Hello,
I have a Verizon phone with baseband N950USQU4CRF3 but my Service provider SW Ver. shows VZW/XAA/VZW instead of VZW/VZW/VZW.
Is there a way to go back to original VZW/VZW/VZW? Would simply flashing stock Verizon firmware in Odin resolve this?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, it does matter. At current state, I cannot send or receive MMS messages. The one difference I found is in the Mobile Networks menu. VZW/XAA/VZW does not have option to choose between LTE/CDMA or global in preferred network mode as in Verizon version. I have preferred network mode as CDMA/EDVO/GSM/WCDMA. The weird thing is that although this option is automatically chosen, all the other options which I can manually choose are for only GSM and none for CDMA.
Go to the carrier switching thread and follow the instructions there. That will fix it no problem.
Are you sure? I thought I cant do carrier switching because my bootloader is v4. Also, it doesnt have combination file for v4.

Gotcha. If there's no combination file for v4 then you probably can't do it. Sorry, it's been a minute since I did any carrier switching.
I have this same issue on my VZW note 8 vzw/xaa/vzw and I cannot get volte to work. I've tried flashing the CRID update several times but it didn't work.
I was able to get the SIM card trick to work for me on my Note 8 as well. I have redpocket and prior to doing the sim card trick I did not have VoLTE. Now I do. It's too bad that this is majorly inconvenient and it won't stick after a reboot, by the sounds of it. I haven't tried yet. I may just tape the sim to the back of my phone or inside my case. Also, on my Note 8 prior to this, I was seeing vzw/xaa/vzw and now it has the vzw/vzw/vzw CSC with the RP sim in. I'm hoping that there is another way to fix this but at least I have a work around.

Get a Verizon SIM
Insert said SIM and reboot when prompted.
Go into emergency mode, hold power and select emergency mode
Once in emergency mode, remove Verizon SIM and insert RP SIM.
Check CSC and network mode, should say vzw/vzw/vzw and LTE/CDMA for network
Final verification test, place a call while on 4g, you should have simultaneous 4g data and VoLTE call.
If phone reboots, it will revert network to previous erroneous network and CSC settings which do not allow VoLTE and simultaneous data. Repeat all above steps after said reboot.

thank you for this info. Glad that there is some kind of solution.
I always thought the problem was because I once flashed to unlocked firmware and reverted back to original Verizon firmware. But this solution proves that the problem is due to changes in firmware upgrade to higher Oreo version. Basically, we are stuck in this mode because we can not go back to previous version firmware.

Yup I came to the same conclusion. It seems something is a miss with Verizon Oreo and MVNOs. My dad has this issue with Straight Talk.

I updated to Pie and now I can't even use the SIM card trick as VoLTE doesn't work apparently. The Advanced Calling option is still there. I hate you Verizon.

isnt the VS980 supposed to be unlocked for GSM use ?
I am in India at the moment...i have 3 Verizon G2 phones...SIM cards work fine on 2 of them...On the third one...it does not detect the mobile network...sim is detected ,coz it gives no alert...and when i search for networks...the networks are shown...it just doesnt connect to the network...the sim cards work fine in other phones...in the other G2 phones and in a HTC DROID DNA...so its not the sim at fault....
Have tried multiple SIM cards from Vodafone/Loop Mobile/Airtel...none of them work on this particular phone..
When i search for networks...im getting networks...but cant connect to them...most times it shows error while searching for network...
What can be the problem ?
Please help me out...otherwise will have to send the phone all the way back to USA...
if i am right... verizon phone is unlocked to all US carriers only....try to verify if its globally unlocked
EDGE/GSM (850/900/1800/1900), HSPA/UMTS (850/900/1900/2100)*
those are the frequence bands it support.
India support 900 1800
So technically it should work..

I got 3 Verizon g2... 2 of them work fine with Indian sim cards.
The third one is facing this problem.. I thought the IMEI was lost.. But IMEI is still intact and dame as that on the box.. Also Verizon g2 has no unlocking system as it is already unlocked..
That ink which u posted says it is unlocked for us carriers.. And not that it cannot be used outside the US.. People use it in UK, Australia.. Mexico.. Germany.. To name a few..
It seems the efs partition is corrupt but I don't know how to fix that as I have no backup..
Also if it wasent unlocked the sim won't be detected.
When I search for networks, the networks show.. It just doesn't connect..
The problem exists only in one of the 3 phones..
Ok then install custom rom and try with that.
I can recommend you for cloudy g3 rom. Best one out there
If your phone is not rooted and no custom recovery then open towelroot.com from your phone and install apk and it will root right a way
Then install rashr flash tool from play Market and install twrp recovery.
It's the easiest methods to install custom recovery and root I can recommend.
I hope this will work for you and don't forget to setup apn setting if data plan not working

