New ROM on Fire 5th Gen (2015) running 5.6.1.0 - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm hoping I can apply a new ROM (Lineage?) to my aging Kindle Fire 5th Gen (2015) device to help remove bloat and speed it up a bit. I've found all sorts of tutorials on how to do this with version 5.3 and below but nothing for 5.6.+. Worryingly I also see postings implying that 5.6.1.0 can't be rooted which might make the whole process rather short.
Can I flash another ROM over my current version and if so please could someone point me at a resource describing how to do this?
Thanks

No custom ROMs can be installed on newer code, as you found out. If there is ever one, it will probably be at https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/index-amazon-fire-2015-t3210485.
But you might be able to downgrade and remove the adds and bloat apps. See https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77398268&postcount=89
Good luck!

[Q] Whats the best course of action? Custom Rom? or Stock Rom with custom launcher?

I´ve been researching this forum for the last week since I´ve got my new Kindle Fire 2nd. Generation. with software version 10.1.1 already rooted using this method and now I´m in doubt about the next step.
Whats the best option? Go with a custom CM7 or CM10 ROM? Stay with the custom firmware and just use one of the several custom launchers to get rid of the horrible Amazon Carousel interface?
Is the CM10 ROM stable enough? All of the functions work properly? Is battery severely affected?
Also I cant seem to find a simple step by step guide for installing CM10 for the KF 2nd Gen.
Most of the content seem to be for the Kindle Fire 1st. Gen or for the new Kindle Fire HD.
Thanks!
Generally speaking (I can't testify to how well CM10 runs on the KF), I prefer to use the existing Android base that is installed and customize THAT rather than using a custom ROM. Amazon optimizes the version of Android to support the hardware so using that will generally have the best battery life and best performance.
I rooted my KFHD 7" and installed Go Launcher EX. Using that launcher and a few more tweaks like using Google Play and Chrome browser work extremely well.
CM 10 has many things wrong with it, and it should not be used as a daily driver. I recommend for the moment enjoying, the amazon rom, or you can mess around with the other if your willing to test things.

thanks for the tip! I will choose the custom rom route then, so I'm wondering, is there any safe way to prevent the ROM updates from Amazon? (in order to keep my KF rooted and with my configuration.
Thanks
Took me 30seconds to find the thread

But you have to have root access to your kindle!

All of the methods I´ve been reading about blocking updates seem unreliable, with users reporting finding the Kindle with a new updated ROM after an automatic update and things like that, thats why I´m asking.
Regarding that, is better to leave my KF rooted with firmware 10.1 or update it to the latest firmware version?
Thanks for the patience and the tips!

Help please...( New to Kindle), i want to install Android OS...

I just picked up a Kindle Fire HD 7" 2nd gen I believe. It shows 12.2GB in storage model number x43z60, I want to put Android OS on it. Ive never done this before, and i see ALOT of info on here about it. Basically, im sure there is already a thread that will tell me everything i need with download resources.... just asking, can someone direct me to a link, with everything i will need to do this without a Boot cable, and include a stable version of the Android OS, something in the 4.x series.
I dont care if its the stock rom, or a custom rom, prefer a debloated custom rom made to run great, without any bugs or so.... Im confused by everything going on, its alot to take in when your not up to date on whats been going on. Thanks everyone!

If your Kindle doesn't have a camera, it won't work with the ROMs in this subforum.
That being said, for tutorials, check the stickied threads.
Yeah, you have the 2013 model sans camera (I think). Wrong forum.

You have the 2012 model of the Kindle Fire HD; you're in the right place. Read Seokhun and Hashcode's stickies above -- there's a lot of information here, but those are far and away the most important and have all the links you need to go from stock Amazon to Cyanogenmod 11 (Kit-Kat based), although you should refer to the post about installing TWRP 2.8.3.0 recovery below instead of installing 2.7.0.0. What you should know about development for the Kindle is that hybrid OSs (opening up Amazon's version of ICS) were followed byJelly Bean and then Kit-Kat based ROMs and there are now Lollipop-based ones too. CM11 is a good choice.
I'm pretty sure the x43z60 is 2013 model

No -- my Kindle Fire HD 2012 model says "MODEL No. X43Z60" on the back.

Yes. I don't understand the confusion -- what does your Kindle Fire HD 2012 model say on the back?

No confusion, just confirmation. I haven't seen the back of my kindle since I bought it.

Efforts to Either Root or Create Custom ROMs for Fire 2015

Hello. I'm new to XDA. From looking around on here, I've found how to tweak my new Fire 2015 only so much. I would love to do more though, such as install a new launcher or just flash a ROM onto the device. I honestly loved the tablet because of it's price, but I hate how Amazon puts walls up.
Are there any efforts to make ROMs for this device? Or a tutorial to root it? Or is it too new?
-Rick
First step is going to be to get root. There have been some various attempts at obtaining root but no joy as of yet.
And I believe you won't get roms unless the bootloader is unlocked. But there's a pretty good chance neither happens...

Still rootable?

My kids are currently sharing an Amazon Fire tablet, which I've rooted and installed stock Android on to. I was planning on getting a couple more since they're so cheap and then they wouldn't have to share, but, from reading around on this thread, it looks like they're not rootable any more - is that the case?
It seems as if it requires rolling back the version and that Amazon have done something to prevent that and cause it to brick devices. I really hate Fire OS and only want to do this if I can get stock Android on the tablet...

depends on the firmware version, in most cases, downgrading will brick the Fire

Like I posted in a different post, I just bought a fire tablet 16gb ($59.99) yesterday (5/2/17) at best buy and it came with OS ver 5.1.3 which auto updated itself to 5.1.4 only and nothing higher (thank goodness). Was able to downgrade to 5.1.2 and achieve root.
So I guess your just going to have to purchase one and hope it comes with FireOS <5.3.2.1. (5.1.4, 5.1.3 and 5.1.2.1) and if your lucky, follow these steps like I did https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/root-fire-7-5th-gen-2015-fireos-5-1-3-5-t3471395
Good Luck!

Well, I had to downgrade to 5.1.2 from 5.1.4 using this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/root-fire-7-5th-gen-2015-fireos-5-1-3-5-t3471395 Then I was able to root with kingroot (took several tries), block OTA updates, remove lockscreen ads, remove FireOS launcher and replace it with Nova.

Sorry misunderstood your question the first time. No I did not try to root 5.1.4. Just followed the guide to a tee. Didn't want to higher my chances of bricking the new device. haha
In the Fire HD forums there are claims that simply downgrading to an even earlier version (4.5.3) allow rooting - are the devices really so different that this wouldn't work on the standard fire? I bought a couple more tablets, but they appear to be running 5.3.3.0

Yes they are and yes you will brick a 5th or 6th gen device downgrading FireOS 5.3.3.x to a lower rootable build.

Fire Tablet 5th Fire OS 5.6.0.1 - Alternative ROM

Hi!
I'm searching the Net for an alternative ROM for the Fire Tablet 5th generation (OS 5.6.0.1). I just found solutions for older OS-versions (Nexus Rom or SlimROM). I'm really unsure if it's possible to flash without bricking the device. I just want to get rid of the Amazon firmware to have some more free RAM and maybe to get it a bit faster...
So, is it possible with this OS-version?
Help is appreciated

Nope; FireOS 5.6.x for 5th gen devices can not be rooted or rolled back to a rootable build so no ability to install (flash) a custom ROM even if one were available. A locked bootloader seals the deal.
Install Google Play Services/Store and an alternative launcher (eg: Nova) to improve the experience.
