Just wondering, is the technology of the face ID scanner same as the note 8 or is it more improved security wise?

Face ID belongs to Apple and is more secure than iris scanning and face recognition of Samsung.
As for security over the note 8, read this :
www.cnet.com/google-amp/news/samsung-galaxy-s9-intelligent-scan-unlock-favors-ease-over-security/
that applies to note 9 too.

Fair enough, so the facial stuff is more of a convenience than anything. I'll just carry on using fingerprint and or passcodes.

We've heard complain about iPhone "too" fast fingerprint scanner.
Once they click the home key it unlocks the phone. Which they don't intented.
But my tab s2 doesn't do the same, is samsung fingerprint scanner slower than that of iPhones?

Can we use note 9 spen in note 8 by install spen remote app in note 8
Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
I'm not sure what s-pen remote app you're talking about. So, without knowing what it is or what it does, I'm still going to say no, you can't use the Note9 pen on the Note8, aside from the basic features that you can already do with your own pen. The bluetooth features won't work.

No the S9 pen does not work in the Note 8.
touch does not work, nor does the Bluetooth features.
I mean even if you where magically able to get it to work, you would be faced with the issue on how to charge the Spen.......
i tried and touch working on note 8 but i didn't test bluetooth feature yet
and the note 9 spen will not fit in the note 8's slot. tried it as i have the 9 while my wife has the 8. the note 9 spen will only go through like a fifth of the length and stop. the note 8 spen, being smaller, locks in the note 9 slot but is kind of loose internally. something to do with the note 9's spen being more rectangular as opposed to the note 8's curvier pen.

it pairs the pen in slot. So you cant plug the note 9 pen to note 8 pen slot. its fatter.
Hi All,
I have misplaced the Spen and dont wish to spend 50USD on the replacement.
I hardly use the Spen so was thinking if the note 5/note8 fit in the note 9.
They are easily available for 5USDs online on aliexpress.

I think you could get the 9 s pen for a bit less than that on eBay, but I have seen people mention in these forums that the note 8 pen does fit in the 9.
Just forget about the bluetooth features though... The Note 8 S-Pen doesn't support those...
I still have my Note 7 s-pen and the Note 9 screen doesn't respond to touches from it at all.

Is your Note 9 S-Pen still in your phone? Your phone turns off the digitizer if the S-Pen is in the silo.
You can turn it off by going to:
Settings > advanced > S-Pen > Poswer saver

I think it will fit as both have exact same dimensions, just be cautious no to force it. Note 8 s-pen works only in screen off (black screen) mode, not with regular screen on.

Yes it was... I just tried my Tab S3 pen and it works on the Note 9.
I can confirm, the Note 8 S-Pen does NOT work on the Note 9. Samsung likely wanted people to buy new accessories.

Looking at what has been written in various reports, the Note 8 should get it in January 2019!

You are reading about the S9 for ~January.
After that, there is the Note 9 (in the second wave of releases), then the Note 8 in the third wave of releases).
January....for Note 8, will not be happening. You are better off with April 1, 2019 as an April fool's joke.
Until then, you can still expect to get the monthly security patches.
The Note 8 will not get Pie until right before the Note 10 is about to come out. Just like when we got Oreo right before the Note 9 came out. Samsung is the worst on Android updates they are so far behind. The Note 9 launched with Oreo phones that came out a month after have Pie.
I dont understand why all the trouble about firmware updates, security patches I agree, but I get a device because I really like it as it is from the start, moreover, it is designed based on a certain android version, that is why sometimes the major updates create some sorts of problems, I really prefer the truly stable firmware the phone came with, but that is MY opinion

No. It is called "business". Samsung is in bed with your carrier to ensure you update the latest handset (so they both win).

I only buy flagship devices just to get the latest firmware updates (security patches and bragging rights). I just don't want a Vanilla Google device like the Pixel as I think it is incomplete. Google is "fixing" the fragmentation problem, so there should be no more "unstable firmware updates" as you are alluding to. If you were fair, you would admit that THOSE problems are caused by users who flash / update their devices, and don't perform a factory wipe, with a clean setup.

We got Oreo in March, and N9 released in August.
Note 8 SM-N9500 Dual SIM 256Gb pie update came yesterday! All OK, One UI is a vast improvement! The only thing I miss is the SMS widget!

From all the vids I watched it didn't look like a very polished feature. I don't see how moving my entire hand is better then a small movement of my finger on the screen. Then I see the 10 as a downgrade even compared to the note 8. The 10+ lost to many useful features for useless ones.
I think the only software features I would want would be the screen recorder. I already use game launcher to semi make that possible in apps.
Either way I can see a lot of software features will eventually make there way to the note9.

No its not , because the Note 10 S Pen has a build in sensor.
Personaly i think the Note 9 is a TOP Phone the way it is .
personally the whole exhibition of the phone itself talked me out of wanting it. Everything about it is gimmicky at best, not a really needed upgrade for me from my N9. not the cameras, pen, battery. nothing screams buy me. So im waiting for the N11 maybe thatll wow me, if not then the N12 maybe

I know the heart rate sensor, headphone jack, dedicated power button ( it's now power/bixby) that's it for the 10+ now the 10 has a lot more, no SD slot lower resolution screen, 256 storage ( I have the 512 note9) battery. That's off the top of my head.
I think that a N9 with a coustom ROM Will be the same as n10+

Maybe the root time has come... note 10 doesn't deserve. The upgrade from note 8 to 9 was nice, but to note 9 to 10... blah...
I really liked the new display but nothing else. I'm really disappointed with note 9 camera and the note 10 camera seems to be the same... so this time is for waiting... or maybe get the tab 6...
Let's wait for firmware updates, maybe we could get something interesting from our big brother.

Does the new Note10 allow single and double press re-mapping of the Bixby/power button, similar to how it works on the Note9?

You would have to ask someone who owns the phone. I just know what youtube reviews said. Either way it's a major negative to me.

theres an article on xda front page news abour all the missed points in the note 10 reveal. and it covers the power button remapping.
Personally if you own a Note 9 there is no reason to upgrade to any of the Note 10s. Unless your device is starting to fail.
I don't have reason to buy Note 10/+. Note 10 is step back compare to Note 9. Like someone wrote- deleted led notification (very useful), jack, heart rate sensor, iris scanner, force touch to wake up?, less battery in standard version Note 10. Next colors- no midnight blue, and only standard black, white and mirror silver isn't step forward. I want 2 level colors like for example in Note 5- titanium silver, platinum gold, sapphire black. Newer isn't always better.
I bought N9 8/512 in november 2018 and now i know that it was good decision. Now I wait for N11 or Pixel 4/5.

the color of a phone should never be a selling point. moreover if it is, it means you dont use protection(case) so even if it comes in the color you want the risk of it breaking, will effectively render it unusable in some way or form and then color is even more irrelevant.
Of course, color it's not selling point but it's hard to difficult that palette of new models are poor.
Colors are only one of disadvantages from my previous reply.
It's similar to buy a new car and his color usually is important, more or less but important.
From Note 5 and 9 I use transparent case. Every new samsung models are boring small bezels, black front and so only back is different.
For me Note 7 in blue coral was nice phone, even today.
