No Call recording on Android 9 and above - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

Dear all, I have been reading some confusing input on this forum regarding being able to record phone calls on Android 9 using NON ROOTED phones......
As per an official release by ACR (Makers of a good call recording app) there will be no call recording functionality provided due to a removal of a necessary API from the operating system.... see below.
https://bitbucket.org/copluk/acr/issues/2418/kb-android-9-p-call-recording-issues
Can someone please confirm if they have successfully installed ACR (or anything comparable) on their NOTE 9 (UNROOTED) phone ?

The Note 9 runs 8.1 not 9.0, but call recording does work.

Just be careful to not upgrade to Android 9. It will then stop recording

It does say Pie 9.0 will lose call recording functionality.

Call recording works fine on Pie, both Boldbeast's Call Recorder and Samsung's built-in call recorder work great.

Didn't know Samsung had one build in. Is it exclusive to exynos? Or does it need root. My T-mobile note 9 doesn't have it.

Did you actually read any of this thread? Yes it works fine, it just depends on the app you use (ACR doesn't work).

I using a "Call Recorder" from Skvalex

Quote from Developers..... Recording does NOT work

Hi, on Android 9 Pie it's not possible to record both sides. Just your own voice can be recorded. This is system limitation and applies to all third-party apps.

But with Android 9 Pie, Google has made it impossible for apps such as Call Recorder - ACR and BoldBeast Android Call Recorder to be used to record calls. Unless, that is, you're willing -- or able -- to root your handset.

You sure? On the beta thread people said the same then they realized they were using speakerphone, which obviously recorded both sides. Another one is if you are in a region that Samsung has enabled call recording on their own app, then it obviously records. So some details would be more useful than just saying it works. Like what app, what model region and CSC would be useful. Cheers

If you are good with root, Skvalex's Call Recorder is great. I've been using it for years, and just verified it works fine on the MXP for both sides of call (using phone mic, haven't tested headset or anything). Needs ALSA installed (has info in settings), and there is already a settings profile for the MXP in the app.

I use this one, does not require Root, you can set recorded messages to either SD or Memory card, change the format, etc. Really is a great app, just record everything.

Just for anyone still wondering,
I can confirm that Automatic call recorder does work perfectly fine on Moto x Style/Pure without issue.
I've used "Call Recorder" by skvalex for a couple of years. The full version is expensive but there is a free trial to check if it all works ok on your handset.
i use total recall
I've tried Automatic Call Recorder in the past, but haven't found a combination of settings that doesn't necessitate using the speakerphone to record both sides of a conversation. Do any of the options in this thread overcome this?
For me having bluetooth headset 2-way call recording is essential for my work. Previously I was using Boldbeast Call Recorder on my Samsung Galaxy s4 (i9500) rooted. It worked very well! I have just got a Moto X Style (XT1572) un-rooted. I am waiting for the devs to respond as to whether they support the phone yet. Does anyone know of any other apps that may support 2 way call recording over bluetooth headsets on this phone?

ACR is the king in this arena. At least for stock devices. If you're running un-rooted, ACR is a fantastic option. I've been surprised by how well it's been working.
what settings are you using for ACR on the Note 8? I can't seem to get it to work.
Also, Boldbeast requires you to disable Knox on the Note 8, which is a deal breaker for many...it's one of the main selling points of the Note 8 and S8(+) phones.

This is how I have it set on my Note 8, mostly default. Works perfectly for me and I have it set to ask after each call if I want to keep the recording because I'll not always want to keep the file after. Being able to add notes to each recording is a nice perk, too. Hope this helps.

Boldbeast themself said this! https://www.boldbeast.com/forum/post5902.html#p5902
I own BoldBeast, but really can't stand their licence policy (one licence per SIM card), so I've been using (and purchased) ACR and it works just fine.
I "used" to use Call Recorder Pro but gave up on it because every other call answered would be blank and nobody could hear me or communicate.
Do you guys ever had that problem? I use my phone for business and can't afford any chances of glitches like that. Every call in and out has to be 100% successful.

I cant get it to work.
I've tried every recording method (including root) and it
1) just default to record with microphone and thus just one side of the conversation
2) even to ive set it to record all calls , it have to be triggered manually ...
So have you actually got it to work with automatically recording and recording both sides ???
Boldbeast Call Recorder has just released the newest version of V9.9, now no longer need to disable Knox.
Please install V9.9 in your Galaxy Note8, after installation if it doesn't work please power off and power on the phone, then it works at once, without touching Knox, without root, recorded calls are crystal clear in two sides.
You can try total recall.. recorded both side.

Yes, P20 rooted with magick disk.
With the permissions installed like in the post.
When you press options and then call recorded the app crashed, and the 2 buttons for double SIM calls disappear.
I tried mate 10 app, i think that is 8.0 and p20 is 8.1
For now, if you use Google ok deactivate it and try again. I don't have the APK for 8.1, but in my opinion it is not different . I will post the solution when it will be available.
What root solution is magick disk? Post a link please.
Why to root and use this recorder if there are many in Google Play that work great without the root?

State of RCS on Android

So if you haven't heard, RCS is supposed to produce a iMessage like experience for text messaging in android. some features are:
-Send large sized files
-In app live notifications like (someone is typing)
Just to name a few. it seems like this feature is a little bit of a mess since it requires carrier support, OEM support and app support (not so sure about this one). I heard that the last Galaxy s9 update in July enabled support for this. Either way, question is simple.
1. When do people think this will reach the masses?
2. People who have used this feature/are using this, what are your thoughts about this?
I'm excited for this but it really seems like a faraway dream at this point. with that let's talk about this

Call Recording

Google acting like A-holes about call recording. If anyone finds anything that can give us this again in at least the same way the ACR did, please share here. I would like to use this thread to help us gather updates and any info regarding bringing call recording to our S10 devices. If you are like me, you understand what an important and useful tool call recording can be. It's protected me from fraud and abuse over the years and I hate to see it go.
I still have my un-rooted One Plus 6T that has call recording baked in but to swap SIM anytime I need to make important phone calls will be a real annoyance. If anyone here can help with any info or updates or methods please share. I appreciate the help! Thank you!
Interested by that too, call recording might be illegal in some country it doesn't mean everyone shouldn't be able to use it.
I'm interested too, after some research in my opinion best solution is change csc country to have native call recording enabled by default on original dialer.
Change csc isn't possible by software yet but booting after reset with a sim card from country where native call recorder is enable does the trick.

Me Too!
I would be interested too. The law where I am is one party, and that one party permission can be mine!
Cube works for me as well, s10
Cube working good on my s10. G973F
I'm using this one, and it works perfect. With root it works even better.

I'm interested too, after some research in my opinion best solution is change csc country to have native call recording enabled by default on original dialer.
Change csc isn't possible by software yet but booting after reset with a sim card from country where native call recorder is enable does the trick.

Can someone try this and let others know. Someone people have done this with Galaxy Note 9 which was upgraded to Android Pie and then could not use call recorder. They inserted Thai SIM as the only sim and then it prompted them to reset and reboot few times and it worked for them. I want to know if it works before I buy S10.

No I meant I used call recorder in my previous rooted device (Note 9) and it worked better. however, actually it works also on S10.

Thank you!

I reverted back to Oreo. Everything works as it should now. The world makes sense again. Pie and One UI can suck it.
I'm using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appstar.callrecorder and it works fine on S10 in europe.
Try tis....it works well on my S10e (Malaysia)

I don't know, I just downloaded from above play store and it's working great. May be restricted in your country firmware.
