Now the Axon 9 has finally been released, it looks like it isn't much of a successor to the Axon 7 and is instead attempting to be the same as pretty much all other phones out there.
I refer, of course, to the lack of dual front-facing speakers, and headphone jack. It really doesn't seem to have the same audio focus as the Axon 7.
I suppose we should have seen this coming what with the Axon M nonsense instead of the Axon 8.
I wonder what the options are now for people wanting good front-facing speakers. I notice the Xiaomi Mi MIX INFLUX has them, but they're both on the bottom, which seems odd. I wonder why they couldn't put a pair on the top too (one on each corner), so it would be stereo in both landscape and portrait.
I'm currently using a Pixel 2, which is good enough, I guess...it has the nice crisp treble of front-facing speakers, but the bass is lacking, and there's no headphone jack...(no to mention dual sim [though it has an esim, apparently] and microsd).
Hola
I was eagerly awaiting the final build and spec sheet of this A9 Pro device, and after seeing the few reviews I must agree with your overall assessment. At one time I considered the Axon 7 the very best smartphone you could buy for the price. The ability to run custom ROMs made the purchase all the more better. It boggles the $%&^%* mind how ZTE could change the strengths of the Axon 7 (audio dept) and come up with this piece of garbage. They added a stupid notch, and copied the placement of the cameras on the back, when the Axon 7 had a very pleasing and unique look. Well their loss, maybe the phone will sell well in China and a few select markets, but I can see it won't get the sales that the Axon 7 got globally. Very sad!
I doubt it will sell well at all in China...they have next to no presence in China, oddly. A few years ago, you could find them in the street phone shops, but not in the past year or so.... completely gone.
I figured they'd decided to concentrate on western markets like the USA and Europe... ROFL.
They are calling it a "gaming phone". hmm...two speakers down at one end of the screen aren't really going to immerse you when playing games.
Iinm, one is at the top on the front and the other is on the bottom.

sorry, seems I got it mixed with the Xiaomi Mi MIX INFLUX, although I've seen several of the Axon9 intro videos, and can't clearly pick out a bottom speaker slot, but one at the top.
Looking at the price, it is definitely not a true successor to the Axon 7, and if they listened to user feedback, they would not have put such a big notch on the device with extra space used when not needed.
I was a huge supporter of ZTE and the Axon 7. I was completely convinced Axon 9 would be amazing. but when i saw no US version and no dual stereo speakers, i gave One Plus a shot with the One Plus 6t. they finally got Verizon certification with the 6t, something Zte never did on axon 7.on OP6t, there is a mod to use the earpiece speaker as a second speaker that is awesome. its still not as good as the axon 7 was on stock with Dolby, Dual front speakers and dedicated DAC, but honestly, im glad i didnt keep waiting on ZTE to get their game together. i still use both of my axon 7 for media, but the a2017u was end of the line for me and ZTE.
ZTE Support
Ich am very glad, too see, that No one Support Thema axon 9, i have bought the Phone for 479€, anderen i think it ist Not so bad.
But the Support, ist,.....
The Phone hast good Specs, ip68, extendable

Why Do Not Support this device?
The Axon 9 has a 130 degree ultra wide angle lens which is one of the most underrated features in today's smartphones in my opinion. What alternatives are there with such a lense? The only alternative I know is is the Huawei Mate 20 which features a 104 degree lens. Most phones only have a 77 degree lens.

I never owned a OnePlus or Xiaomi phone before. Im currently rocking a Galaxy S7 but it got very slow and battery life sucks.
Which one should I get? How long do OnePlus/Xiaomi support their devices with Android updates?
pros for Xiaomi Mi 8:
- better screen (non-pentile matrix, HDR, 600 nits)
- probably better camera (dxomark score)
- cheaper than OP6 (~100 USD cheaper with import taxes etc.)
pros for OP6:
- probably faster UI/navigation speed
- smaller notch
- almost stock Android
- headphone jack (but not important to me)
If you have more arguments for OP6 or the Mi 8, please comment.
Looking to buy in the next 2 months.
I would say, if the Mi 8 got USB 3.1 support that is the device I will choose (op6 does not).
And for the OS I don't worry too much, since i'll flash them anyway
I have most of the oneplus devices, but the biggest bummer of them all is no USB 3.1 support.
Mi 8 got IMX363 Camera sensor with 1.8 aperture and 1.4um pixel size which have the same spec as Pixel 2 camera. I think it would have better Google Camera Mod potential than Oneplus 6.
Oneplus 6 got GCam support too, but as it got a smaller pixel size sensor, I think the image quality will not as good as Mi 8 when they both running GCam Mod.
Better camera, better screen, 20 times better front camera, better gps, better speaker (OP6 is unreal bad/can't be better) and cheaper.

