im on w10 and im having trouble using fastboot commands through cmd (in a folder with the files)
my device is not showing up when i type "fastboot devices" when i go into fastboot mode or flash mode
when i open cmd and type in "fastboot boot twrp.img" or "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img", it gets stuck saying "< waiting for device >"
but when i use flashtool, it recognizes that im in fastboot mode or flash mode
i have installed:
adb drivers
fastboot drivers
flashtool
platform tools
android sdk
google usb driver
i have tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them through device manager
my device shows up as "S1Boot Fastboot"
my main objective is to get twrp in order to flash oreo carbon rom with magisk
Did you install the fastboot drivers through the file in the Flashtool folder, with the installation of unsigned drivers allowed in Windows (driver signature enforcement disabled)? Suppose that's often a problem.
I had the same problem as you, and I noticed that some [automatic] Windows update had apparently uninstalled those drivers. Installing them again did the trick for me. Good luck.

Heya~ Ive recently upgraded to CM5, since then manually & Automatically updating the drivers to use fastboot have failed on Vista Home Premium (32bit)
I've also tested it on Win7 64BIT, in win7 it does appear on device manager as "HTC Bootloader", under ADB Interfaces. But does not appear when I do "fastboot devices" therefor it endlessly stays at <Waiting for Device> when trying to flash a file, It wasnt like this on Vista before upgrading from hardSPL to dangerSPL. Under windows vista it continuasly picks the device up as "Android 1.0" and cannot find drivers on the internet, and the drivers from the SDK arent working.
Is there a command to flash the splash1/2 via terminal or recovery prompt...because My computers dont want to cooperate.
Ok, I get into Fastboot on my DELL S7 it just keeps on saying "Starting Fastboot USB download protocol" and other stuff in red text above, besides that I need to install the driver on my computer for Fastboot but Windows 7 says "Windows was unable to install your Fastboot" I guided windows to the driver folder in Fastboot+ADB which I got from the Clockwork Mod 5.0 RECOVERY Flash thread.
I really want to flash this clockwork mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334487
EDIT: Fastboot working, ok I have another problem I flashed the CWM 5.0 IMG file thru fastboot, but how to go into CW recovery? isn't it Power + Up Volume, but that takes me to the Dell update system.
EDIT 2 : I got everything working, used my brain instead of working blindly. Thanks anyways.

Where did you find the driver during the fastboot screen? I'm having the same problem and any help would be definitely appreciated. What stock android did you have before installing CWR?
Ok, I had ADB drivers for a Motorola CLIQ and it worked, just select choose from list of installed drivers and selct Android Interface or ADB interface or whatever wityh ADB or android in it. Tyhen run cmd and ttpe fastboot.exe or fastboot
I see a few posts where folks cant get their computer to install the fastboot driver from the FASTBOOT+ADB.ZIP but then they say they got it working, but nobody has said how! I have XP sp3 and cant get the computer to install a fastboot driver. The ANDROID PHONE device is empty as well as the ANDROID USB DEVICE. I get adb interface when I plug in my Epic but I even tried uninstalling it and seeing if the steak would install but no go. Any suggestions?

Yeah, that's right.
This is how it is download ADB which is basically downloading the SDK.
And if you have an Android phone or something just install the drivers for it, usually downloads adb drivers for it too, or if that doesn't work try downloading MOTOROLA CLIQ USB or ADB drivers....as I had them installed when I plugged in the phone.
Put device in fastboot mode
Connect device
Open up Device Manager
Click on "Fastboot" or whatever it says
Click on "Update driver"
Click on "Browse my computer for driver"
Click on "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Click on "Have Disk"
Find your fastboot drivers

