I recently saw that the camera does not over sharpens the photos anymore, which is something that I personally liked. Is there a way to get it back?
Is there any way how to do it? ?

I see it clearly with the pictures I take, mostly on clouds. I had a few updates since I got the phone and the oversharpening is clearly gone...
Which firmware version you on?

What's new in 156? I'm still on 131
Is 156 different from my 152 or is it other name on different countries? (I still have oversharpening)
I reset my phone and now it's back... I haven't done that since an update... Something must've happened. Anyway, thanks!
i read from build 152 and up, that master AI is disabled by default, which then oversharpening of the images won't be done, since AI isn't activated. It can be enabled/disabled via camera settings from build 152.
It was enabled by default for me when i got 152.

that's because it was enabled before 152 build, if you did a fresh install of 152 then it will be disabled by default. Only new installation/factory reset will put it to disabled automaticly.
Hey, I want to buy a P20 Pro instead of S9 (not Plus) but the oversharpning and the week cpu... I'm not sure. But when it is solved, I thing i will go for it. So, is it solved with the new firmware?
There is still some sharpening applied even when AI is disabled. But what troubles me more is the aggressive noise reduction and heavy jpeg compression, it takes away so much of the details this camera is capable of producing.
/ Magnus
Some sharpening is OK. Every raw needs to be edited to generate a jpeg. It would be great if you can adjust this process like you can do on a dslr. Sharpness, Saturation, denoise, compression… none, low, mid, high, extreme. On the examples which I saw, I guess they use something between high and extreme. Low would be nice, mid also OK.
Maybe we should contact Huawei "aggressively" for a feature request.
@Magnus3D, would you buy the phone again and is the camera worth the drawbacks?
Every device has it's drawbacks, and as most of us know even the P20 Pro. But to answer your question, yes i would not hesitate to buy the P20 Pro again because all of it's advantages outweighs it's disadvantages.

Even if you cant unlock the bootloader and huawei stops updating their phones? That means you cant flash any custom roms and the device is stuck on the last official rom released.
Yup, it doesn't matter that much for me. If those are important for you then get another device which fills your specific needs and requirements.

Hi All,
Newbie here so please be gentle with me, love the look of this fourm so thought I would join in!
I purchased the Nokia 7 Plus here in the UK (TA-1055 model) about a week ago and I am very happy with it, I do have a few questions tho...
What does it mean by unlocking the bootloader? what does this do and what can you do once you have done this?
Is it really worth using the google camera app instead of the stock Nokia camera app?
Other tips on getting more battery life (not that I run out, just curious as to what settings you can change)
Also I am not getting the notification dots come up on any apps and the notification dot settings is set to on
Look forward to hearing your wise words!
I have the same model.
Unlocking bootloader is necessary to make root access workable and change ROMs etc. If you don't know what that means then don't bother with it
Yes it's really worth to use Google Camera app for normal photos (not videos). The difference is unbelievable. Use APK and settings from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76834155&postcount=267
Don't know how you can improve battery life (never bother with this, Android does this automatically) and get your notification dots working (notification dots need special permissions if you use another launcher).

Hi mate,
Thanks for your reply, dont think I will bother with the bootloader stuff as sounds too complicated for me lol.
Ok thats great will try that camera app! and how come dont use it for videos? I have just upgraded to this phone from a Moto G4+ and was seriously considering swapping this for a Moto G6 plus but really want to give this phone a chance! as i do like it!
And as for notification dots I managed to sort that in the special permissions settings by turning on launcher 3!
Video will not work well with Pixel camera because mainly of sound. The Nokia uses a special sound system with several mics called Ozo Sound. So it's best to use it with the Nokia camera itself.
Ok thanks, and is the sound quality noticeable when playing the video back on the phone or on a pc?
And not sure if this is something I can change in settings but the gcam won't zoom in when I want to take a photo is this right?
I think noticeable on both.
There is no good zoom in gcam because there is no Google phone camera with an optical zoom or second lens (so no support for second lens).

I installed the camera app. But it shows app is not installed. And the camera app which was already present was not opening too. Any suggestions? I'm running on 8.1.0 stock rom with August security patches.
Also can I have stock camera working which has effects like mint, maze and others?

I'd suggest you do a factory reset, as it sounds like there are problems with your system. I've never used any of those effects and don't know if they are available or not. Good luck.

