Screen burn-in check thread - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

I think a lot of us have had our phone for about a month now, and this is my second OLED phone so I know how to treat it with more care in comparison to my old Moto Z Force. (look in the attachments ( :silly: ) [Ignore the cracks, they're on the glass screen protector, not the phone itself]
But, so far I haven't gotten any screen burn I on my Note 9 (I use an app called White to check it). I use about 50-60% brightness throughout the day and sometimes a little more during gaming and watching videos, an SOT of 30 secs, AOD is activated, so far so good.
What about everyone else?

Hey there .
You shouldn't check for screen burn in with this blue image
Try this dark green picture I will upload (use full screen brightness)
Or this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oledtools
I've noticed some strange pattern on my phone not sure if screen burn in or faulty oled panel
I'll have an eye on it

None here had since release but then again I run full immersive mode so that always helps

One month old note 9 it's a shame
And I have no clue why
None of my apps have such an layout
Screen off time is 15 seconds and after I had screen burn in on my s8 I was really careful on my note
But I have to admit I am really not sure if this is really screen burn in or maybe structure stuff of the phone or the panel
I opened every app and I have no app that have this layout or anywhere close to it

Yeah that burn-in looks insanely weird, assuming if it even is burn in. I tried OLED tools and didn't notice any burn in on my panel there either thankfully, however I did try your dark green image on my phone and even at 100% brightness the picture looks black.
EDIT: Okay you're supposed to look at this in COMPLETE darkness, and I do see the green on my phone now, and from the looks of things I still don't see anything in particular burned into my panel. Though, is the picture supposed to be darker at the bottom than it is at the top?

Yeah I am also not sure might be the panel maybe structure thing (really checked every app for a similar pattern but there is none and I've seen burn in before I know what's causing it)
Sorry should have told you have to look at it in complete darkness
And nope the image should be everywhere the same green
Should be a slight green so the green pixels are just turned on a little bit
You should check the app I posted in the first post it's very useful to check for burn in or any other stuff maybe you can also post results j am really curious

Well, oddly enough the green image is a "bright" green at the top of my phone and gradually fades to black toward the bottom, but this isn't anything I can see in any other program I use. I used OLED tools but it seems to just be an app to swap through colors? I can do that using White

Yeah for me this pattern thing is also not visible (ATM I wish I never looked for this thread )only if you really "want" to see it
No no oled tools offers you different stuff in the main menu the first one it the one to test the panel
In this mode you can swipe to change the "brightness" of the color/pixels
And single tap shows a button to change color
Edit: so for me only the green pixels have this weird pattern blue and red are fine

My note 8 has some burn in ghosting from watching YouTube in non landscape mode. It's not horrible but its there for sure. Going to try to be a little more careful this time around. Also you tube didnt uave a dark mode until recently either. Not sure if dark mode will help

What kind of burn in you gout from YouTube ? Like where the video is or the down below ?
Cause I thought about that a few times and my s8 kind of stated that
Using black theme or so gives you kind of reverse screen burn in
So the part that is black wont burn in for sure but the other pixels that are on those are aging faster then those that are off because of black
So you will see that after a time
Call me crazy here but that's what my s8 had
I had black navbar and at the end the navbar was like reversed burned in because those pixels were not that often used then the other ones
That's what ive noticed
Ify theory is wrong correct me

I have this very same weird pattern visible on dark screens on my Note 9. Must be the panel or something else behind the screen. Thought I was the only one, but apparently not... Not sure what's going on.
---------- Post added at 01:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:00 AM ----------
I would really like to know what's causing this. My phone is also only a month old. This device is too expensive to have this kind of issue with the screen this early. What's weird is that I noticed it several days ago but then apparently it went away, but came back today.
I'm stumped.
---------- Post added at 01:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:08 AM ----------
If this is affecting several users and their devices, then Samsung has a defective screen on their hands and needs to be made aware it! Please guys, let me know your findings and/or solutions to this. I can't see it at all on white or brightly colored screens. Only on certain dark ones.

