Since Android Auto 3.0, third party apps have been removed from Android Auto despite having Developer Options and "Unknown Sources" checked.
Some developers have came up with a root workaround to allow these apps to show in the menu.
This workaround is dependent on current AA version to work and has always been implemented by specific apps. Some even had the unlock button in the AAuto interface
This app comes to fix that all.
It will list the currently installed AA third party apps, and will apply the workaround for them.
Instructions:
1. Get AA in developer mode and "Unknown Sources" checked. (details in steps 1-7 in this thread). Start head unit server is not needed in my tests.
2. Open the app, click "Read apps". Check the apps you want to enable in AA.
3. Click "Unlock"
4. Click "Apply".
5. Reboot.
6. Enjoy your apps
The indicator of wheter the Chimera service is enabled or not doesn't still work properly, don't take it as reference. Just click unlock every time you want to apply changes in the list.
The app will be improved whenever I have time.

Wow!!! Great job. Thank you, I will test it right away. Is this still dependent on GPS version?
This looks good, and I think it's exactly what I am looking for.
But I have a slight problem!
I hope this is a relevant place to ask, but please tell me if not.
Suzuki Vitara 2017 (UK) with SLDA 1860
SG8+
Rooted
Google Play Services 12.6.89
(I have disabled automatic/background updates in the hope that I can restrict this from updating as I believe newer versions cause AAMirror to stop working(?))
Android Auto 3.6.583534
AA with AAMirror was working fine, than as is the case with many people, the "AAMirror" Icon/Option disappeared from my car's display.
I looked in various places and tried various things to no avail. First I ended up not being able to connect to my car, then even on my Android, AA stopped working.
It opens, sort of swipes left-right, then just freezes and gives me a notification every 1/4 of a second or so saying "android auto collecting feedback". I can't even get to "About" and change it to developer mode, I just get the big blue arrow.
So today, I reset my phone, reinstalled AAMirror, AA, AAUnlock and now AAuto App Enabler, but AA *still* keeps freezing and giving me this notification.
Hoping someone can help.
Am I right to restrict GPS to 12.6.89?
Is version 3.6.583534 of AA appropriate?
Are these two compatible with each other?
Thanks in advance and let me know if I have missed some detail you need.

Works with latest GPS, but if Google changes the way of blocking apps in a new update, it will stop working.
The difference is that other implementations of this method only worked with a specific version of AAuto, while this app will work with any version of AAuto using this method for blocking. This approach was first implemented by AAMirror and AAUnlock's developer.
Credits for him, even though he obfuscated his code and I had to figure out how it was done by my own methods.

I got problems similar to yours trying to use lastest AAuto with an old GPS, update your GPS.
I have tested my app successfully using last version of AAuto and GPS.

Ok thanks. I was on an custom Magisk 17.2.8 version - reverted back to official 17.1 and it works!

It does the same, but applies to any app you have installed, not just AAMirror. And allows you to check which applications are currently enabled. You can keep AAunlock installed if you wish
Hi,

[Original Post]
"Ok Google" works fine for me when the phone is on/unlocked without any training. However, to have it work even when the screen is off or the phone is locked it requires training your voice. For the life of me I can't get it to accept the training. It wants to record you saying "Ok Google" three times and it will move on to the second and third recordings after a previous recording is successful. I can't get it to move past the first recording. It just listens for a while and then times out. Anyone else have this issue? Any thoughts on how to resolve it?
[Update 1]
Clearing Google Search data made voice training quick and easy, but my option to have it always on has disappeared. See my post below. Thoughts?
[Update 2]
I just rebooted the phone and my "always on" option has returned but it wants me to retrain my voice. Now I can't get past the first recording again...
I don't have that issue. Voice training went off without a hitch. Did you go to a quiet place like the instructions said?

