This thread could be total blasphemy...sorry in advance if it is!
I've bad my op3 for maybe 3 weeks and really like it. Performance is excellent and smooth. Battery life is great. Absolutely love Oxygen OS.
But the audio experience doesn't match what I had with my Nexus 6 and I believe I can see the limitations in the 1080p screen when zooming into photos that I have snapped. They don't look as crisp as the N6 when viewing close up, even though I know the op3 has a better camera.
The Axon 7 has a lot to offer at the same price point. Awesome audio experience, better screen, bigger battery (even if becomes a wash due to the better screen), expandable storage. What's not to love with regards to specs?
My only concerns are ZTE's UI and the bootloader. I don't have an issue running stock firmware if it is good. I have no desire to unlock or root my op3 because I'm completely satisfied with OOS. if ZTE's UI isn't good, I'm scared of being stuck with it.
Anyway that ended up being a longer post than I thought. But are there any op3 owners pondering the Axon 7?
I'm satisfied with the Snapdragon 820's integrated DAC, and this is coming from someone who's accumulated thousands of dollars of audio equipment through the years.
I really don't care what my photographs look like on a phone's tiny 1080p screen. I edit and examine my photographs on my computer and the 4K television it outputs them to. I'm satisfied, as long as the phone takes great shots and film that are worthy for future preservation.
It is a little odd for you to post this on the OP3's XDA developer forum, if you're not one who commonly unlocks, roots, and contributes, besides the fact you seem unsatisfied with the phone. I don't think that you will find many people if any who would encourage to switch devices here.
In fact, I really dislike the ZTE brand, they are poor in updating their device's software, the quality control is poor, all three ZTE devices I've owned have suffered hardware failures, one as recent last month with my father's Axon. The developer community and customer service is poor as well. OnePlus has poor customer service, but developer community is among the best.
I wish you luck on your journey.

Judging by these comparisons I've found, the Axon7 has some advantages, but overall the OP3 still beats it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iln4VouVW-Q
Camera is better on the OP3 except the abysmal camcorder audio, which has been fixed on XDA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfGzHmIqbkY

the most important factor for me: Unlocking the bootloader, rooting and flashing roms is allowed by OnePlus! Also there is already a huge community for this device.
I was in the same situation as you are right now but quickly reconsidered after seeing these videos.
Their ui is ugly too

Well well... If that bootloader is unlocked I'm in
I'm also on the fence between OP3 and Axon 7; both devices have strong and weak points, but as OP say the ZTE UI and bootloader lock would make the difference.
Quality checks also do have importance, thus it would be nice to hear from existing Axon 7 owners.
You're not on an Axon 7 forum what's the point of this thread? If you want to move on a new phone our opinion doesn't matter.
Well if someone happen to have both, or experience with ZTE, it does. I am also interested to know. The Axon 7 I believe offers 2 UI choices; the ZTE one, and stock Android, which is a big plus (no DnD disabled-slider BS and whatnot). This is a good forum to discuss it, because the audience is tech-savy and can give good feedback on what they know about difference between Op3 and A7, I think.

This is the most important plus point for OP3 over axon.
And this is the reason I'll always go with OP3

Axon should have better display and audio (both DAC and speakers).
Design and development wise OP3 wins hands down, though.
Im on the same boat, the phone on paper beats the the 1+3 (bigger battery, better screen, better sound, expandable storage, etc) I almost preordered it, there are a few things holding me back, this will be my 1st time buying an ZTE phone, I dont know how good their hardware is, nobody knows anything about their update system, is uncertain if the bootloader will be unlocked, the black/grey version will be coming out the 2nd week of August by that time the next Nexus might already be announced (I know I might want that phone too).
@Giocarro
The OP3 DAC can easily compete with higher priced devices

Initial anecdotal impressions of the OP3 were very positive.
This phone has a clean, punchy, balanced output from the headphone jack,
and this amp is more powerful than the hardware found on the Galaxy S7 or LG G5.
Running this phone through some analyzer tools, it handily beat those two flagships,
and trailed directly behind some of our absolute favorite music phones like the HTC 10 and LG V10,
just nipping at the heels of the iPhone 6S. This was shocking in the best way possible.
The OnePlus 3 sounds like a very good option for the audiophile on a budget.
The bottom firing speaker is no slouch either. Not the loudest we’ve tested for alerts and notifications,
but providing detailed and crisp playback.