So confirmed I am not the only one
Could you also post pictures of your screen like I did ? Would be interesting

These windows is where is most noticeable. Also has a very faint line under the top video box

I experienced burn-in on my Note 8 and S7 edge. Both were caused from a combination of having auto brightness enabled, along with heavy usage of YouTube while on my daily drives. I would have my phone attached to a car mount sitting on the air vents. While driving, the different lighting angles of the day would cause my screen to trigger daylight mode. I found out the hard way, that long periods of daylight mode watching videos was creating a burn-in on my screen. With this being a common problem, you would think that Samsung would consider this problem by allowing users more control on adjusting the daylight mode settings a bit more. Since then, I'm currently using "Screen Brightness Control(F-Lux)" to auto maintain a screen brightness between 35% - 70%. So far no burn-in on my note 9.

I've used the OLED tools and other tools to check burn in and it seems that i don't have any burn-in whatsoever, not even on the more used areas like the nav bar or notification bar. I use a system wide Amoled black theme that i created from the ThemeGalaxy app. I frequently run in fullscreen mode (or atleast try to) with a transparent nav bar with translucent icons. I typically have my brightness in the mid to high range but rarely full brightness. Even my most frequent used apps and system apps are completely black for the background and i use Vanced Youtube for the Amoled black background. Hope this helps for those that want to slow screen burn-in.

Today I am really just confused ?
Yesterday I showed you this dot pattern in my screen specials on the green pixels
Today thought like "take another look"
And it's gone
Everything is working like it should be
I have no clue why
Didn't change anything (only thing that comes to mind first is battery charge I will have a look again later)
But it's just gone
no dots nothing at all
Someone in this thread also said it disappeared and comes back
So let's investigate what's causing it

Yep, mine has done the very same thing. I think it has to do with when the phone gets hot and the water cooling system is activated... but that's just a wild guess. Will take many who are having the same issue to investigate and test it out.

This thread reminded me to shift my desktop icons around.
I had burn in on my previous Note 8 that had them stuck on the main screen.
Possibly a combination of Auto Brightness and Super Crazy Outside Brightness.
- Which I just remembered to turn off.
So...Keep your eyes OPEN!

As far as I know there is nothing to be activated with water cooling
This super carbon water cooling thing is just marketing bull**** ?
The note 9 have a noticeable bigger heat pipe than other phones and that's all
No real magic (search on YouTube "note 9 Jerry")
Yesterday I took the pictures with low battery state so I will drain battery now to the same amount and check
And also check your heat idea
Let's have a look

Use the displayed tester app by brainstree to check for screen burn in. Especially use the grey #8080 test card color. You can also adjust the brightness level by swiping the up or down . Normally the grey will show defects well.

My Nexus One has Screen Burn In of Notification Bar

i just noticed that my 1 month old nexus one has the notification bar burnt in. go to landscape view in the browser, load a white background like google.com, and sure enough i can see very faintly the notification bar.
i've always kept the display on auto brightness. i'm very curious to hear if anyone else checks their screen if they have the same issue. the phone is only 1 month old, maybe 2 at the tops, so its very strange for this to happen. anyone else?
Had mine since end of March. No burn-in or any type of ghosting. I have my screen time-out set to 30 seconds. I wonder if that's got anything to do with it.
that's weird. my time out has always been at the default of 2 minutes. surely that isn't too much different though. 1.5 minutes shouldn't make or break it.

how bad is it? Is it possible to show us a picture?
its not too bad, but definitely there. the concern is how new this phone is. what happens after 6 months?
I'll try to take a pic later, but don't have a good camera on me.

Definately, you should give htc a call and tell them whats up. No rush on a picture.
AMOLED displays are worse for burn in than old CRT's, so br interesting to see how these fair
Got mine in late Jan and no sign of it.

