Hello everybody (Xperia Z1 Owners with Official KitKat 4.4.2)
I recently bought Xperia Z1 and updated it to 4.4.2, but after updating I'm having some issues.
1. When exiting any app, phone should go to home screen, for example I opened the Camera with the dedicated button and used it and pressed back button. As soon as I pressed Back button, the Settings comes up, sometimes dailer, sometimes some other app. Also it just not for Camera it happens mostly for any app I use.
2. When I get call, as I lift the call by dragging the green button the calls automatically starts with loudspeaker sometimes.
3. Battery drains faster sometimes.. like it was 95% and after few minutes it goes 92% (I was not using the phone at that time, it was idle)
4. Unlock animation, most the times while swiping I get smaller bubbles.
Any body having same issues, or any of the above.

1. I have the same problem as well, for me the app just comes up and then quickly closes again though.
2. I don't call too often, but I think I've had this problem once, I also could've accidentally turned it on with my cheek though.
3. Not a clue, could be a personal thing.
4. No idea what you mean but doesn't seem to be a major problem.
I have the same issues....bad....let's waiting the 4.4.3

About the Unlock Animation, it works different when you set the live wallpaper theme and different if you use the static wallpaper theme.
I also get Camera Not Available sometimes!!

1. That happens sometimes with the KK update, the best way to fix that is simply do a factory reset of your phone in the settings
2. Known problem start with Factory Reset, if this not help repair via PC Companion
3. Known problem too, KK update make battery calibration that drain battery, that's back to normal after one or 2 days if not then it's because the SDCard access has be removed from 3rd app with KK that cause battery drain and overheating (i have this one with a 64Gb SDCard :crying: ) to be sure remove your SDCARD and test if there is no battery drain anymore then join us to the SDCard Crying Group and wait that Sony Fix that...
4.That's what you have by default you can change it in settings.

Its not a problem it has been done on purpose.
Sony will not fix it because its implemented by google to fix security issues. All companies running Android are bound by contracts to use this feature. It actually makes you phone more secure.

No i wasn't talking about that, many people haven't the battery drain/overheat problem but with some certains SDCARD/Capacity that cause that, let me explain : if i use my 64GB class 10 SDCard with KK that cause huge battery drain and overheating and ONLY with KK, not a single problem if i reflash the phone to JB 4.3 and i've tested all that is possible to do, format, reset etc... nothing works with KK :crying:

It stops third party apps reading anything you keep on your SDcard, like passwords, bank details and other sensitive information you may keep there. For example, I use online banking on my phone and I have sensitive information like that on my SDcard, now no other app can read it.

Yes, its on KK because KK stops third party apps reading the SDcard, so some KK un-optimised apps keep trying to read it but cant, causing overheat and battery drain

Then i need to wait that apps update right?
Sadly i have no idea what apps cause that it's too hard to find the way because even with no app and the official stock rom i still have the battery drain overheating problem, the only solution for the moment is to remove my lovely cuttie 64Gb class 10 SDCard
If you are rooted and can change the permissions to remove this access.
Look in the general section, you just add one line to a permissions file. There is also an app in the play store that does it for you automatically

But I can keep them on Internal (as the Internal is also a SDcard, External SDcard1, and they do the same job) so to me do not make sense.

Hi, my back facing camera does not work suddenly.
The only camera working is the front facing camera. there is no option to turn the camera around to use the back facing one. I have tried other apps but there are no options to do so.

try clearing cache/dalvik in recovery
download google camera from the app store, that's what i did. i think the factory camera app is buggy
How to get to recovery?
Problem with frontal camera
I have a similar problem with the frontal camera, it shows a black spot, I tried the Google Camera as well and it's the same thing, I unlock the bootloader and I'm not sure if my warranty will be validated.
Any suggestions?
I'm having the same problem, now about 3 days after rooting. Is this a coincidence, or did I mess something up? The only modifications I've made with root are the XPrivacy and Gravitybox Xposed modules. I haven't made any camera tweaks and made sure all the permissions are available in Xprivacy.
edit: Tried clearing the cache; didn't help. Went back and looked at Xprivacy's Usage Data, and found that even though I hadn't disabled any specific permissions for the moto camera, a top-level toggle was switched on. Turning this off fixed the issue.
I've had a similar issue where HDR on crashes Google camera and stock cam. Turning it off fixes it, but I'd like to use HDR.
Anyone else?

I am having the same problem - back camera suddenly stopped working, but the front still does. Tried uninstalling updates to the stock camera app, clearing cache (through recovery as well), installing other camera apps (Google Camera), and even booting into safe mode (3rd party apps disabled). No luck.
I'm not even rooted, nor have I tried. Anyone else have this problem/solve it/have other suggestions? Appreciated. Rather not send in for a full device replacement, if I can avoid it.

