Just to let you know guys that the Tab A 8.0 2017 has been updated to Oreo with the September security patch. More info on the attached screenshots.
Finally! And it's even Oreo 8.1. So now it just needs to spread to other varants of the devices, as the base hardware is identical...

Yes, it's for the Wi-Fi only variant. I think LTE variants will have to wait a little longer because of carriers and the like. And from what I checked, there is no firmware currently available for any of them. Maybe soon
I wonder why there is no custom ROM and ports for tab a 8.0. Am I missing something here...?
So I just bought this tablet last week. Same exact model, 2017 variant and everything. How do I force it to check for updates? Or is there a way to sideload the update? Right now, it tells me under "Software Update" that the latest updates have already been installed. I mean, if I have to be patient, I can do that, too. Does resetting re-download the updates, by any chance? Like I said, it's still relatively new, so setting it back up wouldn't be TOO much of a pain.
And what is your opinion on this? Do I need to root? Right now, the thing seems to run pretty nicely. I'm really only considering rooting it at this point to get rid of the Samsung bloatware.
I have the SM-T580 (2016 - WiFi only) and I keep getting the same message about having the latest updates too!! We must have patience!!

Well, in order to do that I just flashed a nougat ROM with a different product code (XAA before, XNZ now) with Odin. And then I got the Oreo update via a notification on the tablet and I just hit the yes button.
I'm good without root, Samsung Experience has all the functionality that I need and then some more, so at least for me there's no need to root my devices. The same for my S9+

And also you don't need to go through the hassle of setting up the tablet again, just use the CSC HOME in Odin and you're good to go.
OK, one followup.... What's the deal with the OEM Unlock thing? I have Developer Options turned on, I've spoofed the date, checked for updates manually, and rebooted. Also let it just sit, all of the tips I've seen, but no OEM Unlock option. What am I missing? It could just be the kind of puck I normally have, that is not entirely out of the realm of possibility.
Hmm, i tried flashing the newest 8.1 ROM from updato but after entering everything into ODIN and pressing Start, it only took like 5 seconds and then it comes up saying PASS! but when it rebooted, nothing appeared to have changed.. its still on 7.1.1..
Do i have to flash an Australian 7.1.1 then use the upgrade feature on the ROM?

you know, I don' know how to answer your question, I am getting ready to try to root one of these myself, I ran into a problem with this tablet and I would like to tell you about it so you know beforehand. I have stock set up right now, and I play alot of games on my tablet, the one thing I have found with this tablet is DLC DOES NOT usually work with it, when you open a game offline it shows as no DLC. I gotta try to figure out how to root this damn thing as the proprietary stuff is VERY severe.
Nice tablet, GREAT portable TV with 400 GB SD Card and all, but the security on the device is Rediculous.
This war of mine will not show as DLC installed even if you purchase it unless your online, same with Project Highrise.
Roller Coaster Tychoon Classic works perfectly though (DLC always shows as present and available).. I don't get it.

If you flash cf root kernel you will get root. You don't need superone click.
Try reboot your phone it should work.
Sent from Galaxy on latest nightly with neo kernel
First of all... what was the original firmware?
Second: I hope you have not messed with repartition and bootloader?
yeah, check what version she's running and flash cf-root, since you allready are capable of flashing with Odin you dont need one-click root.

Try flashing baseband lp6
Will do any leads where i can find the lp6 baseband searching is not helping me out.
Thanks in advance
Here's the latest LP6 modem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24787908&postcount=309 Just flash with CWM Recovery.
But why not flash a LP6 based rom? Like AlBa or TheMIDTeam's B&G?
The ICS update id did is the hacked 4.03 one via odin I had root on the phone before doing it. The guide i followed is www . androidaddicted . com / samsung-3/how-to-upgrade-samsung-galaxy-note-gt-n7000-to-ice-cream-sandwich-ics-4-0-3-n7000xxlp1-411.html so i dont have CWM on it only download mode, should i reflash to a stock 2.3.6 rom ? If so I have no idea where this phone is from (region wise) is there a way to tell so i flash the correct stock rom?
Thanks.

Dontflsh via Odin flash via cwm recovery
I dont have CWM only odin on the phone, when i turn it on with vol down i get download mode, if i turn it on with vol up and the center button i get android system recovery, can i rename the modem file something where it will work with the apply update from external storage option ?
I put the modem zip on a microsd and tried to use android recovery to flash and it says signature verification failed
So i just downgraded to 2.3.6 and will properly root and install CWM on it and then do the ics install thanks, 2.3.6 works like a champ with the phone calls.
Yeah, then it's definately the modem file that messes things up.
With CMWR installed you can flash any rom you like in the developers section. The ICS roms I've tried are imilka's CM9v2 and ICS Stunner 5.0 Beta. CM9 was absolutely great but I like the added functionality that Stunner brings to the phone. Both roms are based on open source Android so no Samsung apps, if you want the s-pen apps like taking a screenshot, s-memo, s-note etc. then you're better off flashing a rom based on the LP6 leak.
Cool ill look into those roms thanks for all the help.
Hi all,
sorry if this is stupid because im kind of new to this.
I am having a similar problem with my galaxy note gt-n7000. its upgraded to ICS (no root, no custom flashed roms etc) from my carrier (Vodafone AU) and it was fine but after a week it also gets no call audio..
When i attempt a call, it connects successfully, (Although it doesn't make any calling sound) and I cannot hear the other party, but they can hear me
Im pretty sure its not a hardware issue, as other applications such as viber and tango both work fine.
Any ideas would be much appreciated. thanks in advance.
Hi Folks,
please bare with me I am a total new comer in this forum and new on Android because of my new Phone:

