I received my MI8 with unlocked bootloader and global rom today. So I wanted to update my Mi8 via Miflash with fastboot. Somehow the bootloader got locked again and now I cant boot eiter into system nor can I flash another fastboot rom. Need urgent help!
Can you see the menu on your device? Low Volume and Power button.
I can feel you, cause we are in the same boat. I hope that you have bound your phone to your account. The default option in Miflash is to lock the bootloader so when you restarted the phone got bricked. In my case I send the phone back cause when this happend I realized that it was a chinese version with unlocked bootloader and global Rom. Not what I had ordered.
If you have bound your phone to your account you can use Mi unlock to unlock your bootloader but it will take some time.

He will be able to boot in fastboot or recovery mode, but he can't flash any ROM cause phone now is in a locked state.

So, use the MiUnlock tool to try to unlock the bootloader again and flash a China ROM.

Luckily while setting it up I connected it with MiAccount. But I havent enabled Developer Settings.
Yes this is so retarted from Xiaomi that this is default set and hidden in the lower right corner, do they want you to brick your device?

I have contacted Xiaomi support many many times, but they don't recognize Chinese resellers as authorized ones. Even Xiaomi Greece refused to offer me service cause it was a Chinese version and not Global.
I had some Sony's an LG's an unlocking boot loader was a matter of minutes. I am not happy with Xiami's policy but in my opinion in that way they try to stop Chinese resellers to sell Chinese versions as "Global", but I thing they have a lot of unlocked phones.
Just imagine that I found Xiaomi 6GB/256GB for 407 euros.

I think that even if you try this method you still need an account with permission to unlock the bootloader, but I'm not sure.

I think I am in the same situation, I tried to installed the latest China Closed beta (pie) on what I thought was an unlocked Mi8 I have. all worked fine.
But when I tried to fastboot global beta 8.9.6 using mi-flash it got stuck in MI-Recovery.
Now the device info shows an locked and I cant revet back.
not even installing china rom back.
I guess my only option is fastboot image of the latest closed beta china build...

I have sent it back, because I ordered the Global version and not a Chinese one. When I refund I will buy a Xiaomi mi 8 256GB but this will be my choice, and I will know it from the beginning. I think that nothing works because I believe that this is not a bricked phone but a phone in a locked state.

Hello, I have unlocked the bootloader and relock (command fastboot oem lock) by flashing the stock OPWS24.57-40-6 but the following message appears every time I turn on the phone: "your device has loaded to a different operating system". Is there any way to remove it? Thank you.
Mine does that too. I'm pretty sure once you've unlocked, you can't get rid of it. I could be wrong. I just ignore it
That happens to me too. I don't know what to do. I've flashed several roms but it still shows this message. I think that Motorola couldn't do that to their customers. It's bad, mainly if we think about selling our cellphones. I wouldn't buy a cellphone with this kind of message. Let's see if someone was successful removing the advise.
Seems like unlocking bootloader is a CRIME ?
You unlocked the bootloader voiding the warranty. This is your shameful reminder of your sinful deeds.

Hi guys. I would like to know a thing:
I have bought a Mi 8 already unlocked from a shop. If I want to relock the bootloader again and bound my account to it, for future unlocks in case of wrong flash with Mi Flash (default flash mode is: "clean all and relock", that I can also omit to see for error), can I flash China without incurring in a brick? Because the phone will be delivered to me with Global Rom (that I know generate a brick with relocked bootloader).
Thanks to who will answer me.
I have the same question... It's possible change the account used for the bootloader unlock?

Without any other method to do this, we can only relock bootloader and follow the common way to unlock it with own account.

I am using xiaomiadb.exe . You boot in recovery mode and then you drag and drop the rom over xiaomiadb. Pc suit sees the version. I have managed this way to change many roms, but the main problem is the boot loop.

Yes, I have tried everything I could think of. I am afraid that the only solution is to use Mi unlock, but I can't to that because the reseller send me the phone with unlocked bootloader. The program checks at the begging if I have permissions, then checks if the phone is a Mi 8, it passes that test too, but the message I get then is that this phone is not bound to this account.

I have asked Xiaomi Global service about that. They don't offer support. They don't recognize the Chinese e-shops as authorized resellers. And I suppose that a phone can't be bound to two accounts. The only thing I can say for sure is that the global version has a red label on the box and the manual is in English. Watch the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Nx-jjTVh_8&t=107s

So it can't be possible to flash anything (also China, that was the born ROM of this phone) with option "Clean all and relock" of Mi Flash, without incurring in a bootloop?
The fact is that you can bound the phone to every account, if you can boot it with locked bootloader.
But if this can't be done, developer options menu will show you that bootloader is already unlocked, without possibility of bound your own account.
Oh wait, you can't use mi flash because your account it's not authorized for EDL.
Now I have understand because you can't relock bootloader. ?

