I am new to posting here, and unfortunately can not yet post in the Dev section, so I have to ask this question here:
I have a US TMo Tab, and after disappointing experience with the stock ROM, began flashing custom ROMs from OC 1.4 to Overcome 1.6, and have had nothing but great experience with all of them (and donated more than once to the coffee funds of the devs). They were faster and smoother by far than the stock TMo.
When 2.0.0 came out, I started with the beta installation, and have followed the instructions meticulously as a good noob should do (I have enough experience in IT to know what I don't know and to RTFM).
These are not in the FAQs or answered in the Dev Boards, so here are my questions/issues to report:
I have had a radical drop in battery life - 9 hrs. average with 1.6, 4-5 hrs. now, and no change or addition of apps to speak of. I am holding out as others are now reporting this to see whether it can be fixed before backing out to the earlier version, because of the significant improvement in the Browser and some of the other GB enhancements (kick me, I like Daily Briefing now!).
The biggest problem I having is that since the GB upgrade, the Roto Modem Switcher (enriched his coffee fund as well as Alterbridge and Darkpal's) now goes through the switch, but the script errors out and the screen runs into a series of red lines, I think, when CWM/reboot is invoked, so each time I run this I have to manually reboot the unit. I have seen several posts on this but no concrete answers and I am wondering if anyone can shed any light on what I might be able to try to restore this please.
Many thanks in advance for any help.
Hello,
Sorry I can't be of help, but just want to let you know something.
Don't post your questions in dev section, the response can be pretty offensive.
The dev section is for developers only, so you can reply to overcome 2.0 thread if you have a question or an overcome problem reporting thread if they have one. Posting a question there ... is just inviting flame, happened a lot to xda newbies(myself included).
As far is know about overcome, the current 2.0 gold still has some bugs and the most stable one is still the old 1.6.4. I am still waiting for the stable version of 2.0.
@jpnaggy -
Thanks for the sage advice. I see a lot of that there, and some of it is sound flaming - folks don't follow all the instrux and ask questions that have been answered, sometimes just can't read the thread.
It seems Alterbridge and his devs are a little more tolerant than most, and they really do try to help people out, moreover, they encourage feedback so long as it is constructive because it drives improvements to future releases.
That said, I will keep my fingers crossed that someone can assist here, and really do thank you for the warning. I won't post anything unless it is concise and precise, and unless I have scoured the prior posts in vain for an answer.
Cheers!
are you sure u want to ask a question here in GENERAL section and not in Q|A section ?
Manual rebooting is the new procedure.
Try googling "battery drain galaxy tab" and see where that takes you.
Turn off auto syncing of everything for a day and see what that does. Check your display settings - brightness, color density .
Thanks all!
My bad for posting in the wrong area - thanks @k0sh for the well-deserved dunning. Guess they don't call us noobs for nothing!
@ranger - have googled battery drain for two days straight, and am reading all I can on this.
The problem most definitely started after the last flash - I figured it was a good idea to reset the battery stats since I had done so good on Alter's 1.6 and realize now I should probably have left it alone.
I suspect that had I done so, it would have remained good or gotten better, and it is possible that this explains to some degree why there is such a disparity in battery life others are reporting.
I will patiently await the next update, and promise to post in the right place from now on. Thanks again all for your assitance!

Okay!
Thanks gentlemen, to you both. After an arduous weekend of flashing and re-flashing I think I may be getting better at this (of course, I am not taking off the training wheels - I follow the Overcome Guide line by line each time because it is way too easy to make a mistake).
First - I flashed back to 1.6 (because I can't stomach putting stock T-Mo back on my Tab no matter what!) - and that went fine. Then I upped to GB using the instrux in Gold's upgrade, then I reflashed current Gold (oh, where is Hermes already? I know, I read the State of the Union, and all the comments on your Dev thread, and I am patiently waiting for more OC Perfection!). But this time, I did one more thing - I took a look at the bloat that was all over my Internal and External SD cards, carefully, just to make sure I wasn't dragging something bad back in. The directory structure on my external SD was SWISS CHEESE - directories nested under one another (e.g. \titanium bu\titanium bu, data\data, etc.).
Gotta think my quick fingers got the better of my slow brain, but since this was such a mess, and I know there is nothing on the internal SD after a full wipe (what, three times with all the re-flashed ROMs) and the Dalvik wipe to boot, I decided to use a Market Backup, just to keep a list somewhere of all my installed Apps (currentl number 247). And this time, I installed them all one by one, rather than restore them from TB.
And this time, no lag, and VERY little noticeable battery drain (@rangercaptain - thank you again!).
@k0sh - You are brilliant! Your suggestion got me thinking this had to be a self-inflicted problem and you were spot on!
So now that you spent all this time helping out a Noob, I am anxiously waiting for the next iteration of Overcome, and this baby is flying right now! Woo hoo! Thanks to you both!
Guys, there's something strange happening with my Note 4.
I live in Brazil and here we only received the Lollipop update (BOC3) later last week. For the propose of further questions: I never rooted or modified my phone, It's a SM-N910C.
The thing is, after the update I found some issues with my phone. Same old problems people keep complaining about. My Antutu score droped from 50k to 38k, my Geekbench score was lower too, and performance in general was worse, really worse, perceptibly. I was about to flash the BOC5 ROM from another country 'cause some users claim that this version solves some problems, but them I saw some users with the BOC5 and the same old performance problems. I gave up the flash and while surfing through the settings I found one feature I've never used before, the "Active Knox Protection". It's located between Security options.
After activating that option the system asked me to do a reboot, I did and voila! The performance of my Note 4 was back to what it should always be. My antutu score is again 50k, and the system is faster in general. I thought it might be just a coincidence, but turns out that turning off that option made my phone go back to the "bug" state.
So that's my tip for those who doesn't have root and are facing this GPU bug in lollipop. Would be awesome if you guys could reproduce the procedure and post your results.

