Battery life is terrible. com.att.iqi.Wakelock - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Attached is a pic from better battery stats. Is this com.att.iqi.Wakelock carrier iq from att? I disabled the package just now but what other screen shots would someone need to help me figure this out? I'm half tempted to return the phone the battery life is so bad. I unplug the phone at 630 go to work and by 430 it's at 40ish percent. It's insane and I'm not even using the phone.

Question do you have poor/no service at work. Having the phone constantly look for a connection it can get to will most likely drain your battery life fast. Here's a screenshot of mine to compare. And I used mine

I have bad service where I live but that didn't have as big of an effect on my iphones battery. I love the note but maybe Android just doesn't handle middle of the road service the way the iPhone does? I have WiFi on and wifi calling on at work and home so that's more baffling to me than anything else.

That screenshot doesn't tell anything. I almost wonder if you are trolling. At&t is bad with network congestion and slow speeds even if coverage is great. iPhone is bad. Worse on At&t. I don't see what your battery percentage is and your stats seem to tell you just took it off the charger. Have you disabled 2g/GSM? Have you themed your phone? Have you stopped comparing it to iPhone? (Of which it has smaller screen and lower resolution) None of my iPhones in Houston area have ever had better battery life that my daily driver Android phones. I have to use wifi at home because signal is terrible at my house and network congestion is from 6am-6pm or longer. Even after those times at&t is slow even with preferential treatment to iPhones.

Wow way to jump off topic calling me a troll. Very informative and helpful. Attached is a better pic that shows iqi and Ims services wakelocking being left off the charger overnight. This is after a factory reset with Odin and debloating using ADB. If more information is needed, ask dont bash. It's uncalled for.

Battery Life Question for Those Using DJ_Steeve's ROM

How's the battery life with RIL enabled? Significant improvement, or still pretty crappy?
I heard someone awhile ago say they couldn't get through Avatar on a full charge. Is this still the case, even with tweaks?
I'm considering picking up the S7 as my main unit (ditching my OG Droid at last), and I need to know if it's even feasible. I would love to do this, but if I can't get through a day I can't do it. Here are things I'm thinking of doing:
-DJ_Steve's ROM with RIL enabled
-Juice Defender to set my 2G/3G/4G settings; 4G for internet/calls, 3G/2G for notifications/idle/gaming/etc. (depending on which is lower battery consumption).
What kind of battery life can I expect? I still have to get out of my VZW contract (ought to be this month), so I'm still researching what the best solution will be for me. I really want a 4G, dual core, 7" tablet. I've used the Streak 7 at the T-Mo store and I love it (screen is great, unit was very snappy; 4G seemed a bit slow, but it was during peak hours).
So, anyone test their battery life and see any improvements over stock?
Haven't tried any wifi calling on my ds7. Using stock 2.2.2 and I can get about 3-4 hours of playback using rockplayer before battery dies. Doubt you'd make it through the day. It seems to drain some battery even on standby.
Sent from my Dell Streak 7 using XDA Premium App
Well, I couldn't get out of my Verizon contract and I didn't really get an answer to my question, so I really had only one choice.
I got a Streak 7 this last weekend. Logic be damned!
Loving this thing, so far. I got it rooted/Rom'd (thanks to all that worked on that!). Battery conservation while maintaining data connectivity is a big issue for me, so I'll be tweaking a few things and seeing how it goes. I'll report whatever I find out.
So, ril-off will disable all mobile data (thanks, Hellzya!). That's not an option, as this is now my main device. For anyone else in my boat, here are a couple of things that might work:
This app is basically a shortcut to your network system settings. Seems to work fine; I'm using it to toggle to 2G when I'm not using the device (but still want to get notifications), and then 3G/4G when I am. The S7 switches between HSPA and GSM a lot when I'm at my house due to me being on the fringe of a 4G tower; I'll see if this fixes that issue and report back.
This thread has another app that will automatically switch to 2G when the screen is off. I have yet to try it, but I'll update once I do.
Long live the battery!
Update: From what I'm reading, the HSPA antenna uses less juice than the EDGE one, so I've been setting it to HSPA only. Underclocked as much as possible when the screen is off (216, I believe), and overclocked to 1200 (lower Quadrant, of course, but I don't notice a performance degradation).
I had it off the charger all day, yesterday, and then tethered my Cr48 to it for quite some time. I was off the charger at ~7AM, started tethering at ~9PM. I had maybe 20-30% battery at that time. I hadn't used it much that day; just some light internet usage, ~15 minutes of streaming Pandora (high quality setting), one VOIP call, and a few, benchmark tests. After about 30-60 minutes of tethering, the battery was in the red so I hooked it up to the charger and continued to tether.
So far, so good. The battery is livable, but by no means great. This wasn't a really big usage day, though, but at least the idle isn't eating up too much juice. I'll have to see what kind of heavy usage I can get out of it (tethering, video streaming, etc.).
Hoping, of course, that HC gives us back some precious battery life.

