Is any way to get OTA updates so that the root is preserved? Even if there TWRP will be broken, the main thing is to keep the root access.

Can i not downgrade my phone to android 7 and just unlock the bootloader? or is it necessary to downgrade it? i have nokia 5 android 8.1 btw..

I downgraded my android to 7.1, then unlocked the bootloader. Problem is how to run that twrp, i renamed it to recovery.img and copied it to the ADB file, is this correct? or should i just type the command "flash recovery recovery.img"? and after downloading the oreo update zip in the last part, in what file should i put it in?
thanks in advance to anyone who will reply

@Always best can you please make a short video on this ,it would be nice

Rooting marshmallow b550

First of all i have to say im really glad i got this phone over samsung galaxy J5.
Secondly...for the people who does not know how to root Marshmallow latest version im gonna use some resources i found over the internet.
Step by step if you dont have marshmallow install all the firmwares till you you get B170. Remember you have to be on stock recovery all the time
Then download the B550 from [Official huawei P8 lite marshmallow firmware]
and update your firmware.
Now its time for root...
1. Download this archive <MOD EDIT - Warez Link Removed> and unrar
2. Connect your phone to PC(make sure USB Debugging is checked in developer options) run Install.bat file and follow the instructions. This will install TWRP Recovery for 6.0
3. Copy files zip 1 and zip 2 to internal memory or SD Card
4. Reboot into TWRP (volume+ and volume- and power on button at the same time until TWRP appears.
5. Install zip 1 and reboot.
6. Open once SuperSU then close SuperSU and uninstall it!!(push supersu icon and move to recycle bin)
7. Boot again into TWRP and install zip 2 and then reboot
8. Install root browser from google play ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details? id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree&hl=en )open and grant superuser rights.
9. Now open /device/data/app and locate folder eu.chainfire.supersu-1 cut and paste in folder /device/system/app with following rights rwx r-x r-x
Reboot your phone and ENJOY full root access

I would suggest you to update on B550 before you start the procedure. It will still show B524 build but its updated anyway on the last version B550.
Please make sure you have Chipset HiSilicon Kirin 620
and use the ROOT.Android.6.0.P8.Lite to install the TWRP.
For me it seems like a driver problem or not unlocked bootloader.
Try by unlocking your bootloader again
Unlock boot loader on your device.
Type in command without quotes "fastboot devices"
If you can see serial number of your phone you are going the right way.
In the command prompt, enter fastboot oem unlock (bootloader unlocking code) , e.g. fastboot oem unlock 321321321321321”
if that didnt work then make sure your drivers are installed correctly
Re-Start windows with Driver signature off and re-apply your drivers. To do this on windows you have to go All settings--> update and recovery---->Recovery----->Advanced startup---->>restart now and after booting your windows in the blue screen, choose Driver signature OFF option. Then reinstall your drivers and restart your phone on fastboot mode (power on and volume - at the same time ) and run the script again.

great news
im glad it works for you as well
The two variant , i mean ALE-L21 single or double sim have exactly the sames hardware.
The difference between the Two variant for single/double sim is only in the firmware you push in your devices.
(I have Two branded single variant and i use the firmware for single and double without any trouble.i only think the single sim firmware is more battery friendly but just a personal opinion)

So far im satisfied for its battery. Ok everyone knows that Facebook and messenger are battery killers...but even with those running, MP3 all day long... my battery lasts for a day on dual sim with the smart battery mode. In any case i will try to update the official B550 spanish version to check the differences (and modify a bit our kernel) .

