hey..so..uhmmm...awesome work, but how can I change the image and have my own custom boot logo?
I tried changing the image using winrar, but it complained that it cant modify .bin files, so i created a zip file and moved bin files from it to there then changed the extension to .bin, but it didn't work when I flashed it. Can you give me tip on how to achieve this?

How to change Boot Image of XDA
Boot screen of XDA all models, will show Boot Image 5 - 10 seconds. We can change them as we want.
......
There are 2 Boot Image files, Splash1 and Splash2. That will be shown during booting. Normally these images, will be change during rum upgrading. They are come with Extended_ROM. But we can change them.
Step of Picture Preparation
1. ę¹”oot Image files, we can make them from any avaiable pictures. Change the image size to 240x320 and save them as bmp. Named as Splash1.bmp and Splash2.bmp (both picture can be same picture if you want).
2. Run program NB_Image_Converter in order to change file format from .bmp to .nb, so after this step you will get files Splash1.nb and Splash2.nb.
Step to change Boot Image
1. Copy Splash1.nb and Splash2.nb to \Windows
2. Copy file BootSplash_Changer.cab to change Boot Image to XDA
3. Tap at file BootSplash_Changer.cab to install new images.
4. Soft Reset, then you will get new boot images.
* file Splash1 and Splash2 will be deleted after install automatically, need not to delete them.

Black o2
This method can be used with XDA II ,IIs , Mini and IIi. Enjoy changing images.

You can't convert to QMG unless you buy the QMAGE software from quaramsoft.

We will have to wait for custom ROMs
samsung qmg files. convert to .qmg

this is what I found on the samsung website. looks like they have released a qmg tool to me. I will explore this more. as for my self, NONE, absolutely NONE of what I have tried and what others have suggested has worked for me to replace my samsung bootanimation. I am hopefull this tool will be the trick.
I read this tool creates qmg file but will not read them.

if someone can just find out where in phone it tells it to only look for qmg file for boot animation and over look any other file extentions then maybe the issue will no longer be a chore...
*******as of 10/21/2011 I give up on the bootanimation for samsung fascinate...spent too much time on this for nothing.

Hi,
I too have had no luck with finding info about editing .qmg files, as far as I can tell the only option is to swap them.
After much swapping with poor results because the files I found were for phones not tables..
I found that I could copy the second part of the bootanimation bootsamsungloop.qmg
and rename it to bootsamsung.qmg to replaced the first part of the bootanimation
so that instead of an ugly orange Telstra swirly logo and then the Samsung logo, it was just the Samsung logo.
Then I did the same for shutdown.qmg to get rid of the orange Telstra swirl on shutdown.
bootanimation part 1 = /sustem/media/bootsamsung.qmg <--telstra logo
bootanimation part 1 = /sustem/media/bootsamsungloop.qmg <--samsung logo
shutdown animation. = /sustem/media/video/shutdown/shutdown.qmg <--telstra logo
While I couldn't get rid of the Samsung logo at least I was able to get rid of the Telstra logo.
Also, you could try no boot or shutdown animation, just rename the above .qmg files to old.qmg
With no bootanimation its just a blank screen, and without a shutdown animation the desktop is displayed until the device turns off.
Hope that helps

QMG Bootanimation
I copied the default (.qmg) bootanimation from my phone to my pc. Can I use that (.qmg) bootanimation on a custom rom ?
can someone please go into system/media and grap the boot .qmg file and the boot .qmg loop file for me and post please?
bump anybody?
There are no such files.
The only thing in system\media is bootanimation.zip and a directory "audio" with a bunch of other crap in it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAtR-boZdpE
the picture or whatever it is shown in the first 30 seconds can someone rip that file for me please?
It's called "splash image", and contained on SPLASH1 partition. You can't rip it, whatever you do.
But you can google "nexus one splash image" and download one made for other phones by manually copying the screen.
ok thanks for your help
Hi guys
You may remeber the bootanimation from Motorola dualcore phones (Atrix 4G, Razr series). Some of you may love the simple waves that radiate from the red logo with white icon M. I love it so much. So, I decided to remake it for my white-bamboo X Style.
The original bootanimation has the black background. I changed it to white, replaced the red-white logo with black-white one, resized the image from 840x960 to 1440x2560. I made no change to radiate waves animation. "Vietnamese Motorola Community" was also added. If you know a bit about graphic software, you can extract the images and remove that text. Then using Winrar to make the zip file with compression mode set to Store. Name the zip file "bootanimation.zip" and replace one in /system/media (remember to backup the original one). Reboot and enjoy. Of course your phone had been rooted before. Tada. If fails, don't worry. Your phone will boot with a black screen instead of bootanimation. Using the original one and inform me the problem.
Thanks Motorola for the great bootanimation.

Just a few boot animations.
BACKUP YOUR SYSTEM PARTITION!
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ISSUES YOU MAY INCUR FROM MAKING CHANGES TO YOUR PHONE.
Install to /system/product/media after renaming your original boot animation and reboot.
Since the phone boots very fast timings have been adjusted to allow the animation to run through at least once.
Learn all about boot animation desc.txt format HERE.
I did not create these I only changed the desc.txt file so they would fit the device and play though at least once before stopping. The Cowboy Skull was converted from a gif.
Thanks.. I had a matrix for another phone just to lazy to try and get it to work on this phone.. I think it was green matrix instead of blue.. But this works... Just renamed other zips with the bak extension and gave this zip the right permissions.