Slightly off topic here... But what's the difference between a non-pentile and a pentile matrix?
@mariogrip
why is that so important ? I only plug my phone to USB when I need to charge it.
@Klanac89
Have you heard the OP6 speaker in person? Does the Mi 8 have dual speakers? Maybe there will be a soundmod in the future to support dualmod speakers.
@TheInfiniteAndroid
you should read this article on XDA: https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6-display-analysis-compared-oneplus-5t/
It does not matter because my 100 and 200€ devices have much better sound than the OP6. In other word you will think "wtf is this" and "there is nomwqy to find cheaper speakers". I was really shocked.

Agree. I returned my Oneplus 6 because of the speaker too. Comparing with my Mate 10, it is just unacceptable.
Volume is way too low, if you push all the way up the volume, it is still not loud enough and the sound starting to distort too.
Vibration is weak too, combine with low volume speaker means lots of miss call.
Xiaomi wins.
Disadvantages OP6:
- Weak Speaker (Mi 8 speakers haven't been tested but are hopefully good in sacrifice of the HP-Jack)
- VoLTE not everywhere in world
- Reported bad telephone quality (maybe SW-Update will help)
Only advantage of the OP6 is the smaller notch.
The phones are pretty similiar, but Xiaomi is a bit better and compensates the weaknesses of the OP.

I have no idea about MIX 3 as we have very limited information at the moment.
If it got similar design as the previous model, I think I would not pick the MIX as I don't want to turn my phone up side down every time I try to take a selfie.
Every MIX series phone got very poor front camera quality too.

Snapdragon 636
64GB storage
6GB RAM
3,300mah battery

Seems like a typical 2018 device tbh...

Will it be a wise move to switch from Nokia 7 plus to Poco F1 (8GB+128GB version)??
I am quite confused as I have always been a big fan of Nokia (my first device was Nokia 1100 apart from which I have been Nokia Lumia 1320 for last four years & now 7 plus).
I also used Xiaomi Mi A1 and I like the kind of package Xiaomi offers at a very aggressive price.
I know the build quality of Poco F1 cant match the sturdy build quality of Nokia 7 plus, but it outruns 7 plus at all other aspects like the processor, RAM, clock speed, GPU etc.
I know Poco Fi doesn't have NFC. But I do not need it anyway.
Can someone please tell me if there is actually a quality difference in between Nokia and Xiaomi/OnePlus? Or if the new HMD owned Nokia is as good as Xiaomi or OnePlus (as both Nokia and Xiaomi devices are made by Foxconn)?
I would say no. Poco F1 has no NFC and no Android One.
Their service sucks.

Not only is not an Android One device, but comes with MIUI on top of Android.
Xiaomi had trouble to update to Android 8.1 their Android One phones also, so its mainly software and security updates vs power.
Same story with OnePlus.
More about it here - https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_pocophone_f1-review-1808p6.php
Why would you go from 7 plus to poco f1?
Sure, poco have much better cpu and gpu, but still its not enough not to even consider to upgrade especially when you will not see that much difference.
I would consider poco only if you want to play with the custom roms.

