create the shot. The exposure bracketing however means the camera is slow in taking a shot, because it has to take three shots and merge them together in software in order to create the image. This also means that moving objects in a HDR image may create ghost images.
HDR+ in the Nexus devices that support it I feel is a better option than even Camera Zoom FX Premium's HDR. HDR+ isn't perfect. It takes a shot quickly but has to spend time compositing the final image, due to how HDR+ works. It does however eliminate the problem of moving objects in a shot. This is because unlike the exposure bracketing of HDR, HDR+ brackets using film speed (ISO). The reason for the amount of time spent compositing the image is due to HDR+ taking ten images with one press of the on-screen button.
I had bought it, but I did not think it was very practical, right now I use Fv-5 and Google camera.
I really like the samsung camera application, because it does not distort the actual color of the photo,
And I do not need to do several photos to have an hdr by software. But I do not find anything similar in third-party applications.
Is there no port of the LG, Samsung, HTC camera that works on a nexus 6?
I'm not aware of any ports of those camera apps. As to the Samsung camera, it uses software to create an HDR effect. Software-based HDR by its very nature distorts the color as the HDR effect is applied to the image. As a result software-based HDR is always going to be inferior to hardware-based HDR solutions.
True, but it is difficult to do 3 photos in a row, without tripod, and many times there will be people, which will result in ghosts.
Which is why HDR+ is better than exposure bracketing HDR. I do believe I said as much in a previous post.

Info, 4k60fps front camera video recording.

Filmic pro support 4k60Fps video recording on the front camera in case if you don't know. Which is strange as stock camera limit to 1080p. Also the crop is less than stock camera.

Question Samsung camera mod

I found that using screen recording while using samsung camera app in photo mode makes the field of view wider compared to video. And dynamic range is better also.(forget 4k). But good for social media sharing.. but the only problem is the zoom toggle in the way. Is there any way to remove that toggles.. maybe a modded apk or something???...
I think it's because when the camera is in photo mode, the app uses the whole sensor. This means that it is recording with a resolution of 3000x4000 pixels (3:4 aspect ratio). But when you record 4K, the camera app uses only a portion of the sensor equal to 2160x3840 pixels (16:9 ratio). That is the reason you see a wider view in the photo mode and not in the video mode. The only solution right now, might be to use OpenCamera to record video but you have to select the 3:4 ratio in the video settings. If you do that though, OpenCamera will only film with a resolution of 1440x1080 so the video will not be that sharp. I admit, I would love to see a mod or a toggle from Samsung that lets you record in 3:4 though.
Thanks. But what about the hdr.. i mean i have tested it and the hdr performance with ultrawide camera in screen recording is great compared to normal video capture. Even in low light the screen recording looks way too wider and brighter and had great dynamic range. (I have also tested shoooting in 1:1 in video). Kindly test it out and see it yourself. But don't pixel peep it's obviously less crisp than 4k. But great for social media.
I see what you mean. Video from screen recorder is a bit different from video mode. However I do not know why this happens. I suspect that maybe screen recorder is not able to capture the whole color gamut of the HDR preview.

Question No 60 FPS video recording at all

The phone has no option to record at 60 fps. Am I missing something or this flagship cannot record at 60fps?

Click to collapse
Open the Camera app.
Go to Video mode.
At the top of the screen, where it appears de screen-ratio icon (9:16 or an square icon), thereis a little horizontal bar just below that icon. Scroll it down.
There it will appear more options like selecting resolution 8k, 4k, FHD and also FPS.
60 fps does not work with 8K and I have to say that there is some bug recording at 60ps (4k or 1080p). It will not focus properly, but try it.
Oh thank you very much bro..I would have never found it if not for you. And yes you are right, the camera is not able to focus.
I find this issue even with photos. Like when I want to take a close up photo of a document or an object the camera won't fo us properly.
I hope Motorola knows about this bug that focus on camera is totally broken.

General HDR10+ in 4K too low bitrate

When selecting HDR10+ in 4K the resulting video only has 35MBit/s which is way too low for reasonable quality.
The sky is not rendered with a smooth gradient and the amount of details is very low.
If someone selects these type of video good quality is expected. To get this at least 80-120MBit/s are required.