It seems to have, in fact, solved itself (I think with one of the Camera app's updates, but it's hard to say for sure). It went back and forth for a while, but it has been stable for the past few weeks.

Same here. I contacted Motorola and they are replacing the phone under warranty. Their support rep ran through the standard cache clear/default app/etc steps and then issued an RMA. It's currently on its way to Texas. I wonder what kind of warranty the replacement phone will have.

So I performed a factory reset and it still didn't fix it. A day later it randomly worked for 2 hours, then went back to no working. Maybe there is a loose wire or connection in it? I'm going to try calling Motorola for a replacement. I'm assuming I just call their standard customer service number?
this really seems to be a problem. i managed to get mine back for a while on my first Turbo by FXz'ing, but eventually it crapped out again. Hopefully Lollipop will have a better camera app whenever it finally comes out.

Hi, my back facing camera does not work suddenly.
The only camera working is the front facing camera. there is no option to turn the camera around to use the back facing one. I have tried other apps but there are no options to do so.
My Nexus 6 is unable to start the camera. The google camera app hangs when it starts and nothing shows up. Earlier the camera used to open but it lagged a bit when HDR was on. Now the camera isn't opening anymore. The other apps like Instagram that use the camera are also not able to open it. The app opens up and hangs, nothing shows up just black screen and sometimes the message "Can't connect to Camera" appears. This issue came after 5.1 and I also had buzz launcher installed once but then I removed it. The phone is less than 7 months old and I bought it online from Flipkart (Indian e-commerce site).
What I've tried:
Forced stop the app (Google Camera)
Cleared cache of the app
Booted in recovery mode and wiped cache partition
Factory reset the device
Nothing worked for me, I tried these steps one by one and then tested the camera but it is still not working. Please help me with this, I paid a lot of money for this phone on my own and it feels really bad and annoying that the camera isn't functional anymore.
Thanks in advance.

You could try a different camera app.
Camera FV-5.
Camera is a nightmare
Here's my issue with the camera:
I've been on lollipop for a while and I haven't had a problem with it, until the camera decided to take a vacation on me. When it comes to taking pictures, the phone crashes and an icon shows my battery is dead, this happens on a full to half life, so I'm not sure what it's trying to pull here. I've cleared and cleaned the phone, my last option is to reset, though I have a feeling this won't work, since I'll still need the latest android update, so I'm back to square one.
The latest issue Is when it comes to uploading pictures, the phone crashes with the same error sequence.
And the finally issue is the sound the device makes sometimes with the camera. Which is curious because I am careful but it looks like I'm having issues from different sources. I'd like to rule out the software side first.
For the time being, I've disabled the camera completely.

From the Google product forums it looks like a failure of the camera app to close properly after use.
https://productforums.google.com/forum/m/#!category-topic/nexus/using-the-camera/aY0X1QiGuhY
Either by use of a 3rd party app that uses the camera or the flashlight. Also it seems that using face unlock can cause the issue.
That being said, and you've reset the device... Have you tried the camera right after the reset (without 3rd party apps)?

Yes, I tried the camera just after the reset and it did not work. I think the OS should be responsible to handle the apps and how are they being closed. Google is not working upto the mark on this. I still need help

Sadly, it seems like you have 2 options, sucking it up and installing another camera or RMA the device.
I wish that wasn't the case for you, I'm disappointed too. I love this phone.

Google Photos VERY Slow On Pixel 4 XL 0 Replies 0 Upvotes
I’ve been having some poor performance out of my Pixel 4XL and Google Photos and I am not sure what is causing it.
There are several things going on…
· When taking a photo, there is a significant delay before you can see it in Google Photos.
· If I take a photo, the “processing” of it can take 10-30 seconds, more so on portrait mode and it will produce a black screen fore as many or longer seconds.
· If I take a screenshot and immediately try to open, it again, 10-30 second delay.
· Editing a photo or screen shot produces the same 10-30 delay.
· Bulk deleting photos can take a long time and leave little placeholders for the photos.
· Sometimes just going into Google Photos, it can leave placeholders for several moments of time.
Troubleshooting So Far
· Cleared cache and data.
o This resulted in taking Google Photos hours to recache my photos in the app.
· Safe Mode
o Loaded safe mode and cleared cache and data and then rebooted.
o Still took hours to recached.
o Performance improved for a while but then poor performance returned.
· Factory Reset
o Factory reset provided short term relief but problem returned.
· Different Pixel 4XL
o A second, new Pixel 4 XL resulted in the problem returning.
What could this be? I would think since this happened after factory reset and new phone that it is a Google Photos problem? Could it be another app doing this?
I do have a Note 10+ that I am going to give it a good run through to see if the problem is there too.
Really want to get this fixed as I prefer the Pixel.
Thanks…
Are you stock or rooted? It could very well be an app causing your issue. My wife had a similar problem with her 4XL. I had to factory reset and install her apps a couple at a time until I found the culprit. I can't remember what app was causing the problem but it was something that she didn't really use.

