Hi everyone, I couldn't find anything related to my problem at all, so I hope I don't have a hardware defect..
I have my device since end of June and have taken a lot of awesome pictures with it. I returned from vacation 2 weeks ago and since then I think there have been 2 system updates on the phone.
I can't recall on which but I started noticing last week how awful my pictures have become.. Also the focus starts moving by itself sometimes and the flash is being used when it shouldn't be used.
I honestly don't want to do a system reset, because I don't want to take the time and copy all my pictures back and forth.
I already tried wiping the camera cache and delete the camera app data with no positive results.
I attached a few examples of how bad and noisy the pictures have become..
If someone has any ideas please let me know..
Only based upon this single blurry photo you attatched i cannot really provide any useful comments and suggestions. You need to put a little bit more effort into proving AF issues in daylight situations or good indoors lighting. Any camera, even DSLR's would miss focus in such dark situations such as your example photo shows.

Problem is I have taken the very same photo on a lot of Days at the dark hours and they were never like this.
I have attached another picture which I have shot at dawn (zoomed in a little bit and Screenshotted because uploading here sizes the pictures down too much)
Edit: and another one few days ago in daylight, its very blurry and the colors are noisy..
Which firmware version you are on??

the same thing happened to me. I solved it by installing the camera application. the link.

I'm on latest firmware (156 c432 + mini patch). @trasto2es thank you for the information but I didn't really want to open bootloader and flash a custom recovery. Is there no other way?
Same config and same issue on my side.
I've contacted the Huawei support about this topic. No solution at the moment, but the problem is already known.
Hi @littlemincer thanks for your answer. Could you please keep us up to date about huaweis answer?
Did you try a factory reset?
edit: i did a factory resest with full firmware reflash now. it didnĀ“t solve the problem
I also noticed a drop in quality after the last update CLT-L29 (432) 8.1.0.156. In my specific case the problem is in the Huawei image gallery software that appears to be applying a filter on the photos. I downloaded the simple gallery application and my problem has been resolved. Try it out!
someone with the very last update about camera quality......?

I'm sorry in advance if this subject already exists. I've searched and didn't find anything similar.
Problem is that when I take pics with HDR mode (especially at night (first picture - it look like there is a smoke) or sunny day) there are some gray spots.
1. HDR
2. look at the sky on the left side of pic - looks like some kind of cloud is there
3. near the building on the sky it looks like there is a cloud.
So since my phone is still under warranty I took it for repair 10 days ago, and still nothing from them.
I'm asking here, because, sometimes in Serbia whn you give them to fix your phone, they don't do anything. I mean literally. Just give you back your phone and than you have to take it again, and again..
Have anyone have/had this kind of problem?
Phone is running android 4.2 - latest update for Europe/Serbia and it's stock rom.
Thank in advance
I recently bought a a fairly used Z1 from a local dealer.
After a few days of use, I started noticing that the rear camera randomly gets blurry for distant shorts. Nevertheless, if you take close up shots i'ts fine. The front Camera is also fine.
At first I wondered if the issue was with the Background defocus app, I installed. I have removed it cleared the device and camera cache but the camera is still as it is.
Also some days the camera is fine with no issues as I've taken great photos with it.
I need help to sort out the issue if it's a hardware or software issue and if I can fix it or I should return it since I have a 3 months of guarantee.
See photos:
it appears I can't post an image link to dropbox.
Thank you for your help in advance.
Check if my tutorial helps you
did you try to clean install latest stock rom?
clean install means to wipe everything and flash the stock rom
Try Google Camera. If it keeps getting blurry, it can be a physical problem.
I am not much interested in camera when i bought Mi A2, it works fine. but recently when i was taking picture, it was half side blur and i was not able to make focus on upper side of camera. i tried all modes but no use. I have Note 6 Pro and it's camera functions and focus properly.
in mi A2 I observed when in MANUAL mode i select Lens as LOW LIGHT, it works (but in manual mode only).
do any one has some solution or give reason to behave camera like this.
Same here
It was a February patch bug and it seems to persist in March patch... Xiaomi.

This is a hardware problem, I also had this, give the phone a guarantee.
P.S. sorry for english(
How so we both have exactly the same problem and mine started with pie?
Looks like this is a hardware issue, I'm having the same problem after 4 months of use.
Same here, I also took it to guarantee and they told me it was a software problem, but when they gave it back to me nothing had changed. Camera still not working

I had ordered it from this website but I had paid the cheapest shipping, I'm from Mexico so it will take a while to arrive to my country.. maybe next month..
I had the same problem and replaced the camera module with a new one, and the problem was fixed... temporarily because 3 months after it started happening again with the new camera, so either I am super unlucky, or it must be some other defect in the phone that tends to breaks the primaey cameras...
At this point I don't think I am going to replace it again. Do you know of any way of recording videos with the low light camera?
I have the same issue. In fact this issue persists in the video mode as well. Its okay for videos of objects nearby but move even a few metres away and it becomes very difficult to focus. I was at this concert and wanted to record the performance but only got a very blurry video with muffled sound. For photos this issue is especially an inconvenience when taking photographs of documents etc where you could very well do without the unnecessary bokeh effect. In MANUAL mode this does reduce a bit, but not to any extent that helps.
I was just told by a friend that installing the Google camera mod might help, but I'm yet to try it out.
I have same problem with upper side blur. Seems that switching to "manual" mode and change "lens" from "regular" to "low light", as said by the original user. It works fine with me. Thanks for the tips ! ........ so it is not the hardware problem, it is a software problem. Changing camera may not work ! Don't know if they are going to release new firmware to solve it or not ?? Any idea how to upgrade the firmware ?

