Did they remove the option to turn off WiFi when the phone sleeps? Can't find it in WiFi advanced settings.
Yup, i feel like it turns it off and causes issues with taskter, etc. could also just be tasker.

Huh? I think we were talking about the opposite thing. WiFi stays ON when sleeping now. Before it could be set to turn off when screen was off thus your apps wouldn't get updated until your phone woke up.

Yeah I know this wasn't the point of the thread, but this is exactly what happens to me. If my WiFi is on and I leave the phone off for a while I get no push notifications for anything, I only noticed one morning when I'd left WiFi on and woke up, when I turned it off and went back to mobile data, all my notifications came. It's not much of an issue for me as I don't use WiFi really, I get 20gb data a month so my mobile data is on 24/7 and get no problems with that.

a lot of this has to do with the battery conservation features of Oreo. every oreo phone i've had has had this issue unless it was a custom ROM built over a 7.1 kernel

Yes I agree, I've had constant problems with notifications for a year or more now, stock and custom ROMs, this is actually the first time I've not had a problem with them, except on WiFi like I mentioned. Everything comes through straight away on mobile data, even when the phone's been asleep for several hours.

I have selected to never keep WiFi on during sleep yet now the tablet continues to run the WiFi as you can see in the pictures. This has forced me to use airplane mode when I am on the go because otherwise the tablet just keeps WiFi on and burns the battery extremely quick. This has been a problem since I updated to 4.2.1. I am not rooted completely stock. A solution would be great because this sucks right now. I have tried clearing the cache in recovery but that didn't solve the problem.
I'm running the latest Paranoidandroid ROM and thought that was the problem. I can't yet post to that developer forum so I was just waiting for the next beta.
I guess it's a problem with 4.2.1 then.

If you don't find a solution you may want to try DataEasyPro from the market. It kills both 3g and wifi as soon as the screen is off and then runs a user defined schedule to turn on 3g or wifi every now and the for a few seconds to keep you upto date with your social world. Works great. There is even a widget so you can turn off the schedule when you are downloading or updating from the play store.

I think it is a 4.2.1 problem. Its hard to say how wide spread it is though because I have only seen a handful of posts about this issue though. To me, this issue is unacceptable. I should not have to enable/disable airplane mode to conserve battery. Especially when the previous version of android prior to the 4.2.1 update handled WiFi sleep settings without a problem. Hopefully a fix will be here soon. My tablet used to have superb battery life without me constantly monitoring it. Now I feel like I have to keep double checking that I remember to use airplane mode so that I don't go to use the tablet and find a nearly depleted battery.

In had the same issue. I found Google maps to be the culprit.
It defaulted back to location reporting.
Check Google now sync, maps and currents.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
It's not google maps itself, it's the android location service. It's always collecting data even if your phone or tabscreen isn't on. This is pretty anoying since google only let you choose between agreeing to run the service in the background or not using it at all. Stupid! How about collecting data only when the device is in use?
Same here. There is a bug report on Google about it.

I highly recommend using an app called Better Battery Stats. You can find the free version here on XDA. It'll tell you if there is an app causing a wakelock. I used it to troubleshoot my Rezound and I'm getting a solid 4-5 hours of screen on time with the extended battery on that because it helped me lock down the apps that were killing my battery.

I was having the wifi on issue as well. Just bought my N7, stock 4.2.1 and not rooted. I followed the tip in point four of this post, which details a simple set up using Tasker, where the unit turns the wifi on and off after the screen turns on or off respectively. The reason for the 10 second delay as is detailed in the link, is to allow for the turning on of your N7 to check the time or other reasons, and then quickly turn it off without the wifi on task being activated.
the screenshot below shows my wifi being stuck on while in sleep mode, even with it set to be never on during sleep in the settings, and the change in behavior once the 2 Tasker profiles we set up.
Cheers
Those of you having issues, have you tried the "only when plugged in" setting? Not sure if it would really matter but that's what I use and mine turns on and off just fine.

Testing that now. Turned off Tasker, and set wifi to the "only when plugged in" setting. It's only been about 30 minutes, but so far it looks like it's behaving the same as before, as in keeping wifi on while in sleep. I'll Let it sleep for a few hours and see what the chart shows.
Cheers
EDIT: So I let my N7 sit for about an hour after switching the above mentioned settings, and you can see in the screenshot below that the wifi is staying on while the unit is not awake. I've set my Tasker profiles to control the wifi once again.
I know it may be fixed by a factory reset, but frankly I'm more than happy with the way Tasker handles the issue.
Cheers
so 6 months later, I am still getting this problem. However it seems only to be with the last update. The tasker method seems to be working well though.
So to quickly sum up, the battery of my Moto X is good for precisely 3 days after I got it, and then started draining quickly in it's sleep. I performed a factory reset, installed the same applications, and the battery was once again good for 3 days, until it experienced the same symptoms. Anybody have any idea why this would happen? Thanks.
P.S. Battery stats reports that my Wi-Fi is always on even if I turn it off. The only way to "turn off" the wifi is to turn off the low-battery location tracking in the wifi menu, so this is kindof leading me to believe that the phone is pinging for location quite often, thus always keeping my wifi on. Just a thought.

