Hey guys!
Many of you guys know about Mi A2's Memory problem. It's about Write and Read speed of Rom.
I tried everything. Sometimes its good but most often its bad like hell. Writing speed is about 30 MB/s.
I tried to reflash stock ROM and install clean so I got a better result. About 235 MB/s... After few days of using again... 30 MB/s
Idk what's wrong exactly. Xiaomi pulled back both updates of August and September. so I think there are some major issues.
And I am sure that there is two model of eMMc memory for A2. And I hope that this problem just goes for software.
This bug or issue cause many lags and freezes. Many people have the problem with flashing Roms with fastboot in Mi A2 too. I think this can be ROMs issue too. I tried to flash via fastboot with adb or with Xiaomi flash tool but both were unsuccessful due to an unknown issue. I tried them on 3 computer with over 16 GB of ram so it's not my computers problem.
We just need Xiaomi talk clearly about this problem. It's not a small one
I just want to know if our phones have the hardware problem or no
Update: At the 22 of October, we created an issue tracker for google devs, And they are investigating the problem. If u have the problem too, pls go to the button link and star the issue:
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/118036531
Update: ( 24.10)
Google admin:
We have passed this to the development team and will update this issue with more information as it becomes available.
that's right, it's a common problem on this cell phone, we hope that with the October update it will be resolved as more and more complaints
ye
Let's see some screenshot
Many Beta testers in India MIUI forum believe that its just my problem and they haven't any problem with ROM speed
I can confirm this. What's promising that speeds are good on freshly installed system. So it can mean that this is something with the software, not hardware.

Exactly. When i install fresh rom, there is no problem. both speeds are about 200 MB/s. But after few days... Its like hell and it cause some lag and bad response on touch
Maybe someone who has installed MIUI version on Mi A2 can do the tests, because MIUI doesn't have two partition system, so we can see if there is difference there.
And how are the Mi 6x 64/4 test speeds ?
Because it is the same hw on this phones, we can know is it software or hw issue.

I think the ram management on the a2 is horrendous. I usually have less than a gb free. Where as on my old phone (p9 lite 3gb ram) I had 1.5gb free no matter what.

I wonder why people think more free ram is better. Ram is there to be used and empty ram is wasted ram. Do you have any issues with apps closing unexpectedly? If not ram management is good actually.

So I was downloading the new update while browsing XDA. The phone kept freezing up so I checked cpuz.. had about 150mb free of ram. I don't think that downloading an update takes that much ram.

90MB/s writing is not good really. It must be about 200 at least. But it's not about speed. it's about instability. Try to run that benchmark again. Then try to use ur phone...
Just a question. Since this happens after some use, it could just be that memory isn't being trimmed (properly).
Could you trim the memory and do a benchmark then?
You can trim it via terminal or using the Trimmer app from the play store. Root needed for this.

Nope no regrets. Doesn't matter 130+mb, phone still works like a charm.
Nope, the RAM is fine IMO.
Sure as hell don't wish I bought an Atrix, PenTile displays are not for winners.

Around 160/180 free.
I not quite sure about my thinking, because every time i tried to play flash using the browser, after loading something i get FC, and is it due to insufficient of ram? I tried the same Flash on SGS II, i works perfectly.

Free RAM is useless. Better app and memory management, well, that's another thing.
Android generally has a problem with auto-starting apps, IMHO. I go mad when I see an app running, while knowing that I didn't start it, don't need it today or any day soon. But it's there, just consuming phone's resources and annoying me. Damn.
Then I kill few of them, even though I read somewhere it's contra productive. That may be true in some ways, only it is not confirmed by subjective feeling which tells me the opposite. Phone gets faster

But overall, the memory is good and enough for me

You can almost guarantee that a 1GB model will be better. The Optimus 2X does struggle with it's 512 mb, because 128mb is attributed to the GPU. Lukily, some kernels, like IronKrnl free some of that memory up and give it back to the CPU, but it's still losing 80mb.
Also, it's worth noting that, if you want to run ICS, if you look at the phones out that have 1gb of ram, you'll see they're all actually better phones- especially what Samsung make.
So, while the O2X is a cheap dual-core device. The best experience will come with something with 1gb of RAM, as it's much more likely to also get ICS. (Due in part because most 1gb phones have already had an announcement, and for it to be soon)
ICS is very hungry in memory. On my Asus Tablet running official, my 1GB RAM is fully used, as usual in Linux but at a higher level than in GB.
To run ICS correctly on O2X, you must use IronKrnl, the 48mb ramhack version is correct (means it steals 48MB to GPU, leaving only 80MB to it), and modifying memory killer values to a sort of aggressive profile.
Yea right, so this is why I had less free memory on GB. And now I have CM kernel on ICS. I doubt you actually tried CM9 alpha on O2X if you are talking crap like this about performance.

The browser in ICS works better even though we have 512MB. It always returned to where I had left. 512 and less is enough for full desktop environments on PC even.

