I'm sure this will be locked or reported by some tard but dang, I just gotta vent this out now.
What in the name of all that is f'n sensible does everyone and their brother come here and open a thread about the reason why they didn't/won't/will never buy this tablet?
In case you haters and nit pickers don't know, us buyers do know it doesn't have a rear camera, no HDMI out, no haptic feedback and other missing things.
I could explain to you as the hundreds of others have as to the reasons behind all of that, but it will not matter. Someone will post in 5 minutes how it was a deal breaker because it didn't have a 15 million pixel super retina display.
Anyway, feel better now. Flame away.

It's because the internet is full of morons and they think xda is a general Android forum where they can come and ***** and whine. Take it to Android Central I say! Leave xda for the rooters, ROMers, and modders who actually love their devices and use xda for what it is actually meant for.
This is very important. It should be stickied.
I agree. I love this tablet just the way it is. I purchased it knowing what was missing. Despite the features not included, everything else more than makes up for it. yeah, I would've loved to have those extra things also, but they weren't a deal breaker for me. for the last 6+months I've used my Prime every single day as mines is a great device(unlocked, rooted, running custom rom & kernel). Ever since I bought this Nexus 7, my Prime isn't getting the attention like I use to give it. my prime + keyboard dock is more powerful, versatile, and overall better than my Nexus 7. But the experience out the box with it is nothing short of amazing. its far more portable & I would've never thought I would like the 7in. form factor so much. so my Nexus 7 compliments my Prime very well. I really like the Nexus 7 and the Nexus experience.
But yeah, threads created talking about why they didn't buy the device is pointless. at least post the comments in existing threads. no need for a new thread everytime Joe schmo doesn't like something about this tablet..lol
p.s. I posted this from my prime. which I forced myself to use today, since I haven't used it as much lately. now its time to take my nexus 7 off the charger and use it..lol. its running great on stock JB and motley custom linario kernel.
Ugh. I was so looking forward to the Nexus 7 and then I read that it can't turn into a hoverboard! The nerve of Google and ASUS to leave out something so important like that! DEALBREAKER!!!
Agreed. Endless whining and nitpicking over petty insignificant and quick to RMA for like the 10th time over something they wouldn't have noticed until they read about it online. And, lacking the common sense to revert to stock to rule out quirks.

I get where you coming from but it's useless to tell that to people unless you just wanna get that off your chest cause they will ask dumb questions and there's nothing we can do about it except mods, that's one of the reasons they're here. It's not just the internet it's people in general lol.

Well, why would they think otherwise when they can and do come here to ***** and whine and their accounts are never deleted, they are never sent warning messages by mods, their posts are never deleted, etc. For all intents and purposes, despite the name of the site, it is a general Android forum for people to ***** and whine.
Totally agree! Then when something comes out that has those “deal breaking" things that they whine about, they begin to complain about price and how they can't justify paying the higher cost. Still waiting for mine lol scoping out the section. Haha.

Odd.... I know....

I'd marry the Nexus 7 if it could make me delicious sammiches and give me BJs on demand.
But alas, it is only a tablet so I will only use it as it was designed.

In my opinion, the tablet is a tablet, nothing more. Why do I need to take photos with it when I can use a camera? Why do I need to make a phonecall when I have a phone?
People expect too much from technology these days. And they expect top technology for minimum money.

So far this forum for me is a breath of fresh air. The phone forums are so full of hate, trolls, attacks, name calling, disrespecting developer's work and the usual douche stuff.
Of course its here too, just no where near as bad yet. Yet. I hope it stays that way because its so much nicer to thank people than report them.
This may be a gay post but some mods fell the same way. Anyway, glad I got the n7 and glad I'm here.

Yeah this has been awesome, reminds me of the HD2 forums, at least back when nand android became available, the vivid forums are crazy, these ones are nice.
This forum and the AT&T One X forums have been the best. The OG EVO 4G forums were good in the beginning but it got worse and worse over time. Same thing goes for the Epic 4G Touch. I know I'm guilty of some warranted snarky responses from time to time (Search first!) but I never actually attack anybody on a personal level like I've seen in some other subforums. We are all here for the same purpose so why can't we all just get along?