Actually I tried. Before I do the official OTA update here in Brazil I tried the BOC3 that was released for some other country and I had all the bugs with it. I did a full wipe before and after the flash with no help them I downgraded to Kitkat and waited for the OTA update, which did not much for me as well.
Strange enough the only thing that solved my problem was activating the knox active protection.

I activated knox protection along with device encryption, performance is definitely better than before my battery giving much better sot than before encryption & knox protection.
well thanks mate i ll see abou that knox.... but the thing as i remeber is that whn i read it said it might degrade performance

Yes I read that & i was little hesitant to activate but i notice i can very well reverse back if it's really affect performance.
I can confirm . When I activated 'knox active protection' my antutu score went from 43k to 53k .I didn't test the battery life yet
I can confirm too, my antutu score went up to 49k after activating it.
Many days before I posted about this but seems no one take a note.

Activated it. So far so good. An improvement in Antutu from 43k to 46k. Battery no worse than without it. A keeper.... for now
5.0.1. Knox services disabled. Root. No other modifications
I want a perfect rom on my phone a stock lollipop rom and I can't do that without root. I mean have you seen this TouchWiz Oh My Lawd it's horrible, it eats so much ram battery life terrible and sometimes my phone overheats. If anyone could point me to a thread where they found the root or is working on the root and have it. I'll make a donation to the Mastermind who discovered it.

Simple poll.
I am running Fedor917's Resurrection Remix v5.8.0 at the moment based off Android 7.1, but tempted to flash his build of CM14 instead because RR has a lot of useless 'complications' which i would rather be without. How does Fedor CM14 compared against that from davidevinavil, is there any noticeable different in stability, performance and battery life?
i think you guys are confusing cm 13 and 14 bases.

Any bugs?
I tried CM13/Bliss/RR and Mokee on Z2. In the end settled on RR 22/11 build, nice tweaks on top of CM13, I think it uses it's own kernel. Incredibly stable, haven't crashed once since I installed it.
There are a few variants of CM made by different groups as well so keep that in mind.

Hello all.
Sry for this noob question, however I am having a lot of difficulties with this and really would appreciate your help.
I bought this phone for my wife for Christmas, however I was told that some of them have problems with the Google Play store as items keep stuck on downloading.
I am looking everywhere for a solution for this and apparently the only one is to change the ROM.
Well I don't even know how to check which ROM I have, so I can't even answer this simple pool...
Can you help me with this? a step at a time, as I am really noob at this and don't know much about this "flashing" things.
I would love to have google play working, as that would be enough for me to give it to my wife, but if I need to change ROM I know it will void to warranty, so I would prefer not. Anyway, if it has to be...

You will need some help from someone. I currently don't have this phone, but I am very tempted to buy one. Someone needs to help you flash another software. When I get mine and see how it is done I can help. I can help now too, but I never had this phone and it is better to do it first on mine and then help someone

I had to flash the Indian ROM. I required a few set of days, to grasp the knowledge of what bootloader, eld, adb, twrp recovery and all those stuff... But I eventually got it working. It now has an Indian ROM and MoreLocale with the language I need.
I used the tutorial that I found on Zukfans eu
Hello everyone
Im a newbie with all android stuff but i try my best to geather as much information as i can.
Recently i rooted my note 8 and i deleted all the extra apps and i was having a great performance with more than 3,3 gb of ram most the times and i felt how light the phone was, i changed my fav apps to system to find them there always (for ultra saving mode), but now im facing a problem that i don't know how to change the rom status to official so i appreciate if someone can help me with an easy guide and the second question is it possible to extract the rom from the phone after the modifications to be clean installed through TWRP.
Your device will not go back to official with a mod rom, more over, if you tripped knox, 0x1, there is way to revert it to 0x0, samsung pay is gone forever and knox will no longer work, if your device is snapdragon, then batt will not go beyond 80%, as for your 2nd question, better look for a clean debloated rom, or a script to that effect

Thank you for the answer , i did actually try the debloating script , but now the heart rate sensor have stopped working everywhere , i really regret rooting tbh
I Rooted my previous devices, except for the note 7, I did not want to mess anything, and it is working ok to this very day, but regarding your regret, These days the need for rooting has decreased a lot, as many features have been incorporated in stock firmwares, I only miss VIPER audio

What problems were you having? You can always return to stock firmware of course, if needed. It won't un-trip your Knox counter, etc. but you could af least start 'fresh' if you're having many issues.

There can be issues with Netflix and S-Health on root, but they're fixable. If the issues only happened after debloating though, then maybe you debloated too much. It might take some trial and error to figure out what you need to keep and what can be removed.

Dual speaker mod works on Note8, but it's benefits is negligible. Whether V4A makes any difference or improvements to it, I don't know. I doubt it will.
