Is there anyone with the Exynos version of the Note 9 that can comment on the battery life they are getting?
I really want to get the Note 9 but after the problems with S9/S9+ battery life I am reluctant at the moment.
I am loving it. I use the exynos version, I get about 8-9 hours screen time and 24 hours screen off time.

I'd like to see the apps you use and the battery graph. If you can screen shot them it will be great. Also I believe that 8 to 9 hours of screen on time isn't intensive apps.
Also it may not be the case after some usage
8-9 SOT would require a lowered down brightness to 40% I think.
4-5hrs of SOT during the day and 15% battery charge remaining at the end of the day.
I think I'll be that guy who will dream (as always btw) about 5+hrs of SOT

What was your previous phone and how does the note 9 compare under same usage? Does it feel warmer?

Note 4.
Whatever I did (disable everything, custom roms, greenify) - always 3hrs max with extremely rare exceptions.
Note 9 is not warmer at all.

Same here.
4+hrs: always on strong wifi (basically all day at home), web browsing, email, no games or heavy apps.
But this is not the way phones are used At least by xda crowd

4 Hours is major disappointment. Can't believe this is a 4k battery.
My Note 8 can get this easily. Perhaps the Exynos chip is faulty.

Its not faulty, its the way its scheduler and dvfs configurations are set up. Been covered extensively on the s9, remains to be seen if sammy has adjusted it on the Note 9.
See here:

That said the battery life on my exynos S9 plus has been fine, no complaints and I routinely see 5hrs + SOT.

are there any custom roms that fix the battery issue?
Battery backup on my Note 9 (exynos, 512/8) is fine. I am getting 6.5+ hours screen on time and about 1.5 days of standby time on moderate use with 4g LTE on all the time, chrome browsing, some youtube, music over bluetooth, whatsapp, gmail, paytm, voice calls, texts, camera use etc on all stock (default) Samsung firmware. A few apps like Facebook disabled. Auto brightness on, qhd+ screen resolution, location on, auto sync disabled and default white theme.

I could only manage 5 hours screen on time and 1 days standby on my note 8 on similar (4g data only) usage.
got mine yesterday, so far it's very nice.
Mine's 4.5 hrs sot. Mostly browsing and gaming, Auto brightness on.
Previous phone was axon 7 and i only get 2-3 hrs with that.

Just take a pinch of salt of that ridiculous 8/9 sot. Other users been reporting 4-5 hours. I have a 4+hours sot.
Max 4h of SoT with usage pattern of social media (no Facebook app installed), Spotify, browsing internet. Major disappointment for a 4000 mAh battery. My iPhone X was able to easily get at least 5h (even 6h sometimes)
I am going to repost this from another forum, can't be @$$'d to retype it lol....
Ok so I have tested the Exynos battery this weekend by doing my normal day to day usage, of course there will be more intensive days but this is my basic usage which would be a bit of Facebook, YouTube, mostly browsing the internet, around 30 mins of calls, texts etc but no intensive stuff.
Now for around one day I used the mid power saving that's because the first day I was using a mix of max power and optimized usage.
I would have let it run further but I need my phone for later.
So,
Here it is........

,
https://flic.kr/p/29zQt15https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/
Now I did do a test on my Note 8 battery in the early days last year also which can be found on this thread....https://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...ml#post6186172
But this was tested using the mid power setting all of the time.
Related
The battery on my Note is decent, giving me 2-3 days of moderate use or roughly a full day with heavy use.
Problem is when the battery decreases to around 40% & lower, the battery drains like anything even when not used.
Simply idling the phone would lose roughly 5-6% over an hour.
When the battery is around 20% it will easily run down to 10% and less over a period of a few hours when doing NOTHING.
Yet when then battery is at 80 & 90% it will lose around 5-6% battery over many hours.
Here is the proof, I took a screenshot of the battery information & you will clearly see rapid drops in battery life when at 50% and less.
On the last 20% it goes down even faster, and this is with NO use at all.
I hope this is fixed in ICS as it's a serious problem.

Pretty flat at the end there, even while being used.
I have seen that reported elsewhere, but not seen it on my own Note. I have just settled it into a new pattern after rooting and deleting the stats, so I am not certain right now, but I think it remains fairly even over the whole cycle.
I am not sure I could use is as little as you appear to have however!
I've yet to get my Note battery to last until 2 days, and not even a full 24 hours (almost heavy usage on data network).
So I guess that's good enough that yours lasted for almost 3 days!