If it is a hardware problem I do not see why it would prevent using the secondary camera, it can be a problem with the lenses (Have you thrown or hit your phone?) and not with the module. There are those who have returned to Oreo and the problem persists.
Hi all,
I recently purchased S20 FE 5g (Snapdragon, india) few days back for my wife. The screen of her previous phone Redmi k20 broke after a fall and screen was not available (and even if so it was going to cost around 50-60% of phone's original purchased value. So instead we decided to buy new phone. And after lot of back and forth we settled for S20 FE.
The main camera is good. But the front camera and selfie is really poor for this kind of phone and price. In fact Redmi K20 which was almost half of the price of this one had better front camera.
The photos are grainy and blurry half of the times. And smoothening effect even after turning off all filters. This doesn't have autofocus I am aware. But most of the phones do not have for front camera.
Night mode and Gcam improves it somewhat but overall very disappointing front camera.
I checked with service centre and they mentioned there are no hardware or software issues. So I cannot get any return or refund as well.
Shockingly very few reviewers mentioned the issues with front camera and overall camera reviews were good. Now after doing some research see many users complaining about front camera. Seen some posts here and many on reddit as well. My 3 years old Pixel 3xl takes miles better photos and even almost 2.5 years old Redmi K20 was better in front camera marginally which was almost half of the price.
Given S20 FE was released almost 1 and half years back I do not have any hope of fixing the front camera by software updates from Samsung (they would have already done by now)
Or if anyone here have any idea if the front camera can be improved by some tweaks? (already tried night mode and gcam which are better but anything for normal shots?)

Is it better than the stock camera?
stock camera and stock camera app are two completely different things. Sometimes custom apps perform better.
You should look at it, then you can decide. I have the luck that I did not buy the same phone..
I bought the S20 FE and back then there was a screen bug that was enough for the seller to take the phone back - you'd have to search for the thread but it involves multi-touch on the screen.
There's an app you can DL to check it but it shows as when you do multi-touch swipes the screen malfunctions. Might work with your retailer as a faulty phone?
I would return it.
Try clearing the system cache and cam data first.
If the cam app has been updated, roll back to factory loaded version.
Also try in safe mode to rule out a 3rd party app causing the issue.

Tried the first and 3rd suggestions but same result. Second one means factory reset?

It's better to find the root cause. A factory reset is the last option. It's used after a major firmware upgrade, if a poorly written app alters hidden user settings or in the case of malware.
Problem being is you never learn what the root cause was... if the issue reappears in the future.
In the long run a conservative troubleshooting approach wastes less of your time. Use factory reset as a last ditch option. Always clear the system cache before you go full nuke as it can fix many strange glitches.
Also try a hard reboot (simulates pulling battery).
Did you do any firmware upgrades?
Did you use SmartSwitch to help load this phone?
If so factory reset. Do Not use SmartSwitch on the next load...

It's called Touch Screen Test - there's a thread on Reddit about it here...
NOTE: Put a www. in front of the addresses and copy them to your browser - if I put the link it posts the entire threads in this post, which seems a bit impolite for others.

I found another thread that claims it was fixed in updates so check you have the latest firmware also.

For me i found that i get the touchscreen issue, more like the glide keyboard plays up
Reboot always fixes it.
And its usually after phone has been on continually for days on end that it acts up
As for the front camera, I agree its poor.
I find i have to add colour to the images and chuck on the warm filter to full to get warmth.
I had the same bad luck of buying this phone. Have been facing the same issue. But there is something surprising I have found in the front camera of this device (S20 FE). See the difference between the photo mode and video mode of Front camera. I found the difference quite noticeable. This confirms that there is nothing wrong with the front camera of this device but definitely with its software. In video mode of Front Camera I see no lag as in photo mode and the camera is as smooth as it could be. Kindly see the difference and do let me know.

Hi all friends, camera of my S21u (SM-G998B/DS) has had a focus issue for around 4-5 months now. When shooting the camera fails to focus on objects or humans around 1 meter away or more. The image comes out blurred. My temporary solution is to shake the phone a few times at medium strength against my palm before taking photos. This helps a lot, but not always. Moreover, when using between 3x and 10x zoom, the screen displaying the image is shaking terribly. When more than 10x, no more shake. However, when shooting close-up it is very good and never fails to impress. I can get as close as 1cm and no intervention at all.
I always update my phone to the latest version available from Samsung, hoping that it would fix this issue. But issue still remains.
Same here, I noticed this a few months ago, always updated firmware, never hard drops (few small drops with case).
one solution is to give a little bump to the camera corner and the focus works.
Some say blocked OIS sensor, others say after certain firmware update, I don't know yet the correct answer.
Thank you mcbyte_it for sharing.
I feel this may be a software issue. I hope Samsung will fix it soon; otherwise this will be my last Samsung phone for me.
