Anyone installed Custom Navigation bar? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Has anyone managed to successfully install Custom Navigation bar?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xyz.paphonb.systemuituner
Right after I sent the ADB command, my systemUI consistently crashed. I had to do a factory reset and wasted quite a bit of time.
Wondering if anyone got this to work...
Thanks!

Similar to me, waiting for update.

Setting the navbar color via ADB was easy and works great. That said I didn't do anything else with it.

It is not only about the color. That app is also allowing to add 2 extra buttons to the nav bar with any key code. It is extremely useful, it works great in Note8, but it fails in Note9. Can't wait for an update.

It seems that even though the app got an update for Android 9, in the mean time, Note9 was set as incompatible device (which should prevent others getting into trouble).
Hopefully a fix is on the way, as it was very useful.

Perhaps not that much customized, but I'm using wings substratum to darken my navbar icons and swift for amoled black navbar.

I was using it to add 2 extra buttons on the sides:
- menu button - very usefull in old applications
- sfinder in the other one
But you could map those 2 buttons to whatever keycode you wanted... which is extremely useful!!

I'm using substratum with no problems, yeah it can't add extra buttons but 3 is all I need.

NAVBAR Apps has only been installed a few minutes on my Note 9, but dynamic navbar seems to be working well.

I haven't seen that, but I haven't chosen a color. I have it set to let the app in use dictate the color. I have seen only one app that I dislike the color choice, so far.

I too dont like default nav bar button looks. However I use more safer way to get customization. There are quite a few samsung themes (paid most ones few free ones) provide nav bar custom look buttons such as below. Ofcourse they wont provide new buttons but merely change the look.
Invaser Soft theme I use on note 9 gives the attached look.

so, is there any update on this for the Note 9?? I'd really like to add a power button to the bottom rgiht.....

Permanently hide Navigation Bar on Nexus 7

I wanted the greatest amount of usable screen "real estate" on my Nexus 7 so I looked for ways to hide the black Navigation Bar that spans the bottom of the display. My launcher of choice, GO Launcher EX, has an option to hide it but that didn't work. There are apps that supposedly hide it but either they only hide it until you return to your home screen or they hide it but leave thick unusable black gaps at the bottom and the top of the display. I use Button Savior for my navigation so I just wanted the Navigation Bar GONE.
I read that, on other devices, adding the line "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" to the build.prop file under /system would do it but I added the line and it did nothing. Then -- since I was just beginning to customize a newly rooted Nexus 7 (32GB, in case that matters) I scrubbed EVERYTHING and took it back to stock, then rooted it with WugFresh's Nexus Root Toolkit (Version 1.5.5). Next I entered my sign-in data and installed Root Explorer from Google Play (so I could edit system files). Then -- before I did anything else to the tablet, I again added "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1" to the end of build.prop in /system. It worked! The Navigation Bar disappeared and has not reappeared no matter what I've done (reboot, add apps, customize, etc). Better yet, my wallpaper image instantly resized to fill the screen space I'd recaptured. My rows of icons adjust to fill and use the space and no black bars are left anywhere on screen.
It seems unlikely that I'm the first to discover that this works with the Nexus 7 since I'm not a very sophisticated user but in case this adds value to the XDA forum, which I use and very much appreciate, here it is.
Good find. First I heard of this.

Same question.
I use Button Savior. There are other "soft key" solutions as well. I have Button Savior set to never "auto hide" so it's always available (it can always be manually popped in and out). I've got it placed just above the keyboard so it's never in my way when typing. I have it set to semi-transparent so I can always see it but also always see through it. The beauty of soft key solutions is that they take up NO screen real estate and, at least in the case of Button Savior, you can place them exactly where you want them so that you never have to move your hand to navigate your screen. Button Savior needs to be on a rooted device to work properly but you have to be rooted to do this procedure anyway.

Nexus 7 screen with no Nav Bar with Button Savior
I'm sure there's better ways to illustrate this but here's a blank home page with a bland wallpaper to illustrate what the space on my screen looks like. No Navigation Bar. No Dock either (I use a few icons and a few folders of icons). I like the Status Bar across the top although I could eliminate that too. That's Button Savior on the left-hand side (I'm left-handed). Soft key solutions were popularized in the CM7/Nook Color days since the Nook only had one hard button, a home key.
+1 on GMD Gesture Control. Not cheap ($5), but worth every penny.
This is a pretty interesting idea. I might do this with my N7 or Gnexus also
Let us know if it causes any problems with installing Gameloft, EA, or any other games
might give gmd gesture a try. running pa in tablet ui. cant imagine how nicely it will run in full screen
Gmd is a great proggy. I use it to hide the navigation buttons amongst a ton of other things.

GMD Gesture looks awkward (I watched some YouTube videos of it in use) but I'm sure it'd become second nature in time. Can you hide the Navigation Bar but still show the Status Bar?
Yep, just tried this neat little mod. Hides the nav bar but not the status bar. Running stock rom/kernel rooted/unlocked. Edited the build.prop rebooted, worked. Re-edited, rebooted went back to normal.
Excellent find!