Haha, don't get me wrong, I think the battery is great.
I'm only wondering why it goes so quickly when it's at 40% and under...
This seems odd. I'd say I'm having the same issue (the poor battery performance).
I've been trying to analyse this but don't have much time to do it right. From what I'm seeing the battery usage graph looks legit. Phone seems to enter deep sleep states. Nonetheless Note seems to drain the battery a lot faster in deep sleep than my Galaxy 3 does, which is odd considering Note having 3 times larger battery capacity.
What seems odd too is extremely slow suspend/resume cycles (e.g. the time it takes for the phone to turn the screen off/show lock screen). It takes more than a second on my Note to show the lock screen. I've seen other report this too. A friend of mine shocked a salesman on a Samsung booth lately when he showed him that. Galaxy S2 is thunderfast, while Galaxy Note takes ages to resume. My Galaxy 3 takes <0.5s. I've looked into the `dmesg` output for some hints. I'm no guru in this, but `ehci` seems to be taking some time to suspend/resume. This also converges with my other observation - Galaxy Note notoriously locks up when playing with usb host. I've tried couple of keyboard/mouse on usb - some of them do work, some of them don't (I can see 'Mouse/Keyboard' connected on the statusbar but there's no mouse pointer nor keyboard input is possible; after some time it's most likely to hard lock the system).
Thus I would suspect buggy usb host/otg hardware/driver that's leading to such a poor battery performance. But hey, maybe it's just me and my theories. Nevertheless something must be broken.
My battery is terrible.
With soe usage, mostly data, I'll drop from 100% to 60% in 3 to 4 hours.
Im on rocket rom.

I just made a suggestion, that's all. I'm trying to help you save battery. If you want all the bells and whistles and want battery then going for the extended battery is your route. I don't think you will get much more from the standard.
I have had troubles with battery life since I bought this beauty. I have been trying several Roms and Kernels, and none seem to make much difference. I also tried selecting among governors but still no better luck.
When I have 20-24hrs battery life it is very good!
The only thing that allowed me to save some was to reduce lcd intensity, and use the Note in dark environments.
Maybe I am using it more than the average user, but with all the opportunities it provides, I can hardly refrain myself from using it.
My typical use is:
- Radio and surf when going to work and home,
- Email and surf every hour at work
- About 10-20mn phone calls
- Listening to music when I can be alone working (1-2 hrs each day)
- Tablet use when at home.
Do you consider this to be a very heavy usage of the phone ?
I have just had my Note for a few days. The biggest battery eater in my case is WiFi. If I switch it off, the discharge is quite acceptable (a couple of percent during the night). I am not deep into Android internals, but it seems my 5-year-old Palm TX had much better WiFi power management than my brand new Note!
BTW, I am on a stock ROM and have disabled auto-sync.
Have you tried wiping battery stats? Let the phone completely die then charge it without interruption until it's been on 100% for an hour then boot to CWM and wipe battery stats

I can complain. I paid $750 for it.
The bells and whistles are there but the battery can't cope. Major flaw in battery implementation.
I already told the other guy i appreciate his help but that defeats the purpose of such an advanced and sophisticated mobile phone.
I had a SE symbian for 3 years then several HTC WM 6 mobiles, then a year of HTC Desire then an iPhone 4 for 1.5 years. I'll head towards the best regardless of brand.
Quit being a fanboy.

I am not complaining about the battery drainage per-se.
My previous phone was a Nokia N900, which I used all day long for calls, mails, radio listening, ssh to my home computer, etc... and I knew well that I could not use it for more than a day without charging, sometimes even less.
The phone battery was never advertized as being able to cope with such usage, and only announced battery times for 2G/3G calls.
When I first read announcements about the N7000, I read that Samsung decided to increase the battery power to make it last 2 days, which looked nice to me.
Now I have hardly 13 hours of battery time with my usage (see my previous post) and I want to know:
- is it a normal behaviour for the phone?
- is there a way to make things better with the same hardware?
- do I really need to lower my expectations?
If the answer to the last question is yes, I will be of course disappointed but I can cope with it, as I did with my previous phones. As CorruptedSanity already mentioned, my only complains are to the Samsung techs (or advertizers) and not to any member of this forum who are usually able to help beyond my needs.
I hope that screen optimizations will come that will increase the battery life while I use the phone, but my expectations are low.
You can expect around 5 hrs of screen time based on peoples reports here

Yup, that's the killer IMO. I can leave WiFi enabled all day, or use the phone for a couple of hours of calls and a few hours of 'screen time'. Not both!
Before rooting and killing bloatware, I could do neither.
It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the LG Nexus 5X before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

I usually get 3.5 hours(4 if I'm REALLY lucky) over maybe 12-14 hours off the charger.
Excellent!
About 3 to 3.5 hours of screen on time under normal use.
less if I'm using it less and phone spent more time on standby / idling.