Good discussion guys. @AcmE85, the links you posted are very helpful!
Obviously, I could have taken this post to the ZTE forum but I didn't want to be inundated with responses from people that are overly excited about the ZTE. I figured here, people might be a little more calculated in their responses...and most of you have been. Thank you!
I just want to clearify that I am not biased.
I can admit that my OPOs display is objectively sharper than the OP3 when displaying small fonts for example...
I was also thinking about returning my OP3 for the ZTE but kept it in the end.
The Axon7 has some advantages, but in the areas which are most important to me the OP3 shines.
I probably would have waited for the next Nexus anyway if it wasn't for the OP3.

Haha funny I think the opposite. I think it is a better looking phone than the op3...especially from the front. From the back they are both equally attractive.

Please explain why you say that. Exclude updates (could be bootloader unlock)
I have had my OnePlus 5 since June 22nd and here is my review:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuEmB5PHAS0
Design
I quite like the design and OnePlus 5 does differentiate itself from the iPhone 7 Plus with subtle changes like the curved design and slimmer profile. The curved edges make it easier to hold as well. I am thoroughly enjoying my Midnight Black version as it looks gorgeous!
Software
There is nothing to talk about other than that OxygenOS rocks and OnePlus yet again has done a great job providing a top notch performance. I also quite like the customizations inbuilt, especially the ability to choose my custom icon pack. You can find more OnePlus 5 tips and tricks here in my video as well.
Camera
The camera has been good for me contrary to the reviews citing its bad. It does take good pictures in daylight and some of my low light shots have also come nice. Of course, I could not manage taking shots or videos while moving and night shots as the lack of OIS were clear. You can see my camera samples here.
What about known issues?
I tried looking hard but I just can't see the jelly effect in my OnePlus. Maybe I am used to it or my brain is not allowing it to see it.
What do you guys think? Is OnePlus 5 worth the hype? How is yours doing?
To me its worth the hype!! I know some people had bad experiences regarding the screen or camera but i feel non of it. Even if there is that jelly effect its not bugging me since its on other devices like samsung aswell. The fact that its inverted doesnt matter to me its only looking weird because the effect is inverted

Same, it's been stellar for me. I am waiting for some far better video stabilisation, but other than that, if one understands the legacy of the oneplus devices (the new nexus) then it is absolutely worth the hype.

I don't have the device yet, but I'm planning on buying it.
The price-performance ratio is great, compared to other Flagship phones. Also, OnePlus was always well supported in the custom ROM community. So that's another plus point.
Also, I think the reaction to that Jelly effect is exaggerated. They are just splitting hairs now. Sure, it may be annoying, but from what I saw, it's not something critical that makes the device unusable.
Most custom ROMs offer those kind of scroll animations too and people even use them. Logic...
I think coming from a samsung user this device is pretty awesome for the price.I've been using galaxy alpha for 2 and a half year now ,I bought the alpha around 500buck at launch which is the same as the oneplus 5 now. I can say that all samsung device suck except the flagship one (can never afford one btw). The screen, battery life, software support, custom rom community,camera...everything is bad.
The oneplus 5 on the other hand is pretty awesome in my opinion.I've been waiting for it like the last 5 months.I've never regret 1 single bit . I could never been more happy with what I own now.Well people say that the oneplus 5 is overprice, well i won't argue with them but coming from a 500$ buck galaxy alpha I think the oneplus 5 worth every penny.
And if we talking about hype idk,if you own a newly release device probably not worth the upgrade. If you're like me coming from an outdated device and need an upgrade. I think you will be happy with this phone
From a proud oneplus 5 owner
So need to replace my razer phone and not sure what to get. I like the fact that oneplus 6 is faster and already on pie but also like the spen. Can anyone who has either come from oneplus 6 or have both phones please comment especially on performance differences between the 2 please thanks.

