Hi! I have a Xiaomi Mi 8 chinese (with global rom MIUI 10.0.2.0 stable), magisk 17.1, TWRP 3.2.3 and rooted. I wanted to know if now I am able to receive OTA, if i can install it without doing nothing (if I have to do anything, what I have to do to [keeping everything: root, magisk...]) and if there is any difference between install small OTA and big ones like MIUI 9 -> MIUI 10 or Android 8 -> Android 9 or I install them in the same way. I couldn't find any tutorial about these questions
By the way, how can I flash my stock recovery?
Thank you!
I have the same version, haven't installed TWRP yet, not rooted, and i wanted to do it with magisk but i tried several times in the past and i cant get it to boot, also i couldnt do ota updates with TWRP aswell, so i have the same questions basically.

I had a loooot of trouble installing magisk.
Do this:
Boot TWRP.
Format data.
Install MIUI via TWRP.
Without rebooting, flash Magisk V17.1.
Install DM-VERITY AND FORCED ENCRYPTION DISABLER.
Perform fastboot format userdata.
Reboot.
Anybody can help?
Get bootloop for my mi 8 global stable 10.0.2.0
Waiting for the latest developments, because I use 10 global stable and try all the versions of magisk that I recommend until the latest version of the 17.2 magisk I use remains bootloop. Sad. Waiting for the angel to share ways.
Nobody can do anything
Very sad . Waiting for the angel's magical hand to share knowledge
Any luck with Magisk 17.3? Unfortunately I was in the same shoes but I went to xiaomi.eu's latest stable ROM and I can't complain so far.

Yes ?
The problem is Data Encryption. That is the reason you have to flash the DM Verity / Encryption Disabler and MUST format data (where you type 'yes' to confirm). Just an FYI, Multi .EU ROMs don't have data encryption, so Magisk should work out of the box. Unfortunately, i'm not willing to give up data encryption for the sake of Root. You can modify almost anything through the TWRP recovery file manager, and also disable apps through ADB Shell anyway-so root is less useful. If you lose your phone and don't have DATA encryption, your phone is open season for anyone and everything you have. Multi-ROM .EU has System encryption. GLOBAL ROM has system & data encryption as default.

Do you have the latest now on yours?
What is the reason why we can't have encryption with root? Is it something that might be fixed in time?
I've rooted several phones with root and never had this issue. I want to root to remove all the xiaomi bloatware but I don't want to lose encryption.

Yes, and it works perfectly.
About encryption you have the option in settings, maybe you can try to do the encryption again

The version I am using is 9.5 Global stable
I bought it from China and I have unlocked the phone.
So here is the problem.
First I downloaded the TWRP-3.2.3-0918 and installed in by one click in computer.
Then I went to the TWRP home page, I pressed the ROOT BUTTON and allowed it reboot when it finished.
However, it cannot reboot the system and it just came back to the TWRP page.
Unless I unroot it, I cannot reboot system.
PLEASE kindly help me to fix this problem. THANKS A LOT.
No one can help. Because Xiaomi Mi 8 doesn't support root.
you need to clear user data partition and install dm-verity force encryption disabler, miui encrypts the data portion so when you root the phone is not able to read it thus causing the bootloop
basically
boot twrp
flash Magisk
Install DM-VERITY AND FORCED ENCRYPTION DISABLER
reboot to bootloader
Perform
Code:
fastboot format userdata
Reboot
make sure u flash magisk 17.2!
Im try next

Am using 10.0.2.0 Global Stable Miui with Magisk 17.2. As mentioned above, you need to wipe data first to remove encryption! With encryption Magisk will not work. After formatting system and data, RMB to flash DM Verity and encryption disabler. DM Verity overrides recovery check at boot up so your recovery won't be replaced with stock recovery. Encryption disabler prevents encryption. Must be flashed before first boot.