Can't say either way if 1.5 minutes more of screen-on time can create the burn-in. But compared to the standard 30-sec time-out on most phones (some have 15 sec), 2 minutes is pretty long. You may want to set it to a shorter time-out duration.
you REALLY have to look close to see it. I tried it on black screen and you can't see it all. except in landscape the notification bar switches so at the very left inside the bar you can see the small faded line of the portrait bar.
i don't care enough to call HTC for any type of exchange or repair. I've heard the horror stories of their service too!
I have slight burn in on mine too. It's expected and I doubt the screen time out has anything to do with it. Keep in mind that any use of the phone the notification bar usually stays in the same place. Sometimes I have maps nav going on and that alone keeps the display on for the length of a car trip.
Also you guys can test by getting Dead Pixel Detect from the market and cycling through a few different colors.
well I'm not gonna get all worked up about it. sucks it happened so soon, hopefully it doesn't get worse. I'll try that dead pixel app just to see.
I'll take a pic shortly, but I don't know if it will actually be visible from a photo.
thats bad if its true....still a new phone with this problem already? wow..mine is less than a week old ...I will keep an eye out for it though, and if anyone has a solution that would be nice...
Drawing white on AMOLED requires much more than drawing black.
One more reason for using Desire (or a black notification bar theme)
I have two Nexus One's. The first was the Tmobile version which I used on ATT EDGE. That device has the purple tint issue and also has some burn in(uneven wear)where the notification bar is. Unfortunately I ran it with the brightness at 100%, 24-7. Now, it is very slight, but it is there.
I also have the 3G ATT version and it has no purple tint and has no burn in(uneven wear) yet and I've used it more now that I did the EDGE version. BUT, I never run this one with 100% brightness unless I have to.
Also, it is better to run at very low brightness for the first say hundred hours because there is a sharper dropoff in brightness half life during that time, making burn in(uneven wear)detectable with the human eye more likely to occur.
At the end of the day, for my situation, I blame myself for running at 100% brightness. I should have known better. LCD, with as long as they have been around, have innovated to the point of having very long half lives making burn in possible, but very rare. I was operating the way I always had with mobile devices. BUT, with these new screens, new care must be taken until AMOLED matures with higher brightness half life.
100% brightness I understand, but auto setting and this still happened in a month?
that pixel detector app definitely shows the burn in. I can see the icons too for 3g, signal meter, M from the pm time stamp, etc.
I guess there's no way to fix other than replace the screen? cause I'll change my notification bar to black if I had known this could happen.
I wonder what I should do...repair, HTC warranty, live with it, etc
I have the same problem. t-mobile nexus one. Happened about 2 months after I first got it. HTC replaced it. And it happened again on the new one. I keep it on 100% brightness pretty much all the time except at night. Doesn't bother me much though. I hardly use my phone in landscape and it's only on white backgrounds.

If you get a new one just remember that even with a black notification bar, you're at risk. You will also need to run dark or black backgrounds to stay even with the black bar. Otherwise you will end up with a very bright bar and the rest of the screen will look yellowish/grey compared to it. It's always about making sure all the pixels are as evenly worn as possible. Another thing you can do is switch to a black notification bar now and run bright backgrounds and you can reverse some damage. It will never be perfect but you can get the wear more even again thus making the issue even less noticeable than it already is.
I agree about auto setting should have prevented this. At least you would think, but I'm no expert.
Several more things that can be done to help prevent this issue: if browsers or apps you use have the option to turn off the notification bar, use it. The more you can keep that notification bar off the screen, the more evenly you can wear the screen. Also, set your screen timeout to a shorter level. I used to use two minutes but now I use 30 seconds. The time that the screen is on and the bar is on the screen add up and can eventually contribute to uneven wear, and it's just wasted time waiting for the screen to timeout.
i'm seeing some faint burn in too
I don't feel so bad since I'm not the only one.
even with a black notification bar you would prob need white letters which would still burn in the white letters.
why the hell did I read this thread... lol mine is slight but I have some and I didn't notice it before because the only time I'm in landscape is in navigation most of the time.

SAMOLED Burn in !