VS980 not picking LTE Frequency
I am from Pakistan and I have the same issue. Did anyone find any solution?
Ihave thisproblem too
I am using Verizon G2 32gb.. and yes... signal reception is so so soo poor.. at same locaiton, others handsets with same network are receiving very good signals while its on no network :/
Not picking any frequency or signal at all
Upgraded my VS980 to lolipop and after a couple of days same thing happened to me. I am in Pakistan btw. Sim is working fine on any other mobile. Have tried restoring to stock nothing happened. One thing i want to add is when i change my location sometimes for a couple of minutes, network do appear. But it does not makes call or uses data then it again gets to emergency calls only status... Phone is no better then i web browser now.... Help needed
Also not connecting (But it detects networks)
I have an lg vs980 and I was using it with H2O wireless and later I changed to Simple Mobile. I'm living in Puerto Rico. The phone was working all right and, suddenly, one day it was always displaying 'emergency calls only'.
I did factory reset, then I reflashed stock lollipop and it was like nothing happened, keeps displaying 'emergency calls only'.
Then I found this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2394689 and applied the patch but didn't seem to resolve the problem.
As a last resort I tried flashing cm 12.1 and before first boot applied the patch from the cited thread but no result, keeps displaying 'emergency calls only'.
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
Hey, guys this is my first post here on XDA so please apologize me for any inconvenience.
I bought LG G4 Sprint i.e., LS991 yesterday from someone else I don't have contact with him now. The sim card which works on 3G was working fine when I bought it. But, then I tried to go in settings and then to mobile network and I opened the list of network bands and unfortunately I was only able to find only two option that are 1. CDMA/LTE and 2. CDMA.
I was forced to select one from it and boom no signals at all and status says searching for service. Where is the GSM option? I'm sure that this phone is already unlocked and it is from Sprint.
Also, I'm on the latest software version that is LS991ZVD. Can I go back to ZV6 International ROM or will it brick my device?!

Bro, I found this on this site:
1. go to settings and add new APN manually (fill the values according to your carrier).
2. in the APN type input "default, dun, fota".
3 .save.
4. Restart phone and you are good to go.
Works like a charm... The signal loss thing happened to me too. Don't select either option after you fix it. Go to backup and reset and reset your network settings. I think this is what I did to solve the problem.

Unfortunately here in australia the telcos have blocked dual sim capabilities for this phone as well as blocking us from purchasing unlocked dual SIM devices from samsung themselves under a contract. i however heard from 3 seperate samsung reps that it is a CSC issue which can be resolved by rooting and removing the given telco CSC (in this case optus) and replacing it with an unlocked version. is this correct or does there need to be 2 device IMEI on the phone for dual sim to work??
I've downloaded the XSA firmware for us Aussies and will be uploading it to MEGA soon. But can any one tell me wether it's simply a CSC ISSUE or will I just have to live with single SIM??

I don't think changing your CSC to XSA requires a root. But yet to to find a working solution myself. I tried flashing the XSA stock firmware, but it doesn't change the CSC from OPS to XSA. I'll try flashing another country firmware and move it back to XSA and see if this changes the CSC to XSA.
Apparently you need to put a different SIM in for 5 mins to make it unbranded I'll be trying DR.Ketans rom and see what the difference is than maybe I can get it to work. We still need a dual SIM tray also

Ah cool. I'll try that later tonight if i have time. True that we will need the hybrid sim tray. I wonder if we can get a hybrid sim tray from Samsung to keep the waterproofing intact. Bit worried with the quality of the aftermarket products in relation to the waterproofing of the phone.
I found this thread about changing CSC for Note 8.

But everytime I flashed the combination file, ODIN stucked at odm.img.

I'll try flashing to another country ROM and then follow the steps on your original thread and flash using the combination rom for Note 9. All i want is to change the CSC from Optus to XSA.

Thankfully I bought from Samsung (pre-order)... Came with Hybrid Sim card holder and 2 IMEI's though I have yet to try...
Cool. I'll give it a go now that I have it and if the new sim tray and flashed stock rpm doesn't work Telstra can stick it and I'll get from Samsung too...
What i've done so far:
Got a hybrid sim tray. Doesn't reject the second sim.
Flashed with odin and the stock XSA rom. Didn't work.
Flashed with Dr Ketan using TWRP. Doesn't work.
Tried to enable the sim manager setting using package disabler. Enables it but no way to access the settings.
Used a shortcut app to try to access the sim manager setting but crashed out.
About to try a different rom...
It seems to be software related only.
If there was a way to access the sim manager setting/software...
Where did you get the hybrid sim tray?
I'd assume the lack of an imei for the second sim would be the issue

Looks the firmware is same for OPS/TEL/VAU and public version.
I believe the logic should be same as Note 8, it's controlled by EFS not only CSC number, you also cannot change the HOME CSC.
So you have to decrypt the EFS, write the second IMEI, then you will have the dual SIM function.

