Hi guys,
I'm thinking of getting the 128GB version of 1+3T, but I'm not sure if it worths or not. I currently have 16GB of storage (Galaxy Note 2) and, maybe, this could be a lot of space for me (I'm a normal root user)
What do you think guys? Which version will you buy? Why?
Thanks,
Fran
I ordered the 128GB version yesterday. I previously had a GS5 with 16GB of storage. It was never enough. I always found myself deleting apps to make room for other apps. I went with 128GB mainly because it only costs $40 extra. But i hope you already ordered yours. I looked online and the 128GB is currently out of stock. So depending on how long you would like to wait, 1+ may have already made your decision for you.
Go with 128. There isn't too much price difference and since you cannot use a SD Card it is the logical way to go.
I came from Note 4 also, but since they(note 2 and 4) do have sd card slot. I take that into account also, and minus some backup stuff. eg: I exclude the space taken by nand backup as I figure I can still do backup to the USB drive. This make the backup become offline also. And if you plan to merge phone and tablet, then take that into consideration as well. And after all that, I came to a conclusion that w/ 64GB, I won't have much space left to grow. Can't add big game and etc, so 128GB is the conclusion for me. Obviously I though about all this the day OP announce 3T w/ 128GB option, and thus I'm able to order it early. But apparently you don't have 128GB option now. I think you can still order it but you won't get it until January. I know it said 4 weeks, but seriously if it ship the week of x-mas you won't get it until after new year assuming 4 weeks is accurate.

Happens the same to me, I can't install too much apps (don't like to deal with SD cards, bad experiences).

I'm waiting for 28th (European version), probably, they have different stock reserved to Europe.
Somebody snag up the 3T yesterday in the Helsinki, There is another event on 11/24 at 03:02PM at 134 Oxford Street in London. Limited quantity of course. So you may not have to wait until 28th, depend on where you are.
I personally got the 64GB because I could never fill my 32GB devices with an additional 64GB sdcard...like never.
Go with what works for you.
Though, given how you do not change devices like your socks (Given by your Note 2), go with the 128GB...it will be a great investment for you. 128GB for me, will not be.
64gb version comes only on the soft gold ?
I got the 128gb. Don't think I'll ever use it but the price difference is worth it and I'll think it will help resale value.

Soft Gold can only be 64gb. Grey comes in both capacities
64 is plenty for me. I generally listen to music on cloud services (Spotify/Pandora/Google Music) with only my favorites saved to the device for trips and no service areas. Pictures is also a non issue, as you can upload to Google Photos for free unlimited storage (they keep anything 16MP without a reduction in quality, it seems). Everything else is apps and some documents or misc. stuff and I generally don't go app heavy.
128
Went with 128 GB since it wasn't that much price difference between 64 and 128 GB.
128gb for me. I like to transfer all my music to my phone and download a ton of apps.

Cloud storage is not exactly for everyone. Say for professional photographers, they can't exactly just store their photos on the cloud w/o giving up some rights.
I have a confusion...
This device does not support SD card, it's ok but if i do factory reset then what about my stored contents like music, movies ets.
Will they delete also??

Generally that stay the same. It's like they have separate partitions. Imagine a book(phone) have many chapters(partition). Say one chapter is call SYSTEM (Operating System), another chapter call DATA, another call SDCARD. When you do a factory reset, only stuff in the DATA chapter(partition) get wipe, everything else stay. Generally this means all the system settings, and application data get wiped, and everything else that store in the SDCARD, normally stuff like audio, pictures, video which stored there should stay as is. That said, think carefully contact info would get wipe but should also be backup in the google cloud also. But if you use 3rd party phone/contact/email app, they would be wiped also unless they have a cloud backup. So are the games/apps data too. This is one reason why people root their phone and use app like Titanium Back (root) to backup all their app data. Again, this is a general rule of thumb. Some apps/games do store their data on both. And if you are coming from a phone w/ removable card, then data location may store differently. Imagine an app say, some of the data stored in the partition call "externalSD", but since you moved to a phone w/ no externalSD, things get complicated. Hope this satisfy your curiosity.

