I know people are going to hate, this but just wondering is it possible to make a iPhone Rom
Go buy a f***ing iPhone.
Ouch.
That's an interesting question, though. Mac O.S. is basically its own flavour of Unix. Because of this, it makes sense that Iphone O.S. is some derivative of Unix. Since Android is based on the Linux kernel and uses a sort of Linuxy userspace, it might be possible to reverse engineer Iphone O.S., or somehow get the source code (good luck doing this!), patch it and compile it for an A.R.M. prcessor and make a Nexus One boot into it.
I doubt that anyone will really bother, though; there is so much work involved, and you can already buy a Iphone.
It was a question to know if its capable I had a 3gs but I love me nexus and you don't have to be ****
Thank you keet that does sound like a lot but would be pretty cool

Why would it be cool?
A couple reasons if you could use the iPhone app store that would be cool because let's face it the iPhone games and some apps are better and you can switch between the 2 best systems and I know if you have a Android phone you don't really like the iPhone a jailbroken iPhone is still a good phone but it needs to be jailbroken
*~* P-u-n-c-t-u-a-t-i-o-n *~*
My brain hurts now...
P.S. I very highly doubt you'd have access to the iPhone's app store, just because you've got a ROM. If this were possible, don't you think someone would have found a way to simple bring that over already!?!?
I just wondering if it was possible thats all
Sure, anything is possible. It essentially comes down to getting the OS to work with the hardware.
but would anyone do it? No
How about a windows 3.11 ROM while we're at it?
Really??????
I only want DOS on my phone. Can someone do this please?!!?!!
No way, let me install Win7 on my N1, please. I want to play Crysis on it.

How did you find this place?
c'mon, plenty of people would be interested in trying an iPhone rom if it were available. however the difference in the chipsets means it probably won't be happening. especially now that Apple makes its own chips.

The A4 is a custom implementation of the ARM A9 processor. Guess which other phone this can be found in...give up? This is also found in the nexus one (Snapdragon). The big difference here is the GPU which is mated with the A9 in appleās design.
Currently, the iPad is the first (and only) product to employ the A4. So for now, porting a rom over wouldn't be limited by the fact it is written against the A4 (A9) but rather they are written against the ARM A8. Not knowing enough about porting I would have to defer to those with larger interest in such a matter but I would think barring any wonky crap apple decided to utilize, a port may not be as impossible as one may think once all of apple's mobile devices are running this new processor.
Having the ability to multi-boot a phone would be insane.
Nexus - custom boot loader (grub) that defaults to the phone's os - android
sd card - debian, winmo7, iphoneOS
Don't like it, don't use it. The ability to do it simply because you can? Sure why not.

Why would you wanna go to windows 8 with android around ? Android on G-note is much more powerful than with windows.
incase you haven't checked the "apollo" and it's capabilities please do a brief research...
windows phone 8 is on a whole new level of competition here...
considering the release of windows 8 for our computers... and the Microsoft E3 press conference... i doubt that "crappy" tag someone just gave above this comment...
i've been using windows mobile 6, 6.1, 6.5, windows phone 7, mango... and galaxy note is my first android device...
before galaxy note i was using htc hd2 and i still have that device... (but galaxy note is my primary device) so i thought if we can port android on a windows phone why can't we port windows to an android phone?
and for the respected people who are interested in this idea... i think we need another version of MAGLDR (like we had in htc hd2) and maybe we can install the "apollo" on our SD card...
we may have a dual boot device!
if you can find (or develop) the drivers, yes... it can be ported.
and yes, i dare say any winblows product is crap
you may "dare" **** your pants or eat crap sir/madam, nobody cares about that... and if you find this post soooo uninteresting or "crappy" why bother replying nonsense thoughts of your p-brain which (...is actually dehydrated) aren't useful for anyone?!
and thanks for the motivation you just gave me... :]
i posted this question to discuss, maybe help real developers/people not assclowns/disrespectful people who don't even respect the hardworking developers who create these operating systems for us...
Its my humble opinion !!!
I was also a user of Windows and bada OS' . And with android around they are not even in the competition. And this is my own opinion, so i'll move it off.
Android is, indeed, more powerful than Windows. But, different strokes for different folks.
Since we have sources now, I'm pretty sure more developers will come along soon and hopefully, for your sake, a developer that can port Windows 8. The more variety, the better, for us all.