Yep, the more popular a device gets, the more trolling and flaming becomes a problem. It's inevitable.
XDA is legit in general, probably one of the nicest put together forums on the web. The new layout really sets it off.

It was all fields and everyone used to be on first name terms with each other.
Then the devices came, then they got popular then the neighbourhood went to pot.
>Then the devices came, then they got popular then the neighbourhood went to pot.
Why, when I was your age...
Pining for the golden yesteryear is a popular pasttime, but it's usually distorted by people's selective memory. Reminescing is futile anyway. What matters is how XDA manages the additional influx while still retaining some semblance of its core identity, and not let itself lapsed into another generic techie hang-out.
The dev sub-forum restrictions have been the main instrument in that. But it would be nice to see more care in other areas. The site's UI and layout was never good--check out the classic vs 2010 vs 2013 beta layouts--and now has turned for the worse.
We're not just talking about personal preference for aesthetics, but dirt-basic design concepts like text reflows vs fixed-width. The basic web UI now has orange-on-white. Who thinks up this stuff?
It would also be nice to see more creative solutions to navigate the huge traffic volume and decreasing sig2noise ratio. The most-recent-on-top scheme and the encouragement of long threads effectively bury most valuable info, as informative threads tend to have few inputs, and are pushed off by argumentative or more inane material. I suppose XDA is shackled by its forum software here, but one can hope for better.
Then again, maybe not.
I was a regular over at the SGT7 forums for a few months, didn't see too much name calling and stuff like that.

Don't take this the wrong way but when the US market opened up the s/n ratio plummeted.
Kids will be kids, wherever, but the US teen speaks a dialect of English and this is a predominantly English forum.
There are many native French & German / Nordic fora although many non native English speakers from Europe speak and type better English than many English teenagers and have better manners.

I live in the US, although I'm not a native, so I empathize both sides of the coin.
That said, attributing the deterioration of online communication to any nationality or ethnic group isn't a grounded argument. English is still the lingua franca of the Internet at this point, and the US user population is still the largest group. Failings from them tend to be magnified by their numbers.
I agree that there is a marked decline in social/communicative exchanges online. It's a little sad to see people don't even bother to correct obvious spelling mistakes, let alone correct grammar. Any attempt to better such is derided as grammar nazis.
But it is what it is, and it reflects the population at large, who also exhibited a marked decline in analytic thinking and social discourse. No amount of handwringing or reminescing will change that. And it is an equal-opportunity malaise in that it affects every online population, not just the US population.
It's kind of sad...
It's a bit like saying the Nexus 7 forums only murders 10 innocent children a week so it's not as bad as other forums who murders at least 100 innocent children and their mothers on a weekly basis.
It's unfortunate but unless the moderators are extremely active (and well-staffed) chances are the trolls will ruin it for everyone sooner or later.
Especially now it's the summer and there is nothing pimply-faced 13-year-olds like to do more than to troll forums in between playing the latest shooter on their MicroSony PlayBox, stuffing themselves with greasy pizza and masturbate.

While I appreciate you taking the time in making a video, I really don't see the need or value in it.
There are already dozens (probably more) of Nexus 7 unboxings for the 8GB and 16GB models. The 32GB is identical in every way, outside of the internal flash chip. Nothing new to see.
Of course, you are right, there may be many others unboxing video about Nexus 7 in 16Gb and 8GB version.
Maybe someone hasn't seen them yet and wants to see directly the 32gb one.
Maybe I'm giving more technical specs than others, maybe not (did you see my video before this post?).
Maybe someone wants to know what version does this nexus come with?! Maybe not!
I shoot this video just for my pleasure (and I hope for someone else pleasure too!), at night ('cause I have a job and a family) and, most of all, without earining a single damn penny for it.
I'm sorry if I did bore you: next time maybe you can even just skip a thread like this if you are not interested!
Thanks