Thanks for the response. Yes, I was in a location with no sound.
Since posting the original post I found this thread where someone suggested clearing Google Search app data. I tried it and voice training was quick and easy. However, I don't seem to have the option for this to work with the screen off anymore. I can only do it when the screen is on, locked or unlocked.
Here is what the options used to look like (not my screenie, I just found this image on the web, probably from an N9 or something):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now here is what my screen looks like:
I no longer have the "always on" option. One step forward, one step backward.
@Marcellus1 I see that no one has offered any help here and I can't either. My N6 has the issue that your first picture shows. I am running Validus 5.0.1 alpha 1.0 Rom. I have read that this is an issue with all AOSP ROMs right now but there isn't very much being discussed about it. If you find a solution, please let me know. If I find one I'll definitely post it here.
The odd thing is that my my N5, N7(2013) and N9 all have this feature working flawlessly, all running Lollipop. My N6 is the only device with issues and I have tried 3 different ROMs as well as several different gapps packages to try to solve it to no avail.
you can try this thread, as thats what fixed my ok google everywhere and with screen off and unplugged http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/ok-google-everywhere-aosp-rom-t2963716
btw, im on rastapop.
I appreciate the replies. It seems that the fix is only a 50-50 chance of working AND it requires a custom ROM. I'm on stock, no root, no custom recovery, no anything special. I'll probably switch to a custom ROM at some point, but for now I don't think I'm ready to make the switch. One post mentioned in that thread referenced this other thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57335716&postcount=295
The suggestion is to clear search and play data in order for the changes to survive a reboot, but that you lose the option for always on while not plugged in. That doesn't seem optimal either. Word is Android 5.1 due out in February or so will address "Ok Google" issues, which hopefully means this issue. Maybe I'll just sit tight until 5.1 rolls out before trying factory resets, custom ROMs or the like.
I had a Pressy inserted into my headphone port. Ok Google worked fine on the homescreen with the Pressy inserted, but it would not work with the voice training with the Pressy installed. If i did the voice training without the Pressy, then put the Pressy in, Google Now still worked ok on the homescreen, but not with screen off.
EDIT: I am rooted on stock ROM.

That's interesting. I've had a pressy in my headphone jack. When I try training my voice with Pressy inserted, the phone just endlessly listens and eventually times out. When I removed it and tried voice training again I immediately got "something went wrong" and "It's a little too noisy in here. Please find a quieter place and try again". (and I'm in a quiet place).
[EDIT]: As a follow-up, I've uninstalled Pressy and the AutomateIt Pressy plugin. I've cleared my search data, and installed the new Google (search) app (http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/01/07/google-app-hits-version-4-1-now-cards-settings-apk-download/), but still no luck training my voice.

Thanks for your suggestion but it did not work. I saw your suggestion previously and put it off because I didn't want to have to root my device. However, after getting the updated google (search) app today and it still not working, I decided to give it a go. Unlocked the device, rooted it, etc, then copied the files mentioned in your solution to the appropriate locations. Rebooted the device and now my "always on" feature is grayed out and disabled--it says this feature is currently unavailable for this language. The language is set to English (US). I cleared the search app data and was able to train the device immediately, but it was just like my post above where the always on is limited to when the screen is on and unlocked or when charging. Rebooting the phone and/or re-installing the updated google (search) app (because I lost it during the rooting process) takes me back to "this feature is currently unavailable for this language".
[EDIT]: I was looking through that thread some more and saw that some were having some success with flashing the zip by hlxanthus that was a little bit different from the original suggestion. I took my root a step further and installed a custom recovery and then flashed hlxanthus's zip. There is no change.
[EDIT 2]: As a follow-up to the previous edit, after flashing hlxanthus's zip, clearing search data no longer makes a change to enable voice training.

This Feature is Broken Again!!!
I've noticed this is broken on Android N. I often clean install custom ROM and then the latest OpenGApps only to find that when I toggle on OK Google "Always On" the toggle instantly turns itself back off the moment I turn it on. There's some work arounds on the forums and I can usually make it work by Installing and old version of the Google App clearing all data for Google App then training voice model and setting OK Google "Always On" toggle to "On". Then after everything is working I go ahead and update Google App from Play Store and usually it keeps working. Sometimes it breaks again. I'm tired of working around this. I wanna know if it will ever again be possible to use this feature. This has been going on for months. Perhaps they should just remove the feature all together then at least it won't be there broken and useless.

After I set the battery usage back form "Mid" to original. I can receive gmail instantly by app Inbox. Probably I setup somewhere to get only 1 notice from Inbox, no duplicate notice from gmail app.
But I can get email instantly, that is important. I believe if you set battery usage to "Mid", it blocks background app to connect to internet, may delay your email notice.

Has the update already been applied? In older system builds, it would ask what you wanted to do and there were three options (first one being "no" or do not apply). I am guessing now you are faced with two options, which are to set a time to update (with a checkbox to automatically apply it without prompting you) or apply now. I have not automatically received the download yet, but whenever it does I will be sure to say no or keep scheduling a time and make sure that box is not checked. Maybe, eventually, it will provide a "no, I will apply it manually later" option but I doubt it. If anyone has other solutions, please chime in.

