hey, i haven't rooted a phone for personal use since kitkat came out, so it was weird to see cwm and supersu outdated and crusty. anyway, i did my research and bought this phone to play with. these are the steps i took:
unlocked bootloader
flashed twrp
flashed magisk and rebooted
flashed aokp, gapps, then magisk
watched it fail to boot according to plan
wiped and flashed aosp extended, gapps, and magisk
set it up and put in a verizon sim card
so everything's good except for the random weird buggy stuff. my only problem is that i can't get service above 3g. like an idiot i didn't test the phone out before i rooted it... i'm going to try my backup then maybe different roms, but does anyone know anything? i tried search and didn't find anything helpful.

I use Straight Talk, which uses Verizon, all is well with mines. I never had to backup EFS or anything when I first rooted my phone but maybe that's a good Idea for you to do. Return to stock xt1806 April patch. And take OTA updates and backup efs after you reinstall twrp. Than flash your custom ROM. Is you don't have the speed you need then restore efs from twrp. Also make sure your didn't use all of your data on your plan [emoji39]

well i made the backup using defaults for twrp but i guess i didn't do it right and it can't boot now. any way to fix this?
edit: i mean, now i wipe and restore and the phone won't boot. i'm not bricked if i install the rom back. i don't even need anything fancy, just root access, lte data, and a 64-bit os.
i'm sorry for needing extra help. i did a week of research before i got the phone and thought i had all my ducks in a row.

Just reinstall twrp and try flashing another ROM. If not return to stock and rerooted. But take backups of efs while doing it

I kinda did the exact same thing as you - unlocked bl, installed recovery, installed custom rom & then inserted Verizon sim...and I got the same result: no 4g.
You can try other ROMs and you may get lucky(I know I didn't get that lucky) but I ended up having to fastboot flash full stock(no need to relock bootloader) & let the Verizon sim register with the network. Once you boot into stock & see that lil 4g/lte icon you're good to go & can root, reflah twrp, rom, etc.
I think it's just a Verizon thing. Verizon making things difficult for custom software? No way - never - get outta here with that They do have the best service though. A lil pricey, but reliable AF.
i will try again. i found a post for the stock rom so i'm working on flashing it now. thanks very much for your advice and patiemce.
edit: ah thanks, bob. yeah, i have a habit of opening the box, glancing at the warranty, crumpling/disposing of it, and getting to rooting without much forethought.
uck, sorry but i'm searching for the stock us firmware and can't seem to find it. the one was an ad and everything i can find is for international or india. i know i messed up when i took my backup so i'm already kicking myself.

I had issues going to Verizon with custom roms. The fix was to flash stock, was all good after that. Just skip the erase modemst1 and t2 commands.

Well I'm taking it you haven't read up too much on the status of the S5 for AT&T and Verizon, but the bootloader is locked and encrypted with no known workaround so you can't flash a custom recovery.
The only option for recovery is Safestrap. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794087

You really need to do a lot more reading I'm not being rude but by what you're posting leads me to believe you've jumped into the AT&T S5 and didn't know what you were getting into. Every device is completely different. If I were you I'd try to do quite a bit more research before going any further before you brick your device I'd start here.

Hi, I did a lot of things with my One Mini 2 and I actually really don't know what to do anymore... So much options and yet there always seems to be a problem. Let me explain everything.
What I did:
-flashed a custom rom, then went back to a stock rom of this forum
-flashed the dt2w kernel, it messed up my phone so I then flashed the liberty one, which worked
But with the liberty one I had some memory problems, for exemple I couldn't take screenshots... That's why I decided that I wanted to put my phone just as it was when I bought it, I really hope that's possible, by that I mean having official firmwares etc, therefore being able to do official upgrades from my phone (is that what OTA is?).
I looked on internet and it looks like what I need is RUU, as it includes everything (from what I understood)... I know a lot of threads were made about this, but quite a few months ago, so that's why I'm making a new one, and to make things clear.
Also, I downloaded an official kernel from htcdev.com, but each time I tried flashing it with TWRP, it "failed".
So, if you guys have an answer, solution or, in best case, the actual RUU, that would be great.
Thanx

Still no RUU's avaiable as HTC wont release them. your best option is to use TWRP backup and restore.
Original stock backup
Thank you, but my backup kind of disappeared... I saw your post where there was the "HTC Original Backup.zip", I tried to flash but again it failed... Am I supposed to flash it as a backup?

You need to send it as it is to your phone and use TWRP > restore. choose file and done.
Thanx so much for answering... I uses the backup you told me to. Although I had to use the "install" option instead of the backup one, it now works perfectly! But how do I know if my phone is "official"? Are the upgrades going to be made straight from the phone?