[HOT!]Charging problems, false drain readings, dialer issue, battery life, SOLUTION

Hey guys,
I would like to make your situation easier, so you don't have to read like 1000s of forum threads to get information I'm giving you here. These are the issues I faced with my incredible s, and the so called solutions.
The device:
Stock EU htc incredible s/ htc droid incredible 2 on Gingerbread. NO software mods at all.
According to my knowledge the same applies to the htc desire s and the htc desire hd as well. Most of these problems come forward after updating to gingerbread. If you are still on froyo, I wouldn' recommend updating.
1st issue. High standby drain.
According to Currentwidget and battery monitor my incredible s doesn't have lower battery consumption in standby than 38Mah.
Solution:
Drain readings are corrupted, there is a bug involved.
In reality You only have around 5-6Mah drain in standby.
Proof.
Left phone in standby for 2 days without messing with it, ended up with 40% left.
So if you have a minimum of 40Mah drain for two days. (48hours x40Ma=1920Ma) The battery's capacity is no more than 1500Ma, so it's obvious that standby drain readings are corrupted.
IGNORE drain readings!
2nd issue: You take it off the charger and it's 95%
Some say that phone charges till 100% than shuts charging down till battery reaches 90%, than charging starts again.
Some say our Lithium battery cannot get charged till 100% which is normal. This is the reason our device doesn't show % in notification area.
Solution: Ignore battery monitor, use inbuilt battery charge indicator, and be happy.
If you want to test battery life, start test at 90% and your test won't be corrupted.
3rd issue: Dialer using too much battery.
This might to be a bug as well. Still to be confirmed. The dialer doesn't use that much of power it only gets stuck in built in battery use indicator giving false drain data.
Some say it doesn't stop using proximity sensor after being in a call, hence the big drain. Incredible s's proximity sensor is visible during call, check it in the dark, it blinks. After call it stays inactive. So the dialer using it 24/7 seems to be a false statement.
4th issue: Declining calls in pocket.
When taking or declining a call, you swipe vertically on the screen. If you have your phone in your pocket with the screen facing your body, you can easily take or decline some calls when pulling out. This is more likely if you have a pocket made of thin material.
Solution: Put your phone in your pocket with the battery cover facing your leg. Don't worry about bumping into like a table corner and smashing your screen. Our gorilla glass is almost indestructible. Using a pouch or cover does the trick as well.
Not sure why htc is so obsessed with the vertical answer procedure. With horizontal swipe we wouldn't have this problem and users have been complaining about this since the desire came out.
5th Issue: Wifi disconnects when signal low, but still would be fine under froyo.
Connection gets disconnected when signal is 86db or lower.
This is a gingerbread related problem, htc cannot do anything about it.
No solution just yet.
For those who complain about battery life, I am on gingerbread with loads of apps installed and with very heavy use 3hours of display, wifi, skype, internet browsing I can use the phone for 12 hours. With moderate use min 2 days.
Battery saving tipps:
-Don't let google and htc sync. It uses lot of data and battery resources.(I don't like my sensitive data to be copied on their servers anyway.) Sync with your pc regularly.
- If u use data for e-mail and weather sync, use Gsm only mode, you don't need that much of speed for those, turn WCDMA on if u need it for skype, etc. Hspda and 3g are big battery killers.
-Everything on manual sync. There is a sync all widget in sense to use. U can hit it anytime you want to.
-No live wallpaper
-Hotspot uses excessive amount of battery. Use it on charger only.
-Screen light to be turned down. Use Screen filter app nighttime.
-Turn wifi and mobile data off when not in use, so phone can sleep properly. (wifi timeout app)
-Turn off wireless network positioning.
-Keep bluetooth off when not in use.
-Select short screen timeout like 15s.
-Screen on time is the main culprit in appalling battery life. Use your watch to check time rather than turning the screen on.
-If u struggle to find 3g or Hspda for data or network itself, change provider, because no matter what phone u have, u will have this problem. Try to find spots in your flat with better signal for data. Searching for network uses a lot of battery.
-Try to charge your phone from 0% overnight with the phone off for a couple of times (8-12hrs)
-When gps is on it doesn't mean that it uses battery. If you see the sattelite icon blinking or just on, that's when it uses battery, a significant amount of battery.
-Consider buying the official extended battery available in US (droid incredible 2 2100Mah), coming to EU soon. I wouldn't recommend buying the unofficial ones just now.
Obviously if you apply some of these battery life will be better. If you apply all of them, battery life will be exceptional.
Hope I helped.
Have fun guys!
Hi!
Thanks you for this! I buy my incredible s a couple of days ago, upgraded instantley. I met most of these problems and now I am happyer with my phone knowing these.
Could you give link to the battery you wrote about???
i appreciate what you're trying to do - but if you are going to follow all those steps you might as well have bought a nokia 3210
"Use your watch to check time rather than turning the screen on"
i mean.... really??
As I said, you don't have to follow all the steps.
You might face conditions when you need every drop of your juice, so it's good to know how to get the most out of your battery, isn't it?

