Pressure or force touch navigation doesn't work for me.
Can someone test to see if hard press swipe left or right trigger back or recents?
That never worked for me didn't matter which Galaxy S or Note I had since they introduced it.
I used this feature on s9 extensively... I hope the didnt remove ....
Is this the hard press on the square button (on any open app) and goes to home? Yes. It is available.

He is talking about when you press home and swipe in a direction it'll do that action. For example home swipe left will go back

Yep that's it!
I tried a lot of stuff, clear cache, safe mode, settings reset.
The only thing that might fix it is a factory resset, but maybe Samsung removed or forgot to add this feature so I'm waiting for someone's else opinion, maybe my unit ia defective, who knows. Iasked on Samsung support but there's no reply ITS BEEN 5 HRS.
Dang, i never knew that!! Could've used that with S8 and S9+. I am doing it now and it doesn't do any. Press and hold home swipe left or right on Tapatalk don't do any.
Nothing on the setting to activate it either.

Never worked well for me. I know it works but I don't bother doing it. Maybe they did get rid of it. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I think at this point it is something worth exploring. I use bxaction to remap the bixby button for back button. With th bixby2.0, it cant be used smoothly. This gesture in question would be a great alternative.
A gesture I miss using ios. Swipe to the right from left edge for back on most apps.
Went to a samsung store today, all of the phones there where demos and didnt have this option enabled, tried to activate it in settings but, them beeing demos' settings dont apply.
My fried who's working there told me its not implemented yet so, I really need it back, also the movable shutter button from the s9 s9+ is missing too.
Also, dang son! the SOT on this is great for me, i have 5% battery now with 7:30 SOT and 20hrs in total.
The movable shutter button (selfie mode) is available on mine. Verizon phone (from Samsung).

Recently, I've been considering getting a Nexus One, however, most of the reviews I read say that the N1's capacitive buttons are a little unresponsive. You must tap the upper half of the button as opposed to the bottom half of the button.
I've also read that some of the cyanogen roms have fixed this problem. Can anyone give me more insight on this issue?
I've never had a problem with mine.
I saw a review saying that they got in the way when typing w/ the onscreen keyboard, but I haven't even had that, and I'd like to think that I have pretty normal-sized fingers.
Some people have problems, others don't i personally haven't. I wouldn't consider it to be something important enough to sway me from a sale though.
Stock Rom had this issue. If you unlock your bootloader, all the kernels (and mods) available now have a fix for this, as well as a few other things.
Im sure when 2.2 update comes out this fix will be passed on to the stock version too (at least as far as im aware it hasnt already!?). So tbh this isnt an issue for you not to get a nexus one...also, there's no point getting a nexus one if ur too scared to unlock the bootloader!!

Definitely! That's one of the biggest reasons why I want an N1. It has a good root and dev community and gets android updates first.
I just thought it'd be annoying to have to use a phone with crappy capacitive buttons, but I'm glad to hear that the problem has been fixed.
The only other thing I'm worried about is the dualtouch but it's most definitely going to get fixed in the next update.
Thanks to everyone for their input. I'll definitely be picking up an N1 soon
I have rooted and custom roms etc and I still hate the capacitive buttons with a passion. They are not nearly enough to topple the overall awesome that is the N1 but man I hate those things.
I only hate those buttons, when Nex is in my car mount!

Is this true? I've tried plenty of ROMs and kernels and I don't remember any of them changing the button sensitivity.
The best way to show off how frustrating the buttons can be is to give the phone to someone that's never played with it before and watch as they struggle to register touches on the buttons. The people that use the phone daily have recognized that the touchpad is above the button and never think about it any more.
It's very apparent as soon as you rotate the phone into a different position though.

I also haven't noticed any change in the sensitivity with different ROMs or kernels. For me though, sometimes if I hit right on top of the button it won't register. I am used to just tapping it a little above and it works everytime.
As others have said, this is definitely not a deal breaker for me or shouldn't be for any person IMO. This phone's pros far outweigh the cons.

absolutely true and this was my discovery today (day 4 with n1). the buttons work fine if you cheat towards the top of the button area and overlap into the screen area.
that solved it for me.

Did you just buy your N1 from Google brand new?
Those buttons are a pain in the bum, but you get used to them, the bigger problem is if the phone gets too cold it starts mis-registering the touchscreen necessitating a reboot or a bunch of mucking around to fix it. This is the biggest annoyance with the phone for me, hopefully they fix the screen calibration in 2.2!
Almost swapped mine for a Desire, thinking less of doing so now, unless anyone can offer a good reason
I got my N1 straight from Google on day one, and I'm currently running CM 5.06
I find the capacitive buttons to be _awful_ if I tap directly on them it takes 2-5 attempts to get it to register.
However, I have found that if I swipe from the button down off the bottom of the button it registers ever single time.
I'm pretty convinced that the problem isn't the digitiser itself but in the driver that splits that section of the digitiser off. I believe it checks to see if there is upward movement before registering a button tap and if it does detect upward motion it cancels the tap event and forwards the event as a touch screen event. I also thing that because I have pretty big fingers any time I press the flattening of my finger registers as a slight upward motion.
If I could find the button "sub"-driver I'd be hacking at it right now.
Still, I wouldn't give up my N1.

