Flashing firmware on USA unlocked device with a twist. - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Can I flash the T-Mobile firmware on my unlocked note 9 snapdragon? I believe I can. The reason I'm saying this is because I had a note 8 on T-Mobile working well on Sprint before. It was originally a t mobile device that I had unlocked. when putting in the Sprint sim card the device auto configured itself. Will the same thing happen if I flash the T-Mobile rom and use my sprint sim?

Possibly. The note 8 and 9 are similar in that it is really only 1 US model and just the firmware changes. Basically with a US snapdragon you can flash any official firmware from a carrier and it should work fine, the only difference being something unique to the note 8 tmo rom that did something special when you put it on sprint. Also , because this way of flashing really isn't rooting or anything, you would have nothing to lose and could always flash back.

Would like to know if anyone with the U1 device flashed to a carrier specific firmware and got their other features back like RCS and video calling functionality?

We will need eng kernel before that happens. I'm sure it will be doable in the future, not now though.
Edit.....looks like note 8 could be different than the s8...

Flash to all and all to flash...no prob
So if I flash AT&T firmware on Tmobile Note 8, it should work fine on AT&T since there's no Tmobile Unlock App in it? Right?
Just bought a Tmobile Note 8 and am trying to make it run on AT&T

Yes...if you look into the s8+ forum for carrier switch there is a guide that should also work for note 8...the main focus is to change the csc...however, you may just be able to flash the ATT firmware and it work when you put in the ATT SIM. It may be better to flash the unlocked firmware first...and then to att...but to get the device to be csc ATT, instead of ATT, ATT, TMB, You may have to follow the S8+ guide...
So try the easiest first, flash ATT...If activation does not work, flash Unlocked then ATT, if that is no good...follow the S8+ guide with Canadian firmware to change csc code of device to ATT...you might pm the op of the S8+ guide about what Canadian firmware to flash to change the csc...I am going to make a guide for us when I have a chance to test it myself...if just flashing to AT&T works...awesome, good luck
Oh yeah...the device must be unlocked first to change carriers...you can get it unlocked by T mobile or by paying for it

Flashing Samsung Galaxy Note 8 - G955W (Canadian) to a G950U1 Note 8

Hi Everyone,
I've searched and could not find a clear answer, and am hoping someone can help.
I just purchased a US Samsung Note 8 (SM-950U1), my question is, is it possible for me to install the G955W (Canadian) firmware on this device?
For Canadian users is anyone currently using a US Note 8 (SM-950U1) Factory unlocked?
Thanks.
Made a typo I meant can I flash SM-N950W Canadian firmware to a SM-950U1 Factory unlocked Note 8
Thanks,

not yet, North American models are all Snapdragon with locked bootloaders. If someone finds a way to unlock the bootloader then you could get a flashable zip version of a Canadian ROM and use that but as far as I've seen nobody has been able to do much with the Snapdragon variants yet.
I have been reading the s8 plus thread where users have flashed the s8 plus Canadian (sm-g955w) firmware to the Us s8 plus (sm-g955u) is it not the same process?
Thanks for your help

If you follow the s8 + guide...if available it would be the same for u...I am working on a guide for carrier switching but it is for U.S. snapdragon models...but it uses the Canadian XAC home_csc...I say pm the poster of the s8+ that you mentioned for details and then flash at your own risk....you can always flash back to your original....before you do, though, insert your Canadian carrier SIM and see if you can activate it...when I was testing the carrier switch there were options to change to Canadian csc's....good luck
Any update? I also bought my note 8 from USA. With the US firmware, we do not have access to certain features like VOLTE or caller ID and spam protection.
Check out blue fox's thread. I just flashed US firmware on a Canadian unlocked XAA device(not sim locked to Rodgers, bell etc). long as your flashing stock Samsung firmware, youll be fine. The Canadian and US Note 8 phones are basically the same.

ATT Firmware to Unlocked Firmware!

