Gboard is not learning any words - Huawei P20 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I was, and am very enthusiastic about my P20 Pro.
But sadly i got a major issue with Gboard. It's not learning any words, it's not synching dictionaries and it generally seems to stay in default mode/settings.
Googling the problem didn't show any useful results
Any idea's what i could do?
Removing Gboard, App data, factory reset sadl'y didn't help

i found the same issue... went back to my beloved SwiftKey

Mine just work fine. Maybe the last Gboard update broke something.

Crazy voice to text problem

This crazy problem started last week with my Galaxy S running Serendipity ROM.
Now, when I want to compose a text or email with voice, it isn't using english. I thought it was Spanish at first (no I can't speak Spanish). But sometimes it's typing different words or even numbers for the same words I speak.
I say "this is a test", and I get, "nosotras". As I'm typing this, it is now typing the same thing for the same words. It wasn't doing that yesterday. three times I got three different responses.
I have made sure that English is selected in settings. the only thing I can think of that has changed in the last couple of weeks (months even) is I re-installed Google voice app. The problem started a day or two after that, the best i can recall. I've been running this ROM since I first got the phone two years ago. I don't install new software very often.
So, what's going on with my phone? Some crazy virus? Has the phone become self aware and decided to toy with me? Voice text is one of my most favorite features, i really want it to work again.
Try clearing the data in the 3 voice programs and maybe Google voice too.
Which program are you using for your speech-to-text conversion? I'm using Google Voice myself, but I don't see any built-in conversion software. Is it tied to the keyboard program you're using?
If you can't get anything else to work, you can try the newest Swype beta; it has Dragon conversion software built in, and in my experience, it works pretty well.
I'm not sure what program it is. It came with the Serendipity ROM. I'll have to dig around and find out.
How/where would i clean my programs?

Go to settings - applications - manage applications, then find the individual applications. Click the app, and then the "clear data" button. That will reset the offending app's data.
Thank you very much. clearing the data worked. I hope it stays fixed. I think the one that fixed it was clearing the swype keyboard. I never liked the swype KB, I should just remove it if it's going to cause trouble.
Thanks again.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow Apps Blocking MMS

I should probably post this somewhere else because I know it's an issue for more than the Nexus 6, but ever since I updated to 6.0 a few weeks ago I keep having issues sending and receiving MMS. It probably took me a week or more to notice the first time, but after a lot of pulling my hair out for almost a week I figure out it was Ad Away. I uninstalled and all was well. I know I could have messed with the ports in the APN profiles but I didn't want to be bothered.
Last week ES File Explorer updated with their terrible update and aside from the annoying new features, once again MMS stopped working. This was a little easier to pinpoint and once I uninstalled my MMS started working again.
Today I'm having trouble with MMS again. I started searching on the topic again, this time focused on Marshmallow and found a lot of people pointing fingers at Pushbullet. Also found people saying that Chrome was not set as the default browser and that assigning it fixed the problem for them. Luckily that was the case for me and I still have pushbullet (phew).
However, I feel like I'm just scratching the surface on this issue. What's up with Marshmallow that apps keep breaking MMS so easily? Is the Chrome default setting the underlying culprit here? I didn't check it the first two times but I'm wondering if I can reinstall other apps now haha. Obviously it'll be the first thing I check the next time this happens -_- but I'd like to understand what's happening better.
So do any of you smarter-than-me people understand this?
Update: I wasn't imagining things haha.

No0 the chrome issue is not really a big deal. I dont have it set as mine and mms works fine. The pushbullet thing is a known issue. Are you using a 3rd party sms app?
I was having the same issue, nothing exoctic installed, using stock messenger. I played with the apn settings to no avail. I ended up installing chomper and haven't had a problem since

Are you using the stock message app? not that you should have to put a different messaging app on your phone to fix the issue, but purely from a troubleshooting perspective have you tried that? Personally I didn't care for the stock app so when the Stagefright terror came about I switched to Textra and have been there ever since. It really is an awesome MMS app, maybe give that a go and see what happens, and once you use Textra, I doubt you will want the stock app.

Was just curious if something was clearing Chrome and causing this to happen, and if maybe I had known about this and tried it the last two times I wouldn't have had to uninstall anything.

Using the stock Google Messenger app. I tried using Hangouts as the default SMS app but it happened there too. I hate SMS/MMS so I really want to avoid downloading any additional apps haha. I usually try to force people into using an instant messenger but you know how people can be. It's just annoying because I usually don't even get a notification that I'm missing messages. I just open conversation and it says "tap to download" or "downloading..."
I'm working fine now so maybe the next time it breaks and Chrome as the default browser isn't the fix it I will explore some third party apps, it just seems like this is a "thing" with Marshmallow.

I had the same issue. Got my nexus 6, before even setting it up, I rooted and installed marshmallow pure nexus. I'm on T-Mobile. I had 3 apn's under settings. The fast-tmobile had mmsc blank. The 3rd apn had T-Mobile mmsc filled. I copied that, pasted it into the fast-tmobile apn, clicked save, then deleted the other 2 apn's. I use hangouts, and since doing that, I've had zero issues at all. If I change roms, its the first thing I do. I'm more inclined to believe it's in your apn. Many people have had the same issue. I went back to 5.1.1 and took the ota. Mms was broken and I had to apply the same fix. Still on the stock ota, and all has been well. Good luck

A.I. type keyboard issue

Has someone experienced this? I installed this keyboard from day one, on 22th Nov 2017, but 3 days ago, noticed that whenever the keyboard poped up for typing, the buttons on nav bar disappeared, that is, the nav bar was still there, registering touches in the 3 buttons, but no buttons visible, I reverted to stock keybd, But to no avail, unistalled a.i. type keybd, but no luck, ended factory resetting, and then, all fine, re installed the a.i. type keybd, and again the issue presented, so, I corroborated that this kbd is the culprit, anyone else has experienced this? I am very sorry as I use this kbd since my S3!!