You could do the same on your OP6 which makes te difference the same again...
@marvi0:
I switched from an OP6 and haven't regretted it since. Yes, the OP6 is absolutely awesome and the UI is quite a lot faster than the Note 9(exynos) running Samsung Experience.
But the Note 9 still is impressively fast and of course full of features. It's a 'no concession' phone packed with everything you can think of, hard- and softwarewise. It's the feature packed OS and top quality hardware that do it for me. The speakers are awesome in contrast to the OP6's tinny speaker and the battery lasts all day everyday. Also the camera's are among the best the market has to offer, it takes stunning pictures.
But in terms of speed and stability it just can't compete with the OnePlus 6 running Oxygen OS. That thing is just insanely fast(especially unlocking it with fingerprint or face) and quite stable actually. When you're in an app there's no detectable difference, but any action that involves Oxygen OS just happens instantly. So if that's your thing and you don't care about (sometimes gimmicky) features too much, I'd stick with the OP6.
Also you should not expect the same 'power to the users' attitude from Samsung. They do listen to the community, but kind of do it on their own terms and only when they feel like it.
I have both, the note is international version, seriously day to day use I feel no real difference but differently the op6 is snappier. And oneplus is the newer phone in my hand, I just loved the red color and got it as a second phone BUT, U get what u pay for in this case, note 9 has a much better screen, longer battery life, huge difference in speakers and noeird software issues (for example I can't download pubg from the play store on my op6) plus of course the Samsung extras ip68 spen dex bla bla bla
If u need an advice go for the note, it's selling as the same price as op6t on eBay which is just crazy stupid since the OP suppose to be half the price

Hi thanks. The note 9 you have is it the 6gb or 8gb variant?
I have both OP6(8,128) and Note 9(6,128).
For me, I use Note 9 to watch videos, becsuse it has a wonderful screen and powerful speakers.
I use OP6 to browse news, play games and communicate with others.IT IS SUPER FAST AND SMOOTH.
btw, I bring Note 9 to work. It is a nice tool, while OP6 is more likely a toy.
Get the Samsung note 9 it's almost as fast as the one us 6 or 6t lacked with more features

6gb my friend.
As said, note 9 is a great multifunctional tool, op6 it's a wonderful toy
I bought One plus 6 256 GB Storage 8 GB ram and using it 2 months then switch to Note 9 Exynos 6GB.
What I don't like
1. USB port sucks. only able to charge and transfer data. Can't connect with external devices.
2. If you root you get Widevine L3
3. Battery level sucks. almost not survive 1 day.
4. Only one speaker.
6. no wireless charge.
What I love.
1. It's extremely fast.
2. It's brick free. you can unbrick it by yourself.
3. Android Pie Stable ROM come very fast.
4. lack of bloatware.
5. Even you root your device. warranty won't void.
6. Dash charge is extremely fast.
7. OxygenOS is clean and stable.
The reason I change to Note 9 because mine was defect unit and I got a refund.
Mine was Widevine L3 no matter how I or Remote support guys were trying to fix it. It need to be sent to service center to fix it and it has none in Thailand.
If I can choose again I will choose one plus 6 and keep my extra money for something else.
Phew so based on you lovely guys views the note 9 has all the bells and whistles but it lacks the power and speed of the oneplus 6. That worries me though as speed does matter.