Hello XDA users !!!
Just noticed a thin long black line (vaguely seen) running from top to bottom of my screen on total black background i.e Grey (as it turns off all pixels and making the image more brighter on a black background but it's grey & can be noticed on a terminal with green on black option) and similar spots on my SAMOLED screen but there's no problem with the pixels all of em are 100% healthy. The images are clear, vibrant & bright but still this flaw/disadvantage is bugging me..!
And we all know that SAMOLED and SAMOLED Plus displays from samsung are extraordinary & superior over the AMOLED's, LCD's , HTC's RGB 720P AMOLED(Rezound as explained in Engadget's review) as Super AMOLED advantages are brighter screens, less sunlight reflection and reduced power consumption (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_AMOLED) but after this experience and some googling i had just discovered that sooner or later maybe all the SAMOLED or any type of AMOLED display users are goin to face this issue/burn-in and even the display will change like this .
but that's an intermediate stage of burn in .
Hope this info was helpful and there is no fix for this unless you get your screen replaced when this chaos x( happens to your phone...
Please report if any one's noticed the same.
Correct me if i was wrong ...!
C'mon no response ..?
I got notification bar burn after the first couple months but to my relief it hasn't got any worse in 18 months... Yay!

Hi, I havent noticed any burn-in´s, but I´ve noticed those lines coming from top to bottom. For me it is the most noticeable on white background. I thought that the framerate is lowering down. Also it can be caused by CM7, will try in couple days to reflash back to SammyRom to see if it happens too.

I doubt that's a burn in unless if you have a background with a line running from top to bottom. Burn in looks like artifacts that appears often on your screen, such as the digits for the clock on the status bar.
i run a BLACK theme, and even so i still got the status bar and its icon burned in on my Nexus S
good thing is, it's not noticeable unless you put a full white or full grey background on the screen
it's very easy to check with screen test

So, all these point out that our SAMOLED's are at a very high risk and even though you had a black theme your Nexus S but still it getting burn in.....

by the way that app can't be tested on ICS .

Does anyone have weird vertical and horizontal lines on the screen?

I just noted (pardon the pun) that there are lines vertical ans horizontal lines when displaying white. This is my second phone. I went back to cpw and changed this one has similar horizontal lines. Its very very very faint, but I can see it. Im not sure why, it is because of the AMOLED screen, how it works?
Very annoyed. what can i do? every phone CPW has cant be faulty?

I've only had mine a day but cant see any lines like you've mentioned... maybe a bad batch they got in? Maybe something to do with the S-pen's digitizer screen, i assume that will have some form of grid to it
AMOLED seems to have weaknesses at low brightness levels.
Some have seen very faint lines .
Also on minimum brightness some reported a faint changing of the hue of the display.
The screen is also very bright (whites) on min brightness.
If you display a greyscale step pattern black is absolute black but
others that should be near black are too bright.
http://www.execulink.com/~impact/docs/utils/StepGray16G.jpg
I think its just the AMOLED tech but check the display thread too.
In normal use the screen is amazing,
all technologies seem to have good and weak points if you look for them.
You are not the only one with this problem. I'm on my third galaxy note now... The first one had dead pixels and the right side was darker than the left side. The second one had much more dark horizontal and vertical lines and smudges. The third one at first had very faint lines and smudges, but it is becoming more visible now. There are several threads about this issue on this forum.. My guess is that these problems are pretty widespread (more or less visible on some gnotes) and that there were some bad batches or that the Amoled technology is the problem. Would love to hear the reason to these issues from Samsung.
No lines on mine. White is white and everything shows up excellent.

If you disable the automatic light control and just snap the backlight up from 0% to anything above, you will not see any grayish things in video on the Note. I don't have this problem, but I've heard that some people have had to do this to solve this issue.
I don't have any bandings or strange lines anywhere on the screen. It looks as good as my Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab. I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary (considering the limitations of the AMOLED screen).
There have been concerns about the lines on the white though. I don't have any of those on mine, but it seems some screens show up this fault. I don't know how to solve this issue and would recommend returning it as soon as possible.
Using the recommended gray test on the Note didn't show up anything but a solid grey screen on mine, although I've heard much people have dark spots all over. It might be something about where the phone was manufactured, or when.
My Note have never had anything wrong with the screen or anything else. The only problem I've ever had is applications that use 16 bit color instead of the Notes 32 bit. This will make color look strange at times, but it's totally normal.
Note that this isn't something wrong with the hardware, it's merely a software problem that will be solved as soon as ICS is released.