I'm an amateur/hobbyist photographer also, while I don't shoot photos on the phone that does not means I won't store photos on the phone. Many pro will use their phone to showcase their photos also. So, some people may have a few gigs worth of photos on the phone. While yes, that would be extra copy on the phone, and could simply restore them on the phone, but that beside the phone. The device itself, whether that be phone or tablet should/need to have the photos stored locally and not online. And imagine videographers would even need more storage, even 128GB on the phone may not even be enough for them. Professional that store pictures on the free 3rd party cloud, generally mean they don't care, or simply ignorance about the right to the photos. And another issue is, if their works are not store locally, it means it may not be accessible when needed.
For me the 6gb ram variant is 300 euro and the 4Gb ram is 250 euro; I ordered the 6gb ram variant but I'm still thinking about whether I should cancel and get the 4GB instead. Is the 6Gb ram worth the price?
hello !
I went for the 4GB/32 model and am very happy with it. Upgraded from the Redmi 5 Plus and the A2 is fast as hell. In my country there is a 100 euro difference. I've looked around and saw that even the pixel 2 xl and samsung s9 have 4gb of ram and with stock android i'm sure that i won't have any bottlenecks. Also, I've made a habbit of changing phones after 12/18 months so I'm not worried.
It's my 3rd day using it, i have 0 complaints.

I'm waiting for the 128/6 GB EU variant. Amazon germany only has the 4/32 variant (not enough storage space for me). Hopefully they will have it soon on their website. At the moment I'm not sure if I should buy the phone from a chinese site (e.g. Banggood) or from Amazon. At the chinese site I save ~50€, but I only have one year warranty. In the EU seller's are forced to give 2 years of warranty AFAIK (but I'n not entirely sure).

I got the 6/128GB version for £280 from a UK seller. Should be here in the next few days.
Edit: It's here....and I like it already. Very smooth, no bloat and feels nice in the hand. No tested camera or anything else as still at work.

Why should it? You can leave more apps open. Depends a lot on how may apps you use at the same time and if those apps need to stay alive all the time.
All in all, more RAM means better multitasking but it will certainly not make the system faster. It may reduce app load times as they will be kept in memory longer but that's about it and only when you use a lot of apps at the same time.

It depends, more RAM help multi-tasking as reduces load times (at battery cost), but there are few apps memory hungry as Instagram and Facebook, those hardcore on Instagram would apretiate 6GB, also some web sites (web apps) are memory hungry, but in general 2GB extra wont make difference on common Android Apps even most games.

hi guys, I'm thinking of buying a note 9 but I'm very undecided whether to take the model with 6 gb of ram or the one with 8gb, what do you recommend? battery consumption changes between the two models?
I have the 8 gb ram version. You can absolutely settle for the 6 gb. I have great battery life compared to my old Note 8

I'd be less worried about the ram and more concerned with the storage. Do you pan on keeping the phone 1 year or 2? Capture a lot of video? If so, will a lot be 4k? Plan on using DEX?
If 128GB will serve you fine then save your money. If 512GB suits your needs better then by all means, get it. For the comments about RAM for a phone 6GB is plenty for this phone but would definitely see a tangible benefit if you use DEX. Also, if you have access to the expertise and resources, swapping out storage on a smartphone is much easier than swapping out RAM. It's not the hardest thing in the world to change your flash but it ain't easy and takes good eyesight and good hand eye coordination, not to mention the special hardware needed to get your phone flashed proper like from the factory.

I went for the 8GB of RAM and waited 3 weeks past release day for it. The main reason I was set on the 8GB of RAM is because I had the S9+ which has 6GB of RAM and wanted to see if there was a difference and the only real reason to upgrade from the S9+ is the 8GB of RAM and larger battery, and I can tell you from personal experience I see NO DIFFERENCE in performance from the 6GB of RAM on the S9+ compared to the 8GB of RAM on the Note9 regarding how the phone performs. BUT I can tell you the battery life is superb on the Note9 compared to the S9+ and I love the larger screen. But your question was which RAM size, and I now I can without a shadow of doubt say 6GB of RAM and save yourself the extra $250.