I have both the OP6T & Note 9.
The performance is comparable, any speed difference is negligible in daily use (unless you spend your days doing side-by-side comparisons,LOL).
If I had to choose,it's no contest, the Note 9 for the win.
If you value the S-Pen & Dex,the Note 9.
If not,save some $$$ & get the OnePlus,even going back to last year's OP5 or 5T.
I'm not picky on cameras,as long as the phone is quick to snap a relatively clear/sharp pic,it's all good to me.
If cameras are your thing, perhaps some Googling/YouTube search is in order for comparison.
Coming from someone who had the 6t and switched to the note 9 (paid $50 for restocking fee) I think the note 9 is a much better device. Hardware is better the battery is better, display is better and all those extra features are just the icing on the cake. Trust me.

The Note 9 does not lack speed. It's like the comparison between a BMW M5 and a Ferrari. The BMW does not lack speed at all, but the Ferrari remains quite a bit faster. The BMW however does do/have a ton of other practical things that a Ferrari can't.
And like I said, you'll only notice the difference in speed in UI actions and not when running apps. In terms of power the two devices are basically capable of doing the same thing because of their SOC's. However, you might want to go for a Note 9 if you're a gamer or use some heavy apps as it has liquid cooling. My OP6 did warm up quite a bit when running CAD apps or games like Asphalt 9, the Note 9 stays noticeably cooler.
Having owned both phones it's hard to say because both are really good phones and you can't go wrong with either or.

