Is it possible to set Display Mode on a per app basis? - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

I picked up my 128GB Note 9 last week. It's my first Note and first Samsung phone. The display is absolutely incredible, but I'm wondering if there is a way to set the Display Mode on a per app basis? The Adaptive Mode is fine for most of the time, but I do the odd bit of photo editing in Lightroom on my phone, so I'd like the phone to change to AMOLED Photo mode when I open that app. Is this possible on the device itself or do Adobe have to update the Lightroom app to make this happen?

I'm guessing the answer to this is no then?

I don't think it's possible unless you use something like Tasker. But then again I'm not sure if Tasker can do it.

I've checked and Tasker can't change the display mode, only brightness and things like that. I was wondering if there was an option somewhere in the phone settings to allow me to do that but I can't find anything. Just seems a bit of a pain to jump into the settings app to change display mode every time I want to do some photo editing. It surely can't be that hard for Samsung to implement this kind of thing to be user configurable?

Virtual Tour Shot Camera Mode

Anyone have any idea how to use this? When I select this mode, I get the pop up window that explains what it is and the message at the bottom to align the circle with the pointer, but the screen shows a blue dot inside the white circle no matter where I'm pointing, which orientation I'm holding the phone and there's no option to activate the camera....it's grayed out, and the settings are for the video only. I can tap on the video button, but then it just records video.
Anyone have any idea how to actually use this mode?
Follow the information on the screen. It'll tell you what to do. The dot will be your focal point and the Circle will eventually pop up. You'll need to go either left or right or straight.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
The circle doesn't do anything. I have it pointing down a hall way and nothing happens. ..
once you start panning or moving forward a new circle shows up, you just match the dot to the new circle, very simple
Is it supposed to automatically just detect the "scene" and start? Are there some other settings that, when activated, disable this functionality? Do you have to activate the first shot by hitting the camera button (because if so, mine doesn't let me tap on it).

I swear I tried that! I started walking down the hallway, and there are doors visible that are open along the hallway, and NOTHING happens... :crying::crying::crying: I WANT THIS FEATURE TO WORK! LOL
Here, watch a video of me TRYING to get it to work....any ideas? https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/105678/MOV_0040.mp4
Ok, after 30 mins with Samsung tech support and then booting up into Safe Mode, we determined that there's some 3rd party app that may be inhibiting the VT Shot function, because it DID work in Safe Mode. I even uninstalled the google camera app.....Although that didn't seem to be the issue.....with this in mind, and knowing that this phone is not rooted, what's the best approach to help identify which app could be the culprit here? I don't want to wholesale factory reset and slowly add one app at a time....any ideas?

SOLVED! I FIGURED OUT THE CULPRIT! On my old S4, I was using the app "Moves" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.protogeo.moves) which was a Pedometer app. But now that S Health is so integrated with the phone, I actually don't need it, so when I removed it, Virtual Tour Shot cam mode started working. Makes sense that the app would interfere with the motion sensor.....

i bet you feel soooooooo relieved. its one of the best feelings in the world to go through meticulous trial and error and finally find the problem. congrats i really know how you feel haha
For sure! Especially because this is my first Android device which I have NOT rooted (victim of circumstance, not elective), so I knew it wasn't because of some weird rooted circumventing process. On the plus side, with s health's built-in pedometer setting, there's no need for Moves anymore.

STOCK Gallery photo editing

I noticed that when coming from the S8 plus to the Note 8 the stadt gallery no longer allows precise adjustments in the gallery app. For example..
You can no longer finely-tuned a filter like in the gallery app on the S8 Plus. It's pretty much their filter the way they like it. Even in the vignette, you can't adjust it whatsoever.
Anyone notice this?

The phone's not even been officially released yet bro... give them a chance to update the apps :silly:
Not really an excuse when almost the entire world has had it since September 5th
I'm also noticing that the stock gallery no longer has the option for advanced photo editing options. I loved being able to adjust curves, tone, and other precise adjustments right in the stock app. Why would they take this away on the power user device? Anybody know of any impending updates?

If you go to the overflow button there's an option to open the image in 'Photo Editor Pro', the adjustments you mention are in the 'Advanced' section.

Found that the other day, but how do you make that the DEFAULT? This "update" is NOT an improvement. And I think I just confused the heck out of two Samsung agents this morning trying to explain what I wanted to do. If anyone has any good ideas, I'm all ears.
I've also posted in the Samsung Community forum, but you'll have to hunt for it, since I'm new to xdadevelopers and can't share the link here.

AH! Thanks! Seems odd that they'd bury it like this and I agree with the previous poster that I'd prefer this option by default as on the S8+.

Looks like your precise adjustments are also available in "Photo Editor Pro" mode.

The 3 dots at top right.