You seem to be missing the point. No one is attacking you for making the video. Everyone has been polite about the matter (except for you). What everyone is simply saying is, that there is no purpose in making an "unboxing" video for a product that was released 4 months ago. No one is going to watch it since everyone here already unboxed their own. The purpose of those types of videos is for when a product first comes out, so people who haven't picked theirs up yet, or are on the fence about buying one, can see what it's all about. And while your video might have some more technical information in it, most people on XDA are already well familiar with the specs and details. And the fact that it has 32GB is irrelevant. It's like making a duplicate car test drive video for a new model that has a different A/C filter in it.
Lastly, if all you wanted was positive feedback, you probably shouldn't have posted anything on the Internet in the first place.
"Useless" = every post in this thread except the OP.
OP: it's better to just ignore these comments and not respond. Thanks for the video.

Am I asking you for a positive feedback? Can you please point me where?
I'm open to any possible feedback, when the feedback it's a constructive one.
I don't think I've been unkind or unpolite in any ways. Instead, I do think it's unpolite and even unfair to judge someone else video without even watching it. As well as it's unpolite (and not only) to believe to be representative of a whole community. Do you think XDA is made up only of skilled people? Do you think the whole XDA members live in Us?
I do perfectly know what does an unboxing video means as well as I know Nexus 7 was announced in June and went on the market middle July in Us and Australia. But maybe you don't remember that not every country has Nexus 7 yet, or that maybe in some others it went on sale later (here in Italy nexus 7 @16GB started being sold on late September/ beginning of October, while Nexus 7 @32Gb will start at middle November).
Having these thoughts in my mind and considering that I tried to be as more technical as I can, I just though that this unboxing could be useful to someone, if not, I'm not forcing anyone in watching it.
Thanks for your constructive feedback anyway.

People who have issue with the video, why don't you guys just skip it. As per your logic there are several flavors of AOSP roms, and people should stick with only one and rest of the dev simply call it a day. If you guys cannot appreciate someone's work then don't criticize is either.

We here at xda are tinkerers and perfectionists. We care about esoteric things like benchmarks and measure load times by the millisecond. The slightest hitch and we can't sleep at night for the nightmares of lag monsters and stutter beasts. We flash the newest rom just to flash something new and risk burning our expensive toys up overclocking them until they BSOD.
But you know that the reality is we enthusiasts make up a tiny part of the market for this tablet. Read the reviews of everyday users at retail sites and they are THRILLED with the gorgeous screen, speed and functionality of this new marvel. They regularly comment that the Tab S is THE BEST tablet they have ever used...period. Most of them even like Touchwiz, god forbid.
And you know what? Samsung doesn't make tablets for us here at xda, it makes them for Joe The Jackhammer Operator and Suzy Homemaker. It makes them for average folks who would sooner watch paint dry as spend 5 minutes arguing technological nuance at xda.
So yeah, the Tab S isn't perfect (what is?) but for the folks it is designed for it's pretty damned close.
Although you have to be a techno geek to even be aware of and consider buying the expensive Tab S.

According to xRevilatioNx the Tab S is a stuttering lagfest with abysmal web browsing performance. I guess you are just imagining things
P.S., I agree with you. Tab S rocks.

Using Chrome I haven't had any noticeable issues browsing
Edit: also can't forget the great battery life I have gotten so far on 10.5
Using Chrome Beta and this tweak (chrome://flags/#max-tiles-for-interest-area = 512) for my web browsing, mostly.
Also using Dolphin for flash and Amazon Prime videos.
Just rooted to remove the extra things I don't need or want, and to tweak the multi windows settings.
Since I like giving back I have extra Square Trade discount codes for those that need them (PM - While supplies last).
I took out a 2 year Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) plan on this puppy in-case I demolish it!