Good day!, Dear xda community!, I just got a brand new ATT Note 9 with the firmware SM-N960U, I was wondering since I don't mind about WiFi calling nor VoLTE or any of the carries specifics since I live offshore, would it be as simple as downloading the SM-N960U1 XXA firmware and flashing it to get rid of all the bloat?
Yes that will work. Wipe the device with regular CSC.
Thanks!, I'm downloading the firmware right now, at crazy slow speeds but o well!

S10 U firmware vs. U1 question re carrier specific optimizations

I read on another forum that does have the technical talent that XDA has, that if I have an unlocked S10 with a U firmware and start on T-Mobile as an example and then restart the phone with an AT&T sim card that the phone will reconfigure itself for AT&T including the built in apps.
Is this true?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, Samsung uses multi-csc firmware on most devices for a few years now. If your going to use att for service though i would recommend flashing there specific firmware they release which is more optimized. There are a few threads with links to the files. And if you switch away from att later switch back to any other U/U1 carriers firmware.

NOT TRUE WITH THE S10 from a US CARRIER!!!
Each Firmware is Carrier specific if the phone is locked to that carrier!
Once the phone is unlocked, you CAN flash the USC Firmware, which is the Unlocked MultiCSC and AUTO SWITCHING for most USA carriers....
The only G973U phones that do this out of the box are the UNLCOKED phones from Samsung. They have a CSC of USC.
ALSO, good luck finding "AT&T Specific Firmware", as it is nearly impossible to find, the USC firmware hass all of the carriers bloat built in as well. and it switches it out automatically when you swap sims....
AND, if you do install the ATT specific firmware, you will just have to flash it again if you want to switch to another carrier and actually have their features and apps! SO, Just use USC firmware!

I was saying to use att firmware because its been agreed upon without it you wont have that good of signal. Blame ATT for being a**holes like that. Just because you CAN use other firmware dosent mean its the only or best way.

Wifi Calling on carrier unlocked note 10 lite phone

I recently purchased a Note 10 liter to replace my broken note 8. I am on Verizon and I bought a carrier unlocked phone.
I do not see the wifi calling feature to enable it on the phone and the seller told me that I would need a carrier locked phone for this feature.
Is there anything I can do to enable this feature? I am ok with installing a ROM in order to do so.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Hi, I don't know if Verizon is similar to AT&T but I had to not only flash the AT&T bloatware, I had to use my old SIM card that had previously been used in an AT&T carrier branded phone & in their system for a time (for me it was over a year) to get all of the expected features. Wifi calling, visual voicemail, HD voice & video.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I am using the SIM card from my old phone in the new Note 10 lite. Maybe I need to wait for a while.
Is there a site I can download the Verizon apps from to install them?
thanks

I assume this is an International or Latin American version?
I'm guessing you can use the Frija app to get the firmware & a specific Odin to flash the software. Search here on XDA for answers. Maybe you won't be able to flash us carrier software on a foreign model?

The Note 10 lite is an International Device. There are no roms to flash as there is no Twrp. The only way a rom can be flashed is creating a rom that is like a Magisk module and flash it that way. As of now none exist. Usually you need a At&t csc zip or whatever carrier you are using and flash the csc with Twrp. And i don't believe there is a carrier version of the 10 lite. The 10 lite already has volte. I have been using mine on At&t with At&t sim and there is no wifi calling. You can unlock the bootloader and root. I wrote up a how to guide on rooting. The only thing you can do is call your carrier and see what they can do. But I know I have tried this before on At&t with an international device and they said they were unable to activate wifi calling on that device

Same phone as original poster?
Are you using an old SIM card from Verizon that you used with a previous phone?
Did you have to do something special to get it working?

Probably because its being used in the region its for

The only time I have seen wifi calling work on a International device used in United States is with a custom rom with csc from different carriers cooked into the rom. In my experience International phones do not support this right out of the box. So yes its easy to say "works for me" when you live in the region the phone was made for..lol.

I know this is a year old post, but I just picked up a Vietnamese Note 10 Lite, and wifi calling works just fine on T-Mobile in the US.
Just in case anyone else had the same question at some point.