I'd use lmt launcher if you're interested in hiding the navigation bar. It worked well when I was hiding the navigation bar on my gnex.

Then you need to reboot device and if you mess up build.prop permissions you will get boot loop. This app will allow to hide/restore navigation bar on the fly and risk free

The app works great and I like it!! Only some minor issues:
-When you change to full screen the wallpaper sometimes change to the original (known issue).
-When reboot sometimes the notification bar disappear for a minute or less.
-When you hide soft keys or show soft keys the percent battery on the status bar disappear.
Thank you

These are a bit tricky to fix, but I'm researching it. I hope to improve Quick NavBar enough that you won't need turn on/off stock soft keys often. I added Google Now button in latest dev version release.

New features

Just got the note 8 yesterday and been messing around with it. I'm coming from the Note4 with Note7 software. I think I have a pretty decent setup. I'm taking advantage of the always on screen. I use it like a lock screen. So I disabled the lock screen. I long-press the home screen to unlock the phone its pretty awesome. Or double tap the notifications to go directly to them, without swiping again.
I wanted to create this discussion so ppl can share their shortcuts and little efficiencies so everybody can enjoy them.

I like it a lot but in my opinion the curve screen does not improve anything and is unnecessary, it just looks good. Typing on it takes getting used to. The q & p keys are on the edge and it's a little weird to press them and long press them.
The phone was super hard to handle with one hand without the Samsung military grade rugged case. It's a long phone. With the case it's thicker and more manageable. Having the case on it also makes it harder to touch the edge of the screen by accident when using one hand.
Really not a fan of the curve screen as you can see lol. But other than that the phone is perfect.
I wish they had an option to disable the edges or something.
You planning on getting it?

Click on recent button, long press the app of choice, and drag it in the pop-up window square to make the app a pop up window quickly. Or you can enable the multi-window setting to diagonal swipe from the top right of the screen to make the app a pop up window.
In the sound settings you can choose apps to default to a specific output channel. I find this useful for using Google maps while playing music. I have maps defaulting to phones speakers. I think it is working lol but it still lowers the music volume when maps is talking. It doesn't seem to blast the annoying gps voice over my music that I was playing loud.[emoji108]

That's a feature that was available via the much more feature-rich Action Memo that was included with S Note on pre-N7 models. So while it's a new feature from the perspective that it's a new app, it's a crappy app in comparison.

While in the app drawer, and I scrolled up to the top of the list, I then swipe within the drawer downward (but not from the top) and a popup comes up showing me a list of apps that were are frequently used, recently used and those that were new/updated. Pretty cool.
I had a note 7 last year and I am coming from a s7 edge so I'm sure I have some new things to learn as well
Hey I have a question for the Note 8 owners here. I read earlier last week that you could touch and swipe left/right the home button when its hidden to go back / activate recent, and then regular force touch to go home. Is this a legit gesture, or is there an app that can enable such a thing?
I would absolutely love if I could ditch the nav bar entirely and get DAT space.

Also!!
"Nav bar Apps" in the play store let's you apply a static color to your nav bar in every app! There is a flash of white when it launches an app where it is supposed to be white but I dont mind that. It looks like the app can do other things but I just wanted to make it black at all times! Exactly what I wanted.
If you go into the settings you can change the color change animation to fade. That is the smoothest animation with barely any white flash.

Move clock/time to right side?.

Any way to move the clock/time to right side? Insert rant about android 9.
The usual samsung methods don't work. The SystemUI tuner app does not work either. TouchWiz is missing from the Beta+Rooted+adb permissions given version of the app. The custom entry keys (middle/right_clock_position) do nothing both on or off.
Also for the phone dialer, is there any way to change to one click to accept instead of the slide method?
ROG/ZenUI is really lacking in customization.

Don't think there is currently a way to move the clock. It bothered me too when I first got the phone, but now after a little over a week of use it's perfectly fine, I'm use to it. Not sure about the dialer tap to answer instead of slide, as I prefer slide to answer because it's less likely you'll accidentally answer an unwanted call.

Thanks, though now there's no way to show the 120HZ but not the auto-rotate indicator. Depending on if you have free or pro, it'll either show both or neither.
I guess nothing can work properly. It's about to be expected since it was never updated for android 9.
Thanks though.
EDIT: it's even more of a buggy mess, the temporary notifications don't disappear ever (message received, downloading item, etc .
Hrmm? Yes they do.
I've attached screenshots
It does not for me. The icons are stuck there after the notification ends. Are you using EdXposed and Flat status bar indicators v5.1.3?
I also have system tuner UI installed which may interfere with it.
EDIT: It turns out SandHook is more stable than YAHFA in this case.

i have Nova installed. i was unable to find an option for that. i did find a somewhat of a work around and that was by installing Good Lock app from galaxy apps and then adding on a One Hand Operation+ extension to it. i can swipe from the edge side and have nav buttons pop up that i can sticky. its not the best solution, but it works. kinda disappointed that for a $900 phone you can't customize it.. AND they removed led notification lights.. wtf