I've been using A.I keyboard for ages too. Love it and best keyboard hands down. My gf note 8 on A.I keyboard app was acting dumb like yours the other day. I put version before last update and no issues. I sent developer email and log. You should do the same.
I myself having no issues like yours or gf. Question for you. Dolphin browser with adblock crashing on you? Think it's all note 8s just curious.
I dont use dolphin, so, I cant say, I use the samsung browser with ad clear, no issues so far, where did you get the older version of ai tupe kbd?

Note 8 is absolutely illiterate with keyboard autocorrect

I am having so many issues with my phone after the upgrade to Oreo.
GPS
GMaps
Autocorrect
No VoLTE
Poor wifi that will not switch to a stronger network
Etc
Etc
The autocorrect is simply abysmal. And no matter what anyone may give explanations for the phone behaving as illiterate as it does, there is, sorry, No excuse for it.
An iPhone 5 which is God knows how old, is almost flawless whilst typing.
This thing needs more backspace corrections than is imaginable. Why?
All the keyboards are just frustrating. Maybe SwiftKey is a little better than the rest. But still.
Let's not go into cache clearing, factory wipes, delete app data, all excuses for something that just doesn't work very well.
And paying the colossal amount for a phone that one has to make this many compromises is not acceptable.
Just not very happy with the Note 8.
Example. I typed this on the phone
Frustrating = fruatrating
Typed = tiypes
Compromises = cimpromisas (??)
Imaginable = imigatble (WT..!)
I use Gboard from Google for a keyboard, and have very fast pace of accurate swiping for text

I actually prefer Gboard to SwiftKey. But the word predictions and spellings were unacceptably wrong most of the time.
I don't use swiping or shortcuts or abbreviations whilst typing.
The etc etc part makes me think that you are totally dissatisfied with the phone, so yeah, you're really better off buying an other brand phone. This whining here will get you nowhere.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks man.
Your advice is much appreciated.

Agreed...
I've tried going back and forth to the Samsung keyboard. I found it was really good on the note 7 but on this phone it's rubbish..
I agree on the Google maps issue too, if I'm using it for sat nav, I might as well not.. it doesn't seem to locate me accurately.
For what it is, the phone shouldn't have these minor, but annoying issues.
Best keyboard imo is Fleksy, it has insane autocorrect and if the corrected word isn't the one you were looking for with a simple swipe you will get the right one 99% of the time unless you typed something completely wrong. I really love it, I've tried all of them but only with fleksy I can type correctly even by missing every single letter on a word

I've tried several, but the main three I've used are Gboard (absolutely terrible, but fast), Samsung's stock keyboard ( far better than Gboard, but still lacking in the autocorrect), and Swiftkey (absolutely the best autocorrect, but within the past few years became so bad it would freeze constantly. I wish Samsung or Google would buy Swiftkey and use their own keyboard with Swiftkey's autocorrect.

I can't help you with your other issues as I don't have any of those on my note, I've never used samsung keyboard since I always change my dpi and set it so small that keyboard is unusable. But I would advise you to try Fleksy, I find it it's really good but it does have a learning curve but I honestly type super fast with it. Or also Minuum if I'm not wrong has a really good auto correct with the english language. Not so good with italian, but I still feel Fleksy is far superior because of the swipe to change auto corrected word. Still, the learning curve can be tough for some, all my friends who tried it didn't like it because you kinda have to stick with it for a couple of days in order to really get used to the "gestures". But if you really hate the others try it

Totally Agree!
GBoard is the best, but the autocorrect is simply shocking!
Swiftkey is slow. Can it be speeded up? The key delay, I mean?
How can you sync words with gboard? My gboard unable to sync learned words, lost all of the words after every factory reset and know nothing like John Snow.
I like gboard but I 'am so annoyed because of that.
Backup all the data that is stored on your device. Then perform a hard factory reset but wipe the cache partition first in the Recovery Mode menu.

I was going to say I agree about the autocorrect, but I did some digging and discovered you have numerous options for improving it. Mine had been set to samsung multi-language autocorrect although I was using Gboard! I changed it to English only and autocorrect by Google and - OMG it actually works flawlessly now!

MIUI 9.6.3.0 global stable - Themes / Design always gets reverted back to default

Hi there,
unfortunately this always happens sooner or later after I change the theme (design). Unfortunately I could not yet find a working solution, even after hours of trying and reading dozens of web articles/threads (also rebooting after design change does not work).
I already got it solved once (several months back) - but I do not remember where I've found the working solution. Now I had to delete some app data which contained also phone settings (no factory reset) and wiped DALVIK and cache since phone got stuck completely (even removing battery did not work). This set back MIUI to default theme.
Default theme really looks ugly and wastes a lot of space. I'd like to use CEEC theme also since it has a nice weather widget.
(Global Stable V9.6.3.0 ROM meanwhile seems to suffer from other problems: Weather does not update automatically anymore, several google apps cannot be updated any longer [showing error -504] and when rebooting/booting it takes ages now while it gets hot and drains battery massivly during bootup - any ideas on those topics?)!
Thank you in advance for your help!
Bye

Thanks. This thread solved the non-updating Google apps quite nicely. But unfortunately reverting theme still happens. Could not find any solution yet.
Hints and tips are welcome.
The same problem with theme