See you would be right, if it weren't for the fact that I install and completely set up all my apps within an hour of restoring the phone, and don't install any after that.
Ok so I've now taken the device out of safe mode, let it run on Wifi a bit, and then let it run on LTE. Even though the phone isn't registering it, the device is waking. I can determine this by the CPU run time vs the screen-on time vs the wake time. You can see in the screenshots.
You can see the dip as soon as I turn on LTE. The CPU total goes up so wakelocking is the problem on idle, even though it's not showing it.

that's not what I'm saying, and that's not what you suggested either. You said to examine the last after I installed and see if it's waking my device. Then I told you that I installed all my applications immediately after factory reset on the device. It makes no sense that an app would not display rogue behavior until three days later. Plus, after running in safe mode, the battery life did not improve.

yes but I do not want to lose root as soon as the 4.4.2 update is released on February 1st. I plan on rooting the phone after that. I'm worried that after I root though, I discover it is a hardware issue, its going to be a long process of unrooting the phone to send back to Motorola.
Get Gsam and see what is going on. Simple. The stock battery info is next to useless.
Then you can take screen shots that have better info.

messing around with the settings and found it has something to do with the lock screen security. When its set to "none" the notifications works fine. I have tried a couple of the apps for screen locks and are not satisfied with them as far as thier looks. I am really hoping when ATT finally released the kit kat update it will fix this problem. I just sold my LG G2 to get this phone. Kinda disappointed now that ATT released its update today.
I used to have the HTC one but didnt like not having the sd card. I found I like the bigger screens.
Did you finally figure out the solution? I am completely stock, not rooted and have the same issue since last 6 months. I never had any lock screen, so thats not the issue, I always have my phone unlocked.
The problem is not app specific. The delay in notification happens all across the board. When my phone is sleeping, i dont get any notification. As soon as I wake it up, all notification come at the same time, including Yahoo mail, Gmail, hangout messages, whatsapp, Google voice, twitter and others.
It seems like the wifi/data is disabled when phone is sleeping. I double checked in the Advanced Wifi option that wifi is always on. Some people said that the push notification heartbeat might be the issue but why only few of us are seeing this issue and not everyone?
Anyone have any solution?
I have always had my Note 3 on PIN, and I always wake up to at least 2 or 3 emails (sometimes many more), and at least 2 or 3 days I wake up to a new text (I don't text people normally, but Amazon texts me to let me know an order has shipped, etc.)
So it's not the email or text app and it's not the lock screen "as a rule on all devices". It could be a few different things, like allowing wifi to be turned off when the screen is off (that saves so little battery it doesn't make any practical difference - turn it off and keep wifi on all the time). I don't normally run with 3G/4G on, but that shouldn't turn off during sleep, so it wouldn't cause the problem.

Hi Norbarb,
Last weekend, I was on QA4 then I Odin'd back to APK1 and took the Official ATT OTA update to Nougat 7.0.
I just tested screen mirroring and it worked without any problems. Sorry, I don't have a Samsung BluRay to test.
Now the issue that I've been having is reboots. In the beginning, when I was first on N7.0 I had no problems whatsoever for a few days.
- On Feb. 20th, I kept getting a message that one of my apps unexpectedly closed. Now this app is old and wasn't even supported on MM (it's called Webcams widget) but it had worked flawlessly on MM and Nougat QA4.
- Then on Feb. 21st I had a couple of reboots happen, I went into a solid Bootloop that started in the afternoon and kept rebooting for around 10-15 times! It stopped long enough for me to actually Power Off my S7E down in the normal manner and I left it that way for around 5 minutes.
- I searched for solutions and finally ended up clearing the Cache Partition like this:
Wipe cache partition
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the Volume Up key, Home key, and Power key at the same time.
When the phone powers on, the Android System Recovery screen appears approx. 30 seconds later.
Release all of the keys.
Press the Volume down key to highlight "wipe cache partition."
Press the Power key to select.
Press the Volume down key to highlight “yes” and press thePower key to select.
When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
Press the Power key to restart the device.
My phone went without a reboot for almost 2 days then yesterday afternoon I had one single reboot. My next test (if needed) will be to clear each app cache/data. Unless it gets really, really bad again, only then will I resort to a complete reset.
The only difference between using my phone on the official QA6 and the sideloaded QA4 is that I had turned off auto-updating for my Play Store apps when on QA4 (and earlier). I had a lot of updates occur when updating to QA6.
Doing more research today, I found an article talking about some common Nougat problems and possible fixes here.

Actually I just took a guess and re-enabled com.qualcomm.atfwd. I don't have a wifi display BUT I haven't gotten "Android System has stopped" since I turned it back on. This was never an issue on MM. If it happens again I'll try a few more packages related to Android System before a factory reset.