You replied directly to me which would indicate that you're trying to let me know about that, as opposed to a general reply which would be directed at the thread. I'm well aware of the implications of screen time and its inaccuracy as a "be all end all" measurement for battery life.
I provided much more information than just SoT though. I indicated over 1-2 days and also provided detailed screenshots of one of my results. That's about as much battery information that I could possibly provide so I'm not sure what more you were hoping to find. Maybe some official stats from professionally tested battery reviews could be helpful as well. Please do let me know what else we can add here to provide a clearer picture of 5x battery life.

Honestly, you are on wrong thread... this is all about SOT, not battery life or how to mesuare battery life. talk about SOT are simply like
result 1:
while i just usage on my phone, just normal FB, social chat, hang out gps's apps without gaming(50% of my usage are under wifi zone), i manage to get 3.5H(3H 30M) sot in 1 cycle charge.
result 2:
i do play games like CoC and alpha 8(or some sort of heavy games?) and i just manage to get 2.5H SOT, data only(no use of wifi, note that under wifi condition will have lower battery drain in standby).
talking about SOT are just mainly giving idea to reader how this phone last in 1 cycle battery charge. because everyone are using their phone different way, but SOT can giving such similar result over user.
its not about battery life(there is another thread for battery life). But thanks for the info too...
I typically get about 3 hours of SoT. That doesn't include any video which allows you to rack up a ton of screen on time. I try to charge my phone when I go to bed at night but if I don't I can usually get through almost a second day with it. I am still super annoyed they didn't include wireless charging or an easy way to add it in this phone.

Hey all. I just got my s6 active via insurance upgrade about 5 days ago.. I expected more battery from what I read... I unplugged it this morning at 525 and by 625 I was at 92%. Is this normal? The battery screen doesn't add up to the battery % lost. I'm just trying to figure out how everyone is getting this great battery. Is it possible they sent me a referbed with a used battery? Many days/weeks of running the phone will it take in order for the battery to even out?

Seems like your phone doesn't go into deep sleep. There is a rogue app that is probably causing your phone not going into deep sleep. Find the app cure the problem.
Yes it does take many cycles for the battery to reach optimal battery life
Nothing keeping it alive.... Cpu sleep time is the majority of the time. I do use my phone heavily. But i get about the same life as I did with my s5 active..
Same here. I "upgraded" from a 6S on the premise of much better battery life and waterproof without the need of a LifeProof case.
So far I'm getting about the same, maybe less life out of it than my iPhone. I've been out of the Android game for almost 2 years, what can I do to fix this?
Based on battery tests and whatnot, I should be losing around 6-7% per hour, instead of the 10-12% I'm losing now, about on par with an iPhone with half the battery size.
Any help is appreciated.
EDIT: Noob mistake, forgot to mention I'm on the forced 5.1.1 version.

The 5.1.1 version was a battery hog for me too. Before it, i would make it til bedtime with about 30-40% battery of moderate usage. During the 5.1.1 upgrade i was at 40-50% before lunch! Had to charge twice daily. Now with Marshmallow, i'm back up to all day battery. Even lately being a heavy user, it'll generally last all day. I might be at 5% by bedtime, but it'll last all day.

How much SOT do you get?
I lose about 6% per hour if I watch videos on wifi, however I lose 1% every 6-7 minutes if I'm using my phone for anything else.
What system process is killing the battery? There's no reason I shouldn't get over 12 hours of SOT from daily usage.

That's what I'm talking about. I used to freeze basically all non vanilla processes back in the G2 days with Titanium Backup, how can I freeze the Exchange server? It doesn't show up under "Applications" in settings.
Currently on 6.0.1.