Hufh. !!! As expected, no one can help. Indeed, the miui 10 can't be rooted.
Hi everyone,
I really looked many websites and I think the answer is no but I still wonder if there is a way to root MI 8 with magisk from twrp without format the phone? I am running latest global stable rom with unlocked bootloader. I just want to root and install magisk for certified play store, netflix and adaway but setting and installing all apps again will take some time... As far as I know it was possible before as I did it at a MI 6 running miui 9.
Thanks in advance.
No
magisk, Boot Image Patching
YES! I finally figured out how to get root and keep encryption with Stock Global but you have to flash an alternate kernel first. You can keep your encryption without issues. I've been using this for a few weeks without issues now. The STOCK kernel has been the issue the whole time.
For Stock MIUI Global (Beta or Stable) Already Setup & Encrypted:
1.) Boot to TWRP Recovery (i'm using twrp-3.2.3-4)
2.) Flash Sphinx kernel (i'm on v2.5) You CANNOT keep ROOT while retaining encryption on a STOCK Kernel at this time!
3.) Flash Magisk (i'm using 18.0)
4.) Flash Disable_Dm-Verity ONLY! (DO NOT FLASH DM-VERITY with Encryption REMOVER or FEC in the filename or you will screw up your encryption!)
-I use this DM-Verity remover here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389
-you need to re-name the zip file with only "DM-Verity" in the filename without the ForceEncryption in the name before flashing! The filename determines/triggers what the zip disables!
DO NOT ERASE OR FORMAT ANYTHING!
Reboot and enjoy root while retaining encryption.
-You need to follow these steps on every new ROM flash!
-You can't do OTA updates, you need to flash new full ROMs!
Oh sorry I missed that he's already unlocked the bootloader

I can confirm this works, or at least in global ROM. I tried flashing Xiaomi.eu rom from global, but I couldn't boot it. I remember someone said that rom doesn't have encryption implemented.

I used twrp recovery, but when i installed the global rom it doesn't work anymore, it started the miui recovery instead of custom. Help please

Hello, I'm running stock MIUI 10(global) on my Mi 8. It is already rooted. I was flashed DM-verify with encryption remover. Then rooted it.
Now I want to encrypt my phone without wiping data. I tried flashing Sphinx kernel then encrypt the phone but it failed. Should I reset my phone and setup again to encrypt the phone or it is possible to encrypt it without resetting?
Hey everyone, i want to root my phone with magisk and install Xposed. I also want to disable forced encryption as well as DM verity on my phone. Can someone provide the correct steps to do it. I am on latest may security patch.
So what i did was:
1) temporary booted the twrp. Flashed Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt Disabler to remove forced encryption. Without rebooting, flashed the latest magisk zip.
2) Reboot. Device gets stuck in bootloop.
3) Booted into recovery and factory reset. Restart and phone booted up properly
However when i open magisk it says upgrade tp additional magisk requires additional setup, so it asks me to download the files.(This message only appears when i flash the Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt disabler, if i don't flash the Universal DM-Verity, ForceEncrypt disabler, magisk installs perfectly fine without any errors)
4) I download the files and again bootloop. Again factory reset from recovery.
Please someone provide steps to disable forced encryption + DM verity as well as install magisk with xposed framework.

To make this thing work is to Format Data for the first time after installing the Rom. After formatting data flash disable force encryption.
You'll have to flash everytime you flash a new rom.
The bootloop is happening because you device can't read the Data partition because its encrypted.
I am using the same method and it's working fine for me.

What are the commands to disable encryption & dm verity for android 11 in fastboot? Every time I flash mine B partition no root but boot alone bootloops and boot_a boot loops.
I can't root my Hisense 43A6H because of this encryption I think?
In this guide I will show you how to decrypt this phone
You might be asking:
(What are the advantages of decrypting?)
Well, it is much easier to switch between custom roms when you are decrypted and you don't have to wipe internal storage everytime you flash a new rom and there may be a performance increase (Maybe).
(What are the disadvantages of decrypting?)
If your phone gets stolen.. The stealer can access all of your data and can even remove the pattern by just rebooting to twrp and deleting a few files so your phone will not have any protection whatsoever.

Settings, security, down towards the bottom it tells you
OK so I'm encrypted... Am I secured somewhat from theft correct? And yes I know it's not 100% but it is safer than decrypted?
Another question let's say I don't mind being encrypted because I have a flash drive with otg and all that... Is that good enough? Or should I go decrypted all the way so I can start backing up on twrp and restoring twrp without errors which would mean no use for flash drive...
I know it's my choice just trying to make things easier and to understand a little more

If you are really concerned about your data and you are OK with wiping internal storage, then I don't recommend decrypting and just leave it encrypted.
I have oos decrypted via disable force encrypt!
Today I went through the following process to update to the latest version of OOS.
1. Flash full oos & twrp
2. reboot to recovery
3. Flash magisk
4. flash disable force encrypt
5. reboot
rebooted, but back to TWRP,,,
there was a "0" directory in sdcard and inside it my data was in it.
Do you know the solution?