Very true, no other phone handles multitasking as well as Samsung flagships and especially the Note series! What I meant with capability of doing the same things was the performance of the SOC's.
Where do I start with this, well let's start with my S10 plus 512gb version as that was my daily driver since launch. For me that's a seriously long time to stay with the same phone. It still is top notch, pardon the punt.
I never thought I would leave my favourite phone for so many reasons on the shelve to pickup the cheaper Oneplus.
The following are the reasons why I'm currently holding on to Oneplus 7 pro, the features which I most impressed with:
1. QHD 6.67" amoled screen, vibrant big and bright all screen. Nearly as vibrant as Samsung's screen.
2. Camera best Oneplus have produced. Images sharp with good detail, really impressed. Obviously not as good as Samsung's but for me good enough. I'm not a massive picture taker or selfies person.
3. Loud dual speakers, again this is top notch. Not as full or rich sound as S10 plus but it's darn close. Another surprise.
4. Triple SSS performance (coin that one) - Super smooth speedy performance. No strutting or freezing experienced yet.
5. Near stock firmware with a few Oneplus touches.
6. Quick updates to latest Android software.
7. Pop up camera prefer it over the hole in the screen, use it unlock phone as it's cool.
8. That damn refresh rate, boy ow boy is it smooth. This has completely spoilt me, it's fluid. This was always missing in android phones when comparing to iPhone. It's not perfect but it's brilliant.
It's pricey but when I consider how much other flagships are selling for its value for money.
I would pick this phone over every other phone even though it doesn't have wireless charging and waterproof ratings and only 256gb storage. Anyone overly reliant on these features then this phone isn't for you. Fortunately I'm not and I'm sticking with it for as long as I can.
So far I haven't missed my s10 plus and I'm glad Oneplus took this flagship route too. And I'm glad they've given people choice of going premium or the cheaper version.
Any questions give me a shout.
totally agree with everything you wrote!
This is my first day using this phone, also switching from the s10+ 512
Also I have come from the S10+ 8/512gb Ceramic White, whilst I very much enjoyed my experience, and Samsung produced a solid device.
The user experience is the selling point for OnePlus, it is simply untouched at this point, it's a perfect blend if you will.
I'm not saying I had any issues with my S10+ it was smooth, and OneUI is a remarkable improvement. However there was 4 Solid reasons for me to switch.
1)The 90htz all screen display, now I have experienced 90htz with the R.O.G and it's something I very much appreciate, also an uninterrupted screen, (the punch hole is not bad) but having the Find X and Next previously I grew to appreciated (no interruptions).
2)30w Fast charging, yeah this is a great thing (currently have 44w with my Vivo IQOO) and when using the S10+ with 15w it was painstakingly slow in comparisons.
3)UFS 3.0 now this was included in the "Galaxy Fold" why it wasn't present in the S10+ or even the 5G variant is Monday boggling, as clearly it can be massed produced and Samsung are in the semiconductor industry so "confused" but another reason to switch it up.
4) Software oh boy do I fully appreciate oxygenOS is clean, well optimised and has a fine blend. It's almost perfect, and in some ways better than stock itself (although it's close to)
5)ok I'm adding in but it is a great development device, still now OnePlus are friendly in this regard and in my opinion I think they are fully sensible as they learn so much from this, the development community gives them information on what we want improved, implemented, the likes and dislikes, even development that makes things better like Gcam, they learn from this. So their is no arrogance, this I like.
Samsung are closing doors and TWRP has to run on the boot partition now (not good).
So I'm not saying the S10+ is not a great device it's fantastic, it's just not quite as good as a user experience you get with OnePlus. Ok camera needs work on the 7 Pro, but I think it will get there and for the pics I take it's perfectly acceptable.
Will get my 7 Pro tomorrow, looking forward to that great user experience.
I only wish the oneplus had the gs10 plus type of curve display since they decided on a curve. The gs10 plus curves almost at the end of the border while the 7 pro curves at 75% of the screen.
I also switched from an S10+ for the display without a notch, better update support, and overall smoothness of OnePlus phones. I'm deciding whether or not to keep it as a back up since the resale value has plummeted.
Goodbye to my nice S10 Plus and hello cool 1+7Pro! Cheers
I honestly was debating whether to get the S10 plus or the 7 pro. Decided on the 7 pro and was going to think about it for the next week since I have 14 days from date of purchase to return the phone. My mind is made up now so now I'm trying to get my wife one now.
I own both the 7 Pro and the S10+
This is coming from someone who hasn't owned a Samsung since the Note 4 and has owned almost every OnePlus device.
While the 7 Pro is a really good phone the S10+ is just better. The only things better on the 7 Pro is the screen scrolling (90htz), OnePlus gestures (best Android gestures hands down), UFS 3.0 storage, and screen off gestures.
The fingerprint reader is faster on the 7 Pro but the fingerprint reader on S10+ works when your fingers are wet, and you don't need to wake the screen to use it.
I do like the size of the 7 Pro (I like bigger phones) but in-hand the S10+ feels better, 7 Pro is thicker than the S10+.
Samsung's new One UI is nothing like the old Touchwiz. The S10+ has so many customization option it's not even funny. I have found no reason to want to root the S10+ (coming from someone who has rooted every single phone they have owned).
7 Pro camera is ok but the camera on the S10+ is good if not great (not Pixel great).
The S10+ will be my daily driver and the 7 Pro will be my rooting, flashing, playing around on phone.
I have both the S10 5g and OP7 Pro. Both are outstanding devices. You can't go wrong with either. But the price difference can't be overlooked. With tax, the S10 5g (512gb) is double that of the OP7 Pro. Think about that for a minute...DOUBLE!! How may things can you think of that are half the price of the competition and actually better?!?!? I can't think of any. Says a lot about OP and what they have accomplished. There are obviously pros/cons with both devices. Depends what your needs are. Kudos to Samsung & OnePlus for making great devices!
Sent from my GM1917 using Tapatalk
I may be only one, but I think the overall performance of the 7 pro is in a whole other league. I've yet to ever see this thing stutter at anything I've done on it. Cannot say the same about my current S10+ ceramic or any other one I've had including the crazy 12gb 1T variant. I've had the U, U1, W, F and F/DS and most of the time phone will stutter. It was most noticable when unlocking it and going to the home screen, mind you my home screen is not a clutter fest but a simple single row of 5 icons and one clock. Then in general use, chrome would take a bit to open etc.
Then there is the wireless power share, total gimmick if you ask me. It's cool sure, but useful to what degrees? Maybe if you got the Galaxy buds (which wore also asstwine aipod sounding hot garbage) and charge them when going to bed.
Wireless charging? Could careless for it, never use it anyway.
Built quality tho will have to go to Samsung. The 7 pro feels nice in the hand and you can feel it's much better then the 6T which felt like a $200 toy but it can't beat the feel of the S10+. I've also noticed OnePlus uses some sort of lower quality of metal for their housing as I'm noticing some fine scratches from 2 days of use and being super careful with it. Never had that issue with the s10+, no case ever, no screen protector and not a single micro scratch.
Coming from a Note 9....I really like OP font and speed. As others mentioned, even chrome is faster loading. Yes the screen on the Note is much better and the gcam loaded on the Note owns OP...for now anyways, but something about this phone smoothness and speed has me hooked on it. I'm still in the 14 day window on it and thus still deciding to keep it... But otherwise I love it. Love the OS, speed, gestures, etc. The screen curve is ok, but could have been better. Look at it like this guy's.... It's better than what's coming from pixel 4....
True, the Pixel's are always behind and have a hard time catching up with once a year release...
What I prefer Samsung S10 plus ceramic
over Oneplus 7 pro.
S10 plus build quality ceramic version feels and looks much more premium
S10 plus is thinner
S10 plus speakers
S10 plus camera and video recording options
S10 plus 512gb memory option
Would I go back to S10 probably not as I'm Oneplus is almost my ideal phone. After using Oneplus software, screen refresh and triple SSS performance I couldn't.
Hello
i'm currently using Galaxy S9+ and i'm thinking to upgrade to. new device. I don't really know which device i should go for.
I love the p5. Perfect size, beautiful screen, best camera, and finally and INSANE battery.
I upgraded to the p5 from the p4 mainly for battery and it was completely worth it. It's impossible for me to kill it in one day.