You still cannot connect to network even you can open the sim manager app.
You don't have the second IMEI which is required for network.
The rom is same for Australia and New Zeland, you won't able to change your CSC if you just flash the rom in ODIN.
You have to use combination rom to change your CSC, but I don't think you can change your HOME CSC, you only can your normal CSC.
Dual sim function is not controlled by CSC if the logic is same as NOTE8.
OK, been a little while coming but I FINALLY got around to testing my Samsung bought XSA Note 9 for dual sim cards.
Both sim cards work fine, Just means my sd card is now floating around out of the phone and my backup phone has no sim...
Made and received calls off both sim cards.
So, the dual sim Note 9 bought directly from Samsung Australia with the XSA firmware CAN use both sim cards. It does have 2 different IMEI numbers and both work...
Glad I got the Samsung phone over the Telco distributed phone as it seems they have actually crippled one of the primary features of this awesome device...
Cheers...

hey mate i got a genuine one off ebay from the UK
Hi. I am a complete noob when it comes to rooting Android.
**************************UPDATE************************************************
THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN SOLVED. PLEASE SCROLL TO POST #89 ON PAGE 9 TO SEE THE SOLUTION.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77950935&postcount=89
***************************************************************************************************
I bought an *unlocked* Samsung Note 9 N960F/DS (Exynos 9810) international phone from a seller on ebay brand new and sealed. Received the phone yesterday (10/19/2018) and popped my working existing sim card from my iphone 6 with T-mobile into the new phone and it *worked*.........except no wifi calling.
Since my house has terrible reception I really do need wifi calling in order to receive calls (I use Skype for outbound). I decided to root and install Detonator (tekhd) even though I've never done this before. Somewhere along the line I messed up and installed the latest LUX ROM because I misred Tekhd's guide on Detonator (my fault).
Here's where I stand now: I found a stock ROM for this model (N960F/DS) and reinstalled it using Odin3 v3.13.1.
After a successful flash when I insert my working T-mobile sim I get "SIM network PIN blocked. Enter SIM network PUK."
Here the Service Provider SW shows XEU/XEU,XEU/MYM
I get the *same* message when I insert a spare T-mobile sim I happened to have that was confirmed as available with T-mobile customer service. If I take the working sim out and put it back into the other phone it works without a problem. I think that rules out the sim cards having issues.
Earlier when I had the phone rooted and Detonator installed (and working), I got a different message when I inserted the SIM:
Network Lock: This device can be remotely unlocked if eligible.
Please use the "Device Unlock" application to unlock the device.
Make sure the device has an internet connectivity to use the "Device Unlock application".
Here the Service Provider SW showed TMB/TMB/MYM.
I tried looking for a T-mobile Unlock App apk to download but could not find a recent one. I would get a "Device not supported" error. It seems T-mobile has taken it off the Playstore.
Now, I can't install a stock USA ROM from T-mobile because those ROMS are only for the Snapdragon versions and I have the Exynos chip. I was given two unlock codes over the phone with T-mobile customer service to try and unlock the Pin lock but they both did not work.
Do you think an unlock service will be able to provide me with a valid "Sim Network PUK" code? I'm happy to pay for the service if I can just get the damn phone working. I've spent almost $770 on this phone and in hindsight should just have gotten the T-mobile branded phone for $100 more. I'm really at a loss as to what I can do to rectify this situation.
Also in hindsight I should have done more research before purchasing the phone and also should have backed up my partition in TWRP........You live and you learn.
The irony here is that I had an unlocked phone.....and now it has somehow gotten locked.........by the carrier whose SIM card is working perfectly fine......in a different phone. The device was paid in full btw.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hi. I am a complete noob when it comes to rooting Android.
Here the Service Provider SW showed TMB/TMB/MYM.

this is a first. I always though once the region lock was lifted it couldn't be relocked( to me it seems to be a region lock issue, which if it is you need to make a 5 min call on region soil... good luck)
anyways check on your box there is a sticker with model and serial . find what carrier or region its from and grab that firmware and flash it. might want to factory wipe everything (including cache) in the recovery before booting it up indownlaod mode to do Odin flash.
also remove sim before wiping/ flashing, let it boot and do the initial setup then insert sim.

I did wipe and reinstall the stock rom with the sim removed. The strange thing is..........I get the same message if I insert an old, blank, unused t-mobile sim into the device. Plus the working sim works fine in my old phone. So how could it be that the sim is locked?
There is nothing on the box that says anything about a carrier. This was advertised and sold as a factory unlocked phone which by all indications it does seem to be. The only thing on the box that says anything about country is that it was manufactured in vietnam.