It's for the droid incredible 2, but thats equivalent to Incredible s.
Sorry if this seems sarcastic, but if you're gonna buy a smartphone and turn everything that makes it a smartphone off, then save yourself a few hundred quid and buy a Nokia 1100
I use mine to sync everything and anything I want, and don't worry about it, as long as it lasts the day, which it does, I'm happy.

you misinterpreted what the op said. He is just stating what you could do if you found yourself in a situation where you had to maximize battery usage. Obviously most of us are around an outlet or usb plug most of the day so that we can charge the phone often.
Thanks for the info OP. I just wish that current widget would show us the right info. Or some other app :/
Thanks for the info OP. My buddy has had endless problems with his Incredible. I'll Chrome to Phone this thread and send it to him!

Its not the apps fault, the phone just reports wrong. So any other app should also fail.
@superman, perhaps a faulty app is causing the problems
Wifi issue should be resolved with the ota update.
However there is a network at my workplace which I couldn't connect to. I guess it is some kind of wifi repeater, it doesn't look like an actual wifi router. There is no cable connecting to it. Apparently I can connect but I get 0 signal next to it. Others can connect with full signal. Any idea?

It is FAR from "almost" indestructible. Some people also say it's impossible to scratch it, yet mines been scratched (this AND nexus one) It's nice glass but indestructible? I think not, not even "almost"

Live wall papers do eat your battery, but it's almost close to nothing. I've read that whatever uses more than 2% of your battery will be displayed in the "battery usage" I've used live wallpapers and it's never even shown that. (I think it also depends on what kind of wallpapers you use though.. let's say you had one that interacted with you) perhaps that might drain more battery.. but who turns on their phone to play with their wallpaper lmao
I've tested and disabling google sync barely makes a diff. I also don't think it uses a lot of data. I don't completely disagree with you though, manual sync is probably a better idea. On the other hand, I don't really think Hspda/3g are big battery killers, I notice that if you use the browser, the battery drops quick. Let's say you used "gsm" / "2G" and the webpage takes longer to load whereas 3G would have it loaded within seconds.. Which would waste more battery? I'm not 100% sure but I'd say just keep 3G and turn on 2G if you're not doing anything else with your phone. To my surprise, 2G is horribly slow.

Completely false. This is only a cover on top of your screen. It doesn't change the power being outputted to the screen. If you look at what RogerProdacter is making, you'll see that he's trying to modify the phones brightness output.

Disagree again. It's really up to user though, that's insane. I'd be pissed if my phone kept shutting off in 15s! What you can actually do is turn off the phone yourself or get something like Lock screen widget which instantly turns off your screen. Two reasons it's better - You don't have to worry about the timeout - you shut it off sooner than 15s.

that's crazy.. You're saying that for us to check battery life/uptime we should use our watches? That's insane! That's a lot of effort to keep track JUST for your battery. Is it worth it? (I wouldn't think so.. but it's up to whoever uses it lol..)

