I brought an old Nexus to try out Linux OS (Ubuntu) into ARM device (Nexus7).
After realising the limitations of the device and non-availability of libraries, I revert back to android ROMs.
Came across OmniROM and flashed into the device. To my surprise, it has everything as I expected. Kudos to whoever built this ROM.
It is like Lubuntu of Ubuntu distro.
I am trying adb and fastboot after years... It is lot of fun.

Hey all,
I'm trying to install a linux distro on my phone using linux deploy. But during the installation process I'm getting the error: FATAL: Kernel too old.
Currently I'm using My-ROM on my phone so that it's rooted and I can use it the way I want it to. However this seems to be shipped with a rather old kernel from 2014.
The kernel I'm using is: 3.0.8-00453-gb101afe
Is there a custom build kernel or a stock one out there for huawei ascend p7 that supports linux deploy, and I can simply do a kernel upgrade from within clockworkmod without messing things up?
I would even pay someone to build me a custom kernel that works for my phone with linux deploy if I have to...
I would very much appreciate it if someone knows of a solution.

The huawei p7 is basically dead, because developers have no interest in it, just buy a newer phone and from another company like htc, because Huawei has little interest even with it's current flagships.
Sorry I shouldn't have started this thread, the error message I got was distro specific and had something to do with glibc. It wasn't the kernels fault even though thats what the error said. I went with a different distro and everything is fine now. I do however agree with your comment. If I wanted to have the latest and greatest it's probably better to buy a new phone. But it doesn't concern me as much currently if I can get things working the way I want on this phone.
This is the proof that our redmi y2/s2 supports project treble. About this, the bootloader needs to be unlocked and have had a working custom recovery to flash any gsi. The architecture seem to be a problem, but arm gsi are also available. So, all we need now is a stable working recovery to test the roms. And the bootloader has to be individually worked on to get a x64 architecture support. X32 arch. roms are actually used to lessen heating issues and increase battery life but it also reduces the full potential of the device.
In short, these are the two main things to that needs be worked upon:
a) Bootloader
b) Custom recovery (stable)
After we get those, we need to test to know if the vendor files of x32 works on x64.

Hello!
My Moto X2 currently runs a firmware called VICTARA and Andorid 6. I looked for that here and I see it was built on Cyanogen Mod. The thing is I also read here that newer builds are made in Lineage OS. I'd be upgrading from Android 6 to Android 7.
I don't know if the process is the same as it used to be when I updated my phone back in 2015 with that Victara firmware. I mean, do I just have to run CMD and tell it to flash? I'm asking because I really don't want to brick my phone
And another short question: in Gapps webpage do I choose ARM 64 or ARM?
Thank you
After failing to flash some lineage 14 roms I found here for the device "Ford" I'm not sure whether this is possible. Thought mine is a Ford because it was also mentioned as Fire HD 7 but I actually not sure if mine is a Ford. It seems Fire HD 8 is the Ford. Maybe some wording problems I found in that thread. My model is x43z60. According to Wiki is should be a 4th Gen. Ages ago when I bought this thing..It's for sure a Fire HD.
My plan, let's say wishes, is to run Octoprint and Klipper firmware for my 3D printer on the fire tablet like it's described here where Lineage with CH341 driver seems to be nessarry. Or may this be possible with the Cyanogen Mod 14 rom?
Hope you can lead md into the right direction.
Can someone please help me identify this device? Since I open the thread I was bricking the device, soldered a factory cable and reinstalling to stock several times as there is chaos regarding the model naming and no source where those tate, ford, jemi, soho names get a clear identification. Or at least I'm not able to find it.
For instance I did use CM (cm-11-20150412-NIGHTLY-tate) and a CM-14 rom I can't find anymore which are for the tate which work but tate even on Cyanogen website says its just the Fire 7 from 2012. But mine seems to be the 4th Gen 2014 so it shouldn't work looking at those bold red warning then - but it does. For instance the 2013 model is called SOHO and everywhere it says don't mix up the firmware for the tate. When 2013 has its own name what is the name for the 2014 and why does tate release work on this?
When I try to install lineage-14.1-20180326-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip which seem to work for people with the 4th gen it freezes on the kindle orange boot logo.
//EDIT: Got it working with lineage-14.1-20180326-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip. Net says its a ARIEL model idk why this works but idc. What a mess. Seems every household has its own rom
Anyone can help me and say if if it's possible to run a Linux with Linux deploy on the LineOS 14.1 and this kernel 3.0.7?
Getting errors with Linux Deploy "Fatal kernel to old" depending on the distribution and architecture I choose. If don't get this error I get another chroot /bin/su no such file or permission denied. The device is rooted oc.

You need Kernel 3.2 or newer to run newer distros.
The only 'supported' distro out there that will work for you is CentOS 7, as it shipped with a glibc old enough to run on a 3.0 Kernel.
My favorite tablet by far is my S2 T710, and I can't seem to find a comparable one that can run a more current android version. Many apps crash a lot on it, and I am thinking about rooting it and installing a more recent android to see if that improves things. My questions are
Is it worth doing? Or will I find things like "Netflix no longer works" ,etc?
I see that it requires using odin3, which seems to be just for windows. Since I have just osx and linux, I'm wondering if there is an alternative. And, even if there is, would I be better off borrowing a windows device to be sure of the smoothest installation
Thanks

I am going through the process of trying to install the SM-T710 version of Linage 18.1 (unofficial), see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...or-sm-t710-july-23-2022.4430339/post-86952281
I do not know if it is necessary to root the device before installing the special version of TWRP that it requires.

Rooting is not necessary. You don't need it for installing TWRP, or installing the custom ROM, or using the ROM.

Odin is not the only way to flash a custom recovery to a Samsung device. There's a package called heimdall for Linux, MacOS, and Windows that can do this.
As a guide, you could look at the LineageOS installation instructions for Samsung devices that have LOS official ROMs. Some of those explain how to use heimdall to install Lineage Recovery.
Obviously, you would substitute TWRP for Lineage Recovery.
For example, see Installing a Custom Recovery using Heimdall https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/beyond1lte/install#installing-a-custom-recovery-using-heimdall in the beyond1lte device instructions. Ignore the other sections of the instructions for that device, and once you have TWRP installed, use it to wipe partitions and flash the unofficial LineageOS ROM.