Poco f1 is good for secondary phone, Its cheap.
Thank you, everyone. I eventually cancelled my order after giving it a lot of thought. You guys are right. First, their service centres suck (I know from my personal experience. Though I am not sure about HMD service centres as well). Second, I am not a gamer. I only have one game installed (Football Strike by MiniClip) but I hardly play that one as well. Third, the build and display quality of N7+ is just mind-blowing. Fourth, fast OTA updates. As being an AndroidOne device, we will get monthly security updates from Google and probably Android Pie by the end of September (and I saw the kind of improvement that Android Pie brings).
But here are few things that I don't like about Nokia 7 plus.
1. The resell value of Nokia devices are very less. I checked to see how is the resell value of Nokia 7 plus. And to my surprise, the response was pretty bad. I hardly got anyone who was interested. Even the one or two people who contacted me was not ready to pay more than INR.13,000 which is half of the price I spent on the device (INR.25,999). The worst part is, the device is not even a month old. Surprisingly, I got a very good price on my Xiaomi Mi A1 which I used for 10 months. My inbox was overflooded with buyer's messages. Even the shopkeeper from where I bought my Nokia 7 plus admitted that Nokia devices don't have resell value. If my device value comes down to half within just 1 month, I don't know how much will I get after a year or so.
2. Lack of custom ROMs/Kernels. I don't know why Nokia is still not allowing us to unlock the bootloader. Even though I had to pay for unlocking the bootloader, I still can't do anything with it except for rooting.
3. Lack of back cover and screen guard. I know there are a lot of screen guards and back covers available for Nokia 7 plus, but none of them are of good quality. I really want Spigen to make a back cover for N7+
4. With all due respect to the legacy of Nokia, I still feel Nokia devices are a bit overpriced (especially Nokia 7 plus). I understand the build quality is of top class. But still, I would say they are charging us quite a high price compared to what they are offering. They need to understand, even though the Nokia legacy is still alive, but people now want more VFM products. HMD Global needs to first concentrate on what are offering against the price they are charging. If the ratio is not proportional, people will eventually turn their head away from Nokia because now they have a lot of choices. It's not like 2000 where people used to purchase Nokia devices regardless of what amount they used to charge.
I would recommend to spend a little bit more and get the OnePlus 6. It checked all the boxes according to your needs.
although not have AndroidOne, BUT:
- support ProjectTrebble
- support officialy UNLOCKING bootloader
- officialy statement that unlocking NOT Void warranty
- officialy saying "try custom ROM, try GSI(GenericSystemImage)"
- with already released kernel sources
i too think about switch from N7+ right due to above... although N7+ isnicer and better manufactory, but HMD boycott community
The Poco has DRM issues so you can't watch netflix etc on HD. The so called stereo speakers are bad. You will have issues with call quality due to bad earpiece speaker. You could spend a bit more and get the Oneplus 6 for good hardware and that Oxygen OS <3.
All in all it's your decision.

The cons for this phone start at 11:00.
just wait , we have good dev support for n7+ and it will get bigger through time
I switched from Poco F1 to Nokia 7 Plus, Why?
-Multitouch issue - Poco F1 has a severe multitouch issue that the company is not telling if is a hardware problem or a software bug and the problem seems to be in most of Indian variants.
-Software Updates: Xiaomi is a well known name for not providing good updates and on time and if your phone runs on MIUI then it's total ****.
-Customer support: most laughable aspect of Xiaomi.
Reviewers are probably paid.
I won't buy cheap phones ever, after what Xiaomi did to me, wait for OnePlus instead and always buy phones after few months.
Buy a reliable and expensive product but cheap things like Poco.

Is problem with waiting, if many good developers ignoring/selling Nokia 7 Plus, because not possibly (officialy) unlock bootloader... this is really STUPID step from HMD that stop/slow growing of developers and powerusers community...
Is here two petition about unlocking bootloader:
https://www.change.org/p/hmd-global...to-unlock-the-bootloader-of-our-nokia-handset (actually 2422 sign)
https://community.phones.nokia.com/support/discussions/topics/7000024502 (actually 170 sign/like and 388 comments (+many (~50-100) comments deleted by Moderator)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-7-plus/how-to/petition-possibility-to-unlock-t3788953 (xda thread)
and from MHD is ZERO, repeat... ZERO reaction... only 1 reaction in nokia forum thread is from Laura about "stop vulgarism"
Me lost patience and before some day buy unoficialy signature file for unlocking, but this is not global solution, many people don't want in principle pay for having root/admin account for device which buyed and/or send IMEI/SN of his phone to 3rd people... Only positive is that is really not need have Customs N7+ ROMs, because with Project Treble is here GSI (Generic System Image)...
Hello guys ,
So i was currently thinking of upgrading my oneplus 3
But i couldn't settle on a certain phone , the only 2 phones in my mind would be the oneplus 7 pro and Samsung galaxy s10 plus since both cost the same where i live , let me know what you think guys
I am going to wait for the Pixel 4 and then make a decision..
I would choose the 7 Pro over the S10 Plus for its VFM and screen!
The s10's price is diving so you may be able to pick up a bargain. Depends on your criteria.