Lines/spots are due to ****ty quality control, this is just a matter of luck.

I have yet to see ANYTHING with more then 65k colors, even in the browser.
All i see is some VERY clever dithering very hard to see due to the high resolution.
Coming from the HD2, I'm really disappointed, nothing gained in 3 years (well, more pixels, so harder to see the flaws).
I took 3 picture with a green gradient:
1) 1280width, so basicly 1280 levels of green, but 24bit only shows 255.
2) 255width, so basicly 255 levels of green, 24bit.
3) 64 width, so basicly 64 levels of green, 16bit.
They all look the same to me, in browser and in gallery. I see dither in each of them. This tell me the whole screen is 16/18 bit only.
Maybe the PenTile is playing tricks with me...
Or the grainy screen lets me think its dithered...
i am facing a similar problem..whenever i apply some photo having a lot of black in it as my lock screen image..there seems to be some horizontal gray lines in it..but when i look in the gallery the black is pure black (no horizontal gray lines at all)...is there any problem in the software only ? or is it something regarding the screen?

display banding vertical lines

Hey guys,
This thread is not about the camera taking photos with banding lines, instead about the actual display.
Does anyone have vertical banding lines most notorious when displaying a full grey screen in low brightness.
I've read the verge review and seems to have some banding as well, anyone as well? Thinking about replacing it for a third time.

Yes, I rarely get this issue. I captured a screen shot one day just in case, not sure how well it shows up, but look in the middle lower portion of the screen. Almost like a clock hand pointing at 6 o'clock.

Nevermind, it does not really show up in that pic. Sorry. But yes, I experiencing this issue. Mainly when I am in the settings menu, I think it based on the colors in there. I do not ever see it on my home screen or apps...at least my eye cannot perceive it.

You can't take a screenshot to see the problem. Its a hardware issue therefore you can only use an externeal photo of the screen. Check on grey full color screen. I think I will not replace it, I may risk on another issue..

Yeah, I had not planned on replacing mine either. I so infrequently see it, and even when I do, it really does not impact anything. I was not aware it was a hardware issue, seems there could be a bug fix for problem then.

I've been investigating and the problems seems to be just like the galaxy nexus screen.

Thanks for the link.
Its funny cause the band shows up in the screen shot on my phone, but probably because the conditions are right, not cause its actually in the pic.
Vertical lines are something you should replace your phone for. Horizontal lines like in the screenshot is just the banding of the colors and happens on every single stock android phone because it's apart of the software

Could u check through a full grey background whether ur greyd are fully consistente? I mean there no faint lines whatsoever. Perhaps ur phone is the same as mine and u have not realized it given that it seems to be fairly normal with amoled displays
I was just about to post about this very issue. I created a quick image to show everyone what the issue is. The lines are not as drastic as I made them look, but it should give you the idea of what it looks like on the screen.

No. That is not the issue we are speaking about. The issue we are referring to is VERTICAL and only appears on greyish/black screens, like the settings screen. The horizontal lines are normal for this phone.

Precisely. You can't really use self screenshots to see this problem I'm talking about. Its about the amoled itself having these vertical banding lines(canvas-like strokes). Open Facebook and tap the search button and tap on the search bar without actually writing any name. Tap down the keyboard. For me the deep blue background has the most prominent banding lines for me. I have one week to think whether I should replace it. If everybody actually have these lines and NOT a solid color on full greys or deep blue I won't replace it.
PS. TheVerge moto x review says that it also have some banding lines on grays. I'd be great if you guys could check ur screens like I just explained. Hope I explain it well
Damn amoled!
Someone with the problem should post a sample pic/screen shot so others can download it and attempt to see the problem.
Just download a color test app that makes ur whole screen of a determined color. Put it on grey and check whether ur whole Grey screen doesn't have any vertical line banding. In case it doesn't have any of these lines, please let me know.
If it does have banding, take a screenshot and see it on ur computer monitor and see how the Grey should be displayed(full solid grey without lines)
I don't care enough to install an app, checking out a screen shot is quick and easy.
Took a photo with my tablet. These are the lines im talking about.
Also use the screenshot so u can check whether u have the same problem.
With the screen shot downloaded and displayed on my Moto X I can detect no banding of any kind. I tried it in dim and bright light. Screen brightness is set to auto so it did adjust with ambient light. Maybe I would see it if I manually cranked brightness to max.

