Brushed Metal Galaxy Note 4 910F Mod - Galaxy Note 4 General

My Note 4 was scratched up from all the accident drops so I decided to sand off all the black paint to give the phone a brushed stainless metal look.
Results are attached to this post. Below I'll decribe how I did it.
Industrial look: (quick, but rough)
Basically I used 100 grit sandpaper and quickly sanded it down, probably took 5 min since the sandpaper was rough.
However, I ended up reshaping the phone, its a lot more narrow now which fits in my hand better
Refined look:. (3 hours time estimate)
For those of you who wants a smooth finish i would recommend using a finer 400 grit paper and you could also use polish for that chrome look if you wanted.
Someone did this to their Gear S2 and it looks pretty cool.

Cheers, I really like the results, wanted to share. Please share any picture here if anyone else attempts this.

Nice. Worth the effort

Thanks a lot I also peel my note 4

I believe you might be able to use an Otterbox without the battery lid/door and cutting a rectangle in the rubber skin that goes under the outer shell. The problem is that the battery door routes the speaker audio along with the secondary mic and depresses a lid sensor switch. It may make more sense to buy a new battery door and modify it for use with the Otterbox. I already kinda wondered why the Otterbox wasn't made as a replacement battery door because it would have made it much less bulky.

Painted the trim on my nexus 7 black.

Used one of those elmers painting pens for pastic. For not taking apart my nexus it came out fairly well.
Got the idea after seeing that article about carphone warehouse listing a 32gb nexus and a galaxy nexus 2. the picture they had of a nexus had a black trim. went to walmart and bought the paint pen asap.

I'm at work. I'll post more pics when I get home.
Took some pics on my break. Going to redo it tonight now that I got some masking tape. I'll feel more confident getting closer to the screen.
just curious if using Gaffer tape would be easier. it's strong enough and it's removable

I would use a low-tack masking tape, gaffer tape (duct tape) would be far too adhesive IMO.
Transmitted from either Nexus7 - Tab2 - GT-N7000 - i9100
Gaff tape doesn't have the nasty adhesive of duct tape (until it gets old and dried out/dusty ). It would look all weird though because it's like a fabric.
I might have to do this to my nexus as well. Mainly because the silver paint chipped off a little bit on the top.

the elmers paint pen comes off pretty easy with your nail but stays on during regular use just fine. i've already stripped it to redo again tonight. beware though, you will run out of paint in the pen by the time your done.
Someone should attempt this using Plasti-Dip. If you don't know what it is, it's like spray paint, but it creates a rubbery layer over whatever you spray, and you can peel it off later if you don't like it. It's very popular DIY product for cars.
I did some googling and it looks like some people have already attempted using it on phones, usually battery covers and cases, but I think it should work fine for this, and I'd be very curious to see the results.

Looks great. That is the one cosmetic problem with the nexus 7 Imo.

Looks like my Nexus 7 I got at the Google I/O conference. The ones with the white backs they gave out also have black trims.
I think its funny the the pic they show on the N7 box shows one with a black trim not silver. Haha
Im tempted to try this, but first I want to do what another user posted and colour the X on the back in the Nexus Colours.
He used tape and it looked awesome.
Could be a nice little project its just buying a whole roll of coloured tape (For each colour = 4!) for a little strip is pointsless haha :/
Not bad Op. Time to get the guts together and do the same

I added another layer last night and now it looks even better. I may smooth down any rough spots and give it another layer tonight. Will post pics later.

I agree. The trim should have been black from the start, and aluminium or stainless steel painted black would have been great!

I wonder, can the silver trim be separated from the body? This would make changing it to black much easier.

Nice photos. Just wanted to ask how the rhinoshield feels in the hand, and how much bulk it adds to the device? Also do you really think it would do much in a drop as the product claims?