I don't know what kind of world you live in, sounds way too good to be true. Just instantly change providers eh? Where I live.. that's not really easy to do. I'm sure most people getting cell phones would have enough common sense to pick something that works in their area anyway.

3 tricks to get your cell phone battery lasts longer

What's one thing that cell phone users worry about? When cell phones are getting bigger and processors are getting smaller, there is still one aspect of cell phones remains the same. Perhaps you've already got answer in your mind, that is the battery. The breakthrough in battery field, in recent years, hasn't made any progress yet. Even though we can't do anything on improving, we still can make our battery last longer by learning some tips and tricks.
The first tricks is about screen brightness. The brighter the screen, the faster you will see your battery dead. Screen is the biggest power consumer in a smartphone. The easiest way to solve this problem is to use automatic brightness adjustment. Also sometimes brighter screen might damage your eyes. Turn down a little bit for your own good.
The second trick is about Bluetooth. If there is no bluetooth module in your smartphone, that's very nice, but most of smartphone have one. Bluetooth can consumer battery faster than you think. If you keep bluetooth on for a while, you might see the speed of battery decreasing by naked eyes. Please remember, always turn off Bluetooth when you don't need it.
Last but no least, it is about mobile network signal. Network signal do have effects on battery consuming. Low network signal will drain your battery much faster. However, there is nothing you can about this but you know the problem and might think to change carriers that offers better coverages.

[Q] Verizon Moto X with AT&T sim battery drain?

So I've finally switched from VZW to AT&T on my XT1060. Data and everything works great, but I've noticed a considerable hit to battery life after popping in the new AT&T sim. Where I used to get a whole day's worth of battery (anywhere from 18-20 hours with about 3 hours SOT), I now maybe get 10-12 hours tops with barely 1.5 hours SOT. I wish I had screenshots to share, but I currently don't have any. I haven't noticed any wakelocks or abnormal app behavior, so I can't pinpoint the culprit. My only guess is an issue with the sim itself or something else. Does anyone have ideas or experienced anything similar?

Funny you mention this as I was about to make a similar post!
Same situation basically, took a VZW Moto x and as of a few days ago ported to Consumer Cellular (AT&T). Battery life has been terrible, though while nothing has changed program or application wise, my guess was more battery being used for the radio connection?
I need to review some battery stats and post some images, but today I had the phone on for 8 hours with about 1hr talk and 1 hour screen time and it's at 10%. this didn't happen last week!!
Need Gsam screen shots to help. Otherwise it's all guesses. ?
Get those and we can see. Fromm 100 to near dead is best before taking them.
Well I got the new Moto X for my birthday surprisingly, so this isn't an issue for me anymore. But, if you guys do find anything I am interested in knowing.
What is your signal like on AT&T if it's bad it can drain your battery much faster than when used on Verizon (if you signal is strong with them).
Got up this AM and left my phone on overnight to see the impact with no usage...

Not sure I get the Textra and calendar situation?
This is using Consumer Cellular on my VZW XT1060, perhaps I don;t have the correct GSM bands for my local towers?
Right now I'm getting a good HSPA+ signal(-89bdm) but I noticed the phone had switched network type from LTE/GSM/UMTS to Global the other day, perhaps that's a factor?!
Chip
Or perhaps more appropriate are today's results...
The radio interface kernel wakelock is the one hurting I think.... And that's usually due to a poor signal while on data. The 3 hours your were NOT on wifi, was your signal very low? If you can next charge, can you post your stock battery screen graph? If there's a lot if yellow or red in your bar for signal... While not on wifi.... That is likely your issue.
Nothing else in your screens looks out of place.
Darth,
I believe you are correct in that the signal it's finding (that the VZW DE supports) is a strain, I'm seeing a fair amount of yellow. I'll post an image.
I had hoped to be able to get some decent life out the VZE version of my X to warrant not having to buy a GSM version, looks like that might not happen!

Question Battery life not as expected

So i got my S21 Ultra a couple of weeks ago and the battery life isn't as good as people tell it to be... I wonder if this is normal or i have a faulty unit
Important: i am running the latest update on my exynos device (february security patch as of the making of this thread)
What do you expect? You have used the phone almost 12 hours, used Samsung Music for nearly 8 hours and still have 78% battery left lol. This is great.

