Update installation. How to do? - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello. I'm sorry for my bad english. I have a device with a locked bootloader. I downloaded the latest update (156), but I dont know how to install it via ADB. What are the commands? Where do I find a step-by-step guide?

You can't.
Bootloader unlock codes aren't being provided any more, unless a solid unofficial method comes along.
You need an unlocked bootloader and twrp installed to use HU Updater which isn't possible without the above

From what I understand you're saying you do not want to install a custom rom, just rooted stock rom?
Yes you can still recieve ota update but I think you must relock the bootloader before you install ota update
You could do that yet it would be an unbearable and unnecessary effort.
Just go with Android Revolution HD.
It is in sync with the OTA updates, nothing would look or feel different than stock. But has a better performance and battery life overall.

All right, I want root my stock rom and (Titanium Backup) and to continue to have the official update.
INFO:
Unlocking through htcdev.com will wipe your phone to factory defaults. Nothing will be wiped of you sd-card, only of your phone.
Ok, but after i have ulnocked the phone with htcdev, where find a guide for root?

After you unlock, you can use the same procedure that you do for Revolutionary, namely you install ClockworkMod Recovery and then from CWM recovery you can install the lastest version of su-3.0.xxxx.zip to root the ROM. Then you can use Titanium Backup, BusyBox, etc.

[KitKat] [Lollipop] Root XT1039/XT1040 CF-Auto-Root Peregrine By Chainfire

CF-Auto-Root Peregrine by Chainfire
I asked chainfire to provide us with a supporting root programme to root the Moto G 4G edition XT1039/XT1040 Peregrine
This will root the Moto G XT1039/XT1040 on KitKat or Lollipop
Instructions
Copy file to pc
Connect phone to PC via USB
Put phone in fastboot mode
Unzip all the files in zip
Run the script depending on what
operating system you are using
Restart phone once done
Optional step
Open the supersu app and update the binary (normal method not recovery)
Download
Chainfires CF-Auto-Root site Here
Notes
You need an unlocked bootloader
You need to unlock your bootloader via the Motorola website before using this!
If you have already unlocked your bootloader in the past it will not format data
This version should do all Peregrine models but use at your own risk
All credit goes to chainfire for making the package

Nice work, thanks!

Thanks you marcussmith2626 (and to Chainfire of course) I have seen the CF AutoRoot the other day and was thinking that the one for XT1003 would surely work for the XT1039/1040/1042/1045, but having one specially made for ours is better.
One thing to know: the recovery is not flashed, only booted (command used is fastboot boot), so no change is made to the (custom) recovery, which is good.
I have already rooted my XT1039 so I do not need to use this but I will use it next time I flash my phone.
I don't know if Chainfire will regularly update these images to update superSU binary, but updating it from Playstore is very easy anyway

So this means, we do not need the motorola-website to get an unlock code? CF-Root will unlock
the bootloader on its own? Meaning Motorola can never know that the bootloader was unlocked,
if we lock it again?

No you need to unlock the phone via the Motorola website if you have never unlocked the bootloader before
It means if you have relocked the bootloader since you unlocked it then it will unlock it again
WIll I be able to update OTA to Lollipop (when it comes available), with this applied?
/EDIT:
I think I have an answer to above question:
To be able to sideload the OTA I will:
1) download and extract the 5.0 factory image
2) fastboot flash boot boot.img
3) fastboot flash system system.img
4) adb sideload The5_0_1OTA.zip
Anyone can confirm this?
I know I will lose root again after following above steps.

Only time will tell if you can update whilst rooted
If you change any apps in system it's unlikely you will be able to
It doesn't change the recovery so you will still have stock recovery
There is an unroot feature in the supersu app but I don't know if this is enough to fully unroot
If all else fails you can always flash stock 4.4.4 and then update
How to get pass < Waiting for device>
How do you get past the <waiting for device> screen on a mac. I can't seem to overcome that part.
UPDATE:
I've since move on to using a PC instead of a Mac. But now I get:
booting...
FAILED <remote failure>
I also tried unlocking through the motorola website and it tells me I cannot unlock device. Is this normal?

You need to unlock your bootloader via the Motorola website before you can use this
Some models on certain carriers cannot be unlocked - see Motorola website for details on unlocking bootloader and if your device can be unlocked
Tested on official lollipop for XT1039 23.21.17.peregrine_retgb.retgball.en.GB.retgb and roots it fine
Apps optimize on restart and may restart twice - just wait till its finished booting

Firmware images have not been released yet
I have a copy of the old ota from the first build (there have been 3 in total) - The difference as far as I can tell is kernel changes and probably better multitasking but its probably best you wait until Motorola pushes it out to everyone

Honor 4x Che1-L04 Root[SOLVED]

Hello.
I recently rooted my device using Kingroot app. As a confirmed way was not found to root this device in MM version. I had to downgrade it to lollipop and then root this device.
And now my question is in the updates, there is a OTA update to MM. If i install that will my device remain rooted or it will be unrooted in the process? I am a learner and recently started to root sorry if it is a stupid question.
And i cannot even install the twrp or cwmod in this device. As the bootloader is locked. I have got the unlock code form the website. But when i try to flash it using minimal adb and fastboot. All it does is waiting for device. I am on windows 10 pro.
Thank you.

Yes you'll need to unlock the bootloader.
As for the update itself, I use the method here... https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-mate-9-flash-update-package-t3593108
Originally written for the mate 9, it's been updated for the p10.
It will also debrand if you want to go to C432, and/or update to any rom.
It will wipe your phone though, so backup anything you need to your external sd card.

Yes, technically, but it can be relocked. Indeed the method I linked to above relocked my bootloader twice when I was rebranding to C432, although I don't know if that "restores" the warranty.
If you didn't want to unlock the bootloader, then you'd have to wait for the update to arrive via OTA as a "normal" update from Huawei

How to manualy update rooted phone by stock firmware

Hi everybody
I browse various forums and sites and I can't find a definite answer to my question. I have a model (VTR-L29C432) with stock rom (B123). Bootloader is unlocked, root and TWRP (3.1.0-0-vtr) installed.
How can I upgrade my system to (B164)? I downloaded three files using FirmwareFinder (update, update_data_full_public, update_full_VTR-L29_hw_eu).
Can I flash them with recovery (TWRP) ?
Sorry for my english (google translator)
Please help me.
Regards
Update while keeping your personal files isn't possible with rooted phone. You can use HWOTA to install a new version but all your data will get lost.
