Should i stay with LOS or go back to OOS - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

I have been using LOS 15 for some time now .I moved to LOS because of it's long term support(not into changing roms because of reinstalling and configs) after OOS announcement to end oneplus 3t major update support...
In term of speed and usage OOS was way smooth than LOS but i decided to get used to LOS because of update...
Now i'm experiencing lags in LOS...not frequently but it's been there for a month i think and it's annoying.like today keyboard was not appearing and it's was to slow to go back or change or do any thing..
so i decided to do something about it.
1) change kernal
2) go back to OOS(as it will update to pie now)
which one would you recommend?? if kernal then which one?

I've not used LOS the fact that you couldn't select vibrate only on the alert slider put me off (not sure if that is an option now though).
I had been using the MIUI ROM for quite a while but went back to OOS. You'll get android 9 so should be fine for at least another year. Also OOS has regular security updates.
For me OOS is an amazing ROM, no slow downs or issues and l always end up coming back to it after trying custom ROMs.

Ok then will go back to OOS then... I'm not security obsessed but new features and improvments

The lag issue has been fixed in LOS. You could have flashed a custom Kernel and it would have been better too, and of course there are other ROMs. It's not a binary choice! OOS is fine if you're not particularly fussy and don't want to have control over every little thing. You'll lose out on things like granular Display Calibration and full Notification LED control though.

Yes haven't experienced any lag from the day of post ?. About kernal, i was looking for suggestions.can you recommend one? And about rom, i mentioned in the post, that i didn't want to try or keep changing the rom because of reinstallation and configuration. Fine with not having control over everything.

If you're happy with LOS there's not much else needed. Caesium kernel would be a good addition so that you pass Safetynet, which you don't on stock LOS kernel. This would allow you to use banking apps/Google Pay etc.

If you play PUBG, don't flash Caesium.
I tried it about a week back and had so much random freezes and lags while playing it. Didn't happen with the stock LOS kernel.

Is it worth installing CM now?

So I just got my O+3T about an hour ago and I love it, fastest phone I've ever owned by a mile.
I sold my brand new S7 Edge to buy this mainly because it was more developer friendly and I really love cm.
I realise there will be no more updates in terms of cm roms but what are the implications of installing cm now? Is it just security updates?
Is anyone else running cm now and keeping it regardless or is it a better idea to stick with/return to stock?

Sure, but I have no intentions of using MM ROM in 2017 lol.
I'll use CM13 as long as all my apps continue to run and my xposed modules all work and my battery lasts 2-3 days with 10 hours of screen on time. XdaSultan and his ROM run perfect on my phone.
Cm14.1 is fine. The RR versions are even better. I would recommend the official RR build more then anything. Been running it for a while and not a single issue

What's the official RR builds?
I wouldn't trust these unofficial builds of CM (Lineage), both from sultan and koenkk. Most of the developers have no idea how to make safe roms + fact that they all turned off forceencrypt is just repulsive. I strongly recommend you to wait for official builds.

No the CM theme engine isn't out for nougat yet.
Yes it does. But you need Franco Kernal as well because it Bypasses the verified boot flag for Android Pay compatibility.

What I have noticed is that many custom roms have poorly configured SELinux, many unfixed CVEs in kernel, disabled forceencrypt (encryption disabled by default, user must go to settings and manually turn it on, what most of the users don't do), distribution through unsecure channels and many more mistakes. Stock roms are mostly fine because google force OEMs to apply certain configurations to their roms. But unofficial developers have free hand, so they do whatever they want and results are sometimes atrocious. Official CM was pretty good, there were certain requirements that ROMs must have met and I really liked the way CM was compiled and distributed. Imho, if you are serious about security, you should wait for the official Lineage OS (if there will ever be the official Lineage OS).

That's a very valid point but security isn't a massive concern for me considering i set selinux to permissive for v4a anyway. I suppose even having root is classed as a security flaw in the first place.
Sultanxda always has the best optimized roms in terms of stability, photos and battery.

This phone is gorgeous, fast and dare I say near perfect. Finding the perfect set up over the next few days will be interesting. no theme engine but it has a dark mode which is nice and you can change the accent colours.
OxygenOS with systemless root, systemless xposed makes it perfect. I'm just waiting for the official nougat update. I also have ARISE and DOLBY ATMOS as well.