I didn't apply update yet. But the only option now is to delay it by selecting "later." I've heard that eventually it will install meaning that there are limited amounts of time you can postpone. I found a solution which is to disable these packages.

Have any of you guys that are on Nougat for the G925V seen and tried out the CFautoroot that's on Chainfire's website?? It's for the Verizon model..
Update: Apparently there's something wrong with Chainfire's website since he's moving everything to a better system and it's not filtering out the CFautoroot for the devices that have locked bootloaders so this obviously isn't going to work so don't try!! I already tried on one and it didn't work!

thank you for the suggestion but mine was already set to "off." it started working normally for several days after doing nothing to the phone but now as of this morning it isn't auto syncing again. i haven't changed anything either which is more puzzling to me.
I will look into this right now. I'd love to update my S6edge a bit more.
It might not work this second. But we might still find an eng kernel yet or a good exploit.
The Exynos7420 board has seen way more exploits in the last year than any other devices.

Nice one. How did you disable these, with an app such as Package Disabler Pro or BK Package Disabler?

The app that I used is called package disabler pro. Simply use the search function and it will show you the two packages I've mentioned. If the update automatically downloaded to your phone like mine did, you can simply restart your phone in recovery mode (hold down power button, volume up and home during boot up when you see the Samsung Galaxy logo stuff) and clear/delete cache.
If you want to confirm that you did everything right, go to settings and system updates. The settings app should crash because that option is disabled.

Thanks! It is good to know the downloaded update is stored within the system cache (/cache) and can be easily deleted using recovery mode's wipe cache partition (format). Also, LOL I will be relieved to see the app crash. :victory: Edit: @wolferno Are you using the current version of Package Disabler Pro? In recent months people have been complaining about the software developer removing ability to disable certain packages (at Samsung's request) so they will no longer appear in the list (along with no changelog). System Updates is one of them so maybe they recently re-added it? I read this from reviews on google play store. Also, you might find this post interesting. https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69997702&postcount=11 I have the suspicion there may be more to disable to prevent other updates and patches from sneaking in.
Hy guys
I'm italian and I use my GS6 Edge Verizon (SM-G925V)
I have update my smarthphone to Nougat with OTA
All it's ok but there is only problem: the screen rotation doesn't work (gyroscope problem)
I wait some answers
Thanks in advance
Hey, i'm opening this thread since i've noticed that some other threads are used to talk about this.
As i have already mentioned it should be possible to show the screen content via http using my app (https://github.com/nerone-github/WebViewAuto) (or any other webview app to be exact).
Basically we need something which can pass user input (tap) from Car -> Phone, and the Image from Phone -> Car.
Now at least i can confirm that the second - Image Phone -> Car is not a big deal. It even works without root using this wonderful application
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.dvkr.screenstream
https://github.com/dkrivoruchko/ScreenStream
Now all we need is the input. So anyone got an idea how to do that?
I know that this is basically "against" the Android Auto concept of providing a distraction-free UI. But ultimately this will probably never be an easy thing to do, and probably just used by experienced and hopefully responsible drivers.

If i understood well, you succeed to have mirroring screen of the phone to the car with the above app? At least to see the screen, without tapping.
Can you write some details to try? What should write to the address bar of WebViewauto, and what settings to screen stream over http app?
You did this without using internet data?
If this work, it is very useful although not full mirroring.
Thanks,

Just use the IP and port you see in the screen stream app. If you're not connected to Wifi you can probably use 127.0.0.1 or localhost
All I really want is some way to use Android Auto without having to use Google Play Music -- it's horrendous.

It sounds good but can you describe it in more detail that everyone can understand it? The links to the regarding apps would be very helpful and maybe some screenshots. Thanks in advance.
I try this solution from OP in my car and it's working. I see my lockscreen and, if I unlock my phone, the writing "Android auto" with black background.
The problem is that AA overlays other apps and I don't have the ability to use Android normally. I try to disable the option that AA display over other apps but then AA always starts with configuration wizard.
Unfortunately, so far it's not a solution.

Use the integrated mini launcher to launch apps (lower left button).
I'll try getting back and menu button to work, but that will require root also.
Didn't test on phone with software buttons.