year at the most probably. it has a lot to beat that the pixel 2 offers
I keep my devices till they die. I have one of the first Nexus 6p's and it is beyond dead so that's my only reason for upgrading. This is why i went 8gb in hopes to (somewhat/kinda) future proof myself.
Thanks guys, for me the storage volume of 512 GB does not make any sense and I prefer to use a micro sd that after every formatting does not delete everything copied the data stored.
If you say that between 6g of ram and 8gb there is not a substantial difference, then I take the 6gb and I hope that in view of future updates I do not regret.
You're not going to notice a performance difference unless you somehow figure out how to peg the RAM. RAM management in a smartphone and a computer are 2 totally different beasts. Where you might notice the difference though is the amount of apps you have open and how fast you can switch between apps instead of waiting for it to reload from storage. That is going to be the biggest benefit and probably not many of us will see it and that is a big difference, especially at how good Android is at multitasking. Plus two apps at once. And again, DEX probably has a noticeable difference with 2 extra GB handy.

for multitasking I find myself already very well with note8 (6gb ram), but the dilema is dex and check a pushed multitasking if it makes the difference, but I would like to be sure and not based only on the assumptions.
I have not tried myself as I don't have both versions. But on YouTube there are quite a few videos that show the 8GB version allows more apps to open. This has to be a huge plus especially if you end up using DEX a lot. I am still surprised at how useful Samsung made DEX. They turned Android into a very useful and friendly desktop experience. I don't have the itch yet, but am eager to see how well emulation works through DEX. That will be freaking awesome if no noticeable latency using a USB or Bluetooth controller.

4K 60 is recorded on internal storage. In fact I think it stores all 4k on internal. Not 100% sure though. Personally, 128gb fills up in around 3 months for me, so if you install lots of apps and games, and take lots of video, then 512gb is the way to go. It's never a good idea to rely only on SD surely. I haven't used an SD card in .. well.... 3 or 4 years.

Ok, but tell me this, every time you wip the phone if you do not make a backup first, you lose everything, so you explain to me what sense does it have a large storage if you also need to have a copy somewhere else?
for me it is simply ridiculous.
videos in 4k 60 also have a time limit, so I do not think that some videos create big files so they need a storage of the genre.
The only thing that interests me at the end is the ram.

even with my note8 I backup the computer, so what changes? only longer periods? no thanks.
We talk about ram and if price diffrence is justified.
as for the ram I do not find any tests on dex on the web
At the end of the day it comes down to you...
I personally, if I can afford it, get the biggest memory and RAM, simply due to prefering to having and not needing vs. needing and not having...
If you want to spend the extra $$$ then great otherwise don't. It can't hurt to have extra ram or storage and on my 8gb version I find DEX runs fine... It's more about heat than RAM... As the phone heats up I've had a few lags, but I use a 3rd party USB-c hub... Haven't played around with the dock as yet though I do have it...
Time to buy something much newer than I had, but I'm not spending four digits. I'm strongly considering the Note 9 but don't know about its longevity at this point. Do you think the Note 9 still has plenty of mileage left?
I just bought an Ocean Blue Exynos 512GB Note9 2.5 months ago. Had an S5 for 5 years before it. The phone's amazing. I'd advise you to get the 512GB version as that model comes with 8GB RAM instead of 6. I constantly have 15 to 20 open apps in memory and unless the app is designed to refresh after a certain period of time, I never have app refreshes caused by low memory or Android killing my apps.
On Android 10 OneUI 2.0 I can safely get 8 hours of screen on time without any attempt to save my battery life. All my apps and system are with dark mode turned on though but I don't consider this an attempt at saving battery life as I've always preferred dark themes over lighter ones anyway.
Games like Asphalt 9 run with no issues at all, just the battery temperature rises to 40C if you play it for 1 hour nonstop. I'm not a gamer so that doesn't bother me at all as I rarely play it.
Finally, the Note9 gets monthly security updates and it will get OneUI 2.1 in June. That will most likely be its last major update though but if you don't really care for having Android 11 it's no problem at all as the phone is full of features anyway.
If you have any questions feel free to ask here and I'll respond. If you don't mind telling, what phone did/do you have?
One and only answer is -
Yes. Absolutely. Yes.
After one year with the N9,a great device without problems,i would buy a Note 10+....