I don't know how to say this without sounding condescending, i don't mean to, but you're insane if you think you should get anywhere near 12 hours SOT. Let alone "no reason I shouldn't get over 12 hours of SOT". I doubt I could get 12 hours SOT with 2 batteries.
I average 5-6 hours SOT which i think is actually pretty awesome, (And that's with the dark theme). I honestly don't count battery percentages and compare videos to surfing/browsing. I just know that i can use my phone all day and I don't have to charge it until bedtime.

Their web browsing test is a more realistic expectation, which is why I said 12. They got 16 hours, which I don't doubt, but this phone draining comparably to a 4+ year old HTC? Not at all impressed.
I have screenshots where I tested their results vs actual daily usage and they were very close for every phone.
But no worries, I'm glad you're satisfied with your phone's performance.

http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...-how-much-screen-time-you-getting-charge.html
A few new phones have come out with massive batteries, but still not 12 hours SOT. One guy with a 10Ah zerolemon on his note 4 was able to get 16 hours (unverified), but that's the best i've ever heard.
http://blog.gsmarena.com/samsung-galaxy-s6-active-battery-life-test/
The One X, S3, LG G2, and iPhone 6 & 6S web browsing results were great representations of what I could expect as far as smartphone battery goes. I've had more phones than I can count, but those were the ones I kept the longest and remember the results off the top of my head.
I can find my old One X SOT screenshots to further prove my point.

This makes no sense to me. In their test, the battery lasted longer playing videos, than web surfing? Something is off here. I've never seen a phone have more than 6 hours SOT, ever (with the exception of extended batteries). Maybe if the phone was in extreme battery saver mode and the screen was at the lowest setting possible, and it was only on 3g, it might be possible to get 6 hours. I'm not calling you a liar, or the article you posted a lie, i just have to believe something else is going on. If i was to get 12+ hours of SOT, for me, that would be equivlent to the phone lasting me all work week.
I hope you get your battery life figured out, but i have to believe we're on different pages here about something. There was an update pushed out this morning, maybe it will help a little.
Not getting this "awesome" battery life??
Yes, this is due to less CPU usage and videos/movies are not almost entirely white.
I looped a couple of YouTube movies and left the S6 Active running all night at 50% brightness with only wifi on. I woke up, 8 or so hours of SOT, and the battery has 59% left. This leads me to believe it's a system app, more than likely a Samsung one, since all of my other Android phones don't have this issue.
I'll post up actual pictures when I get home, I'm back on my iPhone.
You haven't been here long, which is fine, but trust me when I say that there's something draining the battery. A G2 with a 3000mAh battery lasted over 9 hours consistently with data on, the S6A should have no problem matching that.

Hello I have recently purchased an used S6 active gsm unlockrd with android 5.1. This is my first day with it I still don't know about the battery stats anyway I would like to know if I will get improvement in marshmallow. What are the advantages. Also since at the s6 and s6 edge the marshmallow update improved the camera speed. I would like to know if it will improve also the camera speed. Thanks

Hmmm, maybe i'm just considering real world use instead of ideal conditions. Kinda like how i'm supposed to get 35 mpg in my car, but actually only get about 26-27.
When i was on 5.1.1 and had insane battery drainage, all of my research and testing said it was kernel related. I just stuck it out and waited for marshmallow, and now my battery is back to acceptable to me.
Keep us updated if you figure it out, even though i'm relatively happy with my battery life, i'm always happy to get more.
P.S. I've actually been here longer than you, so i'm not sure if that was directed at me. You are way more active and most likely way more software savvy than i am, but i've been here a long time.

I meant brightness, too many ideas at once haha. I'm posting actual pictures in a second, and will keep the phone running while I'm at work.
It has to do with a Samsung "feature", I've turned off most of them from settings. Next will be disabling packages.
It sucks that we don't have root, it seems like an AOSP Rom would net us the battery life that we should get.

Read some reviews and saw video on youtube, the Mate 10 battery life sucks big time, it loses to S8 and Note 8 which is quite embarrassing, barely better than iphone.
I wonder if the update resolved the issue.

Yep but it still weird to see the Mate loses like that, i hope Huawei will address it, or they already have.
Soon we will have the official reviews, then we can judge.

It did well on gsmarena battery test:
https://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_mate_10-review-1675p3.php
For me phones that have 80h+ on gsmarena battery test are 5-6hours sot phones with the heaviest of usage and with moderate usage they can last couple of days so battery wise everything seems good.
Here’s new review that also mentions sot and shows battery usage. I am sold thats its ok in terms of battery. Dude has 6hours of sot on heavy usage.