Android pay will work with system less root and magisk
It doesn't work with system less xposed. Just tested it although you can disable xposed and reboot then use Android pay but that's just hassle.
Selinux status I'm not 100% sure but I much prefer having xposed then Android pay. But that's me.

Resurrection Remix 6.0.0 unofficial Oreo 8.1.0 Rom discussion

Hello there i'm using RR 6 unofficial by Arasthel https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=249040
Is FaceUnlock working for you? i got errors in logcat and it's not working for me.
here my setup :
twrp-3.2.1-0-chiron_raupe-20180218-1202_LOS.img
oreo_firmware_no_device_check.zip
RR-O-v6.0.0-20180222-chiron-Unofficial.zip
open_gapps-arm64-8.1-aroma-20180221-UNOFFICIAL.zip
edit after 2 weeks, rom is great and battery life is good, not issues at all except faceunlock not working and my usb headphones not working for calls but working for everything else.
Same issue for me. I tried faceunlock magisk module because it works fine with RR 6.0 on my s7 edge

Revolution OS vs Xiaomi.eu - which one would you recommend?

I've heard good/bad things about both of them. I've used xiaomi.eu on my former RN5pro and was very happy however if the experience is better with revolution OS I would give it a try (regarding battery/performance/bugs etc.)
Thanks guys! Have a great day :highfive:
I am also interested in this topic. I used Xiaomi.eu on my MI MIX3 and now I have to switch to MI9 and I am not sure, whether to use Xiaomi.eu or Revolution OS.
I did not test Xiaomi.EU, but from what I read RevOS is the same with more debloat and better battery life. The negative aspect is you get less frequent updates than with Xiaomi.EU, so it could be that with Xiaomi.EU you get new features and bug fixes more quickly, but then again there are only very few little bugs on RevOS so I think it's not much of a problem tbh.
I'm currently on RevolutionOS with Magisk and PocoLauncher and I'm really happy with it, but of course when the first stable AOSP based Roms with working camera will come out, I'll switch to that very quick haha

Great! Honestly I've never updated my phone anyway (since I've debloatet/modded it completely and didn't want to do the hustle again). If it offers the same/more features like xiaomi.eu + no frequent updates (since never thouch a running system) I think I'm giving it a go (after the 15 days wait period
Thanks again for your great reply! :victory::good:
In my opinion RevolutionOS battery life is better than EU . Idle time last night using RevolutionOS was about 3% in 8 hours while with EU rom was 10-13%.
RevOs for sure. I have tried Flokorom (GSI), Xiaomi.eu, and RevOs and I keep coming back to Rev. I get the best battery life by far with it, especially stand by time.

Actually, yes. I forgot to mention these results are with the XASP Patch. I am not sure how much that patch contributes to battery, but the combination of RevOs and the XASP are the best things to flash on the Mi 9 right now. I used GSI roms and will I like the minimal OS it just felt a big buggy and not able to fully utilize the hardware yet. Don't use any extra mods/apps like L speed mod or Greenify, I havent found them to be useful (on MIUI at least) and can got better battery without.

I use xiaomi.eu because it updates more often(weekly). I always remove any additional app I don't use from system when those are not impact to my daily use.
Haven't tried ros of mi9, but was using ros in the past. Don't feel that different to eu

Battery life on ROS wasn't much better on other Xiaomi phones in my experience. But on my Mi 9 I had far better standby time on ROS compared to Xiaomi.eu and Global EEA.
Now on another thread I just saw this rom called "mi-globe" : https://mi-globe.com/rom-builder/
You can basically pre-customize things like if magisk is preinstalled etc before downloading the rom. How is that one compared to RevOS and Xiaomi.eu ?
But from what I saw it's not much different, and I still think battery life will be better on RevOS.
One more question (since so many of them exist already): which type of TWRP did you use for flashing Revolution OS? Thanks!

I think the fiirst time I flashed it, it was with an old version of randomblame's one. But now I saw in the thread that there are problems flashing with the new one.
On the chinese TWRP it doesn't work for me.
Second time I flashed it with an older version of mauronofrio's TWRP (3.3.1-4 because there was a bug with the new version too), but now the bug is fixed on his version and siankatabg's version.
So I recommend you to use the latest versions of either mauronofrio or siankatabg's twrp, since they both support decryption now too. :good:
On the latest update of revolution os, I noticed my battery and network speed icon is white and can't be seen properly as compared to time and network bar which is showing with black color. How do I solve this?
Dead topic?
Any noticed issue with fingerprint unlock?