The S10 plus is a really great phone but i keep getting pulled away due to the below points
1. Touch wiz and the history of updates
2. Developer community always better on one plus devices
3. The notchless screen on the oneplus 7 pro makes it look much appealing the s10 plus screen .

I get your point. Samsung is refining oneui to bring it closer to stock android and is increasing update supports for it's flagships, according to latest reports and that's good enough for me.
Oneplus phones surely has more community support, but nowadays phones with stock roms has got so much better that the idea of installing custom roms is becoming less tempting.
The 7 Pro may look more appealing because of it's all screen design, but I still have some reservations about the pop up camera with regards to how long it will remain functional as a moving part.
I'm not trying to convince you as to why the s10 plus is a better phone then the 7 Pro because both phones are great in their own way, I'm just sharing my personal reason why I'm going to get the s10 plus as my next phone.

Personally I'm keeping my op3 as long as it's working and not struggling with doing anything. However of it were to die tomorrow I'd be looking at he op7 pro, the Xiaomi black shark 2, or the oppo Reno 10x zoom
Take a look at Xiaomi Mi 9
Zenfone 6 since it will officially receive lineage os. I don't like the size of the phone and just 18W charging but it has the greatest battery life.
If the s10e becomes cheaper and receives lineage os, I'll gladly opt for it.

You have the budget for the S10, so I don't see why you can't buy the Pixel
Right now in India, the smaller pixel 3 is priced lower than the s10. I don't know how much it is in your country.
Pretty sure the smaller pixel 4 variant will be around the same price range.
I sure as hell won't buy a device with a notch and no headphone jack. I am at minority here but those are my requirements for now.
Redmi K20 Pro and Zenfone 6Z are top contenders for my money (I don't want to go back to IPS LCD but might have to). OnePlus phones are naturally out because they decided to "follow trend" and removed headphone jack. OP3 is working fine for my usage and i don't need the best camera, an average camera will do for me so no appeal of Pixel 4 to me at all. So for now, yeah, not many options, K20 pro is choice 1, zenfone 6z being 2nd.
I'm thinking about OP6 as it's the last OP with headphone Jack and notification LED. I know the notch isn't great but for me, small notch + OLED > LCD.
OP7, not the pro version because I definitely do not want a phone with moving parts. No Samsung, I have nothing with the brand...
But as others said before, will keep using my OP3T as long as possible. Fast, two days of battery life, great camera and straight forward; still did not find a good reason for making a switch. ..
I'd buy an iPhone, currently using oneplus 3, lasted for 2years. Still snappy with good battery backup.
Hi everyone,
I want to buy a smartphone - but stuck between Op 7 or K20 pro ? Can't make my mind - which one should I buy ?
Any suggestion/ advice will be highly appreciated.
They are pretty similar. Run on the same platform, CPU, GPU. Both AMOLED, same resolution.
The K20pro / 9Tpro has an audio jack, OP7 does not.
OP7 has stereo speakers, K20p/9Tp does not.
The K20pro / 9Tpro has FM radio, OP7 does not.
I believe the OP7 has OIS on the main camera, K20pro/9Tpro does not.
The OP7 has a (small) notch in the screen. The K20pro/9Tpro has a popup front facing camera.
K20pro/9Tpro has a somewhat bigger battery.
For me personally, the popup cam is not a problem because I don't use face-unlock or take selfies, and having a full notch-less display is very nice.
I imagine that if you're the kind of person that uses the front facing camera a lot, the popup camera becomes annoying pretty fast. (but I don't know because I'm not that person)
FM radio is a feature I really like to have, but I'm probably alone in that one.