I can't find my raw photos

I have the rear camera set to Save RAW and JPEG files. I also have the camera app set to save to SD card. However, when I take a picture, I only get a JGP. I've looked in the DCIM subdirectories on both the SD card and Internal memory. I only see the JPGs on the SD card.
I've got to just be missing something stupid. Any ideas what that may be?

Was about to ask the same question. Where's the raw???
did you switch your camera into Pro mode? I think it won't shoot RAW in Auto or burst mode. Otherwise you'll have 2 pictures next each other, with JPG and DNG extensions.

Shooting in PRO mode did the trick. Thanks.
So, where do I turn on "Pro" mode?

I don't know why that was so hard for me. But I appreciate your help.
Another awesome and useful (for me anyways) tip, when recording VIDEO with the flash on, you can tap centre of screen and drag the flash brightness adjustment up or down to adjust. I've been wanting this feature since my Note 4 and it finally exists.

You can also say "Open camera in Pro mode" with Bixby
Still, where is the RAW copy saved? I can't see it anyhere with "My Files" neither in gallery. Adobe Lightroom shows nothing if I only leave the "RAW" option checked. Yes, of course I have tried in Pro mode and the RAW saving is enabled.
LE : Problem solved. You can't use custom color tone. Only thing is, i didn't get the error when i switched into Pro mode.
Sorry, how can I turn custom color tone off.

This has been a really helpful discussion for me, pretty much a neubie, though only realised this when I hadn't tried swiping right in camera in over a year of use!
Could someone be kind enough to share how can I turn custom color tone off. I'm not exactly begging, well actually I am.

Sorry for the really late reply. I hope you found out by now.
If not, you just have to open the "Tone" tab which is in line with the other settings like ISO, exposure time etc and just reset the setting
hi guy, are you ok with a problem? Can you check saving raw file => switch to camera pro mode => reset filter to Standard mode => take picture (raw, jpg)

Disable launcher suggestions, alternative/hack for notification LED?

I love the device so far, ran only into two minor hiccups.
1) I had other Huawei phones recently and either this is new or I managed to disable it previously and forgot how: When I open the app list I get a row of "suggestions" and find those useless/annoying. Can I fix that?
2) I .. didn't even know that it would come without a notification led before it arrived at my doorstep. Somehow every phone I owned in the last decade or so had one and I start to miss it. Are there any software fixes for this, maybe using the always on display mode?

for 1) - unninstall tips app
Thst doesn't change the behavior (bit is probably a good idea anyway..).
My app drawer starts with a row of suggestions (recent apps I guess), a little bit of separation space and then I have the normal A-Z listing of apps.
The suggestions are bad/crap/wasting space 99% of the time, so I want them gone. Tips doesn't do that as far as I can see..

For the second the P30 pro has Always on display and after the 124 update shows all messages from all apps. Even from 3rd party apps.
How.. why..
That is a (cool?) app to show your battery status around the notch area.
It certainly has nothing to do with the app drawer/launcher problem, but I also don't see the relation to the missing notification led (although it would be cool if the app could function as that instead of a battery indicator, but then it also would need to be displayed whole the screen is "off").
Unrelated, no?

Unfortunately that seems not good enough.
For one, notifications are funky/working only half the time for me so far.
Worse, the notifications that do appear on the always on display are gone after I unlocked the phone once. Even if the notification still exists/wasn't dismissed, it's now gone from the always on display.. :-/

I think this app might work for you Always On Edge - Edge Lighting ? ; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
I'm using it on my p30 pro and also the s10 plus. You can disable the edge lights and only use the notification icons if you want.

Thanks, that .. might be a solution, maybe. Will spend some time with it, a quick install was both interesting (it's really customizable) and disappointing (some things didn't work at all and I'm .. unsure how it interacts with my default lock screen, how the unlock process is changed).
Maybe just needs more time to check it out? Unfortunately I haven't found proper documentation and the spelling in the options is a bit hard in places [English is a foreign language for me too, so no blame here].

Is there a way to suspend notifications ?

while playing games, watching videos or YouTube, just while I'm using those apps ?
or secondly a way to turn them all off until I want them again ?
android 11 not rooted
Yes go into settings-apps, look for notifications in the apps you want to silence select accordingly
no I'm looking for something that's the other way around for example I don't want to see any notifications when I'm in mxplayer but when I'm not it's OK.
it's something that gaming mode does on some phones. it would be tedious to silence all the apps I think might interrupt the screen one by one each time I play a game and have to undo it when I'm finished.
I take it that this doesn't exist, seems an oversight if so.
actually just turning off the heads up aspect would do, notifications are surprisingly big on this phone, especially in landscape.

Yeah Samsung's eula's suck. I didn't notice any difference with it active on my 10+ anyway.