When miunlock starts it checks if I have permission for EDL. It passes the test. But then it says that my phone is not bound to my account. The bootloader was unlocked so I suppose someone has bound my phone with his account.

I'm having an idea ... My device is about to arrive. It will be a Chinese variant with bootloader unlocked by the store for installation of a global ROM. So if I flashed a Chinese ROM again, I could re-block the bootloader, correct? So I will boot the phone with the blocked bootloader in the Chinese ROM and I can associate my account and unlock the bootloader again, only this time with my own account. Would it work?
Sorry for my english, I'm using the Google Tradutor.

The problem is that you need to bound your account to your Mi 8, otherwise you can't use Mi Flash to relock your phone.
And you also can't lock it by fastboot, because this operation delete recovery and system partitions, generating a total brick.
Unfortunately my current Mi Max 2 was one of these unlucky phones, and I have learn lesson myself.
The best thing that you can do is:
Use last version of Mi PC Suite 3 to flash global and twrp to flash custom, and if you need to return on global from twrp, just flash original Xiaomi recovery and reuse Mi PC Suite 3.

Xiaomi has arrived to Europe, but Chinese version still continue to be less expensive (and interesting), but unfortunately not excluded from this type of inconveniences.
Hello
I bought the Mi8 from China this summer and I decided to unlock it so I can try a few roms ( Xiaomi eu , Pixel 2 Port , Lineage etc. ).
The phone came with Global ROM and unlocked via the unofficial method . My friends advised me to install China Developer MIUI 10 8.8.31 then lock the bootloader and unlock it via the official method and I am waiting 720 hours . In about 10 days the unlock procedure will be finished .
So can you explain which roms can I install ? I will install for now the Global Stable 10.0.2 but I am not the biggest fan of MIUI so I will want to install the Pixel ROM for example in the near future but it's on Android 9.0 . Will I be able to return to MIUI 10 Global Stable with Android 8.1 from any Android Pie ROM or Xiaomi eu ROM ?
Thanks a lot !

If you have unlocked Mi8 it means the seller unlock it unofficial by using EDL method . So that means you can brick your device very easily . If you bought it from China you need to install China Stable/Developer and lock it . Then unlock officially with your account then the phone will be less likely to brick if you know what you are doing .

I was on MIUI Global 10.0.2.0. I rebooted into fastboot and flashed 8.8.31 fastboot china developer rom with MiFlash and "clean all and lock". The phone booted into chinese Mi Recovery without MiFlash finishing procedure. I couldn't use MiFlash again because the bootloader was locked. I tried Mi PC Suite in chinese and tried to recover my phone but it didn't work. I think maybe ARB bricked my phone. I don't know for sure. I had checked arb before with getvar and the result was "FAILED" so I was confident ARB was not present on my phone. When the phone booted in Mi Recovery in chinese... there was no text saying "This MIUI version can not be installed on this device". So I had not installed a global rom by mistake on my Mi8 china device. I don't know for sure what went wrong. Anyway, I unbricked my phone with an edl authorised account I bought at S-unlock and now I'm on china stable rom 10.0.5.0 and I am waiting 15 days to unlock my bootloader. If anybody might have an idea what might have gone wrong please share your opinion. Could it be the USB drivers on Windows 10??? I don't know.

damn, i really have no idea what went wrong. you pretty much did everything by the book and this shouldnt happen. do you remember if you ran getvar anti before or after flashing global?
im asking because as far as i know, official xiomi software should return anti 1 from day to present day. variable unknown suggest reseller tempered with bootloader (to unlock?). but when you fastboot flashed official global it should rewrite everything including bootloader so after it should return 1. i could be wrong on this because im still looking for any real info on this topic. but if you open any fastboot rom tgz and look into flash_all.bat, there is a line thar sets anti to 1. so it should be there from day 1. thanks again for you feedback, lots of people are flashing back to china and locking because other people say it is a good thing to do. your case proves it might not be such a good idea.