Thank you, so my case is a defect, a third replacement will happen I guess. Great phone nevertheless.
It is possible it is something that was fixed going from 4.2.2 to 4.4.x, seems unlikely though. I notice you are on 4.2.2. I am on 4.4.2.
Impossible, my issue is definetively not software related but hardware related. When I see this screen shot on an LCD based device like my PC monitor, no banding is present. After all the pointless investigation this issue is sometimes present on amoled devices like the galaxy nexus.

How to prevent amoled burn in?

Every amoled screen I had was burned after some time. Mostly on the status bar. Once it was WhatsApp.
This time I want to prevent or delay it as long as possible. What recommendations do you have?
Never understood how people managed with burn ins. Well, stop watching a static picture with 100% brightness for 5hrs in a row is a good start.
i have owned more than a dozen samsung products with amoled screens, never had burn in on one of them. I always keep the screen very bright because my eyesight isnt that great. the one lg amoled phone i owned had terrible screen burn
The factors involved are: heat (ext), brightness (curr), uneven degradation rate of each color (rgb), persistent elements, and age (of panel). If half a screen is black and the other is blue, at max brightness, the blue subpixels are under the most stress. Their decay rate will overshadow the resting blue lights - plus that of green and red.
5yrs from now you're going to look at an all white image. Half of it will look awful.
Thanks guys, but not really helping, are you?
Fall asleep once with your phone under your face and you'll have a burn in your amoled screen. Probably many other ways.
This is a common issue that most people don't even notice.
I get how it happens. I'm looking for ways to prevent it.
Setting a screen timeout is helpful
Had every Samsung for years and never had this, so I've no idea.
Maybe some people don't have a screen timeout and fall asleep sometimes dunno

Do i remember wrong, but didint Samsung add pixel shifting at least for their launcher elements which stay at same of screen all the time?

I don't remember that. I know they had it on their Plasma TVs. I thought the Pixel phones with OLED screens also had it but don't know about Samsung phones. I do think that 99.9% of people that use a phone normally will never experience burn-in for the time they own the phone.
Use full immersive mode to hide the status bar and the top and bottom. Turn off auto brightness because if you leave it on and go in sun the brightness get high.
Screen time out to 15 seconds
Leave the brightness slider 50 percent or less
If you use aod make sure to flip the phone so it turns off when not using it
Use youtube in full screen if you use it a lot
These are my tips as I've had my screen changed 4 times due to burn in on my note 8.now using these methods my screen so far has no burn in
For me it's always was the top status bar that would burn in
But now I should never experience burn in ever again now I've actively tried to avoid it
Everyone I know that swears blind they don't have burn and have never had that issue on any device I immediately grab there phone and look closely on a complety grey background and 100 percent of them have status bar burn in at the top at the very least
No way am I turning stuff off to avoid something I've never seen
900 quid to have to suffer immersive mode utter lols, if I have to did that I'll sell it

I also honestly don't know what you're talking about. I've had s3, s5, s7, s9 and now to s10. Never had anything of the sort and since s7 I've been using AOD. Nothing happend. For the love of me I can't imagine how you may have had anything wrong with the display....

Exactly, it's always the status bar. I think there is no immersive mode on s10+ yet, but I removed all the icons.

I'm pretty sure many think they never had a burn in on their precious amoled screen, but they actually had.
Well they probably aren't looking for it that closely