Being fair, would it be worth to port it in d note cuz, it involves a lot of time and much more risk( With mmc brick bugs in stable releases themselves).

don't hold your breath. those sources are linux based as android is linux based. do you expect devs to develop a winblows OS based on a linux kernel?
maybe.... just maybe.... when the winblows kernel is freely available and somebody is really interested to port or develop the drivers, then maybe you might have a winblows "experience" on your note. and while you're at it, why not wish for iOS port to Note?
keep wishing........
people hate it when the absurdity of their delusions hits them smack in the face.

Has anyone heard about the performance increases that F2FS received recently regarding the latest Linux Kernels 3.11 - 3.14? Apparently, F2FS is a serious contender when used on NAND based devices. I wonder how many years it will be before us Android users get linux kernels like this?

Hopefully it isn't years till that happens. The difference on my N7 since I've switched to All-F2FS is very incouraging. It would be nice to make it a built in option to use for those who are willing to give this new file system a spin.
Yes it looks like it has a ways to go but man oh man it sure speedied up my device. And I agree, kinda like they did with ART. I wonder why Samsung is doing this though? I sure hope they don't plan on building the next generation file system and then turn around and try and get companies to pay license fee's for it. Lol

The moto x already uses f2fs,and it has great performance for the hardware.

Let's hope that trend spreads to other devices and spills over to other manufacturers.

The difference with using F2FS is quite noticeable, very pleased so far, and also I hope other developers start making more roms and kernels for this file system.

Me too... However, until Google adopts it, it will always be considered a MOD. I just hope a dev some where figures out how to make it an easy transition. Right now it is scaring a lot of people when they make a tiny mistake, do not realize it and then are asked for a password to access their own device... lmao

Just quick question. I searched but couldn't really get an answer. Most of what I found was just using DEX. I thought since windows 10 is running on the snapdragon 835, someone might make it dual boot.
thanks for your replies.

there are developers working on Win10 for ARM, but it isn't quite there, yet. I very much doubt that you will ever have a dual boot Win/Android setup on Note 8, but a Windows 10 shell for DeX is already being worked on and should probably be usable soon.

Thanks. In addition. I thought that windows already released a build for arm? I read several laptops are coming with it. I assume its not just as simple as installing that build onto the note 8 due to other hardware differences, but does it simplify things any? again just asking for my curiosity.

i am not aware of any official release of Win10 for ARM, yet. we are probably a long way from ever booting Win10 on Note 8 for so many reasons. It is nowhere near as simple as installing Windows in a PC.
There are Win10 arm64 builds available but they won't work on Note8. Or any SD835 phone.
Why? Bootloader. We use bootloader made to load Android. So Samsung would need to release a special bootloader to load Windows.
And just in case if You're wondering. SD835 is comparable to i5 6th gen CPU. So performance in Win10 wouldn't be bad. But 6.3 inch display..
If You want to try Win10 on Your Note, just search for "rdp" in Play Store .

Actually he loves Linux. There are a couple things here and there that are annoying to him but that's the same on every OS.
He's also been using it for the last couple of months. He loves the CLI. Before he switched he was trying to use the CLI along with WSL on windows and that stuff just isn't quite there yet. I have used them before personally, and can say that with confidence.
He still uses windows in his gaming machine but the funny thing is, when he goes to use windows he gets super annoyed because he wants to change something or tweak something and can't and gets super frustrated with windows.

I use XFCE for performance since I have an old laptop, but I would definitely choose KDE when I have a faster laptop.
KDE's great. I use it with Manjaro AND I use it on my old Acer (OEM) Win 7 Mini Laptop and it's quite fast, so @SerjSX you might have better performance with it than you think on your old Laptop
Manjaro has too many mods which causes most of their problems.
Been using Arch openbox and xfce for years now.
Playing with Archlabs for over a year now and enjoying the ride and the find people there.
If you can't install Arch manually the Arch way, you likely shouldn't be using Arch.

Dual booting all machines with Arch as my primary OS. I keep Windows around just in case. Big fan of Arch, to the point that I have Arch Linux Arm on my raspberry.
I finally had my first glitch with Manjaro. A lib file won't update in Package Updates (Audio related) and it won't allow me to uninstall that file or reinstall over it without an error for Corrupt Package.
This is on my Mini Laptop I use for testing so I might try that Arch build, finally or another Arch-based OS besides Manjaro