I'm talking about the effects that are shown in the screenshot.
Also I have a complaint about the portrait mode on my rear camera. The pictures are little dull. Again don't get me wrong I'm only talking about the portrait shots. Everything except that is working like charm. ?
I think mi A1 had better portrait shots.

Keep in mind the Mi A1 had different lenses than the A2 does. I'd bet the A1 software is exactly what the A2 is running. So the app is probably tweaked for the A1 (and other of the xiaomi line up).
The A2 is different than other phones in that the aperture of the 2 back cameras is f1.75, where the A1 has f2.2 and the 2x is f2.6. Those are **very** different than the A2.
I'd bet (hope anyway) that Xiaomi tweaks a version of the app for the A2. AND they enable cam2API and EIS! I'm sure many are disappointed in the effort needed to make those work, if you dare (I don't want a permanently rooted phone, I'd like to get the updates).

Can anyone please tell me what's the difference between the current ( EMUI 9.1) camera version and this one? Does it offer 50x zo etc?
Only 10x zoom max with last fw. Apparently they only let the same camera do 30x zoom on the Mate 20 series. Probably artificial limitation to make the newer phone more appealing...
Someone knows what's more in the version 9.1.0.319 and 9.1.0.323

Need to tell you all I`ve got CLT-L29 with 9.1.0.328 - and the camera got Terrible! Night-mode is atrocious, and day-time shooting worsened. Night mode now makes flat, ugly, no-life-basic photos (doesn`t matter if vivid or whatever colour mode is used), day-time pictures are dark, with worse dynamic range then before. I tried everything to go back to previous version - not possible in my experience. If anyone succeeded in downgrading the camera app version, or installing an older one, PLEASE let me know how. My phone is not rooted - cant find a way to unlock the bootloader. (I read about a possible way with disassembling the phone, but I wouldn`t do that to it).
Cheers,
P.S. - If you have a P20 Pro with older android version - do not update! - it will destroy your camera (basically the only thing you bought the phone for).
I have no issue with 328 firmware emui 9.1 and the cam, how I am in 345 firmware with a new version of camera app, working fine, you can make a factory reset or simply reset the camera app settings

You haven`t noticed. They made it gradually worse - with 8.1 it was so much better in regards of color depth, dynamic range, contrast setting, night mode contrast, light sensitivity - everything, by the time they made 9.1... it is nothing of the kind. BTW this issue is noted, A1 representative I spoke to, said Huawei were "aware" of the night-mode problem, and "wold fix it" in the next generation of updates. But I as a very keen photo-maniac, who bought this phone precisely for the camera, noticed it getting worse by every update, so I don`t truly believe they will fix it. When with 8.1 p20pro was hands down the low-light monster and had outstanding color depth, which the p30pro couldn`t reach because it lacks the monochrome camera (same goes for the nigh-mode). So even if they do something about the night-mode in future updates, for it would be made so that the camera will be smudged to produce p30pro-like (but blurrier) photos.
Otherwise - I made factory reset, probably 10 times since then, even found a way to delete the camera app with adb run tool, installed the latest version from apk-mirror - still the same (of course). Then I factory reset the phone again and again and again...
So please, when citing me, please cite me only if you found a way to answer my query and you personally managed to install a workingly-run 8.1 camera version, please. Thank you so much for your understanding and willingness to help!
Cheers!

Interesting. What is your p20p model: C432 or C7..?
I answer you in the right way with the typical issues with the software and the cam, I don't care how many times you made factory reset, I see improvements in the cam with emui9.1, maybe your cam or phone is damage, or whatever,

Hi All,
Phone : Nokia 8 Sirocco
I used to have a working Google cam mod on my phone until the Andriod 10. Now none of the mods I install works! It just crashes.
Does anyone know which works on this!?
Yes, me too... Please, help !
With killercam v1, just video work...
HAL3 is disabled
Hello,
It seems that HAL3 support for Camera is missing from the Android 10 build. I've send an email to Nokia support today. Until it is fixed, and you(generally speaking) are still on Android 9, and use Gcam mod, stay away from the update.
I hope problem with GCam will be resolved soon.
They disabled Raw with this Android 10 update.
We paid premium so we could have less quality camera, and camera app options than mid-range Nokia's ?
Remember, no Lightroom raw capture and edit possible either.
Same here, I have tried lots of Gcams and all not working, except the stock one from Play Store, but are missing important feature like night mode....