Lol, sorry to see everyone busting you up on this....because you know, it's always more helpful to give someone a bad time to ensure a post count increment, than to be useful and offer up some insight.
Well, I have had screen burn in occur on 3 different galaxy phones. Not from falling asleep, not from being clueless...but from using my phone with games. 2 were mine and 1 on My wife's..hers occurred from youtube.
I used to play clash of clans tons, got burn in from the smaller stats numbers at the top- over time...But replaced the phone no sweat. Verizon insurance took the phone as a defect, noted as screen image ghosting, no charge. I just didn't realize that it was an issue playing, but it was over time. I think it was an s6. The reps in the store were as surprised as I was that it had occurred.
Different device & model, S7 , but same thing occurred, not in the same game either...This time with clash royale- the towers and little cloud icon burned in from too much playing and too often, apparently. I thought I had been a bit more careful, but i think it was the frequency in which I was playing versus overall time.
This time I simply contacted support in the chat about the ghosting, they replaced it again as a defect, no charge.
My wife's occurred on the s7, hers was the top bar because of YouTube, too much & too often. So, did the same for my wife's phone through Verizon insurance, they replaced as a screen ghosting defect.
After I noted what was going on, she made adjustments, didn't happen again to either of us.
Both of us are on the 10s now and very aware this can occur. So, you just need to make sure you're not on those static images or bars or icons for either long periods or frequent shorter periods...it takes time, but it happens, despite popular misconception.
It is only really noticable on a white background, like when looking at mostly blank new tab in chrome.
On the last device, the S7, I made sure to cut the amount of time spent on static images, especially the games. I still kept the brightness always max during the day, nights it was at the lowest setting.
And yes, I kept my settings the same after the replacement, just made adjustments to my gaming approach. I didn't want to baby the phone screen settings, shouldn't have to. No issues on that one after adjusting my approach.
So, it's certainly possible to avoid and I bet there's many out there that use certain apps for long periods and frequently just do not really notice it may have occurred, even if slightly.. and I'm taking heavy users.
A note app with a clean page or white blank background reveals it, most of the time you're not using that, so ignorance is bliss...and makes It's easier for folks to bust on someone else for asking about screen burn in because they themselves are simply clueless it even remotely occured with them.
Heavy user naysayers, check your old phones, just for the heck of it... and then keep the findings to yourself because no one actually cares about you being right or wrong.
Anyway, it was an inconvenient lesson at the time, for me but good to know and learn from. Didn't cost me much but time, as it just took up time set up the phones again.
I know Samsung isn't too concerned about it or they wouldn't have preinstalled games on the phone (ie. solataire).
Just do your best to adjust your screen settings, like those that mentioned, if you're into that. Or simply adjust your apps/usage habits.
Don't overlook the Digital Wellbeing settings on the S10...that may also help you target certain apps with a timer also. Might be something useful for you.
Hope that helps some.

Thank you for your insight. I wouldn't be able to return it if it happens.
I'm also worry the AOD can cause burn in. I never used it before because I had a notification led...
I know it moves around, but is that enough? I also turn it off 8hs a day.

You can set the schedule for the time for the AOD is active and either use the AOD auto brightness option or set the brightness lower, if that helps you feel more confident with it. The movement should help avoid issues.
FWIW, I used AOD with my previous phone without any issue and I anticipate the same with this one.
My burn in issue was only with the games & YouTube as noted.

This is my main issue with AMOLED screens. They look nice but they wear out. The nature of Android means they will wear out unevenly which is why people see burn in. The wearing out of your screen is cumulative. Meaning that it isn't like an old CRT TV where it would take weeks of a static image to burn in but just showing the same image over time day in and day out. The only way to prevent it is to use the entire screen with moving images, like full screen movies, so that the panel wears evenly.
The status bar and navigation bar tend to be on the screen all the time those images will burn in first. Dark mode can also cause issues because if the area is dark it isn't being used and if it isn't being used it will look brighter than other areas that were used more frequently. The s10 has a full screen mode option for some apps. Some apps like Netflix will show the full screen movie even around the camera cutout and that is ideal. Youtube will also allow you to zoom in and show the video around the camera. cutout Chrome and the Samsung browser keep the status bar but it will change colors based on the site and if the bar is white it will invert the status icons which will help keep the panel wearing evenly. I have the dolphin browser which runs in full screen but the top portion of the panel is not used so that is less than ideal.
Auto brightness can be used but in the bright sun that panel is wearing much faster. The screen time out should be set to 15 seconds. These panels are designed to look great but not be super durable and in many cases that's what Samsung wants. They benefit when you have to buy a new device. It's sad to say but its business.