Package Disabler Pro. It's the only one that currently works in Nougat as far as I know.
I switched to OnePlus 3T today, and here are few observations guys...
Compared to Nougat on S7E... different level of speed and responsiveness, way different.
I used CM and AOSP roms in the past, on different phones, I know they fast, but this... speed demon out of the box, with MM or Nougat.
Feel bad for leaving S7E forums, but believe me guys, it is a flagship killer indeed. Unbelievable.
I will go back to Sammy with S8 only if they will be able to keep up with this kind of speed, plain and simple.
I was hoping with every generation that Sammy will get rid of touchwiz lags... new phones and new chipsets were piling up, but it never changed, unfortunately.
Touch wiz nougat is a bloody mess next to 3T nougat...
Yes yes, I know. But I never used edge panels... or OOD that much.
Peace out guys!

My main issue with this update is that my recently used apps will randomly close when the screen is locked & only keep 4 or 5 open. I want them to all stay open & I close the ones I no longer need. That is why I got this phone in the first place. Now apps that I need to go back to later & continue working are gone. Very annoying. I assumed it was a new performance setting activated without any explanation of how it will affect normal usage. I can't find where to change that particular setting, if it is changeable at all now.

Thanks for the tip. I tried that a few times. No change. Even added frequently used apps to be unmonitored. It is still closing all recently used apps, except the last 4 or 5. I just now turned off the app power monitor completely. It didn't change the estimated battery life hardly any. We'll see how that goes for a while.

Have turned off AOD as I don't need it nor want it and the white fingerprint circle pops up every ten seconds or so even though I've said I don't want AOD.
Has anyone else got this crap behaviour??

Haha it is
Haha, well then select settings in there, and Fingerprint Off
Lol honestly mate, AOD is off and fingerprint animation is also off. Try it yourself, I think it's a bug.
I've just turned on AOD, going to leave that bitmoji thing on. Why not.
I've tried everything to get rid of the FP, it just won't go.
Yeh sounds like a , I don't use Fingerprint and I leave aod on...
Cheers

I'm sure if you tried it would do the same thing. Probably one of the many issues.
It's definitely a beta this firmware

I even went so far as to disable the system AOD apk via an apk disabler tool & that did not work.
IDK if you ever found the actual toggle to turn it off......I finally found it by selecting the search result in Settings.
I typed in Always & stopped there,finding "Always-On Display".
The toggle is at the very top of the page (FWIW,I missed this earlier when in the settings,it was easy for me to overlook the toggle in dark mode).
If you've already tried this & it's still coming on,here's what I'm trying for the next day or so:
Turn Always-On Display back on & set a scheduled time for one minute.
For example,I've got it turning on at 4:00 A.M. & turning off at 4:01 A.M.
ATM,option 2,the scheduled on/off time,seems to be working.
EDIT;after a few minutes,AOD is coming back on.
This is annoying....... Not looking good as a keeper, not liking OxyColor OS at all, what a mess compared to the OP7T Pro.
Not just this, but, the settings layout (for individual app settings is a trainwreck & power/performance options not sticking, keeps reverting back to out-of-box settings.
Well I think I found a permanent fix for this...it's actually a bug (in my case anyway)
I was forced to wipe my phone, which was a huge pain due to a problem with a mod I'd installed..
Anyway on boot I set everything back up then realised it's got AOD on by default and I went a turned it off.
Low and behold it stayed off..no need to do anything.
So what I think has happened is the update that came recently (11_A.12) that could have caused issues, always good to wipe after an update.
I honestly don't know if this will fix things for you, but it did for me.
Couple that with the fact that I'm now getting unbelievable battery life...I think it's maybe a good idea to at least try, you may not fix your AOD but you may get better battery. As I did, I think you'll probably get both.
Here's a bunch of pics from the last 24 hours, midnight on Thursday evening /start of Friday up till now.
Absolutely amazing.

I just got the 1st system update for the T-Mobile US version.
The AOD option to turn it off is now working.
Here's what is/was strange, pre-update:
The only way I could see/access the Always-On Display settings/toggle was to have the stock OnePlus Launcher as the default home app.
Even then, AOD stayed on, whether toggled on or off.
I was able to figure this out from prior experience with the original Oppo Find X & VIVO NEX.
Very strange that certain (seemingly unrelated) settings would be hidden due to choice of home launcher, but, apparently,BBK doesn't see this as an issue/bug(feature, LOL) that needs to be addressed, guessing this "feature" is persistent on the home market China models/firmware.
Glad it was cleaned up for the T-Mobile US update.
On a somewhat related note, pre-update, I could not find a way to choose "No Lock Screen". I looked in the usual place to find such & it was not available, AFAIK.
Now, post-update, that setting is found in "Developer Options". (Why?????? LOL)
On an unrelated note, post-update, another bug has apparently been taken care of for the T-Mobile US version :
T-Mobile bloatware apps now stay disabled, if chosen to do so. Pre-update, they would re-appear after a reboot.
With these bug fixes, my outlook on keeping this phone has definitely changed for the positive. I still have about 10 days remaining before T-Mobile's buyer's remorse return window closes.