All great to know. I'm coming from Note 4.
It seems the Note 9's reached root finally, while the Note 10 hasn't. I don't see virtually any ROMs in the N10 forum. That's another reason I'm leaning N9. I'd bet it'll get Android 11 thanks to devs here.

I'm still a corded headphone user, so the Note 9's 3.5mm jack really calls to me. Also, if I went Note 10, I'd want the 5G variant for futureproofing, and by then I'm still approaching four-digit pricing, even with the N20 coming. But I might still get the 10. Tell me: Keeping in mind that specs don't mean as much now as they used to, what makes the Note 10 better aside from just being one generation newer?

Really? Please elaborate.
Personally, I don't think I'd recommend a Note 9 in mid 2020. With the device already 2 years old, who knows when Samsung will stop supporting it (in otherwords, sending out security updates). Furthermore, we also don't know what the last Android version is that we as Note 9 users will see. Lets say we're not eligible for an Android 11 update, we're screwed. The US variant's bootloader is locked, therefore we're unable to load any custom ROMs, much less an Android 11 (or higher) based ROM.
Now if you only want a device that works just fine, well, my Note 9 works just fine and two years later, still handles everything I throw at it. I just wish I could root it, throw on a custom ROM and still use it as a daily driver. There's one particular app I want to use (Viper4Android), that fixed my Bluetooth issues in my former device (Note 4), but the issue (being audio quality) still plagues my Note 9. Too bad my Note 4 was in such sad shape and barely able to run because of outdated hardware, otherwise I would still be on it or the root access.

The Note9 has iris scanner, heart rate monitor, no hole on the front, has a headphone jack, has a LED notification light, the speakers are better than the Note10's (this is proven, can't give link now though), the power button is on the right side and the rear design, for me, looks way better than the newer models. Oh yeah, also the physical fingerprint scanner is way better than the in-screen one. Not to mention that you can get the 512GB storage version for half the price of the 512GB storage version of the Note10+. Force home press is also there on Note9 only.

If the OP doesn't think that updates are the most important thing in a phone (which they're definitely not), then I don't see how that's a problem. If from all of the current Note9 features he doesn't see anything that he may want missing then updates don't matter for him. And why would we be screwed if we don't get Android 11? Note9 has had Android 8.1, Android 9, Android 10 OneUI 2.0 and soon it's getting Android 10 OneUI 2.1. I'd say that's quite a lot + it seems like Android 11 is not a major update so no new features as of now.
I'm talking about the international unlocked Exynos version btw, it has root, bootloader is unlocked and there are many custom ROMs. My advice - never buy a career branded phone. That's when you'll be really screwed xd

About root and custom ROM stuff, it's not worth it anymore in my opinion. You lose more things than you gain. If you root you lose Secure Folder and Samsung Pay and maybe Samsung Health forever. Even if some of those can be brought back, it's a hassle. The stock OneUI ROM has many of the root-only features from the past built into it. Also I was very surprised that thanks to Dolby Atmos I didn't need nor want Viper4Android anymore I've been using V4A on both my S3 Mini and S5 before, I also rooted the S3 Mini very early after having it and the S5 on the same day as I got it so you could say I was a tinkering kind of guy But with the Note9 that changed as it has everything I'd ever want out of the box.
I bought the last 2 new note 9 from Samsung directly through there Ebay store one still in the box never opened both for 349 each let's just say I got a good deal for the price I had note 10+ for 3 days and returned it didn't care for it much. Quality isnt the same and that hole punch is obnoxious to me.
As a Note 9 user, I would say YES. But not the 6GB variant, although it is sufficient for daily use but 8GB variant is the ideal choice. With 4000mAh battery, Iris Scanner, No punch hole display, I would say if is worth to buy unless you prioritize OS updates .

Totally agree with the above!!!:good:
I would. I have a N960U Special Edition with 512GB internal storage and 8GB Ram. I have recently downgraded the OS from Android 10 back to Android Pie due to the fact that Android 10 has issues with the Secure Folder. Which I have tried very hard to resolve. But couldn't...
I'm buying it. Looking forward to it, especially coming from a Note 4. Appreciate the advice, all.