you need to install the system wide version, or point your command line to the folder the adb.exe is located in
I have ran into a bit of an odd problem due to me messing up a root and then messing my phone up even more while trying to fix it.
my phone is fully bricked and only boots into fastboot mode. i tried to fix it with the one-plus fixer (idk its official name) but i got an error 7. I now need to re flash an older version of TWRP and try a diffrent method but i cant as my phone no longer is recognized in fastboot using the ADB tool. I have the USB driver installed on Windows. On Linux i ran the .sh script as root and it still doesn't work.
I have both Ubuntu and Windows installed on my PC so i can do whatever you suggest me to do regardless of the os.
Thank you to anyone that can help in advanced
Malte
This is not a hardbrick; a hard one wouldn't boot at all and give no sign of life (except when plugged to PC).
Try an unbrick tool to revert to official OOS. On Windows 7+ remember to disable signed driver enforcement.
You mention fastboot and adb. Which one are you using?
Just to make sure: While in the bootloader (fastboot mode), adb does not work. You have to use the fastboot commands. Installing TWRP would be:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <name-of-img-file>
If that's what you're already trying, just ignore this post.
I want to be able to do that but if i do adb devices it no longer finds my phone

I want to be able to do that but if i do "adb devices" in the cmd/terminal it no longer finds my phone. so my goal is to be able to execute that command. However, i may be mistaken that it doesnt need to find my phone i can just execute that command
Ive done this but it didnt fix my phone.

Like I said, the adb commands won't work while in the booloader (that's why it's called fastboot mode). You need to use fastboot commands... The equivalent command would be:
Code:
fastboot devices

I had the same issues with md5, all you have to do is try a different USB port. I suggest the ones on your motherboard if you're on a PC. Then run the tool as administrator. I hope this helps, good luck!
P.S if it still doesn't work, try a different PC, I'm 100% sure it'll work

As Didgeridoohan touched upon, adb and fastboot (while related) are different. They have different requirements and applications.
adb won't work while the device is in fastboot mode. Conversely, when the device is able to use adb, fastboot commands won't work.
adb: only works booted to OS or alternately in TWRP. Debugging must be enabled
fastboot: only works in bootloader-fastboot mode. Debugging is not required to be enabled.
For flashing TWRP, it's fastboot that you need. Well, there is a way to do it with adb, but fastboot is by far the more common way.
When in fastboot mode, adb command won't work, and there fore it is completely expected that "adb devices" yields not response. Try "fastboot devices" (no quotes) and if you get the phone's ID in response, you are in business.

I've had this happen to me when I've triggered dm-verity. Instead of getting the dm-verity warning display the phone would simply boot straight back to fastboot.
My solution was to:
- flash the latest TWRP using
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <recovery file. img>
- reboot into recovery (use the volume keys on the phone to select recovery and then press the power key)
-flash the full stock image I was using before the problem started
This would clean up any changes made to the boot and system images and allow me to boot the system normally.
Note: because this leaves you with a stock kernel you'll end up with the stock recovery after you boot the system.
Sent from my OnePlus3T using XDA Labs
boot your PC into Ubuntu and install adb/fastboot (tons of guides available off the 'net). then boot your 3t to dl mode and connect it to your PC. as mentioned already "fastboot devices" should list your 3t and you should now be able to flash to your heart's content. no need for drivers, unlike under Windows. i have a bootable linux usb drive primarily for this reason. curious what script you're trying to run though..
Hello,
I am trying to unlock my bootloader but I my computer (Windows 10) does not recognize fastboot.
When I connect to fastboot (holding volume up button + connecting my phone by USB when it's off, or using the adb reboot fastboot command), the computer does not recognize the phone. I then tried installing drivers (both from Google and Sony) by going into device manager but Windows just doesn't install the drivers.
I then saw this on Sony's website:
Fastboot driver - Sony Developer World
developer.sony.com
So I download the file and pasted it instead of the same file (android_winusb.inf) in the Google driver folder, and it somewhat worked, but Windows said something like unable to find drivers for ADB.
I also tried to install in Windows test mode but to no avail.
No matter what I tried, entering the command fastboot devices in fastboot mode does not give me any output (not even "waiting for device").
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you!

Hii. you go to device manager. find your phone in unknown device. Update the driver using i have a disk option. Then try again. it will work.
Disable windows 10 Driver signature and install Fastboot USB drivers again.