Thanks mate for your detailed comparison .
I don't use face-unlock and selfies like you. So it 'll not be any issue for me. Though I don't like Pop-Up camera. But I really like stereo speakers.
BTW, how's the battery life of K20 pro ?
OP7 has almost no development - unlike the K 20 Pro.
But I really don't like the bootloader unlocking procedure of Xiaomi. It's really annoying (really)to me.
Would you throw some lights on the multi-media experiences of K20 Pro - 3.5 mm audio quality, watching video/movie experience etc.? Really it's very important to me.
Which one would be better for multi-media between these two ?
Thank you once again for your reply.
K20 Pro has a HiFi DAC built-in. It's 24 bits / 192 KHz.
So it has the ability to play High Definition audio.
You don't really need to unlock the bootloader unless you really need root for something or actually want to change ROMs.
I used the Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot tool to disable apps that I don't use. MIUI isn't that bad, for now at least.
I was confused about that last few days, finally bought k20 pro, for 3.5 mm audio jack and price difference. audio, movies and camera are great.

I am probably not the best judge. I don't have an OP7, have only used this device (European 9Tpro) for under 2 weeks now and my previous phone was almost 5 years old. To me, watching video on the notch-less OLED and listening through simple wired earphones is very good.
Battery life is good. In normal day to day use when I'm not traveling, I can charge it every 2 days. In heavy use it will still last a full day easy. I have everything on all the time (wifi, sync, location, bluetooth, ambient display).
I plan to keep mine stock and locked for at least the first month, but yes from what I read on these forums, unlocking and flashing is more cumbersome and has more pitfalls than I'm used to from HTC devices.
My previous phone was OP7.
k20pro 256gb + 27watt charger costs less than Op7. So price wise this is a win.
Face unlock is a breeze in Op7. Miss that comfort on k20 pro. Though always on fingerprint is good & serves the purpose.
4000 mah battery & miui battery management works wonders. Always end up with 30+ at the end of the day. On Op7, it would be about less than 20% by the end of the day.
Oxygen os is really clean. But it lacks serious customisation. Miui is eyecandy & won't get boring. This is probably the only factor for me to switch from op7.
Also, since op7 was just a minor upgrade from 6T, better to wait for Op7t (with 90hz).
But beware of your purchase now, the price of K20PRO will see drop Faster than op7 in very short period of time. (Already price cut of Rs 2000 announced in India (flipkart))
U should also check the asus rog 2 if u are not bothered by large bezels

Also, since op7 was just a minor upgrade from 6T, better to wait for Op7t (with 90hz).
But beware of your purchase now, the price of K20PRO will see drop Faster than op7 in very short period of time. (Already price cut of Rs 2000 announced in India (flipkart))

Excellent comparison. :good:
Really appreciate .
Totally agree with you - OP7 is a minor upgrade from 6T. And Miui is eyecandy and has more customisations.
BTW, the same question I want to ask you - Are satisfied by switching from OP7 to Redmi K20 Pro ?

K20 Pro has a HiFi DAC built-in. It's 24 bits / 192 KHz.
So it has the ability to play High Definition audio.
You don't really need to unlock the bootloader unless you really need root for something or actually want to change ROMs.
I used the Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot tool to disable apps that I don't use. MIUI isn't that bad, for now at least.

Thanks for sharing the most important feature - audio quality of K20 Pro.
What's your feedback about the headphone audio quality of K20 Pro?
Is it really awesome or average ?
I like to use rooted device. And that's why I don't like Xiaomi for their bootloader unlocking policy.
Appreciate your ADB/Fastboot procedure for deblauting.
BTW, I had some bad experiences with RN7 Pro - MTP incompatibility. My Windows PC can't recognized RN7 Pro and can't install the drivers. And finally I'd to sale RN7 Pro due to this issue. Is there any MTP/ Driver issue with K20 Pro ?
:good:
if op7 has no notch i would have gotten it to try this oxygen os ,coming from pocophone which is mine spare phone now ,glad i dont to face with a notch all day , to me op7 just look like a 6t , by the way i have no issue connecting mine pc (win 7) to k20 pro
Yes, i really am enjoying the k20 pro. Yesterday, the android 10 OTA was received. So that also is covered.
And miui 11 is on the way by end of the year.
Btw, if u are looking for Op7T for the 90hz display, K20PRO can also reach around 80hz thru mods. Both are 1080 oled panels.
On a related note, asus rog 2 has got some Insane specs for a sweet price (128/8 ) Rs 38k.
K20pro is going to be sold for less then 24999 during the sale season... That's a huge price drop for such a new device and it's cheating for those who bought this device from the start.....