I accidentially installed the franco.Kernel .... don't aks me why.... and since then I am in big troubles :crying:

So how do I get back to a "normal" Kernel and which file can I use?
Thanks a lot for looking into this.

You would better restock your note.
You will need a rom with four files: .pit , .pda, modem and csc
The rom MUST be made for your phone and you may find it in samfirmware.com.
If your phone can't enter dowload mode, you'll need a USB JIG.
Hope this can help.
After reading the Odin resulst, try to flash only PDA as your error is comming from the PIT file.
Uncheck "repartition"
First get a kernel for your phone in tar.md5, and flash it by selecting it in the PDA tab. Don't use PIT for now.

Phone has to be in download mode to use odin

Please help,
I was trying to root my Samsung galaxy note gt-i9220, I followed the video instructions from rootgalaxynote.com, I used the CWM.Zip, CWM-supers-v0.87.zip and after I installed the franco kernel-r5.zip
PROBLEM: after installing the franco kernel when I restarted the system my note comes on and shows Galaxy Note GT-I9220 and after that I have a black screen.
What can I do to get back the original state, it seems I can not handle rooting it. However it can get to the download mode when I place the volume up+power+home burton.
NB: I did not use a computer while doing this neither did I backup any thing
Magisk 22.0 Patched Boot Image
I'm not responsible for any bricked device.
Installation
1- Just flash it via odin.
2- After 1-3 loops it will boot into recovery. Don't panic just format data from there.
3- Install Magisk-v22.0.apk
4- Open it and click "Okay"
5- Enjoy it.
I'll release in three days twrp and ofox for Android 11. Use this rooted boot image for now.
Great Work.
Looking forward to your Android 11 TWRP soon.
any progress updates for us, maybe?
Thanks man, awesome work! Looking forward to try your twrp version!
Thanks for the patched image. Root was one of the primary things keeping me on Android 10. Good to know now there's root for Android 11 as well. Will definitely be using this when I upgrade.
Hi everybody. In this moment, I have root for Android 10 version. Does it possible to get smartphone updates (Android 11 included) and keep the current root without problems? Or Should I unroot the device and after that, update in Android 11 version? Thank you.
does this root option breaks the fuse? after which samsung in the event of a guarantee knows that something was done? knox flag?

Hello my friends
1. Can I upgrade the mobile system from (Android 10 UI 2.5) to (Android 11 Oneui 3.1) using 5 files via odin?
2. Is this (patchedRamdisk.tar) a root of (android 11 Oneui 3.1)?
3. Then flash (TWRP-3.5.1_10.0_Beta1) and install (magisk-v22.0.apk).
And if there is a mistake in this, how is it to be done.

Hello
my sister somehow managed to soft brick the phone.
It started randomly rebooting, then she ask for my help, i started android update (phone is 2yrs old and was never updated). I thought this would solve the problem, my plan B was factory reset.
But just when phone was installing the update it rebooted and never booted again.
I did factory reset (factory mode), didnt help.
Downloaded fresh latest firmware from sammobile, flashed with Odin and still doesnt work. Odin says that everything was OK.
I may or may not download wrong firmware tho, on the invoice for the phone it says SM-G780/DS but i can not find /DS version anywhere?(i suppose this is irrelevant?)
Any help here? Should i root my phone and try flash firmware with TWRP?
***EDIT***
phone rebooted while i was doing system update from Android 11 to Android 12. My guess is that this somehow bricked the phone.
Earlier i downloaded Android 12, Odin successfully installed it but phone didnt work.
Now I tried download Android 12 and i get this error

I am really lost here.
I searched xda forums/google and if I am not wrong i should somehow unloc OEM before flashing any OS on the phone?.
OEM was never unlocked in develop. options. Is there a way to unlock it with ADB or somehow ?
Tried to flash TWRP but i got error on the phone saying OEM LOCKED
How to fix the missing OEM Unlock button on the Samsung Galaxy S9/S8/Note 8
try to follow this guide so you can see unlocked bootloader if its hidden.
then you can flash without errors hope it helps
you can get new phone if you have warranty

This is incorrect. It's not needed if you're flashing stock fw.

It looks like it's missing a letter before the /DS. What does download mode say your model is?