DO NOT RE-Lock the Bootloader if you change from China ROM to Global ROM in China phone. Re-Locking will BRICK your phone. Select only "Clean All" option before flashing.
On Locking Bootloader, you MUST visit: On which ROM and Device you CAN and CAN'T Lock Bootloader!
Just follow instructions its quite easy. I have flashed two redmi note 8 global to redmi note 8 indian for one I kept the bootloader open and for other i relocked the bootloader.
Dont hesitate to ask questions if confused
Thank you man

Yeah, I was kinda hoping that they would pay heed to our cries when rolling out MIUI 11, but have been very dismayed. Should have gone for the Redmi Note 7, instead of the 8 if If I had only known about this issue earlier. I am using Drupe and Textra as my dialer and sms app, but it is always better to use stock.
Anyways, I will try to change ROM over the weekend, and post the results.
Is the Arabic language found in the Indonesia ROM ؟

Well, I'm not 100% sure, but unlocking the bootloader means you have to contact Xiaomi in a online method to get an application to do the procedure. So, they will know you have unlocked anyway.

I understood what you meant.
As I sayed, unlocking bootloader envolves a online procedure, and so maybe Xiaomi will know you have unlocked the bootloader. If they have track of serial/IMEI with unlocked bootloader, you local seller can access this list and discover you have unlocked.
But, I'm SUPPOSING they have... Personally, I won't unlock phone on warranty period. Maybe someone else can tell you if I'm right.

These links you provided have a recovery ROM, wich we can flash through stock recovery. Have you tried to flash these ROMs from phone?
I mean the method of tapping MIUI logo on "About phone" settings 11 times, and then open the new menu at right top corner.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the thread that you shared with me, in the list of roms I see several regions but I am not sure if any corresponds to Indonesia, correct me if I am wrong. I would have liked that the thread had been specific to the Redmi Note 8 Pro, because it is very easy to get a brick.
---------
I understand that it is multilanguage, so if the Global ROM comes with Portuguese, is also should have it.

At this moment I am in the waiting period of 168hrs to get the unlock. Xiaomi understands that you unlocked the bootloader since you made the request? or until the wait for 168 hours ends and you perform the procedure ?
If the waiting period of 168 hrs ends and I decide to let the warranty period pass, when I tried to unlock the bootloader again, would I have to wait again ?, that is, when passing a Long period of time, the hour meter restarts?
If at this moment I am in the waiting period, I get an update via OTA, does this interfere with the waiting period for the bootloader unlock?
Thanks for the patience.

That link is for every MIUI device, correct me if I'm wrong. But you're right, isn't clear if the "IN" on that images are Indian or Indonesian. I can't tell you if exists any differences, also. Sorry.
About the unlock, you are only waiting a "code" to unlock your phone. Your request don't means you already unlocked (by the way, you will be able to unlock after the time period ends). I believa will be no problems with OTA, since the Mi account you used to make the request is still on the phone (don't remove the account or reset your phone while you are waiting the code!).
Can't tell if the period to unlock have a timeline, but I believe it don't have. Once you get the permission, it is binded with your Mi account and that specific device, so probally is permanent.
Once you received the code, you will input it on Mi Unlocker. Once done, you're unlocked, and Xiaomi knows you unlocked
the bootloader. But, as I sayed... I'm not sure, I'm supposing this is the way.
Thanks for the info about languages.

Why do you want to flash the ROM of India ?, Do not mind losing the NFC?
I flashed the ROM of Indonesia in my Redmi Note 8 PRO, it is multilanguage and does not lose NFC. Then lock the bootloader without any problem.
What method to use?
In fastboot run the following command:
fastboot oem lock.
Before closing the bootloader, I recommend that you make a backup, because you will lose everything.
unfortunately , i relocked my k20 pro's bootloader from mi flash tool. now my phone doesnot bootup. redmi recovery is still there. cannot flash fastboot roms via mi flash tool. it says "erase boot error" . cannot proceed to official unlock process either, because, mi account not binded .please help me ! what should i do now?
I have the same problem. i think the only way is EDL mode and miflash tool.

please, help me step by step for EDL mode+mi flash
I just had a similar situation. Only fix is to open up phone and use EDL test points, then find a service offering Xiaomi authorized account to login and flash correct region ROM. You can then bind account and unlock after 7 days.

What you mean with Xiaomi authorized account service?
Normal users can't use EDL flash on this phone, there is an additional authorization process that cannot by bypassed (phone sends a token and expects a signed response from Xiaomi servers). So you have to login to a Xiaomi account which is authorized to use EDL flash. These are generally service center accounts, but you can find some shady looking services online that will log in with their authorized Xiaomi account for a fee.
please, is there any other way to just boot up my k20 pro? it still has fastboot and redmi recovery. please somebody help me !
