Why would you do that?
No to the downgrade question not possible at all. Phone came out in android 7.1.1 and once on oreo with bootloader v4 you can't even go back to android 7.1.1.
Miui if phone is rooted and a dev ported it over to note 8 then yes. Unrooted then No.
Search for launchers on play store that looks like android 4.1.2 (hopefully they will work on later android versions, but since everyone moved on who knows just have to try a few).

if i will root my device then warranty will go out right? In past, i rooted my note 5. but that got one problem after rooting called deep sleep mode problem. Is it safe to root? I have good knowledge of rooting so i am pretty sure that i can root without problem but afterwards there is any problem or not?
Thanks for help

What's your note 8 snapdragon (sm-n950U1/u/w) or exynos (SM-N950F/DS)?
If snapdragon then you have a locked bootloader which means only root and touchwiz custom rom (no MIUI) if your bootloader is v3 and below if v4 and up NO root.
If exynos then you'll have an unlock bootloader and check the note 8 rom forums. (So far it's all touchwiz roms atm, not much is happening) And yes once rooted Knox is forever tripped (no going back, so no Samsung pay, secure folder.) Depends where you live warranty will be gone (depend on your country's rules)..

[Q]Install Update (2.3.6) - Root later?

Hey there,
Now I am also a proud owner of a Galaxy Note
Just one little question:
I am pretty sure, that I will root this device - like i did with all my android devices. But I would like to wait a couple of weeks, to be sure that this device working fine so far, you know, warranty etc...
I am currently running the 2.3.5 firmware and there is an update avaliable (i believe it's 2.3.6) - Am I able to root my device even after updating?
There are some HTC devices, which are not rootable with the latest stock firmware - that's why I'm asking
I appreciate any help

[Q] Android version for note

Hi,
My note came with android version 4.0.3 and I got tuns of problem (from application that collapse and random restart of the device).
Is it probably an androind problem or my device hardware is not good?
What is the most recommended (and stable!) android version for the note?
You get a note with Android 4??? A new one or from ebay or something?
Android 4 isnt officially released for the note, so you must have a leaked or custom rom on you device.
My advice would be:
Go back to Gingerbread (Android 2.3) there are a lot of HowTo's in this forum
your note is sure second handed
At least tempered by someone

[INFO]WARNING: Android 5.0 Bootloader and Kitkat Compatibility

Android 5.0 (Lollipop) Bootloader and KitKat Compatibility
Everyone wants Lollipop, however it is worth considering some of the possible consequences of upgrading via OTA update.
Bootloader:
A new Bootloader (BL) will almost certainly be included in the OTA update. It is also very likely no KitKat Kernel, stock or custom will be able to boot properly with the 5.0 BL. Perhaps the Kernel DEVs can find a workaround.
Root: (ETA: Unknown)
It may take some time to gain root access on Lolipop as on other devices this has required a custom Kernel. A custom kernel itself may require kernel sources to be released - something that has taken weeks / months in the past.
Xposed Framework:
Developer has said he will wait for CyanogenMod based on Lollipop before properly starting development of an ART version of Xposed. CM12 may take a few weeks to release. Expect to do without Xposed for at least a month, probably longer since root is also required (see above.)
Custom Recovery:
This has not been an issue before, but it is always possible a new Bootloader could break compatibility with existing Custom Recoveries. Obviously, you would not be able to restore a CWM / TWRP backup without a functional custom recovery; but even then, it is unlikely you will be able to boot your KitKat backup.
Custom ROMs:
This is another area that could be affected by a new Bootloader. It is unknown if existing custom ROMs will require new Kernels / system changes in order to work with the new BL - something that could take days, weeks or months.
Performance:
Currently the performance difference between KitKat and Lollipop is unknown. If the first release of Lollipop for Android One has performance issues, you may be unable to revert back to stock KitKat.Possible solution:
Wait for a flashable zip [NOT OTA Update zip] of Stock Android One Lollipop ROM - this would mean your Bootloader remains at it's current version and potentially allowing you to change 'back and forth' between Stock KitKat and Stock Lollipop. However, it is currently unknown if the newer BL is a requirement for Android 5.0 Kernels.
This is taken from the Moto G thread and all credits goes to @lost101.The sole motive of this is to create awareness about the new bootloader included in 5.0
Thanks For The Info @DC07 :highfive:
Thanks For The Information Bruda !!

Nope. The bootloader was updated on my nexus 7 flo for the 4.4.2 OTA. Since this update is much bigger I think we'll have a bootloader update too.

Downgrade to Android 4.1?

Is it possible to downgrade to stock rom android 4.1? I know that there is no stock rom 4.1 for Note 5. What if I use stock rom from Note 2?

Back-porting a JB rom from a Note2 ?
Why would you need a downgrade, any specific reason?
I found MM to be one of the most polished Android to date.
I like to unlock my phone without having to go to a third party unlocker to do the work for me. So downgrading to 4.1, I can access its technical side and simply just unlock it.

Nougat on Note 3?

I still have a Note 3 wifi only that i use for games. It has 4.4.2 Dynamic 6.1 KillerKat on it. Any chance Nougat rom has been made for this device and could I install it still? Been a while since I have flashed any roms.
The att note 3 had a locked bootloader so there is no nougat for this phone.

Could you explain a little more please? I have Safestrap root with a custom rom on an ATT Note 3. Since I could care less for the ATT part could I install a custom rom that runs nougat if no one made one for the ATT version? I only use this on wifi and it's well out of warranty.
The phone can only flash ROMs that work with safestrap and there are no nougat roms that user safestrap.

Okay now I understand. Thank you.
Hi guys , I have been looking through xda and could not find a single discussion on basics of installing custom rom on android devices my very first question is
1.) I have a smasung galaxy note 3 n9005 currently running 5.0 lollipop version, I tries to install a marshmallow custom rom on this device but it fails and I have to again restore my back up so I want to ask whether it is compulsory to install a marshmallow kernel for a marshmallow rom or can a marshmallow rom install on lollipop kernel .
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
No clue about the kernels.
Where might I find a list of ROMS that can be loaded with Safestrap?
This is not the forum for the n9005. The sm-n9005 forum is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3
Installing a custom ROM on the AT&T note 3 on very different from the international note 3 as the AT&T note 3 has a locked bootloader.