Just realized that!!
It does not get the upward movement
It gets: right, left & down
So this means, one could set different options for different directions...

I have noticed no issues when holding the phone in my hands but the responsiveness is not that great if the phone is flat on a desk or a similar surface. I wonder what if anything the accelerometer may play a factor.

I dunna man, my 3-year-old daughter figured it out within a minute of getting my phone. I set her up in a game and she decided she wanted something else, so she messed with the capacitive buttons until she got out of the game. Once she had it once or twice (~5-10 seconds for her to figure out each time) it was pretty much instant after that. If a 3-yo can figure it out, I'm pretty sure it's not THAT difficult. Annoying, sure....but not difficult.

Yes. Direct from Google.
Wow there's definitely a good mix of answers. I thought that the newer batches of N1's fixed the capacitive button problem, but apparently not.
I guess there's not a definite answer. It seems the only conclusion you can make is that some N1's may still have the problem, some may not. Some can be fixed with custom roms and unlocking the bootloader and some cannot. Your results may very.
EDIT: After rereading some of the previous posts (more carefully. excuse my sleep deprived state lol), the capacitive button issue might actually be more of a feature than an issue. I've read similar posts about the capacitive buttons having that sort of "motion detection" thing to prevent accident presses. Hopefully for anyone still having the problem, you can reread some of the posts on this page and give their methods a try
I haven't had a problem with mine but I haven't had the problems most people say they have with the phone so I would recommend this phone to anyone that wants an android phone

Hi devs!
Since i have this phone iam searching the function for double-tap to wake-up feature.
Esp, cause the previous models had this feature.
I've been through a few launchers and a few apps, but it seems with a fingerprint-sensor this feature has become unavailable?
Any people here managed to double-tap to wake-up their device?
Thanks in advance!

Sorry to say but that incredibly useful feature is missing from the XZ1c. It's not just a software thing, I believe it's missing at a hardware level. So either the screen is different or the kernel doesn't support it.
Wave up is a way of opening and closing the screen and has had some good reviews from XDA members.
Thanks for your reply.
Let's see if i can get used to this and finetune it a little.

I'm giving a shot myself with this app... It seems working great... Only doubt of course is the battery draining... Let's see after a few days of testing...
P. S. So Wave Up is for the waving hands thing... What about double tap to wake?

Double tap to wake likely needs lower level support that isn't possible with a mere app.
BTW, I've been using the Wave Up app for months, did not notice any battery drain.
I personally love the wake screen after removing from pocket feature, it works like a charm and so handy to have. I now wonder how I lived for so long without it.
Also, you don't need to actually wave your whole hand, just flick a finger 2 or 3 times over the sensor area and boom. Although I'd still prefer DTTW, it's a great compromise.

Yeah, I saw WaveUp recommended on XDA too and used it after trying and disliking Gravity Screen. It's been fantastic, and I actually don't notice a lot of battery drain from it either. I sometimes end up double-tapping the proximity sensor. That generally works pretty well. Sometimes even better than waving.
Just a little update about WaveUp.
Definitely, a must have for XZ1 Compact owners. ?????????????????. After a few days of testing I can confirm it has almost zero impact to battery (I can't notice any difference, in fact it doesnt even shown on Setting's Battery usage) but once u use it... U can't stay without it anymore!
I really i don't understand why Sony didn't include this functionality out of the box...
I am using Gravity Screen to wake my phone using the proximity sensor, but I noticed it keeps the sensor ON all the time even when the phone is locked. I think this is what WaveUp do as well. I'm kind of concerned with the sensor being awake all the time that it might affect the lifespan of the sensor and get damaged fast. I hope SONY put back that double tap to wake.

I am using "Glimpse Notification"
They do it on purpose, they always take something away and then put it back in the next model. But the next model will miss a different detail, and so on ...
I am writing to you because I have a mystery that I want to solve.
Sometime ago and just about one hour ago, I picked my phone from the table and it went into a weird camera mode and suddenly closed to home screen.
I saw strange icons. At first I thought it was stickers or emoji mode (because of interface style) , but I played with them before and it was different. I checked them to be sure it was not some kind of upgrade, it wasn't. Both emoji and stickers mode are different from what I saw.
I have been thru every camera mode and I also have a few camera apps which I also opened to check if the mysterious interface I saw was from any of those apps. NO, no app is even like what I saw in a glimpse on this two occasions.
First time I saw I got curious but I dismissed as a trick of mind. But now AGAIN?
Anyone know or heard about something like this?
This is making me crazy cause I like to know every feature my smartphone have.
By the way Note 9 Stock and not rooted.
My brain is also stock, no drugs ?
Thank you all for the help.
UPDATE: is there a log with all the apps opened in the last hours? again not rooted.