I jumped from the note 4 to the 8 and quickly to the 9. Its amazing compared to the 4. I rooted all my phones and see no need now. The cameras are awesome. Hell this phone is more powerful them my laptop. Oh and dex is cool and getting better.
Note9 512GB.
I think its well worth it. If you don't plan to get the Note 20 absolutely. And I am sure they can be had for a decent price. Good luck. Don't know where you plan to buy it from. But I have helped several people over the past few weeks that have got Notes off Ebay and they had numerous issues, some were even fake. When I have purchased off Ebay I always ask seller to email pics of the actual device along with the about phone screen. Not all that buy off Ebay have issues but I know some have. Again hope you find what you're looking for.

Have both the Note 9 and the 10+.
Both are excellent phones, though I do see a speed difference in the them. The Note 9 is, in my opinion, noticeably slower than the Note 10+, especially if I've been using the 10+ for a while. This is only noticeable for a short while until I get used to the 9 again but it certainly makes you fall in love with the speed of the 10+ again.
Both have their pro's and con's, most noticeable is the iris scanner, 3.5mm headphone jack and heart rate sensor on the Note 9 with the ToF camera, 12gb of RAM and newer updates of Android on the 10+. Also the 10+ has fast charge and is able to wirelessly charge other devices too. For every upgrade there is a loss but that works both ways...
I have both in the Exynos variant as I live outside the US so both rootable.
Overall, the Note 9 still holds it's own against most flagship devices (hell, the Note 10 lite has the internal specs of the Note 9 so you should be able to get Android 11 from there if a dev is happy to to do that), it is still a viable option if you want a flagship phone for a reduced price but just remember that there are going to be fewer updates for it and they are no longer a priority.

The day has come. The Note9 arrived. Before I set it up, anything I should know about why I should/shouldn't update right out the box? Should I update to Android 10 right away, or is there any reason to do something else?
So last week i bought new Oneplus 9Pro was using 7Pro previously
the battery on 9pro is soo worse..... and its not possible for me to charge the phone everytime SOT time is less then 3 hours
heating issues......
if i use camera it work for few min then recording stops getting notification phone heats up....
in the end i am really not satisfied with it.. now i am thinking to switch to Samsung S21 Ultra..
how's the battery life i am from india so ill be getting exynos version.. and can the samsung be easily rootable? any other drawback ?

I went from 9 Pro to the S21 Ultra Snapdragon version a few days ago and it is a very nice device so far. I just got so fed up with OnePlus price increases while having awful customer service again and again, across several years but getting worse and worse with my 7 Pro and 9 Pro.
My takeaway.
1. The S21 Ultra display seems smoother in PokeMon go. the 7 Pro and 9 Pro never felt high refresh rate and I was always a bit bummed it wasn't better, but the S21 Ultra seems so much smoother in FPS refresh.
2. The 21 Ultra seems to have battery optimizations that don't ruin other apps. SMS Backup and restore would fail again and again on my 7 Pro and 9 Pro. I would try to restore 60k messages and I wouldn't have any other apps open, but just having my screen timeout and the app would stop and act like I never started it. I tried disabling battery optimizations, but that didn't fix anything. The S21 Ultra powered through these and didn't raise any issues. In fact, I restored about 800k messages (a lot of old backups I wasn't sure if they had restored properly so just making sure), and the S21 ultra powered through. I even opened Pokemon go while doing this.
4. Battery life on the S21 Ultra seem very good. The display is nice and bright and fluid. One noticably difference is the weight of the device. My 21 Ultra feels way bigger and heavier than my 9 Pro. The fingerprint scanner is always pretty fast and accurate. Also, since the screen isn't curved that much, the screen protectors will be easier to apply and not have them peel up or offer poor protection at teh edges.
I also cannot decide between OP9 pro and Galaxy S21 ultra.
I have the Exynos model.
Battery life is immense, I regularly get to the end of a 16+ hour day with circa 40% battery and having had over 4 hours SOT. Reaching 6 hours+ SOT on these phones is easy.
No issues with heating myself, although I've read others who have. My device with normal user hovers in the high 20s / low 30s degrees C, but that's with UK ambient temps. In India that's bound to be higher. If I record video or use the phone for something intense, it will go up to the high 30s but I think I've only seen it over 40 degrees once when I was benchmarking not long after I first got it in March.
I've rooted mine, it's very easy to do. However, I regretted it, but only because my 8 year old son dropped my phone about a week after I did that and Samsung refused to fix it even on a paid, non-warranty repair thanks to their bulls**t Knox policy. As such I'll never buy another Samsung device but I can't lie even though I'm annoyed with them, this is the best phone I've owned and the best phone out there right now I think. I bought a screen assembly for £280 UK, it's really easy to fit and now the phone is as good as new.
I'd go with Note 20U, you'll want the SD card slot.
It's also running on the less problematic Android 10.