See my sig and stop arguing. I run CM9 since first day Ricardo published SK0, and now running SK2 with latest Ironkrnl. Setiron himself admitted on Google+that ICS is a memory eater.
Dont know how much free memory we're talking about here but I'm on SK2 with original CM9 kernel. Using Adv.Task Killer from time to time and I always have around 200-240 Mb free memory. Just sharing my experience
Running CM9 aswell and its sooooo smooth, faster than any rom ive tried
OK, so what happens when you want to run Tegra games? (like Dungeon Defenders for example). A shame you cannot dynamically set the ram hack :-(

That's the real question... Free memory when phone is idle means nothing. Plus you have to consider the lowmemkiller values you have set, I personnally use aggressive values: 16 24 32 90 100 110 to free the most possible memory.
Many users report freezes with games that run perfectly on GB. The problem or ramhack is choosing the right value for gaming, it seems 48mb version is the best compromise. A 'on the fly' feature was not planned for the moment by Setiron in one of his G+ posts.

It does. In low memory situations ICS seems to keep running better and smoother compared to GB. If you get under 40mb free on GB everythings gets very slow, with ICS it seems to handle it a bit more elegantly from a user experience.
Please don't think I'm pesimistic here, I'm just going off the comments: Given that OEM releases tend to be bloated and memory wasteful, it's not looking great for an LG ICS release that is 'fully' working. If they pull it off and allow tegra games to run, then I'll be impressed
the official release from LG should be more efficient, and once you remove bloatwares, it should be quite a charm
Hi,
The Google Nexus S also has only 512Mb, and a certain amount of those allocated to GPU (though I don't remember how many), and ICS works like a charm on it... So I think it shouldn't be a problem on our O2X! :-D

So u conclude this only because less ram is free ? Or the device becomes unusable?
Pretty sure everyone knows, and if you look at a changelog there was no mention of it being fixed: http://aosp.changelog.to/aosp-LRX22C-LRX22G.html
There are commits that fix a memory leak (https://github.com/Lethargy/android_frameworks_base/commit/da2133d046e59b590e51448eda31d710da217d40 and https://github.com/Lethargy/android_frameworks_base/commit/e30ccdbeac2c53b04a389c7ffd8e9d500c93ef30), however I do not experience such memory leak myself so I cannot say if it fixed the issue for others.

I'm not sure if those commits fix the memory leak that is widely experienced by some users. I only know it fixes "a" memory leak. Again, I did not experience a memory leak myself before merging those commits to my ROM source, so I can't comment on whether it helps or not.
Not sure if turning off animation will make a difference or not, but I don't think it will.

3 days ago i ditched the Google Now launcher and returned to Nova, and i think the problem is not that severe anymore, but i have to keep an eye on it for a bit longer to be able to say for sure.

How is this a memory leak? When more memory is needed, it will open up. Contrary to a long time "windows user" mentality, using memory is good. Especially on android. Why do people think using ram is bad? Using ram helps speed things up.
On a semi side note, after perusing computer forums for many years, I've seen many people get as much RAM as possible then try to get their systems to use as little as possible. It makes no sense. RAM is your friend. Use it.
I haven't had this 'memory leak' ever..even from 5.0.0
Yes using ram speeds things up but only when its being used for things like caching preloading and keeping apps in memory. Even then too little free ram can result in lots of paging when using multiple apps so the system tries to achieve a balance keeping some things in memory while having enough free to not cause paging. In this case people are reporting the opposite that after a few days the phone becomes slow and laggy and memory usage is very high even when they have no apps open so there is no swapping it paging going on. If it was just the is caching things it would just delete them to make room for the current app but that is not the case, the only explanation there fore is that something is leaking memory and consuming it till there is very little left for anything else. Also the os might not be managing memory properly but that seems unlikely as android has always been pretty good at memory management.

I'm thinking the highly modified ROM/kernel combination might have more of an effect on OPs free RAM than any "memory leak". Stocks working just fine. Still 1.3Gb free after games, forums, screen on/off, been on for three days, etc.

It has nothing to do with amount of free RAM. As shown in my pictures you can see 600 mb free ram, but phone starts shutting down apps. This happens on stock ROM without installing extra apps too by the way. Navigation and google music streaming quickly makes this happen it seems for me.
Duh, most of the changes for 5.0.2 were for Tegra N7.

It's not the usage of RAM the issue, I think it's more about RAM management, if bigger apps need more RAM let them take it up. But the issues arises when the OS does not release the memory take up by the previous app back into the pool, so then each time we take the same program it takes more and more of the space until other apps cannot access it easily. Presto launcher redraws or apps fc's(or not even running or abruptly stopping the background music playback service) in phones, and whole system freeze or "hang" of the OS in desktop environments.

I have my P9 now for a month or so and i really think it is a RAM eater, it sucks up my RAM.
It has 800mb's free ram when all i repeat all applications are closed that is not how it supposed to be i think so.

Hmm.. I have the same model too and I seem to drift at around 1.2~1.6 free most of the time unless I'm heavily multi-tasking, do you have any heavy apps that maybe auto-start or anything like that? You could also try factory resetting if it's going that bad.

If there is lag and you feel it's RAM related, there is a "clean up" function in phone manager. Or just kill some apps from multitask view But most of the time there really are almost no benefits to having free ram on android. RAM performance is not scaling with the amount, like CPUs for example. It's more like, you have enough then you can run the apps, you don't have enough then you can't run it. But on android that's basically a non-issue because it will automatically clear the ram if you don't have enough for a certain task.
I get around 1.5-1.7 when freeing memory. I don't have a lot of apps installed though. It doesn't go down even after a few days withoit restarts unlike my older phones.
Sent from my EVA-L19 using Tapatalk