Yes OTA updates should work just fine. just look for updates in settings>about >software update.
you may have one for polaris office.
Hi, I just want to check this too before I screw up wife's phone..
She has CM12 on her phone now as I replaced recovery as well as unlocking bootloader. Now she wants it back to stock as too many things crash on her. I get that I can install your backup but what worries me is that other posts have said you need the stock recovery to allow for OTA updates to work and the link to this no longer works.
She MUST have OTA updates or my balls will be removed, so can you please confirm this, but also explain why.
Thanks (on behalf of my testicles and unborn children!)
(Oh, and she wants it unrooted ant the bootloader relocked)

Stock Recovery
To unroot just lock bootloader:
fastboot oem lock
Even after a year on Android, I'm quite the novice, so please bear with me. So, I rooted my Moto X '14 using CF Autoroot because it was so easy. But, I had no idea how to unroot. So I googled some stuff and I attempted to flash back to total stock rooted rom and recovery. Foolishly, I picked the option to not wipe. So, when it rebooted, it went to the boot screen and crashed.
After trying everything, I realized I had no choice and did an external reset. So, hello 2014 because I'm back on KitKat but still was rooted. After looking around, I realized I can 'unroot' by pressing the option on SuperSU. But, I think all I did was revoke root access because on the bootloader, it still says modified.
I tried to go back to lolipop, but every time I take the OTA, the install crashes, but my phone works fine. So, what I wanna know is how I can go back to stock. Is it easy as flashing as flashing a 5.0 factory image? Or is there more I have to do?

Just flash system and the root will be gone. Also, if you have other mods like TWRP or different modem the OTA won't install, so in order to get the latest update just flash all the files
Good luck

Haha, it's all good. I just didn't know how that other dude dug this up.
I have been experiencing certain issues w my phone and decided to do a factory reset.
Originally i was getting the TWRP loop when my celluar phone provider was trying to push an update.
Well after doing the factory reset, it went into TWRP. I"m not sure why, but that's where I am. I currently do not have an OS installed.I tried downloading a purenexus_shamu-7.1.1-20170215-OFFICIAL rom through some thread that I read, hoping to get a rom installed (excuse my terminology)
The system updated the partition, flashed itself, but still boots into TWRP.
I was at times able to get into the Pure rom? But then it had no apps. not even google play for me to use to download more apps.
Can someone pls provide a step by step of what to do to get me back up and running and disable this TWRP program permanently?
Thank you.

Well, the question is:
Honestly... Did you ever read the PureNexus thread?
Check this post for a detailed install (Google apps links in first post):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61653759&postcount=4
If you want to start fresh, just flash a factory image of your choice (I advise the latest)
Follow this guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/guide-flash-factory-images-nexus-6shamu-t2954008
Backup your datas first...
Don't flash userdata partition if your phone is not a 32GB model...
Also, don't mess with your phone unless you read enough and know what you are doing otherwise you could break it for good...
i was able to install it and get the gapps running
the problem is it didnt fix anything
i still cant really work the dialup unless it is via bluetooth. (am forced to reboot to be able to use the phone during a call)
my front facing camera still does not work.

Follow the guide posted above to get it back to stock. There shouldn't be a calling issue on that rom. Must be something janky during the flash process. Just get back your phone e to stock and see if everything works.

Obviously you haven't done a proper clean flash. I've flashed every rom available and no fcs. Only time I've had signal trouble was with att(gsm). Never lost signal, would just go from 2 bars to none then back again, but never lost signal.
Oh, search pe thread for my name to see the correct way to flash.

Hey, after decrypting my phone and using the method you posted in the pe thread to flash roms, I am still getting service problems. I've also noticed that anytime I have tried to open carrier settings on the phone, I get a ".com.android.phone has stopped." So I cant update the prl at all. I've seen people post about modifying the APN settings but I thought that was irrelevant on sprint. I'm honestly out of ideas.

Well, when nothing helps, it's time to go back to stock.
Get firmware for your location - different firmware (modem especially) for different markets.
Don't use any "tools" or .bat files you find here and flash with fastboot - do 1 command at a time and note results, (remove sim before flashing and reinsert after you've booted into stock once).
See what happens. Sometimes things get messed up enough to where flashing stock is the only thing to do. That'll really clean it out.
I had a real funky issue when going from att to vz. Spent hours with straight talk trying to sort it out (had 4g but no calls or texts). Flashed stock - popped sim in - bang - everything working, and has been ever since and I've flashed them all, some several times, still good.

When I first got my xt1806 I didn't load a Sim card in it when I powered it up, I immediately unlocked the bootloader, installed recovery, flashed a ROM and just used WiFi for a few days with no issues. But once I did put a new Sim in it I noticed all I could get was 3g - and with every other ROM I installed all I could get was 3g no matter what I tried. The only solution was to fastboot flash back to stock, install the Sim, power it up, & let it "register"(send a text or make a call & also verify 4g works) with the network. I'm not saying you did the same thing I did, but the fix should be flashing back to stock.
*Copy your internal memory somewhwere before you reflash stock in case everything gets wiped.
*I'm on Verizon btw, so my experience may or may not apply to Sprint.
Sprint problems with 4g
I know this isn't my thread but I shall try anyway. I have the Sprint version of the g5 s plus. I have tried every way of flashing a rom that I can think of (all wipes rom then gapps magisk, magisk then gapps, rom and no gapps or magisk, etc.). I cannot manage to keep 4g after flashing. I have backed up my efs with twrp and tried restoring it. Nothing. I've used fastboot to flash nhlos erase modems1&2 flash fsg. I tried *#*#463whatever to turn it back on and nothing. I've checked all settings and tried all things I know of. Still nothing. The only way I can get/keep 4g is by using stock rooted which I hate. . Is this just a specific problem to my type of phone or is there something I'm missing? Is there a different firmware or modem I could use or something? Any thoughts or ideas would be great cause I'm stumped.