How did you come to that conclusion? I've got 256gb in my Ultra and I doubt I'll ever get near to filling it and I suspect the same would apply to the vast majority of other users.
Gone are the days were films and music media needed to be held locally, it's almost all stream services now. Vast storage on a phone these days isn't a necessity for the majority, and that will only become more the case as we move forward.

You can't stream what's not there... and you waste battery. No internet, no music.
With over 200 albums including HDCDs I don't care about online music much other than to sample. This arrangement allows me to fully utilize Poweramp's extensive audio features as well so it sounds better and the playlists/library are embedded and fully backed up.
Zero cloud dependent here.
You need an SD card to use as a data drive for critical data. All my machines are set up with an OS drive and a separate data drive(s).
Android OS's rarely crash until they do. At that point I can do a full restore in under 2 hours with no internet connection. Apps, backup files, everything I need is ready to go. No PC needed either as all the data is already on a .5tb V30 card which is redundantly backed up to a flash drive and hdds just in case.
The data drive also serve as a buffer zone in the case of malware infections. In over 15 years only once did malware breach a data drive; I can't say the same for the OS drives.

Ah, so you were taking your needs and saying it applied to him. Gotcha.
Personally, I perform a regular Nandroid backup so no matter what happens I have a means of returning it to its previous state.
Even speaking as someone who's worked in IT for 25+ years it sounds like you're using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Allow me to retort *grin*,
I'm saying simply don't buy a very expensive phone that grossly limits your options by having no SD card support.
For years I used my SD card haphazardly like most until I realized I had a 1tb dual drive computer in my hands.
A SD card used correctly increases not only the memory capacity but the speed, redundancy, versatility and security of an Android. If you root you definitely want one...
So yeah, I think you goofed up
We clearly have different definitions of what constitutes having one's options grossly limited.
Would I choose having an SD card slot over not having one? Yes. Would I describe not having one as being grossly limiting? No. I have enough knowledge of how phones and general technology works to get around any so called limitations the lack of one would bring.
As for the goofed up comment. Odd.

It's impossible to replace a data drive with up to a terabyte of additional storage. There's no easy workaround to not having instant access to data.
For a high end Samsung you should have this option. That's one reason repeat buyers choose Samsung, options, more then you'll ever likely use but they are there... or should be.
Something the inept marketing people at Samsung chose to ignore.
Actions have consequences Sammy.
I could buy a new flag$hip phone now but I choose not to. Instant karma Sammy...
Meanwhile some of the competition decided they would include SD card slots.
And one of those boasts the new graphene battery technology as well. As Sammy $crews around with their floundering Fold beta hardware some companies are slamming down advanced tech solutions that work.
Ill be getting 512 GB version exynos

It isn't necessary but it's nice to have. I was hesitant to buy the s21 ultra and waited a few months just because of the SD card slot. I can manage to work around not having it but why if you don't have to? I like having my lossless music and all my photos and videos on one card that I can move on to the next phone. Obviously you gotta change with the times now that no phones really have it any more. Though I'm jumping to the Sony Xperia 1 III as soon as it's available.

I have the same issue with the onplus wireless charger and any of my Samsung phones. The Note 20 ultra, z Fold 2 or the s21 ultra. Not sure why that is the case. Luckily I have a bunch of Samsung fast wireless chargers laying around as well.