DFE is Disable Force Encryption also known as dmverity in some cases.
And yea you can reencrypt without losing data but it takes time depending on the size of files you have.

can we use this method for boot dual os (oos+custom) , when we install dual os twrp by @Zackptg5 we face problem with encryption and password protection on one of the os.
is it possible this method help this problem???
This does not work for my OP7Pro, when you say boot into Recovery and wipe data. Is that the stock recovery or TWRP? When I try decrypting using the instructions using TWRP, when I reboot the phone, it boots into the boot animation. But the animation is slow and the phone just gets stuck there and won't boot any further. Trying to decrypt so it's easier to get LineageOS installed. My phone seems to have problems when on the B partition reading the internal storage.

But the animation is slow and the phone just gets stuck there and won't boot any further. Trying to decrypt so it's easier to get LineageOS installed. My phone seems to have problems when on the B partition reading the internal storage.

Are you running an open beta build? OnePlus did something dumb with the beta builds where this no longer works. I've been racking my brain trying to find a way to decrypt a beta too. For now, only the main builds of OOS are decryptable.

No, my phone was on a main build. Just wasn't having any luck and gave up. I'm on LineageOS now but spent an entire day trying to get that installed and working properly. Something was weird, slot A could read my internal storage, but when I switched to slot B the internal storage just disappeared. Once I got TWRP and LOS installed on both slots, the problem disappeared. But I still haven't attempted to decyrpt for fear of messing up my current setup.

I'm on OOS 11 Beta 1 and decryption works fine for me. I was on 10.3.7 (decrypted) before.
Do you have to be on OOS? Or could any clean flashed rom work?
who can help. i cant decrypt my op7t pro. Well, let's start with the fact that when formatting dalvik cache and data, I have an error and nothing is formatted. as with (Go to wipe - Format data and click yes). Formatted this data via adb, installed No Verity Mod and now I have bootloop
I've been struggling to flash Android 12 without my internal storage to be unaccessible by TWRP... I simply can't decrypt my data and the only way to fix it is to format data and revert back to a Android 11 ROM.
Did anyone manage to flash Android 12 successfully? How?
Well I gotta tell you sadly, decryption does not work for any Android 12 system currently. So you gotta have to live with it, until we get decryption support.
And don't try to fiddle with disabling encryption, I did it and I quickly regretted it.
Also, you always have to format data after flashing a ROM to remove encryption, except if you update your current ROM.
ADB Sideload is the answer.
If you have TWRP installed already then as you know when you go into recovery you cant see any data. User ADB Sideload instead and it will flash it the same way

ADB sideload isn't the answer, because that's already what I use to flash a Android 12 based ROM. Doesn't change that TWRP can't decrypt data

That is because their no recovery that will decrypt A12, just not possible yet. Sideload is the way for now, it works fine. Decryption isn't available yet and hopefully someone cracks it soon
Not towards achieving decryption, however after flashing A12 ROM, and clicking on format data, I get numerous errors with TWRP. Any solution? Is it related to recovery or some issue with data partition? Thanks!
Many people have issues with TWRP. Flash Orangefox recovery in TWRP, boot into it and try.

I'm having the same issue but how can I revert back to a Android 11 ROM if my internal storage is inaccessible?
I did it just by flashing Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_03.04.2020.zip after flashing the rom.
You can search for this file in the web.

I used disable dm verity force encrypt and a12 worked without a problem, I can access image and more! My recovery is orangefox. It worked really great with a12. No problem until now!

At which installation stage did you flash it under OrangeFox? Before or after A12 installation?

After A12 and magisk.
Directly after DfE don't forget to format data.

that means, that you don't update your rom to a new version without loosing data.
you are always doing a clean install.
or am I wrong?

No, if you're decrypted with DFE once and formated with yes, you can flash new ROM and DFE without formating. Means dirty install without loosing internal data. Or you make clean by only wiping data and in this case also your internal SD stay as before without loosing your personal files.

Do I have to flash DFE again after each OTA update?
