Hi, I'm using Magisk on my LG G2 with RessurectionRemix 5.7 and am looking to update to the Nougat version 5.8. I want to start clean, so will wipe system before the update, but will I have to flash Magisk again after that? What are the steps here, flash the ROM + gapps, unroot, flash Magisk?

Yep that should be about it. To be sure try safetynet after unrooting and after magisk

Flashed the ROM and magisk last night, so far so good, safetynet passes I went for a clean install this time, but if I was to dirty flash an update now would magisk survive that?

No because Magisk modifies the boot image, which gets overwritten with a new one when you flash a ROM, clean or dirty. So you'll need to flash Magisk again.

Was suspecting this might be the case, thanks for clarifying this. At least I know all the steps now, should be only getting more familiar with every flash

afaik Resurrection Remix has addon.d (check if /system/addon.d exists)
you can test this https://github.com/osm0sis/GN-Synap...mdisk/res/synapse/scripts/999-customkernel.sh or modify it to flash magisk instead of the backup (in case you got an updated kernel)

wow, that'd be great if it worked. I can confirm addon.d exists, I might try this next time. Do I just put the script into addon.d and flash ROM?

Flashed an RR update to 5.8.1 over the weekend and it went smoother than I expected, to be honest. Didn't use the script you mentioned in the end, just flashed the new ROM, gapps, unsu.zip, magisk and phh's su in TWRP and rebooted. Simple.

Yes, of course the manual method works :good:
phh-SU was removed in Magisk v11 btw - root is now integrated (MagiskSU).
I still need to have phh's Superuser management app installed. And now on boot I get a notification that my SU binary is out of date. The transition here has been a bit rough.

Are you on about updating your ROM or magisk? Phh su app is required for magisk v10.2, you need to remove it if you're using magisk v11 or later

In reference to this, does reflashing Magisk alter anything within Magisk? Namely and really the only thing that would come to mind is it downgrading the Manager app to whatever is in the installer and possibly resetting it settings.
Hey guys, just a quick question.
Does magisk work on latest stock rom?
If so, what are the advantages comparing with supersu?
I have my device rooted with superSU, I am on latest stock rom.
Thanks in advance!
I uninstalled superSu... but unable to make magisk install on device Magisk v17.1 .. am on DOt OS 7.1.2
Did clean flash and installed magisk... it worked.
Hallo forum
I just installed Magisk v.12 with the newest manger (MagiskManager-v4.3.3)
I have a wierd problem / bug?
Im trying to install "Sony framework" module
I can download and install , then magisk manager wants me to reboot and i do that, BUT after the reboot, theres no module installed under Module tab.
and when i search for the "Sony framework" its says not intalled - have also tested it with other modules -same problem
PLease help / advise
My device:
Teclast air x98 / Mirek190 rom
Thanks
This happens sometimes where the merging of the Magisk image doesn't quite work when installing from the Manager. Try installing from recovery instead.

Install the module in TWRP...
Same problem. Using a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 (GT-5220, it is a x86) using Lineage 14 7.1.2 with integrated Houdini.
Magisk and Hide is working well, Safety Net passes also.
When installing Sony Framework it is downloaded and installed and shows up in modules, but after the reboot it is not in modules anymore and in download section it has the not installed status. Flashing the ZIP using TWRP it causes a boot loop.
Did you find a solution meanwhile?
in my case, deactivating other Xposed module that i was using in the same time, resolved this issue ( it was module for spoof some phone/sim info) so try deactivate any other modules, and check again.
I am really trying to do it by myself; I already tripped my knox 5x.
I am using sm-t713 and flashed sdk24 arm64 in TWRP, however ones I do it I stock in TWRP and unable to boot to system. Flashing xposed doesnt give me any errors. What am I am doing wrong. I am on [ROM] [7.0] Nougat - Stock Lite v3. I installed xposed installer pre and post flashing xposed in TWRP - no success.
Please help

The best way to install Xposed is via Magisk.
Unroot your device completely by flashing the stock firmware or just the boot image then flash Magisk.
Open Magisk manager and install the Xposed module.
Nothing else required. All without affecting system or permanently breaking anything. It's as simple as removing the module to revert.

You don't need to decide. The latest version is dynamic and will install the correct version.