Well it's not bad at all it feels good in the hand. It's lighter then the adopted one and doesnt add too much bulk.
The adopted gives a little more grip. Maybe because it's satinized (dont know if it is the correct word) I mean "grainy"
This is my first phone with a bumper/case, never used.
I'm using the adopted one right now not for a particular reason, maybe because this one covers the back .
Both cases are good. The bumper could protect the phone from those breakneck falls? well I dont know why but Id say... it's close, more then the google one.
It gives me the feeling that its a good bumber to protect the phone, thats why its not so thin... "compromises"
nice pics I ordered the rhino bumper cuz the n6 didn't have any decent bumpers

Just got the rhinoshield, feels solid in hand, but disappointed at the buttons. Extremely hard to press and negates the double press of power for camera.
I agree on the camera. Could have been a great case. May keep our for protection while MTB and snowboarding.

Ya imm fix the power button issue easy
Just take the case off and paint a small dot on the inside of the power button with nail polish and few times til its hard hard and it will be more sensitive

Anyone used Luphie Case before?

I wanted an aluminum bumper but I figured it would still have wireless problems. I saw this case and was wondering if signal would drop and if it could fit most screen protectors.
Since it says signal pass-through I would assume you'd be ok.
But can I talk to these Chinese case manufacturers about putting stupid text on the cases. I don't need "wireless signal pass-through" or "high quality airframe aluminum" written on the item.

Yeah. I was thinking that too. It seems far too inexpensive to be excellent quality. I guess I'll pick one up and see.

I had one on my Note 4 which looks pretty similar.
They look nice but not very good quality the glass on the back of the case cracked from top to bottom and I didn't even drop it.
It literally must of just tapped something while in my pocket
Also it was impossible to get the spen out
& it impacted phone signal
Edit : this is the case I had

I probably used 4 or 5 of these on my Note 4 (they were only $7 - $8 on AliExpress) on my Note 4- the back glass on each cracked within a couple weeks of use.
Classy as hell on the plastic Note 4, but not worth the hassle.

Got the wireless charging mod today

So my wireless charging mod came in today and I love it! It works very well with all my charging pads and I love the way it feels on the phone. It makes the phone look and feel "whole". Plus the camera is inset just a little now which I like. Because before when you lay it down the camera was the first thing to touch. So this protects it a bit. I ordered mine straight from Motorola because I noticed some websites had some with slightly thicker dimensions "older models perhaps?" But I got it for $29.99 plus shipping. Not too bad.
are you able to use a case with this mod attached? I have the incipio case and it seems pretty snug with no mods, but i want this mod....

Not sure. The mod is pretty sturdy feeling and the screen shatterproof. I just put a screen protector on for scratches and roll with it. So for me I Don't really see any need to have a case. I never have been one to like cases. That's why I've always liked Motorola because their phones are physically tough.
How long does it take to get the battery completely full from almost completely empty with that mod?

Not sure. I haven't ran it all the way down and charged it wireless yet. But the wireless isn't as fast as the turbo plugin charger but quite as bit faster than a regular plugin charger.

i bought the lenovo aluminum bumper and it feels great. it was really hard to get on because i have a dbrand skin on the sides of my phone. but ALL mods work, some - like the wireless charger are harder to get off without taking off the case.
this is the bumper - worth every penny

I also bought this bumper and loved it initially. No more slippery edges around the phone and very cool looking and feel. However, the big issue with this bumper, to me, was the reduction of signal (from 5 bars down to 3 bars). It also affected the 4G Tx/Rx signals too. It did not affect Wifi signal that much though. Now, I switched to Verizon Two-Tones black color rubber bumper and love it too. No more reduction of phone signals, protects the edges of the phone and wireless charging mod works perfect too.

When I put in this rubber bumper on, my wireless charging mod was already installed. Bumper went in without any problem. I have not tried to take mod out so I don't know whether any obstruction between bottom of bumper and mod.

Yes, there is a "tab" in the bottom center of bumper. It does not block the bottom edge of mod, but rather it is very close to bottom edge of mod. This makes the mod to come out/going in a bit difficult.