The posted solution results in a working GCam but I would not agree that HDR works. Yes, the menu is active and you can toggle the feature on but there is no difference in the photos at all (at least to my eye). I suppose that the app is taking normal snaps without HDR, regardless of the chosen mode.

I really hope MHD fixes it, if not, it was my last Nokia. I understand if you have to root a budget phone. But if I pay close to premium price, I also expect the software to work, without me touching it.
No HDR, broken glance screen, broken play store, increased battery drainage, worse wifi connection. It went from a phone I was really happy with, to a phone that pisses me off every day.
Rant end. Thanks for the suggestion but I'm gonna wait. Have a nice day!

I wanna know the method you used to unlock it ?
I am gonna try to enable the RAW Capture
I have unlocked it through Hikari Calyx. I have paid 9$ (41 Ron). He accessed my PC through Team Viewer and used a virtual USB to attach a smartcard. With that he reflashed my phone with android 9 (but you can choose 8 also) and unlocked the BL.
Everything was done within 24 hours.
This was my first phone with a unlockable BL and i have missed a lot having root on my phone. Now with root is like i'm having a new phone
P.s. : After unlocking the BL you can OTA upgrade to 10 if you wish but i do not see the reason. 9 has everything and none of the issues of 10.
With 10 google disabled ACR functionality.
HDR api disabled by HMB
Huge battery drain (do not know the reason)
A2dp issues
Etc..
Although with root you can fix all the issues i rather not have them in the first place. Therefore i will stay on 9 at least until a good stable 10 comes out of HMD global.
I've tried quite a few gcam ports and I've found this version to be the best. The only issue I've found is the preview image freezes when using selfie night mode. It still takes a picture ok just the preview image freezes. It seems to be a common issue across all the ports I've tried.
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/MGC_7.3.020_Parrot043_V5.apk
Yep, been using this one also. Big improvement over the stock camera app!
Default app likes to just mesh colours together and makes it look pretty bad and blurry, but this port makes photos have much more detail.
I've just tried the Parrot043_v7 version and can confirm that night mode using selfie camera works perfectly on this one. There are a lot more options in the settings menu also regarding white balance and astrophotography etc.

Yes you are right, it does still freeze. It's really strange, in good lighting the front camera won't freeze when switched into night mode which is why I thought it worked, I was in a lit room at the time. If the environment is darker, the front camera preview still freezes like it always did.
Does the GCAM port give you the option of 1080/60fps for video?
I don't have the phone yet so am not even sure what the stock camera app options are.
Thanks

Well, the port I use does have a 60fps option, but the actual video itself doesn't look that smooth.
I'm sure another port will pop up soon enough with proper support (as this one has the option to enable 4k, but really it bumps it up from 720p to 1080p).
Thanks for that, it's good to know as I purchased it online assuming it would have the capability.
I was looking at other phones with the 665 SOC like the Xiaomi Note 8t and that has the 1080/60fps option in the stock camera app whereas Oppo doesn't for some reason.

I just checked the Oppo website and it doesn't look like the camera supports 60fps https://www.oppo.com/au/smartphone-a52/specs/
Although not sure if a Gcam port can "enable" it down the track.
I realised that after I purchased it of course
The Xiaomi Note 8t added 60fps after an update so it wasn't there initially either, maybe Oppo will do the same.
GCAM sounds way better anyway so hopefully the 60fps smoothness issue gets sorted.

Haha, such is the nature of the bargain priced beast, too good to pass up so you buy it on a whim!
But yes I'm sure there'll be a Gcam port popping up to solve the issue soon enough.
Plus it launched with Android 10, bound to be updated like the Xiaomi
I believe this port works best along with Mar 2020 config file which is also in the config folder
although it's not the most recent, it's most compatible, feel free to tweak settings according to your preference if anything breaks just load the xml file.

use the mar 2020 configuration file, the only bug with this is in slo mo videos where if you do 1/8 mode, it may not work properly so you have to stop recording and restart recording then it works.
all other ports have white dot (luma) noise on front cam and fixing it by library tweaks makes textures loose detail and sharpness, and view finder hangs in certain modes.

I believe this port works best along with Mar 2020 config file which is also in the config folder

This one looks a bit nicer than the one I've been using, pictures seem less dull, thanks!

I've tried quite a few gcam ports and I've found this version to be the best. The only issue I've found is the preview image freezes when using selfie night mode. It still takes a picture ok just the preview image freezes. It seems to be a common issue across all the ports I've tried.