The SoT is pretty crap i can only get 5 to 6 hours if i'm lucky, all i do is watch youtube and netflix and nothing else pretty much, and since SoT is pretty important to me idk if i should wait for an update or get another unit
If you are comparing to a Chinese phone, I would agree that the battery life is not great. Before buying S21 Ultra(exynos), I was using Mi 10T pro. It has better battery performance than S21 Ultra. The other thing that I dislike about would be the heat issue on S21 Ultra. Its horrible.
SOT is only one measure of battery life, the battery still depletes when the screen is off, especially if you're doing something like listening to music for 7 hours......
If you saw the YouTube 'battery drain' tests, the majority are in a room, mobile turned off and on WIFI. They are in constant use with minimal ramping/up down of the processor as they only switch apps every hour. These guys achieve up to 9 hours with constant use in optimal conditions.
If you extrapolate out your current usage you're on for 7 hours with 51 hours total, which is very very strong. People would kill for that endurance
At best you can expect 0.5% an hour drain if you aren't using the phone, but that's if you literally leave it overnight and don't touch it. More likely it'll be between 1-2% depending on usage, so if you calculate you've had roughly 10 hours of screen off, that's about 10% battery that isn't being used on screen on time, which equates to roughly an hour of SOT 'missed out on' if you were just to run the device with the screen on for the sake of it.
If you're truly only concerned about SOT, run a day without music in the background and see the improvement. It's a nonsensical thing to do as that's not how you use your phone, but will get you the numbers you want...
You're also using a high end processor and a large screen with a high refresh rate, it's going to use more juice than a mid range or low end phone. If you send that phone back, someone else is going to be very happy when they get it as their replacement

Yes if you want the same smoothness and a good 10% better battery you can use the 96hz mod
Put brightness on manual. The display eats a lot of the battery. Try to keep it at 50% or less.
Turn off all animations and use dark mode/dark wallpapers. Junk like tic-tok, fb don't help.

Tweeter just as bad as fb. Full boycott on all that junk until they f-f-fade away
Been using manual brightness control for over a year on my 10+. Occasionally I toggle it on but rarely. Going full brightness will greatly reduce OLEDs finite lifespan. Blue goes first... and the burnout isn't even. If I can get 5 years with just a battery change or two, I want it.
So far between Samsung's and Android's weak offerings I have zero incentive to upgrade hardware or firmware

Yes but if you are using them in tge browser they cant suck your battery up and im only using them for roughly 10minutes a day so no problem. But youre right they are like malware... Traking your location every few minutes and that ****

I do 20-30% charges throughout the day.
Crap like Twitter and fb can cost you your job as well as privacy leading you open to attacks of all kinds. Zero rewards and lots of risk. No.
Remember the night of the long knives?
Think how much easier it be to do now...
Has there been testing on the battery effect of different wireless network modes, including while being connected to Wi-Fi?
I understand that 5G uses more battery, but I'm curious how that is affected when you remain connected to Wi-Fi for all data transfers (using 5G just for calls and texts).
Same question for the other network modes, like LTE/3G/2G vs LTE/2G etc. Or also when you are not connected to Wi-Fi.
I can't help worry that some people are getting bad battery life because they have a poor network signal?
Only rough but very little difference between 4g and WiFi when still, and that's in a location with 2 bars signal. Seems like the phone sleeps better with mobile data on.
It's hard to make a direct comparison with WiFi Vs network, as a lot of the network drain is when moving and polling for new antenna. When looking at signal strength, 4g/5g have the same dBm and 3g/2g have the same dBm, but 4g needs less dBm for a higher transfer rate than 3g, so may use less power over time.
Also I don't think 5g is inherently more power hungry than 4g (I may be wrong), again it's just less available and shorter radio waves, and until now 5g has relied on external modems.
Exactly, I wonder if our S21 Ultra is much better with battery life on 5G, because our SoC includes the 5G modem and it's not external?
My desire is to just keep my phone on 5G while I'm at home idle and the phone is connected to home Wi-Fi. I wonder if there is a battery savings to be had if I switch to LTE while I'm at home on Wi-Fi and the phone is just idle.
