Mi 8 global variant in USA - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

I see a global version of this phone available to purchase in the US, anybody got their hands on one yet? Anybody using it on TMO? It says it has band 12...that's important to me cuz I travel through rural areas with only band 12 as LTE coverage...

Yes I see that but is it certified to work on TMO?

got mine today (bought from aliexpress, 6g/128gb)
i used TING(tmobile), seems working.
also put in an activated verizion sim, also works (LTE) but seems about half speed of LG v30 due to missing band 13?
anyone knows how to unlock band 13?

Got my device yesterday, definitely no volte, hope it can be implemented in future updates...Xiaomi definitely needs to step it up for us here in the States...I think so far for us here the OP6 superiority is out of the question... we'll see...

Oh man!! Thanks but I would need step by step instructions to do that.......do I need to unlock bootloader and root?
So this means it could be implemented in custom ROMs right?

Yes you have to unlock bl and to be rooted my friend.
When you are rooted you have to change the build.prop file and add this lines

do you get data on band 12 at least? also what happens when VoLTE doesnt work? it just switch to non-LTE bands when you make/receive calls?

I've never seen it in band 12, I am not sure but I think at TMobile US you can't get band 12 if you don't have volte, some type of homologation... something to do with calling 911... it has been explained many times...
Yes the signal just switches to non-lte bands under voice calls...

I don't see much past 2G use in your country at the moment
Here in central NC I am getting around 5 Mbps download and around 1 Mbps upload. This is just from my home, I haven't taken the phone anywhere else yet. I hope to get a couple of test from other areas around my town today.

Unfortunately no, its a hardware issue. Unless the radio could be modified. The only current band that is disabled but can be opened is band 12, but that is not going to help in your country. Sorry

Sorry, Kinda weird the 6735 is a world capable SoC, even if it was for a US market, why cripple it?? I wonder with an unlocked bootloader if flashing another 6735 based radio would work?? Probably not that simple.... Sorry could not help out

The Indian LTE is on band 40 across providers. LTE band 3 is also auctioned by government nut service yet to be started on that. Its a hardware radio issue and not something that will get corrected with software OTA.
Its limited to 3g use. I too have the US amazon version and its not possible to use it on 4G.

XT1103 - Questions regarding value and worldwide usage

I was checking XT1103 i.e. NEXUS 6 64GB in USA. ITs now available for < 250$, which I think is quite a fantastic price. I do not really need "latest and greatest" so older gen phones are ok. However, I am wondering if the XT1103 works in India with 4G-LTE ?
From the wikipedia it says
3g - 1 / 2 / 4 / 5 / 8
However carrier bands are given in MHz on coverage maps
USA is GSM 900/1800
India is 850/1900 MHz
So Should I get XT1100 international version? Will the international version work on any carrier in USA. As long as coverage in cities, is there, its fine. Do not need full remote area coverage.
That said, is it a good idea at < 300$ for 64GB, or I should look at NEXUS 6P price drop?
To see the bands available by the nexus 6 I suggest going here:
http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_nexus_6-6604.php
To check the bands that each carrier use by country I suggest going here:
https://www.frequencycheck.com/carriers
Just do a comparisson and buy the one that suits you more I guess.
On the other hand, at this point I would wait for a price drop on the 6p. In december last year I got the 32gb nexus 6 brand new for 250, so at this date it's not a bad deal, but also not the best, it's a 2 year old phone after all.
The US model (XT1103) would not get LTE in India because the LTE frequencies wouldn't be correct, but 3G and HSPA+ would function just fine. You want the XT1100 if LTE is offered by your carrier.
Thanks, I was thinking that XT1100 is US version and XT1103 is the international version. Is it the other way round? Will the international version work inside USA (3g 2g only good enough)

Thanks!
So XT1100 is great. I went to the websites suggested. It says INDIA LTE is B40 (TD 2300)
Phone specs for LTE say.
I do not see 2300 in either of them.
LTE band 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 9(1800), 19(800), 20(800), 28(700), 41(2500) - XT1100
LTE band 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 12(700), 13(700), 17(700), 25(1900), 26(850), 29(700), 41(2500) - XT1103
LTE band 4(1700/2100), 13(700) - Verizon
You're not imagining it. Neither model has band 40 support out of the box, therefore you won't be getting LTE at all, regardless of model. It may be possible to add the missing band, and there is a thread in the General subforum on how to do that. If you don't want to go through that however, the international 6P apparently does have band 40, so that may be a better option for you.

IF I just buy an unlocked note 9 (US version/qualc), will it work on any SIM carrier?

If I buy an unlocked phone from samsung direct, and just pick unlocked, can I use it on US Cellular? Is the CDMA/GSM stuff no longer an issue? Or does the phone support both, so it just works?
Because of course, they have a "US CELLULAR" option, but then I assume that means it comes with the US Cellular bloatware.
Would I have to flash the US Cellular note 9 software on this one to get access to everything (such as it is on us cellular), or just stick in the sim, and be happy?
I bought the unlocked model and it works fine on Verizon after putting the PIN in, very painless. However, features like WiFi calling don't work because I don't have the Verizon firmware. If US Cellular doesn't have any special features that aren't app based then you won't notice a difference in service with the unlocked model.
Sent from my SM-N960U1 using XDA Labs
Yes, it should work perfectly fine with any US Cell Provider
It will work.
U.S. Cellular Bands
4G : 800 MHz ESMR, Band 26 (LTE). 1900 MHz PCS, Band 25 (LTE). 2.5 GHz BRS/ EBS, Band 41 (TD-LTE/ LTE Advanced).
Note 9 US can work on these bands
LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 12(700), 13(700), 14(700), 17(700), 18(800), 19(800), 20(800), 25(1900), 26(850), 28(700), 29(700), 30(2300), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500), 46, 66(1700/2100), 71(600) - USA
It of course covers the CDMA bands as well.