Hmm... One little question. If i understand right. Balong bug should be shown on "Build Number". On me it shows that i have B550 as it should. But when i go to TWRP and backup. The backup pre-generated name says Balongxxxxx
Apparently that's normal its the build reference of the device nothing to worry about

VIE-C900B160 there is no update

Hello I have Huawei P9 Plus and Im still on Android 6.0.
Everyday i check fpr update and there is no signs for it..
My build number is VIE-C900B160
And my model is VIE-L09.. plese help me get Android 7.0!! Cheers
Hello same problem for me. Have you found a way to update?
C900 does not recive OTA, u need to debrand to C432.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9-plus/how-to/vdo-guide-how-to-debrand-huawei-phone-t3410046
Sent from my VIE-L29 using XDA Labs
Use firmware finder and upgrade to the last FULL version (not OTA). Mine is VIE-L09C900B181. It was possible installing the FULL C432 version (no root just upgrade).
Hello and thank you so much for your help.
- I tried to download a firmware manually and put files on dload folder but when i restart it says it's not a compatible update.
- Before i tried with firmware finder but, i don't know why, i hit download but nothing happens. stuck on 0%. (i configured the proxy in the right way etc...)
Now i'm gonna try to follow the video guide. Honestly i'd avoid to root the device but i have no choice.
Open Firware Finder, select Change Model and set VIE-L09C432.
Select Get Firmware List and then VIE-L09C432B180 Type: FULL Size: 1,616 GB
Download it, check it unpack and move to Dlod
No root needed !
Thanks for your help but it was too late.
Tonight i followed the -first part- of the videoguide (Mostar088's link). I mean i unlocked the phone, installed twrp, root the phone and at last i debranded the phone with srk tool.
After the reboot, i noticed there was an update! so after the update i had my super cool brand new Nougat! but it's not a big deal at all! -_-
some serious and odd things:
- i had NO KEYBOARD just google dictation. i had to fight trying to dictate my google account credentials. But i did it and i installed a keyboard.
- NO BLUETOOTH. i can't activate it. i try to toggle it on but nothing happens.
- XTREME BATTERY DRAIN.
- UPDATER option doesn't work. i tap on it but nothing happens.
Can you help me? I don't know what to do. i think i got the last ota update but it doesn't work.
Thank you!
I did it now it works!
Downgraded to Marshmallow and updated again.

Follow the first part of mostar88 linked guide.
You need to "debrand" to C432. Before debranding you have to root the device. So unlock the bootloader, install twrp, root the device and debrand.
After that just reboot and install the ota update (check for updates). In this way u gonna lose root mode and twrp recovery.
try to follow this steps

Can someone give me some more feedback about these steps? I open Firmware Finder, changed the model and looked up that exact version in the list, full size 1.6gb. I hit download and I let it download (took a few hours), then, the download finished.. but what do I do now? There's no message from Firmware Finder.. the step "check it unpack" .. where do I do this? And "move to Dlod"? What is dlod? A new app?
This is so confusing, lol.

You restored your backups with the P9 Lite unofficial TWRP and still got sound working ? Lucky you, I guess. Apparently the dev also had the issue.