Aw... still butt hurt? From the guy who lost ALL CREDIBILITY on this forum, based on assumption and zero facts.. For anyone who wants to see, you can go read his "abysmal" thread about javascript, and see how mitchelvii got his azz handed to him. Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2813634
Lastly, for anyone who wants to see how the stock browser performs backed with actual benchmark testing & video demos (actual facts), You can goto the troubleshooting forum, and give it a read. Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2813695

Lol wow. You've pretty much gotten to the point where every post you make breaks a list of forum rules. Oh well, I sort of expected that.
Anyway, like I said, don't believe your lying eyes or the thousands of glowing reviews from owners across the web. The Tab S sucks, xRevilatioNx said so and he has benchmarks to prove it! Try to ignore that he constantly contradicts himself claiming that the Asus is both much faster than the Tab S and just as "slow" - he can't seem to decide based upon the argument he is trying to make.
So xRev, there is the vast majority that thinks the Tab S is fast and fantastic and then there's you. Funny, was at the BestBuy website earlier reading post after post about how fast the Tab S is, and then there was just one post talking about how laggy and stuttering it was. I thought, my god, xRev finally gave his BestBuy review! A 1 star review in a sea of 5 star feedback.
The Tab S is an amazing piece of hardware held back only by Touchwiz and in part what I believe are security protocols they implement (you are aware Touchwiz implements security right?). Regardless, most folks love Touchwiz and most people is who Samsung cares about.
P.S., xRev, I think you're lost. Shouldn't you be cheerleading over at the Asus website? And oh, the javascript thread? I won that debate. As soon as you started calling names and using contradictory "evidence" it was over.
Yay Tab S!

Thanks, yep its a great tablet.
I'm just curious. Why does a person who clearly hates the Tab S and considers it "abysmal" spend so much time in this forum? Why not just return it and go to the forum of the tablet they love? I don't think I would keep a $500 tabĺet I thought was terrible.

What an self-aborted, arrogant comment. Who do you think you are? Are you better than the average consumer because you have an XDA account?

Lol, WHAT?!
I sing the praises of the Tab S and discuss how the average consumer isn't bothered by the picky stuff we care about here at xda and somehow that makes me self absorbed? Sorry dude you lost me on that one.
@ Rev, do you own the Tab S? If so, why since you consider it abysmal? If not, why are you here?
If you read comments from actual owners at retail sites you will see that you are in a very small minority of those who consider this device "abysmal". Most feel this is the best tab they've ever owned. Oh well, as I said why don't you leave those of us who enjoy the fine Tab S alone and go back to your Asus forum?
WHY are you here?
Guys, it's bad enough that you both are ruining the discussion for the rest of us in one topic, but now you're ruining it in others. Neither of you is ever going to "win" this argument so either end it or take it somewhere else where the rest of us don't have to scroll through pages of this garbage.

I wonder how the Tab S is selling? I'm sure it would be better if it hadn't followed so hard upon the heels of the Tab Pro. Has anyone heard any figures? I know Samsung's sales across the board have been down, in part because everyone is so broke out there.

i think samsung hardly gives sales figures of their tablets if at all, but im assuming part of it could be because the availability of the tablet is not that wide yet at least here in the middle east
(P.s. i think the tab s series will turn their fortunes around in the tablet space for the better)
Not really allowed to get into details, since I signed a confidentiality agreement, but Samsung has two new phone coming out very soon. I'm sure they will both be announced at the unpack event on the 13th, but some people like a jump on that. Big battery and both with large screens. The battery life on my Edge has been incredibly poor, I need this larger battery bad!
If they don't have dual antennas, the writing is on the wall for VZW. These new phones with Advanced Calling are virtually worthless. They have two ways they can save the mass exodus...fix their network so people have 4g 100% of the time or move to GSM. I don't think either one are likely.

I'm pretty sure every tech outlet has been reporting this for quite some time. Pictures leaked a few weeks ago...I don't think it's much of a secret.
Alright.

Yeah, good on you for throwing a heads up though, you never know who is out of the loop. I sometimes browse phones I am interested in here first... and though I as well have read about and seen the leaks, some people may not have. This may be good enough reason for someone to hold out on upgrading, so the information is always helpful to someone. Especially if XDA is your main or first source for device info. This is the wrong thread though, not a Q&A/troubleshooting - I would have thrown it in general.

yeah, that's my bad on putting it in this thread. I came to this thread to read something and forgot to go back to the correct thread to post this. And I know most tech sites have shown leaked pictures and yada yada, but sometimes it is nice just to confirm something, rather than just assume what was leaked is correct.
