Did anyone else notice the Samsung messages widget is missing from Galaxy Note 9? I use the built in messages app (not google's messages app, samsungs), and I used to have the widget on my home screen on my Note 8 that showed the messages window. Now I don't see a widget for it?
I don't have the phone with me so I can't check right now. I did notice you can't change the text background anymore and that kind of pisses me off. I don't like goSMS or Textra. I don't want a 3rd party app. It sucks they stick you with no options to change background or chat bubble colors.
Its just not there. They also removed a feature I used quite often on my S8: Bixby dictation by pressing and holding button while keyboard is open. It was super convenient.
I noticed it too... If you find anything, please let me know! I'll do the same!

It is unfortunate, I guess it may be time to switch over to Googles "messages" app instead now because it does have the widget!

I think that is still there somewhere. When I was setting up Bixby I turned it off. It asked if I wanted to allow it to control the keyboard or something in Messages.
Yep no messages backgrounds.

Go to Textra. It's better than either of the ones mentioned.
Edit: Actually, I'm not sure if Textra has a widget (I don't use widgets for texting). It's just an amazing texting app.

It don't matter that much I use WhatsApp or telegram primarily. Looks like an indicator that perhaps Samsung is winding down it's messaging division?

Oooo... That is nice. Might need to try that, haha.
Dictation is there. In the upper left of the keyboard there's a revolving menu button. Has a smiling face on it. It should be there. If it is not there press the triangle on right side and move it.
As for the messages widget missing. Looks like Samaung removed it.

Hi all I was wondering if anyone has found a way or an app/tweak so that notifications don't turn the screen on on the device when receiving notifications such as text messages? I find this highly annoying coming from android devices like the Nexus One and Motorola Milestone. I have found nowhere for this option. I use Handcent as my default sms app and i have the Bell i9000 if that helps. Thanks!

Thats weird... me its on sms and its highly annoying because I have unlock. Even with the options in Handcent to not turn on the screen it turns on. Tried the default sms app and same thing. Maybe is ADW Launcher? I'll try with the Samsung launcher to see...
ok so it does same thing with Samsung launcher as well. This is annoying! Does everyone else's screen turn on when they receive SMS? I tried noLED as well but screen turns on before it goes to the noLED screen.
Yes, but that's a good thing for me - otherwise I wouldn't know I had a notification if the phone is on my desk?

Yeah that's definitely true. I guess I will stop using the application called Unlock. This app was cool because it gets rid of the lock screen but its annoying to have your screen turn on while its in your pocket and there is no lock. I guess it's something I will have to live with.
how do i stop my calculator talking to me?

Problem with that is you can't use it in pop up. Which I need for work. Main reason I buy devices with multi task/window. Hopefully someone will figure it out.

I've been able to somewhat narrow it down on my phone. I have accessibility turned on for both Pebble & Lastpass. If I turn both of those off my calculator will stop talking. Turn them back on & it's back at it

Turned off accessibility to augmented pro and calc stopped talking.
Don't have people or last pass and its still talking. Also other people reporting this issue are having problems with the s voice voice feedback greyed out in s voice settings. Turned out it was greenify for me. Uninstalled and calculator stopped talking and svoice started to. Hope this helps someone.
I had the same problem and have fixed it. I just went into applications
manager and force stopped Samsung text-to-speech engine. The calculator is no longer talking back to me. :good:
Yeah I have that problem too. I have tried everything mentioned here and it still keeps talking. It is not usable this way.
Update. Found out the problem. I am using the LG Bluetooth headphones and the BT reader app. I had to go in to accessibility and under services turn off the BT reader.
I've used the S5 and figured out how to disable the magazine app, well, the S6 has a similar feature that uses Flipboard. I haven't been able to figure out how to disable.
Also, I have NO IDEA how to create a folder in the App Drawer.

Dunno about about the folders but you can hide (but maybe not disable) the Flipboard screen by unchecking its box in the "rearrange home screens" mode.

While the wrap around effect is long gone in TouchWiz, it is still implemented on most third party launchers. And call me crazy, but someone with so much experience should know how to simply add new pages and reassign the home page.

I wasn't asking how to rearrange home screens. The feature is alive and well in the 4. Don't see any benefit to removing it, but you're not really here for help or a discussion. Just to be argumentative and condescending.

Anyone else using Textra on the Note8 not seeing a way to attach files to text messages? I'm a beta tester, so I left some feedback for the Textra devs, but I wanted to check here to see if anyone experienced this and found a resolution:
Next to the text input box, theres a +. Tapping that icon should pull up recent pictures and a bar across the bottom allowing me to select gif, pictures, etc. I used this app on my Note5, and my husband uses it on his Galaxy S6. On the Note8, however, tapping the + only bring up an emoji selection box. I've checked all permissions and did the standard clear cache/reinstall stuff to troubleshoot. Before anyone brings it up, I can go to a picture in my gallery and share that way, just looking for a solution to attaching while still in the Textra app.
i get this when i hit the + on the non beta
Thanks, bub. For some reason my nav bar appears to be covering that bar.

I was trying to get some screenshots of the issue and how the bar shows only in landscape mode. Apparently Bixby commands force portrait mode and get hidden by the emoji list. Likewise, I tried with the SPen but the air command menu also gets covered and I'm unable to interact with it.

Same here I just tried googling some help and found your post. Textra doesn't play nice with N8
Not everyone is having the issue.
Maybe specific to beta testers on beta firmware or/and carrier specific nonsense.
T-Mobile user here and textra is working fine in seeing the tool bar and sending in/receiving gifs and such.and im not the only one that is having success, so its not totally fair to say this app is failing everyone.
There is a workaround from Textra.
Settings > Display > Navigation Bar > click the text under Show and Hide Button > turn off Textra
They are working on a fix.

Google Messages v--4.1.067 (Ettin_RC12_xxhdpi.arm64-v8a.phone) on Galaxy S10
When I open a chat with a person and tap on the "write a message" text box, instead of the text box coming up simply, the text box comes up AND it gives me the option tray of copy, paste, web search, etc. This is the thing you usually get if you double tap or press and hold. I'm getting it with a single tap and it's kinda annoying. Can anyone reproduce this? Any idea for a fix?
I have the same issue, pops up on both the stock messaging app AND google messages.
This is an issue with the March Security update or at least I hope it's an issue and not something new. I've made a post about it in the S10+ forum but haven't seen many responses to it. For me it happened every time I touched in a text field to bring up the keyboard. I know 2 other people that have the same issue after updating as well. I've rolled back to the February patch for now as it was pretty annoying for me.

Thank goodness, I thought I was the only one experiencing this. It is quite annoying.
So I've been digging into this a little and it appears to be a bug with Samsung's Clipboard History service. I can't figure out how to disable it. I tried disabling a few things using ADB with no luck. If you go into your clipboard history and "Delete All" it will no longer be an issue. I don't know if anyone knows how, but if there's a non-root method to remove Samsung's clipboard service it'll 'fix' the issue for now.

Yeah, I discovered this shortly after my post. I wasn't using the autofill service at first. But if you get rid of your password autofill service it'll go away lol. No I don't use Gboard. I just realized my phone sort of does this but I never knew it. The first thing I do when I get a phone is remove the Samsung dialer, messages, etc, and install Google Dialer and messenges. Up till I played around with it upon reading your post I never touched the message area before starting to type, I've never had to. For the heck of it this morning, I touched that area and the paste clipboard pop-up appeared. Like I said, I never see that because I just start typing and never saw it that way.
This has been from the first time I used the phone on the original software.
