How to install Google phone app - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

Anyone knows a way to install and use google phone/dialer app instead of the default moto that comes preinstalled and is a system app, impossible to uninstall without root.
I prefer Google's dialer because of the spam filter.
I am stock on the retail version, BL locked, no root.
Thanks

Just try out an apk from a third party source.

Google Phone
This is the one that's installed on the X4 Project Fi version. You don't have to uninstall the Moto one just make the Google dialer the default.

Unfortunately, this one fails to install....
EDIT - That said, I did find this, and it installs!!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-google-phone-v14-0-175904292-bubble-t3708218

But no spam filter...
That APK says "Does not work:
1. Spam Caller ID (automatically filter suspected spam calls)"
My Android one x4 came with Google phone app but no caller ID / spam setting. Cannot find any info on this defect.

Moto X, Pure Androïd ?

Hi,
I have notice two things different from Nexus :
- Preinstalled calendar app is not the Google native calendar that we can found in Play Store. ( but it's easy to do the replacement ).
- Native E-Mail app from play store is not compatible with new Moto X : this one is annoying...
Did someone notice it ?
Edit : ok, just contacted Moto Support because the Play Store is telling me E-Mail app not compatible with new Moto X.
They should contact me later to give me answer.

I thought other than the special Moto features (e.g. Moto Voice) it was stock android. So it has it's own Moto email and calendar apps?
Is is stock android e-mail app. But for an unknown reason you can't update it with the version from play store.
I have asked support about this and i'm still waiting for an answer.

Allo, Google Asst

I installed Allo, having been told that Google Assistant will come with it. I have a OP3T
After downloading it seems nothing more than Google Now?? Is there something else I need to do
I would really appreciate any help you can give
Hi @eric0668
Allo will allow you to use the google assistant only within the application it self. If you would like google assistant instead of google now then there are different ways to do that.
Thanks H3rnand3zz
In spite of the number of posts I am really a newbie.
1. So even when I open Allo, it seems no different than Google Now
2. Could you help me get it working like it does on the Pixel [Non root]. I had the Pixel and really liked Google Assistant
Thanks Again

Sure no problem... So for the first question. You have to send Google assistant a message. So on the bottom right corner of the Convo list click new message icon and chose Google assistant.
2nd question download this app.... It works perfect and will give you Google assistant but you need root.

Unfortunately, you cannot get Google Assistant to work in the same way as it does on the Pixel without rooting. Downloading Allo does not activate Google Assistant through your Google app, it simply lets use it server-side. To enable true Google Assistant, either root or wait a few weeks. Google has stated that they are officially releasing Assistant on all phones with Android 6.0+ "soon".

You can use Freedom OS. There's google assistant which I'm using. You just need to select it in the Aroma Installer.

[REQUEST] Module to Disable Google Assistant

Now that the US Virgin Island trick to avoid Google Assistant has been fixed, a module that disables Google Assistant will really help us who doesn't like it and want to use Now On Tap. Thanks!
Does google assistant enable drains our battery?

https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...ndroid-device-switch-back-google-now-0174676/ if that was the trick you were talking about I'm sorry. Best I could find. You could also remove Google Assistant voice search and Google and that should remove anything with the assistant. Or just turn the option off
That's not working unfortunately. I'm on 8.1 and had to add the lines to the build.prop, but it didn't change anything.
Second this request. You can still reach the old google voice search with a searchbar widget but I'd like it to respond to "Okay Google" and be able to map it to a button rather than the Google assistant which doesn't put answers and search results on the same page like google now.
DO this, not tested by me, but should work
1) Create a file /sbin/.core/img/.core/service.d/google_assistant_disabler.sh
2) Write the following in that
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
resetprop ro.opa.eligible_device false
3) Change its permissions to 0755, and owner:group to 0:2000
4) Reboot and use Google now instead of Google assistant
Jaymin hasn't tested.
Has anyone tried this yet?

Yes, it works. But I am using Termux, Termux-boot and sudo. Google now is back and Android Auto is working properly in my natural language right now.
Many thanks to Jaymin!

Remove "All Things Google" (Moto E5 Plus) (Hannah)

This question has probably been asked before but is there a way to remove "everything" Google related? I'm using stock rom. I have MetroPCS.
I know that by removing some Google apps will cause dependency issues but is there any way to do this with no problems whatsoever? Thanks

I have the Metropcs e5 plus and have disabled most Google services. Some apps throw up a notification saying they won't work unless Google play services is enabled, messages, contacts, etc. I've found they generally work fine just disable that notification. Make sure and remove the Google app from being and assist app in settings.
I used to have all Google stuff disabled but right now I'm using Gboard, maps (as a backup to here), the default messages apps and contacts. Mainly I've disabled the Google core spyware apps — play services, framework, search, store, etc.
Most bloat and garbage on this device can be disabled except for a couple Moto apps. I thought about rooting but really wouldn't be gaining much.
Need Magisk To work
Magic gapps works perfect on my moto e 5plus. I simply when not using an app that needs playstore running. I hit module off resart phone. Then go to an app disabler disable device health ,google playstore and google playservices. Everything else is systemlessly disabled. I get no annoying notifications except one on reboot. Also gboard works with all things google disabled. Hope my experience helps you out.

Question Google Authenticator not updating?

Does anyone have experience with apps not showing updates in the Play store app for their Pixel 5a 5g?
I saw a recent blog posting about how the Google Authenticator app finally supports a cloud sync option to backup TOTP codes between devices. It talks about updating the app and getting the feature. But when I go to the Play store, it acts like the Authenticator app is already up to date at version 5.20R4 and says "Last updated Jul 11, 2022"...
Now it's Google Authenticator 2. You need to install

Hmm, when I go there in a browser and try to install, it says my device already has this app installed.
Trying to search for it in the Play app also ends up on the same page showing the existing Authenticator app.
Uninstall and only then install GA2.
I tried and it really doesn't offer it. It seems like the play store considers this just one app and for whatever reason keeps offering 5.20R4 as the latest version. I tried it on my wife's Pixel 6a and have the same result! Meanwhile, I installed on a really old Moto G4Play and it got version 6 with the new account sync option.
Also, uninstalling means you lose all the existing TOTP accounts from the older app, so anyone trying this should make sure to use the QR code export/import flow to save them somewhere else first!
Google and most Android Play Store apps does staged rollouts, where it releases the latest version to a couple of people/devices at a time. It takes an while for every device to get the latest version.
If you don't want to wait, you have to download the apk from a trusted source and install it manually
Thanks, it didn't occur to me from reading their blog post that it wasn't already rolled out.
I guess I've never really looked for a particular app update before, so didn't realize it worked that way. I assumed that going to check manually should find the same latest versions for everyone.