Nope Max drop will be ₹3500 if you are taking into account the initial ₹2000 into account. Even in current sale a minimum card discount is going to be there for atleast ₹1500. As a loyalist I feel that companies should atleast hold onto their prices for 6 months man. If you ever want to resell your device within this timefram now you will face a huge challenge trying to resell. Not that I would be doing that. Its about percieved difference of going from Base bottom Budget Brand to a Premium Brand... They went back to being a budget only Brand with this move. Thats really Bad. I would gladly buy their Premium range of Phones of the Mi Series(I owned a MI3 and Mi5) But they don't release them here in India anymore..
If a Brand wants to induce a loyalty in its customer base they should be prepared to be loyal in return. This doesnt feel like loyalty..

probably mi 9 pro is out , they wants to clear stocks , anyway their mi series doesnt hold the price well
Just to let you know that I've purchased a OnePlus 8 to replace my OP5, which is still going strong.
Having compared the two, there's not actually that much difference in real world experiences apart from the cameras - which are a class apart.
Was it worth it? Probably not. But I needed something to occupy me in these times.

I was thinking of doing it but will go for pixel 5 or 8t pro after completing full cycle of updates till Android 10 on op5

Seriously with this new overpriced prices OnePlus 8 branch is not good. Not really big difference with 7T Pro, more expensive, more big, same design and always a photo quality under others brand like Samsung, Apple, Google, Huawei.
I prefer now look arround Realme x50 Pro
https://www.realme.com/eu/realme-x50-pro
Price must be arround 600/679 $ for 8Go/128 Go Internal !
Deleted after launch of the device
I ordered my OnePlus 8 Pro few days ago, still waiting for it sadly ? I know it's overpriced and I should buy 7T pro and still be enjoying it, and it'll serve me well as was my 5T for almost past 2 years, but I decided that I have to go for the best this time, and I like OOS too much to settle on it using Samsung or Huawei device, so I've chosen 8 pro, and I'm so excited to see this screen for the first time. Price is high because it's a real flagship deal this time, like the other manufacturers. I know company have to make money, they already lost so much because of this stupid covid quarantine thing, they have to wait with release for month, and it's also in the price of the end product, and I'm fine with it, cause I'm buying, imo the best phone in the market rn.

Overpriced: true
iPhone SE : flagship processor, flagship display, flagship camera. $400
OnePlus 8: flagship processor, no flagship display, no flagship camera. 699 (300$ just for design is no justification) (flagship is respective company's flagship devices)

iPhone SE don't have flagship processor because they didn't include the A1 chip, and it's a little slower compared to iPhone 11. It's same chip, right, but they made few cuts here and there.
It also don't have flagship display, and flagship camera. Display is same as iPhone 8, and the camera have only one lense, and Apple's flagships have three lenses, so no flagship specs.
It's cheaper because they want more users for their cloud and services.
OnePlus 8 is like lite version of real flagship, and iPhone SE is just a middle range phone for people who don't need flagship-like device, it's targeted to other types of people.

I agree to you, OOS is great and Pixel also. You can be happy, only the price is the bad point for 8 Pro, it's a good device. And for the iPhone Se, above all, it's only a 4.7" lol
7T is better than 8 in camera department, moreover it has in aperture of 1.6 for the main camera
Very hard to me to justify upgrading my OP5 right now. I usually upgrade phones after 18-24 months out of necessity, but I'm on month 26 with this now with no upgrade plans.
Screen size, performance, Android version etc are all still perfect for me, never lacking.
Camera might be the only reason, but it's good enough for me now.
I'm EXACTLY in the same boat! The only other thing that might need attention is the battery. But with sockets never too far away, I can easily overlook the issue.
