side install Gplay on fire HD 2nd gen. - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI,
I am trying to side install a package on a non rooted Fire HD 2nd gen ( 16GB)
I have copied an mp3 across to /sdcard/ using adb and it went fine and I find it on the tablet under Mucic and it plays.
Next I wanted to test side installing a package , so I found one needed for Play Store , got the version for android 4.0.3 matching my 7.5.1 Kindle.
I similarly copied it across using adb then fired up a shell install it.
pm install -s "/sdcard/com.google.android.gsf_4.0.4-338691-15_minAPI15(nodpi).apk"
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE]
the 16Gb device is nearly empty so this is not a pace issue, I'm suspecting that it is a permissions problem.
I found something for later Fire HD v5 using pm grant ...... but grant is not recognised by this version pm it seems.
Is this even possible or do I need to root it first?
Thanks .

[Q] adb install .apk works on and off

I'm looking for insight on why my "adb install" command sometimes works and sometimes does not. Again to be clear, I was able to use the command several times successfully, but not consistently.
This week I purchased the Nook Touch, and using the wiki I was able to root it successfully. With much patients and effort I was able to get all the apps loaded up, accept Button Savior Root ver. 1.1.1
As I have been doing this I have had problems with "adb install". Sometimes it will load the .apk file and sometimes it will not. I have tried renaming the .apk files, moving them to other directories.... and sometimes, these tricks will work.
Here is a sample error message I am getting. Any insights would be appreciated, my nook experience will be easier with Button Savior loaded.

So right after I posted the above question, I thought I would try one more time to install the app.... and it worked. You can see from the log that I did nothing different. I'm still interested in anyone's ideas on why this sometimes works, and sometimes not.

The adb driver will sometimes just kick off for some reason. This happens on my nook and transformer. I will be doing something then it will stop responding. Then I just simply plug back the cable after I pull it out and it works fine. Frustrating as crap along with drivers not installed message even when I just used the damn thing connected to my computer a few seconds earlier. If I knew why it did that....I would be happy. What is worse is when you plug the tablet in and then it says device not found...

Bootloop with cyanogenmod with my kindle fire hd

Well my problem its different that the ones I've looked over the forum.
I get the cyanogenmod installed , and then I wait for almost 45 mins, with the cyanogenmod logo.
Then it suddenly comes with the new android unlock screen for like 1 second and then it begins again with the cyanogenmod.
But to resolve it, I just turn off the kindle go to teamwin boot and then just restore.
Then it becomes like factory settings..
But I can't get the cyanogenmod to work no matter what.
What I'm missing...
Did u check the cm 10.1 zip files md5 checksum before flashing it? You should always do this, you can do it in es file explorer by going to a files properties and calculating the md5. Compare it to the md5 from the post where u got it from, if its different then re-download it..

Well I downloaded everything from this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245335
and followed the instructions...
I don't really know what's the "md5 checksum"
I only rooted and did the 2nd-bootloader + TWRP 2.6.0.0 for the Kindle Fire HD 7
from this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271909
But I don't recall seeing anything related with "md5 checksum"

Try downloading again, make sure file size is the same as the website says and md5 is the numbers in the description, just above the file or below, also try (make backup first) wipe cache, dalvik cache, data, system, flash rom , flash gapps, wipe internal, wipe dalvik, then reboot

Well looks like I erased everything and it says I don't have a OS installed, but now the cyanogenmod zip its not in the sd card of the kindle.
So I have nothing to flash with, and it won't go to the locked screen.
But I'm stuck with the Team Win recovery project menu .
So its there anything I could do to copy the zip from my pc to the kindle so I can flash it, or even restore it so I can connect my kindle to my pc?
Thanks!
Your going to have to plug it into your PC and use adb sideload to put the zip file on it.

Guys so sorry to bother u guys again , idk why I have such a big problem following instructions today...
I have flash my android phones before, I tho this was gonna be just like it...
But I was following this thread and nothing so far..

if u guys got anything I could use.
Thanks!
Eh well I was hoping for more specifics, but I will tell you what I can, because I haven't ever had to use adb sideload. First go into twrp and hit advanced, them hit adb sideload and swipe to start. If your device manager doesn't have the drivers installed for your kindle when its in twrp for adb, you will need to install them, if you have installed adb drivers before and are running the latest twrp version for kindle(2.6.0.0 I believe), then it should be pretty much plug and play, but if you are running an older version of twrp you will need to force install the adb driver for that device because it didn't have the same vendor ID as the kindle like the new twrp has. Usually I think u just have hit update driver and tell it to let u browse for the driver manually, then uncheck only show compatible device drivers( it says something relatively similar to this) and look for the adb driver, can't remember if its the adb composite device or a different one. If all goes well and u haven't got driver issues, which I hope you don't because I think my tut was a bit lacking for installing drivers, then u should goto a command prompt and CD into the directory u have adb in, it would be in the android SDK, or a utility like kffa, anything that comes with adb will do. Make sure to put the zip u are side loading in the same directory as adb.exe. after that just type adb.exe sideload zipfilename.zip. that should put it on your kindle.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM10.1 Tablet UI using xda-developers app
Well I tried that a few times already the adb sideload.
and i just loads, and does nothing, I even waited for an hour, and wouldn't finish :S
So I just think the adb sideload its not gonna do it :S
Just in case u didn't understand whats my problems.
It won't boot up because it has no OS.
So I can't put anything in the sd or backup because I accidently erased everything... even the zip from my sd(cyanogenmod )
I will have to test out adb sideload on my PC to get a better understanding of whats going on, keep in kind I use Linux and not windows, so I don't have driver issues, though I guess you are past any issues that would occur with drivers. Just to validate while I check, but u did put the file u want to side load in the same folder as the adb.exe and you are sure u ran the command correctly? Just thought I'd mention windows doesn't show file extension by default, so make sure u add the .zip to the filename if you didn't already when u type the command.

