Any idea what this marker is on the screen which fades away after a few seconds? Assume it's something introduced as one of the updates?
That looks like a scroll bar for that widget you have there
I don't have the widget on!
Are you using a custom launcher? Looks like another one behind your spen icon too. Does it slide your notifications on your homepage. Def haven't seen that on my Note.
Definitely from something you installed, not from the phone itself or any phone update.

Hold down the power button to bring up the shutdown menu. Then hold down the power off icon. It will ask if you want to restart into safe mode. Hit yes. Once your phone is back on, all third party apps are disabled. If that bar if gone, then it confirms it is something you downloaded. To get out of safe mode, just go to the power menu and tap restart.

Ok so i've got a rooted Nexus One... had it for about a week... messin around with some roms and I like Cyanogen. But while trying out the Desire port I noticed when you use the trackball to move between home screens pretty easily. Is there anyway I could do that with Cyanogen?
Yeah I really love this in Sense roms too, but the simple answer is no.
Android 1.6 has the "AdvancedLauncher" replacement that can hide the titles on home screen shortcuts and make them essentially invisible to trackball selection. This way, there is nothing for the trackball to highlight and it just jumps whole screens. I have not seen that on 2.x yet.
HelixLauncher has the option to hide text label now but it still allows the trackball to highlight icons, and this prevents the jump from screen to screen.
So far, you can only have this feature on a Sense UI rom. Personally, I'm rocking the Desire rom!
I am on Cy 5.0.6 and I can use the trackball to navigate through all my home screen pages
Hold down on the app drawer button. Flash cards will pop up, you can use trackball from there.

Oh dang I didn't even remember that! I'm not fully proficient with the new UI yet, I haven't had my Nexus too long. So that's another alternative.
I, however, prefer not to have any orange highlights on anything on the home screen at all. This is why I like the Sense way of doing it.

After doing all that I might as well just use my finger and flip normally between screens lol
I was just hoping there might be an app or something that I could just scroll left or right without worrying about going from icon1-to-icon2-to-icon3-to-icon4 THEN to the next screen and doing it all over again.
so, I haven't rooted yet, and am trying to take screen shots of some open programs. I know you are supposed to either hold the power button and volume down together, but its impossible with my fat fingers to do that properly; I also saw that holding home and power is supposed to work, but that doesn't either.
Also, the quick memo program, which supposedly does that too, doesn't do it; when I invoke that, I just get a blank, yellow page to show up, not the open screen of the open program..
Am I missing something?
thanks!

I have big hands too. Try pushing the middle area between the Vol down and Power with one finger. Just a pretty quick push. Works for me your results may vary.
thanks man, it took a few tries but I got it to work! :good::good:

Apps for taking screenshots
Apps are available in Google Play Store, that allow to take screenshots of your phone's screen.
With root, Install Xposed framework- gravity box. Then enable screenshot option on power menu.

Try "Screenshot Ultimate" from "Ice Col Apps"
The pixel-style animation when pressing the home button gets disabled randomly on my Nokia 7 plus. It defaults back to generic AOSP style button whenever this occurs. See the screenshot. You'll notice that the little extra inner circle has disappeared.
I've reset the phone twice and it still happens.
I reported the bug to Nokia but does anyone else have this issue?
Sorry have to double post to put in the extra image.
This screenshot has the original working button with the inner circle.
I can get the button back if I change the wallpaper to one that changes the launcher theme from light to dark or vice versa.
Might as well close this mystery. My smart self did not realise that if you set the default "Assist" app to something other than Google it goes away.
Thing is when I set it to the Duck Duck Go app it stayed active for a while which confused me.
Hi!
I'm wondering if I can lock my device without pressing the power button. In my galaxy s9+, I used the "custom navigation bar" app to add an invisible power button to the navigation bar, but this app CRASHED my note9!!!!
I spent 2 hours trying to solve the issue without losing my apps and stuff, successfully. Now I want to use another way to save my power button.
I installed an app called "home launcher" to use the home long press to call another app instead of google search, but every app to lock screen causes the fingerprint sensor to stop working without password.
I miss my old Xiaomi Mi 6
Someone knows how to do this?
you can install an app called "turn off screen (lock screen)" by redmanit from the play store. it gives you the option to put an icon on the homescreen or from your notifications drop down, press it and it'll lock your phone in 5 seconds. this is the only app i know of that works with the note 9's android 8.1
Nova launcher can do it as far as I know.
Installed a 3rd party screen off app. Using the widget Extended Date which then gives you the settings to show time/date/week/day/etc. There's a function to link to any app in this case screen off. Thus touching the date switches off the screen. Been using this setup way back when I still had my Note 2. Still works (both the screen off app and the widget).

Turn on the Assistant Menu. That has a lock button that will turn your screen off. It will not "lock" your phone, just turn off the screen. Screen locks @ whatever you've set as the lock out time (screen locks "x" number of seconds after pressing power button). If you want to "lock" it instantly, requiring password to open, I use Nova Launcher and a screen input gesture. That locks it instantly and requires, I think, your password - not your fingerprint.
See screenies for info.

you can use OHO+ without goodlock though, if you only need the lockscreen gesture.
OHO+ is a "standalone" app, luckily.
Screen lock button in navbar via good lock + navstar ?
Hey ppl
Anyone noticed this ugly button?
I press it several times by accident. The only way to deal with is to enable the navigation bar (the button will then be displayed inside of it).
Is there a wax to remove it completely?
Thanks

I personally love that button I believe this is a Pie feature, it lets you rotate your phone on command instead of it automatically rotating. To turn that off simply make sure Auto Rotate is turned on in the Quick Settings toggles.
yeah but i dont want autorotate at all. i hate it even^^
I don't have this button and I'm actually interested
What do you set on to have it?

Turn off auto rotate, and Pie will show it whenever it detects your phone has rotated.

That tiny little unobtrusive button only appears when you have auto rotate turned off AND you rotate your phone. It should not appear during normal use. And it goes away after a few seconds if you don't press it.

I understand what you're asking. But it's not possible. And again the button goes away after a few seconds.
Root and install something other than One UI. Although saying that, I don't remember seeing this rotate button while running several of the different custom One UI roms, can double check if you want.

Maybe you've figured this out already but from the notification panel of you click on the word "Portrait" under the auto-rotate icon it'll bring to additional settings an be you can turn it off from there