Yes there are stickers. But it is not associated with a carrier, specific region, or country. I just see IMEI info on the sticker on the back of the phone and S/N.

did you flash one of these?
these should be the original firmware U1 and the lates U2 which if you flash wint be able to downgrade bootloader but shouldn't be causing rhe sim lock issue.
flash U1 first and see if it fixes your issue. then try the October U2 just for fun
you can also download it using samfirm tool
enter 960F and MYM in settings it should also be a faster download then the web links

but be sure to wipe all with no sim before flashing
and in Odin fill in all slots and for csc use CSC but not HOME csc file.

yeah might as well use tarp. and erase all. but before, did you sift through internal s or ext s for an efs backup that detonator might have made automatically?
check for a folder called .backup and or for a file like:
efs_backup.img.gz
efs_backup.img
or anything similar

No, but I did download Dr. Ketan's tool to make an efs backup. But that was way later in the process....so it wasn't the original efs directory......It was after I flashed my current "stock" rom. I'm going to try and find another site to download since that one will take 2 days on slow speed......
Btw what does the ZBD mean? MYM I figured is Myanmar......

well ure screwed either way. the goal is to restore everything back to stock and see if you can get a line working
btw was there a seal on the box that you had to break in order to open the box when you first got it?
Afternoon Folks,
As many of you may know Xfinity just started supporting Android devices, specifically S8/S9/Note9/10/etc. I've been looking for a reason to switch from Verizon's higher cost points, and since Xfinity uses Verizons towers, and I already have Xfinity I figured I'll bundle them all together.
Yesterday, I wandered into an Xfinity store to get a sim card, and when they entered my IMEI, it returned with a "IMEI error - Hardware not compatible" error and was told they wouldn't be able to give me a sim. Now, I'm fairly confident that if I got my hands on a SIM, it'd work without issue.
Does anyone have any idea why my IMEI would come back as not compatible? It's an original phone that I purchased last August on release day. It's is an Unlocked Note 9 SM-N960U currently on the Verizon network, and hasn't been refurbished, or even dropped for that matter.
I'd really prefer not to go out and purchase a new phone just to use on their network. I have thrown around the idea of swapping my wife and I's phones (she has a S9), taking it in there and having them give me a SIM then just swapping it, but that sounds like a lot of work.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Paul

nah wont change a thing then. ure fone looks good to go.. no idea why rhey are having issues then.
It couldn't hurt. I bought mine from Xfinity Mobile and used the patched Odin to flash the U1 ROM and still have Xfiniity Mobile service.
Failing that, you should be able to use patched Odin to flash the Xfinity Mobile stock ROM.

but its the xfinity system that wont even register his iemi. not the phone that doesnt have service....
Until after flashing the Xfinity Mobile ROM, he takes it into another store, waits for the agent to say that the system won't recognize his IMEI, reboots the phone and asks the agent why, all the time showing the Xfinity Mobile boot animation, which should get the matter escalated.
Edited to add:
Their system is broken, when requesting SIM unlock codes for my wife and my Note 9s, the code I received for my phone via emailing, telephoning or walking into the local store did not work. All three requests resulted in the same code, which I had tried two out of the three times that you can enter an incorrect code before it locks for good.
The agent had to use the 'Unfreeze' code to unlock my phone, and gave me the unfreeze code for my wifes. I didn't try the unlock code but instead used the unfreeze code tied to her IMEI, and unlocked it on the first try.

I think I agree. The research I've done said an individual went in and they said they had to manually add their imei into the database then everything worked.
It's sad it's this difficult. -.-

Upon consideration, as the firmware that I linked to, and used, is listed as an unknown carrier version, I am not sure how it knew to show the Xfinity Mobile boot animation, Was/ is there some kind of flag in another partition that the U1 firmware doesn't look for that the U firmware did?
Considering this, I now believe that it is not worth the risk trying that firmware.

Did you insert an XFinity SIM before or after flashing? I remember reading that if you factory reset your phone, Pie will read the SIM and brand it based on the service provider leading me to believe you already had an XFinity SIM inserted into the phone.

It was purchased from them, so that is the only SIM that I had.
You're probably going to have to do the SIM swap shuffle by using your wife's phone as the Bring Your Own Phone.
The reason it shows incompatible is because they don't support BYOD as yet official on xfinity mobile. You have to use an iphone for byod or buy the cheapest phone they have and then swap the sim card over. That is what my wife and I had to do when we switched back to Xfinity.

Firmware won't help because of all the US N960u/U1 devices being the exact same. Even the firmware files are the same. The U1 just doesn't have bloat apps. The boot screen you see is based on the last or current sim card entered into the device.

plus new firmware dosen't magically white list or have any impact on imei. so what every firmware is flashed, imei is unaffected, and moreover the Xfinity dosen't system still sees the same old number and dosent know what to do with it.