Thanks for the fast response
So I'm guessing I'd have to put the" cm 10.1 in the same folder as the adb tools(where are 2 .exe fastboot and adb) just to make sure we are talking about the same thing lol.
But I think I did the command wrong.
because I got to the part of the cmd and running the adb, but then I get nothing when I try to push the file to the sd.
Just to make sure can u put the command again
this its the name of the .zip : cm-10.1-20130725-NIGHTLY-otter2
and this its where its located : C:\Users\seekario\Desktop\ADB-Tools
Thanks so much for your time also!

OK so type this: adb.exe sideload cm-10.1-20130725-NIGHTLY-otter2.zip
That command should work, just to make sure I'll mention it again, before u run the command, in twrp goto advanced, adb sideload, and swipe the thing to the left, afterwards run this command.

I doubt anything can be done til you have fastboot cable, I heard people try adding certain lines in cmd but most say it doesn't work, so a sure fire way would be to either make or buy fastboot cable.

[Q] Kindle Fire HD 7" Stuck on TWRP (2.4.4.0) - Won't Mount - BTC for quick help!
Yes I am a n00b here.
I have done many jailbreakings with no problem.
I have been using my Kindle Fire HD 7" since Feb. and reading the XDA forums and finally decided to root.
I used the newest bin4ry with no problems - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2351201
I then loaded TWRP and Kindle Fire Flash using this most recent method - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2347170
Again with no problems.
I then was going to load CyanogenMod 10.1 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245335
But my Kindle Fire is stuck on the TWRP screen and my PC is not showing my Kindle to drop the .zip files.
When using ADB command prompt I typed "ADB devices" and it says "List of Devices Attached - 123456789ABCDEF recovery"
So that's where I am at.
I have searched the forum many times with no luck.
Please help me load CyanogenMod or get it back to stock.
I don't care about losing apps or anything because they were all free ones.
I got a bit of BTC for anyone that can help with a quick solution.

Hey Mr. Derrick!
Hopefully we can get you setup using the same solution that worked for me.
ABD can be kinda confusing, especially if you are new to rooting.
(I can't post links yet so change my xx to tt)
If you want to try re-downloading it you can get it here: hxxp://developer.android.com/sdk
Are you trying to install the Cyanogen Mod 10.1 on there as well?
You will need that also in order to get it up and running.
You can download that here: hxxp://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/tate/cm10.1/cm-10.1-20130812-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip
It helps to put all this stuff in the same folder, I just made a folder called "Kindle Stuff"
Now, go into your Kindle Stuff folder and go to adt-bundle-windows > sdk > platform-tools
Copy and paste your "cm-10.1-20130812-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip" folder in there.
Then in a blank space in the folder hold down "Shift" and "right click"
On the list choose
"Open command window from here"
In the command window copy and paste this: adb push cm-10.1-20130812-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip/sdcard/cm-10.1-20130812-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip
That (should) load Cyanogenmod onto your Kindle.
Once it finishes transferring, you can click "Install" on the TWRP homescreen.
It (should) automatically load it right away, if not just scroll to the "cm-10.1-20130812-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip" file and open it up.
I really hope that works for you, because that's what did it for me!
I'm having the same issue with being stuck on the twrp screen, but I can't get an adp connection. Im also attempting to load cm 10.1 onto my kindle fire hd 7. In case it matters my pc also says there's no drivers for the kindle (I installed the proper drivers and adp and sdk software prior to rooting and flashing twrp and they worked fine, the problem only started after installing twrp)
Try the drivers in my signature. Its probably my just an old twrp build before has code updated the vid and pid in it.

how would i install those drivers so that the kindle would use them...when i originally installed the drivers for the adp connection, it was done automatically

Good guide for changing OS?

I'm looking for a good guide to changing the OS of my kindle fire 7" 2nd gen to some sort of regular android, It's been ages since I flashed any roms (ages may sound exaggerated, probably like 4 or 5 years?) and that was only a couple times to find one I liked for an older htc desire so I'm not really sure where to begin. I've rooted the kindle in an attempt to install the google play store but I can;t get it to work, so I reset it to factory defaults.
Bottom Line - Anyone have any suggestions of where i should start with guides to change a Kindle Fire 7" 2nd gen OS to android?