I explained that it opened and then suddenly closed. It was fast, I wasn't expecting and I had no time to even pay closed attention to the screen. It was a glimpse. But it happened twice. Impossible to take screen shot. Even if it happen again there is no time for that.
Is anyone else having an issue with the always on display? Not a big deal but occasionally the AOD goes off and the tap to wake function doesn't work. Unlocking/locking the phone fixes it but it reoccurs again randomly through the day.

I was having the same issue when I had the edge notification app installed that makes the screen light up around the camera when you get a notification.
Uninstalled and no issues since
Tap to wake not working for me
Not sure if this is connected but in addition to the always on display/tap to wake issue when I'm in a phone call the screen will stay off even when I move the phone from my ear to hang up, see the keypad etc. Again I have to use the power button to wake the screen. A problem with the proximity sensor perhaps?

Not using a case. It's sporadic. Tap to wake works fine for a while and then stops. The issue during calls is constant. Not major issues just niggles.
Not noticed any bugs with ambient display, but it has used 20 percent battery in 21hrs.
Seems a bit high to me, have just turned it off, not worth a 5th of my battery.

Yeah I'm having both issues happen RANDOMLY as well. I'm HOPING Google will put out a fix for these two issues very soon.
Tried working with Google's Tech Support Team via chat earlier on the AOD issue. Tried a few things like clearing the cache of the launcher & restarting in Safe Mode then back to Normal Mode, and it seems to be doing it less but then it just did it again for a short time like an hour ago.
Using a case, no edge stuff, and also using Nova Launcher (though it happened in Pixel Launcher as well).
If anyone finds a fix for this, I would appreciate it too!

Mine is fine for a while them randomly the tap-to-wake won't respond. I had also hoped that the OTA would have addressed, but maybe it is affecting far fewer users than other bugs.

I recommend you guys report these issues to Google so to increase the odds of them coming up with an OTA sooner than later. You can call them or chat with them via this link (as I did). Just scroll down to the bottom and choose your contact preference.

On the pixel support forum they also recommend you report it via settings>about phone>send feedback about device. I think this way it also easily picks up the log files.
I believe the answer to all of your questions lies in a faulty proximity sensor. I was driving myself nuts with all of these issues exactly, and no app was the culprit because I factory reset and still had the issue. I'm going to post a link to a Reddit thread that I found that confirmed my suspicions. on Wednesday of this week I went back to Verizon and traded the phone in and now I have received a phone that works 100% as expected.

Yeah I got an e-mail from the support guy to do that as well after he'd ask that I send a bug report. Just did it regarding AOD not staying on all the time and also.............I noticed that Hold for Me doesn't ALWAYS come up when calling businesses. Two examples include T-Mobile Customer Service & a local major hospital in Chicago. In most cases though, it does. Just an FYI. Not sure if this is something that they will fix, but I think it should come up all the time, or AT LEAST when you're calling an established business of ANY kind.

I don't believe it's a calibration issue. The way mine worked (or didn't as the case may be) was sporadic and seemed to almost be as if the sensor or module was loose? Inside the housing. Quite literally, jostling it around would make it work sometimes. Furthermore, if you download the app in that reddit thread, the proximity sensor tester Link Here, you can sort of gauge yourself if it's actually occurring. With mine, sometimes it would work by swiping my hand over the sensor, the color would change. Other times, the color stayed the same, and as the video showed ,I could put pressure on where the sensor was and change the color. But if it wasn't working, jostling the phone around would sometimes make it work and the color would change.
Additionally in the advanced test in that app, it is supposed to tell you how far away from the sensor an object is. On my (nonworking) phone, that number for distance would be pegged at 0 regardless of how far away my hand was. However if I put pressure on the sensor, it would jump to like 5 cm.
See if your phone is doing these things. If so, I would recommend you get it replaced, as it likely will not work properly otherwise. Verizon deemed this a hardware issue when I swapped phones. Also note that I factory reset twice, and one of those times I imported literally nothing when setting it up. So it wasn't a settings or app issue. I do believe there's a rash of faulty proximity sensors going on here.

Hey Morpherios,
Ok.............downloaded that app and tried it out several times. It passed some of the time, but then I'd try it again a few minutes later and it would fail on both tests. Ughh!!
You think even though it passed a few times I still need to replace it?
I'm having a lot of trouble initiating the back button gesture by swiping from the left to right. I come from a OnePlus 7 Pro and its nav gestures were nearly flawless. The one on this one feels forced and awkward. Any suggestions on how to get this feature to work better?
I recently gave up and went back to buttons. Not for the reasons you mentioned but because third-party launchers+gestures do not work well. I went back to buttons and have been happy ever since.
May not be an ideal solution for you but you could give buttons a try as it would technically resolve your issues.
But if not, there is a sensitivity setting for the back gesture, maybe try playing around with that?

I was actually able to find the sensitivity setting and it did resolve my problem. For now.. lol
