Problem when someone calls me.... - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

When someone calls me the caller ID screen pops up but then immediately it goes back to the lock screen. It stays there for a second then the caller ID screen pops back up. I can't find anything or any setting that would be causing this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you have an app that controls the number calling you? I think it's an app causing it.

No app like that does that that I know of. They odd thing is I just realized that it is only happening when certain people call me like my husband. I am thinking it is something in his contact info. I am going to try deleting his contact and recreating it from scratch.

[Q] Screen turning on for notifications?

Hi all I was wondering if anyone has found a way or an app/tweak so that notifications don't turn the screen on on the device when receiving notifications such as text messages? I find this highly annoying coming from android devices like the Nexus One and Motorola Milestone. I have found nowhere for this option. I use Handcent as my default sms app and i have the Bell i9000 if that helps. Thanks!

Ok I downloaded tasker but looks very complex. Any idea or heads up for how I can go about the screen not turning on when handcent message comes in?

Thats weird... me its on sms and its highly annoying because I have unlock. Even with the options in Handcent to not turn on the screen it turns on. Tried the default sms app and same thing. Maybe is ADW Launcher? I'll try with the Samsung launcher to see...
ok so it does same thing with Samsung launcher as well. This is annoying! Does everyone else's screen turn on when they receive SMS? I tried noLED as well but screen turns on before it goes to the noLED screen.
Yes, but that's a good thing for me - otherwise I wouldn't know I had a notification if the phone is on my desk?

Yeah that's definitely true. I guess I will stop using the application called Unlock. This app was cool because it gets rid of the lock screen but its annoying to have your screen turn on while its in your pocket and there is no lock. I guess it's something I will have to live with.

Voicemail

Vm irritates me, I don't have mine set up on purpose. My mom drones on and on and on and... Have you tried an app killer to remove it? You don't have a VM hiding somewhere in there? Can you call customer service, would they be able to tell you if you have a vm hiding in there. My VM icon stays on on my USC work phone. I ignore it. I am sure that is a good fix until I actually get one about the shop being broken into, or on fire.
I would imagine, that customer service should be able to "reset" the system for you, it may just be a glitch.
If you have tried all these ideas, then I have no clue. Maybe Mtmichaelson can make it invisible. It'll still be there, but at least it wouldn't bug you, wouldn't want your story to end up like Poe's "The Telltale Heart"
Visual voicemail or standard (is there a diff?) On my d2 and my dad's dx, if you didn't exit with the star key it would stay on no matter what... could have just been a MOTO thing, worth a shot (unless you already do that... )

Call Verizon tell them to delete and re add the feature on the account. It should reset everything and clear and voicemails
Honestly I haven't tried anything I was just wondering if I was the only one that this has happened to.

I think you're the only one. I might try going into settings, applications, manage applications, find the voicemail app and clear data ...maybe do a force stop.
Hey Beamer did you figure out the issue?

Ive had the same problem before. I deleted all my VM and the icon would never disappear. Its an annoyance more than anything.
No I haven't figured it out but I don't want to just have it hidden because of work and I actually get voicemails all the time one other thing with that is it always shows 1 new message even if there are more than one

App permission monitor stating the obvious on SMS?

Has anyone seen this App permission monitor pop up while doing something completely normal and keep letting you know every time you use it? For me, I'm using Google Messages as my default SMS app, and this thing pops up telling me "1 apps have been detected using 1 permissions" and lists Messages | SMS.
OBVIOUSLY.
What's even stranger is that I went to app permissions and it says that Messages is authorized for SMS, just like I okay'd it when Messages was set as the default SMS app. What gives? I think this might come in handy when an app goes rogue, using permissions without me saying it was okay to do so, but in this case, it's like saying "water is wet." When you click on the notification, it says that Messages has been using permissions in the background.... What?
Any thoughts on how to okay this with App permission monitor so I can text without this warning all the time (and no, I'm not about to hide notifications of it since it could be helpful in the future).
Go into Settings > Lock Screen and Security > App Permissions Monitor and turn it off.

Not helpful. Please read what I wrote again. I think the app could possibly be useful, but it just needs to be corrected.
You can actually go in and tell it to not report permission uses for specific apps instead of turning it off completely. Instead of clicking the rifle just click on the words so permission monitor and it'll give the full list of apps and you can shut off reporting for apps you trust.

THANK YOU. This is what I was looking for. I didn't know what you were referring to at first, I was just getting the notification because I didn't see it in Settings (there is so much stuff in there now, you just about have to use the search feature for everything these days!), but now that I found it, I clicked on the words, not the toggle switch, and set Messages to NOT monitor. Perfect, thank you.
I am kind of confused. What did you search to make it go away? This is getting so annoying because it is always telling me textra is using SMS and I am not sure what to do to make it stop. Like you I would still like to keep the monitor on I just wish it would stop telling me what I already know.
Detailed Process

I was a little confused as well so this is what I did to correct it.
SETTINGS >> LOCK SCREEN AND SECURITY >> APP PERMISSION MONITOR
From there you should go down to the android Messages app and toggle it to off. That will disable giving the warning every time you send a message.
Hope that helps.