[KERNEL] [Android 12] [v12.9] MVK - Maximum Velocity Kernel

For those familiar with Velocity Rom this is the kernel I build for it. Velocity hasnt been on XDA as a rule so Im sure not many are familiar. Velocity is my personal Rom Ive been building for years and have shared with all that are interested. This isnt and will never be an "official development project" but will always exist as long as I continue to develop Android roms.
Velocity is focused on speed, stability, and efficiency and not on adding every imaginable feature. As this is my personal Rom it will have everything I deem useful to me and/or that doesnt compromise the goals of the project.
I dont add every conceivable governor, I/O scheduler, or other user tweakable options. In fact, I typically remove all the options and keep the best. This is designed as a plug and play kernel, not something to be changed. Its also not designed for other Roms.
Please do not ask for features, ETA's, or related. Again, this is my personal kernel for my personal Rom and will be shared accordingly. That said, I do encourage healthy, friendly dialog in my threads.
Flashing instructions
1) Reboot to bootloader
2) Fastboot boot 'bootimage_name'.img to make sure it boots with no issues
3) Reboot to bootloader again
4) Fastboot flash boot 'bootimage_name'.img
5) Buckle up for safety - optional of course

Thanks for this!
It's great to see another person building for our device. Not that the others aren't doing great work, but the more the merrier.
Once Q source drops, the real fun will begin. I can see potential for crazy speed and battery life over 10 hrs SOT on Q. Im coming from Shamu (Nexus 6) so this is quite a change in use and development. I think Im getting a good handle on what makes it tick though.

Not surprising. This is why I stated it works on stock but no idea on custom ROMs. I can cook a boot image if you want to try that, but that would also be based on stock.
Boot image is up in the same folder if you want to try that, but this really is designed to run on either my Rom or stock. Once velocity is out I won't be building stand alone kernels.

Well, thank you for your continued work.
v10.2 up
I had an issue with touchscreen not working when waking up from sleep on 10.2. I use the fingerprint and if i unlock the phone from sleep (always on display showing) touch wont work but if i wake it, switch off the screen with the button and unlock again quickly then it's ok. Reverted to 10.1

Most stable Mi A2 rom?

which is the best and most stable rom for MI A2. By stable i mean for day to day use and obviously bug free rom.
Thanks in advance

Sorry, but you'll have to test them by yourself and pick one that works for you... what suits me probably won't suit you. The features that I use the most probably are not as important to you, and probably the things that are important to you I don't use as much in order to say they are stable. The apps I use probably are not the same as you, the signal strength, the carrier, the charger, the bluetooth devices, the root method, magisk modules or even if you are not going to root.
I'm enjoying the PE+ rom, but I did many tweaks to it and it works for me, but there are many people facing really annoying bugs that makes it a no go. So there isn't an easy answer for what you are looking for.

wow what kind of useless responses are those? He didnt say what is the best one, he asked what is the most stable dudes.
Hi! I tried most of them, PE+, HavocOS, AICP, LINEAGE, in my case the most stable and daily driver is Havoc OS, there is one problem on all of them for me, my banking app wont run on modded rom's so i reverted to miui, android one.
There is trial and error, some might work from start, some are harder to make them run ok, without any crashes. The fastest one i found was Pixel Experience+, the most stable one, Lineage OS(be carefull, it doesnt support google apps from the box), and the one which does any task well, good battery and stability in my case, was Havoc OS. With pleasure, ViVa.

Lol, no.
Stock has serious bootloop issues between updates.
If you're staying on stock you should still unlock bootloader, just in case. And backup important data before updates.
This saved me 4 or 5 times already.

Which Android version? I am on 10 and never had a boot loop after update but I always do it manually using fastboot.
I've also stripped Stock down to the bare-bones - no Google anything, except Play Services, Phone and Contacts and everything seems to work OK with no crashes ever.
I concur with your bootloader unlock advice.

Hi all,
I bought my A2 yesterday. This is my first time thinking of using stock rom instead flashing i.e. Lineage. Can you describe the steps to stripe down stock?
Thanks!

Root using Magisk, then use something like link2SD to get rid of the bloat. I always freeze the unwanted Apps instead of deleting them.