[GUIDE][ROOT] how to root your P9 LITE MINI

I did not find a subforum dedicated to P9 lite mini version so I will post this guide here , as I know that many users that have this phone wish to have it rooted but don't know how.
I apologise to mods in advance if this is wrong place to post this.
Before I start, I will tell you that I am not a programmer and that I just followed a guide to the letter that @txmt5 told me about. So all credits go to him.
Lets start:
0. Make sure that your phone has USB DEBUGGING enabled.
1. a) You will need unlocked bootloader. There is simple official solution to get unlock code by huawei. Just go to their website , UNLOCK tab and follow instructions.
b) Once you get unlock code just use this simple tool by @Mandrigan. BE WARNED : use only unlock bootloader option as other options may brick your phone.
There is also an option to use cmd but I found this one easier to follow and it worked anyway.
Once you unlock your bootloader your phone will give you a warning about it before every boot. This is normal for every device just that some keep silent about it
2. Just install magisk app by @topjohnwu from here. As you do not have costum recovery (as far as I know it is still not developed for our device) you will not be able to root it as usual but it will require additional steps.
3. Get an original unpatched version for your frimware from here. It is really important that you find a right one. It will use the same code that is written in your "update info" in settings so it is easy to find.
4. From the update.zip file you hopefully downloaded in step before you will need to extract BOOT.img file.
To do this use huawei update extractor app by @worstenbrood. I personally use version 0.9.9.5 and extracted only BOOT.img .
It may look like it hangs on full green bar once you extract it. If it hangs for more than 5 minutes it is safe to cancel it and take the BOOT.img file it created. This happened to me and it worked anyways.
5. Put the BOOT.img file from previous step on your device and use magisk on it. It will create patched_boot.img that you will transfer back to your PC
6. Download adb fastboot tools (put patched_boot.img from previous step inside that folder) and HiSuite (just for huawei drivers)
7. Connect your phone to your PC and go to fastboot tools folder (from previous step) and shift+right click anywhere in that folder and take open CMD window here option.
The commands are as follows :
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
after it reboots input
Code:
adb fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img
Your device should be rooted now
You will have root permission but you will not be able to use any other fancy magisk repo app as you do not have TWRP or other custom recovery. And there is really high chance that you will have to repeat this whole thing after every update (it is just my guess) .
I really hope that this guide will help someone
P.S. I wish to thank all people that I tagged and let them know that it was not my wish to spam them but to give them proper credit.

I am really glad that you find my guide helpful.
When you go to magisk->install you will need to patch boot file.
Since wedo not have custom recovery you need to provide a path (impossible)
to BOOT.img file so magisk can patch it.
So you just put boot.img you downloaded to phome or sd card and provide path to it

I'm currently working on a TWRP port for this device. I have only a single problem with data partition.

I got it now. All you have to do is not type adb fastboot and just type fastboot flash...
Also another problem that I'm having with rooting another p9 lite mini is that I can't get the bootloader unlock code from huawei anymore. Any solutions? Huawei seems to not want to give you the code anymore.

I had to type adb as I was on CMD...you were on powershell?
I think they MUST give it to you as it is your phone after all

I was on cmd. Also i have e-mailed Huawei support to give it to me. Do you get the unlock code option on their site? I swear 4 days ago i got it and now it is gone... If you would like, you could add me on discord or such to tell you more details.

1. just keep the zip file in root of Internal storage
2. Give storage permission to Motorola update services by going to settings app -> apps -> show system apps -> Motorola update services
3. reboot the phone..
4. After this, just check for updates.. then your phone will start updating..
Didn't worked...
But i saw now that my phone is in amxbr channel! Thank you anyway!

I believe this zip is made to be installed with twrp, not the stock recovery, thats why it didn't work.

Ok, when you say root of internal storage, you mean keep it on internal storage or in a folder named root? Because it's on internal storage and I've tried it three times.

I found out it's all the same. So why isn't it working for me? Should I install twrp? Can it be installed without root?

Installing twrp doesn't mean you are rooted once the installation is done you won't have twrp unless you install it again!!

Hi, I know, I just didn't know that it was possible. Also, they say it's very complicated to install TWRP now because of the a/b slots thing, what tutorial did you follow?

Hi, I had already installed when I saw this, but thanks. Now I have a problem, I managed to do everything ok, I installed Android 10, installed my apps, I was even using them, so I decided to restart the phone and it gets stuck on the Phone Is Starting screen. I can access settings, but some things are locked.
I factory reset it, I've restarted twice now and it's opening, but I'm getting so many erros, like apps that won't download, there's not a single folder on internal memory. Is this fixable? Should I try reinstalling it or downgrade it? ?

I think it's a problem with storage or slots, because whrn I try to screenshot it says it can't save due to limited storage although I only have 34% used
I just got the update and was able to capture the zip file.
Please be aware that after the update my phone was in a boot loop, and I had to do a full wipe. I'm full stock with the bootloader still locked.
This is the .zip I captured: http://fastdl.hostzone.com.br/zip/ab_delta-Blur_Version.29.271.13-10.1.22.lake.retail.en.US.zip
Thank you