You do know they legit just told you how to do it.... you dont have to be mean about it. and then stating "THIS" is what im looking for. Like they told you how to get there, you click the name. if you went onto there to just hit the toggle without looking/investigating around, ie. pressing the section instead, then you arent probably getting the most out of your phones.
I suggest playing around in your settings and everything to get the most out of your phone.
I legit just made this account to tell you this because the person helped you and you seemed to speak rude to them.

This is happening on my note 8 as well. Have you been able to fix this? I'm a little worried it could be something malicious using back-end processes, like they programmed the exploit to send SMS messages without involving surface flinger...

I am assuming you are using a 3rd party messaging app from the play store?
I am still getting the notifications even though for instance Contacts is allowed to be used by Android Messages, I get the notification everytime I send or receive a text.
I tried turning the monitor off completely, still getting notifications.
All since I upgraded to a new Samsung patch last night on my S8+.
In fact I got the notification just now after I toggled the setting to off...I checked and the toggle is back on.

Can Not Thank You Enough! I could not figure out how to get that to stop to save me and my OCD couldn't take anymore of those notifications as it was always about my chosen text app. Turning off all didn't work why I didn't think to try just the one is beyond me. So thanks again and this is why I love this Forum!

Secret Background Call???

Hi guys. (My english isn't the best)
I have a very important question. Sometimes if i watch a YouTube Video in the YouTube App and want to clear my latest app history, an anonymus call from the dialer pops up with a red button to end the call (like a normal phone call). But there is no number on the screen. There is nothing. After a few Seconds, this screen closes automaticly. In the recent tab is no dialer app or anything else. Not even in the dialer history is an information about this secret call.
I'm not alone with this problem. Here is another Thread with the same problem: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/background-call-t3629232/page1
If anyone knows something about this, please let me know.

Sounds like a bug or malicious software. You should backup your phone then do method 2 here https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/guide-mega-unbrick-guide-hard-bricked-t3405700. Don't restore data yet and test, just update to latest. If the error persists it is a bug, if it doesn't it was probably malware.
Try to get a screenshot of it. Can't help if we don't know what it is.
But yeah it's probably malware.

Dismiss incoming calls without rejecting call

Hi, I'm running stock Android 10 on my Note 9. One of the most annoying "features" is that incoming calls take up the whole screen with no possible means of dismissing, or switching to another app while its ringing. Often I don't want to send it to VM so I don't want to reject nor answer the call. I silence the ringer, I want to let it ring but I don't want to stare at the screen for the entire time its ringing. I have the show in pop up window enabled, but that only works if I have another app open. If a call just comes in when I don't have another app open, it obnoxiously takes over the phone with no options to do anything other than pressing either the red or green call buttons. Is there a way to change this behavior or can I install another dialer app and make it my default? I'm seriously amazed this is how it was designed to work!
If you're not in another app, why does it bother you?
If you mean when the phone is idle with screen off and a call comes in then I don't see a point in not being fullscreen.
When it is updated to ui 2.1 there might be a setting to change call display while using other apps/mini popup

Whether you see the point or not doesn't really matter, if I'm asking, what I'd like to know is can it be done or not? I don't understand these non informative responses. Why do you bother taking the time to respond only to say you don't see the point why I'm asking?
However, if you must fully understand before giving a more useful answer, I use Google voice and I need to see which calls come from Google voice as a forward versus direct calls to my cell phone number. The only way to differentiate is seeing if hangout is also ringing or not. Occasionally hang out starts up first in which case it works like a charm. But every time the phone app rings first, it locks the screen and I cannot navigate to the Hangouts app or even pull down the notification to see if Hangouts is even ringing.
That's only one reason. The other is if I don't want to send the call to voicemail, and I want to let it ring, I don't necessarily feel like staring at my phone for 30 seconds if I want to do something else on it. I've had many phones and this is the only one that is acting this way. It's dumb.

as I have already stated, I already have that option checked off but it only works as you said while in other apps. I question specifically was for times when I am not in other apps.

Thank you, that was much more helpful! I'm not sure if it's due to the difference of S10 vs Note 9, but the swiping down diagonally from your left to lower right doesn't do anything for me. Anyways, I guess we have exhausted all options and using the edge is probably the best one for me. Thanks again!

Glad it works. If you'd like to try the swipe from corner to make the window small but you can't right now try to install Good Lock and use the module MultiStar. Inside this module there's an option called "Pop-up view action" which enables (or forces or re-enables xd) the functionality to swipe from the top corner diagonally in order to make the currently open app's window smaller.
If Good Lock does not work where you live then use either FineLock or NiceLock from the play store and install the module from here manually: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...amsung-multistar-3-2-28-android-apk-download/