Faster updates, better secreen colors (except the 90Hz), better battery i guess and the design is better
Go for oneplus 8t then. Battery the same from what I see. Updates regular, way faster device, better screen from Samsung than this P-oled.
Go for the 5
Yeah, go for the P5 ... its a solid phone and you'll always be the first getting Android updates.
I come from OnePlus and their update procedure and policy is a mess, especially when your phone gets older. Its the same with other brands, too, as far as I heard.
I cant speak for the 8t but i came from 7t to a Pixel 5 and i don't regret it at all. Oneplus updates are bi-monthly and your phone soon starts dropping down the priority list as they release new phones. The last straw for me was after 12 months of ownership 2 camera bugs were not fixed, photos taken with the ultrawide were nearly always blurred when taking landscapes which is kind of the point of an ultrawide.
The pixel may be a better upgrade now...
Unless you want to wait for the OnePlus 9 around March....
I used OnePlus phones the last couple of years and they are on a steep downhill in my opinion.
More and more devices but the support is getting less by the minute. And if you even get an update they're addressing not important things.
As on the Nord they were working on the macro lens. ?
Coming from the 7T pro and Nord i really love and enjoy my Pixel 5. For me it's almost perfect, the only thing i really dislike are the stereo speakers. They should have been much better!
I personally love the size, it feels good and looks good.
It's light, superb software and performance and indeed insane battery life!
Support and camera are the parts where OnePlus really messes up, for everything else they still make great products for decent prices.
LOL, did you ask in the OnePlus forum?
I would go with the p5 but only when it's on sale, definitely not at $700. The OnePlus is technically a better value for the price but Google is much better about fixing bugs and doing it quickly than OnePlus by a long shot.
Go with Pixel ... OP's update policies, procedures and delays are getting worse and worse, with a Pixel you get updates on time every single month. I myself come from OP, so I know what I'm saying.

I totally agree with you, after 2 years with OnePlus (6T and 7T) I switched to the Pixel 5 and I'm really happy with it