Well so far I'm getting over an hour SOT every 10% of batter, this is what I hoped. Pic and so on will come. And yes those tube videos really did scare me too
Anyone found a video of the 10 vs 10 pro for battery life? Really want to see how mine is against the pro

I guess it's good, the Mate 9 really set up very high standards , i see the Mate 10 is not an improvement in battery life, at least not directly as it has higher display panel but more efficient CPU.

Greatest battery life ever
One hour and 30 minutes sot before it got to 90% then slowly to this lever. This is almost all 4g, bluetooth on all the time andI toggle gps as I need it, which wasn't much at all today. No games today either which I hardly play. On mate 9 I'd have 20% work plus 7 hours sot. Withth this I got over 40%
I have the cat 18 high speed setting on too, maybe I'll get more battery disabling this setting. Sitting at 40% left after 7hrs 35 mins sot, Not bad
Really want to see how the mate 10 stacks against mate 10 pro battery life wise

This is the second day of using the phone. I would say I am a heavy user. My result is below. It's good but I was expecting more as Huawei says the 970 is more efficient than the 960.
After 20 hours since full charge this is very good battery life! On course to get over 11 hours sot over such a long period of time.
Hour sot, only used 5% battery
loving the battery
Can you guys put above the screenshot which version of Mate are you using? Thanks

Coming from a Mate 9. You have to give it time to adjust to you to get optimal results. Anyone posting the first week battery results, it's nearly the same as an ordinary phone. Still a good base to go on. The ai still needs time for pattern adjustment to unlock it's true potential.
Hi guys. I just bought my phone today installed all the apps and then fully charged it. However I am getting poor battery life. What is causing my battery to be crap? I don't see what the issue can be as it is a brand new phone. Coming from the sony xz premium i feel as if its a downgrade on the battery end of things. Does anyone have a suggestion
I thought my battery was terrible at first when I got it. I noticed lately I have not noticed so much anymore. Right now phone been on for 2 hours straight and lost 25% with brightness half way. Just give it time

It scares me that battery life is not going to be any good and I have to hunt for the charger through out the day. With my xz premium with about 4 hours usage i normally had 40 to 50% remaining. I don't want to think about charging my phone just to get through a day. Lets just wait and see if it gets any better

Android needs some time to adapt to your apps.
I bought my Note8 three days ago and don´t used it permanently respectively don´t have so many apps installed.
I charged it 2 days ago (at 18 o´clock it was fully charged!), now I have 48%
Before I bought my Note 8 I had a Mate 10 Pro with 4000 mAh and 60-70 apps. Android needed 3-4 days to adapt. In the first days I had to charge every day. After a week the Mate 10 Pro had to be charged only once in 2 days.
So do not worry!
Watching this with interest. Mine is a week old and I feel like I need to keep topping it up. On the road all day today and worried she won't make it!
I've a charger in the bag. But going to see how far I get!

Thats what i was saying while i have the chance i might return it and get the Pixel XL 2 or the mate 10 pro. I believe both have better battery life. The pixel loses out on screen quality but makes up with software and battery life. The mate 10 pro loses on software but kills it on battery life. So tough choice to make. However i can't stand poor battery life especially never having to worry about battery life on the sony xz premium
Had mine since day one and the battery gets better the longer you use it. I have several things disabled that are big battery suckers - Bixby for one, don't want or need it. I can go 1-2 to days of moderate use, using an ereader app but no game playing.

The better question is, what apps did you install? You need to just use your phone for a few days. It will begin to background/sleep apps you aren't using which will extend your battery life.

Like myself and others have said, just use the device. You're comparing a device you used for a period of time to a device you just got just over 24 hours ago.
Those apps are considered battery hogs because they don't sleep. Also, Xperia devices have a sleep function implemented. They were the first ones to ever have such a robust background sleep function of Android devices.
The sleep function should be on automatically during setup but it could be turned off. Look under battery settings and it'll be there with the option to turn it off. I recommend keeping it on.

I've disabled knox, security folder, bixby, ant radio all the t-mobile apps, several of the edge screens and a few others.
As others have pointed out, the device needs some days and several charging cycles to achieve a good performance, besides, and very important, in settings>device maintaince>battery, there are 2 groups of apps that you can choose, always sleeping apps and unmonitored apps, there you can control their behaviour

Yeah some of the Samsung apps and services being disabled will actually cause more drainage to occur.