I am stock and that makes sense. I fired up my Note 10+ with hardly any other app installed and Google Photos is fast. Hmmm...I can't imagine what app it would be but I would assume a photo or video app first.

Do a factory reset with a clean install. See how it runs before adding any 3rd party apps. If everything is good start adding them back a few at a time starting with your must have apps. It will take a little time but the problem app should show up.
UPDATE -
It is interesting in that I can take photos of all kinds for about a minute or so and then this sluggish problem starts in. I wait a little while and it works "as normal" for a while and then kicks in again...if I click on a photo within the camera app after taking it to watch it "process", if it blanks the screen, I know the problem has returned.
I've deleted a bunch of apps and still got the same problem...I guess I'll schedule a factory reset this weekend but I find it odd that this happened on two different Pixel 4 XL's but can't reproduce it on my Note 10+...for sure an issue with Google Camera / Google Photos and perhaps my account if it isn't a rogue app.

I think I may have found the culprit as so far, I've not been able to reproduce the problem since doing this...
I sideloaded Google Playground Stranger Things and The Last Jedi, since I love them but they are no longer available to download. It was one of the last things I tried to uninstall and the only other app I could think of that uses Google Camera. So far, the problem has gone...
It was odd that it would also affect Google Photos and cause constant sluggishness.

Well, I thought that was it...it worked flawlessly for several days and it is back again...you can take several photos for a while but then the preview of the photo will go black for 20 seconds up to 2 minutes. I guess a factory reset is in store but considering this happened on two different Pixel's, just not sure what would be causing it because I so thought I had found the cause.

Okay! Do you have any beta apps installed? And what external apps do you use?
Here's an update...
I decided on a factory reset. I was a little more judicious on reinstalling apps so did a little at a time...it worked fine until yesterday and the dang sluggish problem returned. The only apps I installed the day before this happened again were Office (the new Office Suite App) and GroupMe. I removed them both, rebooted and the problem persists.
I also made sure no Beta apps of any kind were installed.
At this point, since this happened on two separate Pixel's and not my Note 10, there has to be something going on between Google Camera, Google Photos and my Google Account. I almost don't want to contact Google because they may give me the same "do this or that." This is actually a debilitating problem, so I may have to switch to the Note 10+.

It's weird because it works fine initially and then the problem arise. I am still not sure whats causing it. because if it was something between google apps then it should have been from the very start.

I did PIxel Support on the phone and got a case number and all but all they did is they are checking with a higher support like 3 times and then said they would get back to me in email...didn't even try to screen share or get logs.

You need to threaten them and ask for their supervisor and make a case like you are frustrated because of it due to lockdown and they need be quick on their response. It works
After I updated software this morning my camera app opens and then says camera failed and closes. I've cleared cache/data and rebooted with no change. Any ideas? Thanks!

Does the LED flash work if you try to turn it on from the toggles?

Some software issue then... But it might be something else. I'd advice to backup and go to the seller for a potential exchange.
Before thinking about an exchange, backup, factory reset and try again. I really can't see this being a hardware issue that requires an phone swap.
submit an error report on members app > + button > error report when it fails again
You don't know how happy I am to see this thread. I have the exact same issue, with my unlocked phone on att. I did a factory reset tonight, as a last ditch, and nothing. Odd thing is, gcam works fine (except foward facing cam), and the cameras work just fine if using a third party app like messenger. Just the stock camera app says it.
If anyone comes up with a solution, i'd be happy.

You can try a factory reset but if you can return the phone do so. There's been a growing number of problems being reported for this model.
Could this issue be some weird artifact of how Samsung is disabling cameras for whatever other device (the fold?) when the bootloader is unlocked?
Maybe somehow they screwed that up for the S21 Ultra, to where it's accidentally disabling the camera if you have a certain combination of carrier and settings etc.?
That's kind of what I thought. I kept checking Knox in case it tripped somehow, and it's fine. Just super frustrating to have a flagship with such a great camera, not let you use it

Sure could be. Samsung has been dumping huge amounts of time and money into the Fold series. They are distracted.
With semiconductor shortages a more nefarious scenario could be unfolding here. When smaller chipset/component shortages happen during a production run Samsung will substitute them with an equivalent available one. The key word is equivalent. Tolerances may differ or worse the firmware for the replacement chipset isn't coded properly for that alternative chipset although it is for the primary chipset.
So now there's a subvariant of that model that uses/needs different firmware. Until Samsung recognizes this and rolls out a patch, you're boned.
Worse Samsung needs to physically inspect some of the effected phones to ID which substituted components are causing the issue from that production run. At that point Samsung will patch the firmware or replace the mobo if it can't be patched.
If it helps, the oneui beta program installed this morning, and my Camera is now working again!