Works very fine. Audio, video and touch. It's really awesome!
Do you think it's possible to add a button to hide left bar (and android nav bar)?
If I turn off the screen of the phone, the mirroring is disconnected. Is there a way to leave it on?
I have wanted to move from my regular android head unit to Android Auto for a while, but some of my favorite things to listen to while driving to work don't have regular podcasts. So I have to watch them on YouTube. If anyone has used this, please let me know if it is working well. I really want to get a higher quality head unit, and this would definitely motivate me to do it. Here is a link to a video example of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9AjJW0H93Y

Yes it is working perfectly fine. I've just recently started using it. It also has inbuilt internet browser and u can also watch videos from your device's internal or sd storage. But i prefer using AnyAutoAudio app while driving because its much safer as it plays youtube on the background n u dont get distracted by the video too

Someone figured out a solution for this? Like making an Xposed module for the Google services.
I am also interested since, from April, it does not work with my daughter's displeasure anymore
there is a solution for no-root

You can downgrade the Google Play Service to 12.21.
It works. And also using Android Auto v2.95
But I choose mirroring app Android Auto over the carstream.

If you have no root, then you have to re-install the GPS every time its update.
If not, then you won't get the app working.
If you're rooted user, then you can use the lucky patcher in my case and searching for update in GPS and then disable the package.
In my case, I used the following step below based on my experienced:
1. Open LuckyPatcher
2. Tap search box
3. Search for Google Play Services
4. Tap the Google Play Services
5. Choose Menu of Patches then click Yes.
6. Choose change the app components
7. Tap the disable components 'pm disable' method in the first row
8. Then search for update and you can disable:
com.google.android .gms.update.SystemUpdateActivity (in tab Activities)
com.google.android.location.internal.NlpNetworkProviderSettingUpdateReceiver (In tab receiver)
com.google.android.lgms.update.SystemUpdateService
9. Just enjoy it! :good::good:
Already using this for months and no auto update for Google Play Services. But I'm using GPS 12.6.85 with the AA mirror and Android Auto 3.2.58 on rooted devices. And I'm not using the carstream again but using AA mirror and I can play youtube or even all of the apps on my phone in the head unit. FYI the carstream won't work in my version. I haven't tried it though.
Always Have a full functional Backup. Just in case!
Disclaimer: I will not be held responsible for any damage or loss caused by following those steps.
I use Screen2Auto on an unrooted phone which only seems to work on AA 6.4 or earlier.
Some people have commented that they are being forced to update AA to 6.5.
I had a notification that said something about a required update to AA. I tried to read it but it just took me to the AA update page in the PlayStore.
Are some people being forced to update AA?

I was forced to update now I'm trying to find a workaround.
Yes.
Do not proceed, un-install the latest update of Google Play Services.
If already installed the AA update, so remove the update of play services and re-install the old version of AA from April.
All good.
I uninstalled the latest update of Google Play Services and rolled back Android Auto to version 6.3, but Android Auto will not work unless you hit the update button.
it's not that I'm sitting here wearing a tin foil hat or anything.. but I think we should discuss workaround methods in private messages. Google obviously has some form of eyes watching these forums because everytime a workaround is discussed it magically gets patched not soon after.
Dear friend, you have news? ... I will have to take a long drive with my son. Can you help me?

So far, my Galaxy S7 (G930V) on Android 8 is still working with Android Auto 6.4.

I also have a non-root Galaxy S7 (G930V) on Android 8. Uninstalled AA last year as I've been screen mirroring using USB to my BMW MMI (no touch screen). If I now install AA (6.5 from Play Store), then I won't be able to install S2A with AAAD at this point? Should I try to find and load AA 6.4 and attempt the S2A install or wait to see if they'll be an update to S2A and AAAD that works with AA 6.5?

I was incorrect about the Android Auto version on my non-rooted G930V. I'm actually on version 6.3.611324.
I couldn't get my phone to work with AAAD. I installed S2A using ADB per the Automatic method instructions on the inceptive.ru website:

One question about this: does it download app data afterwards during your drive?
Additional question: can you also clear data and cache after being connected to Android Auto? I would prefer a Tasker task to do this for me. The idea is to clear data and cache as soon as I get connected to Android Auto.

Is your tinfoil hat borken? If so, just use the AM/FM radio or cassette player. If you want "free" from Google, you have to pay. Seriously, they make money by trying to target advertising at you.
What do you want to say me?
Tasker is an app which can automize things. For example it can automize the clearing of cache and data.
I wanted to clear data and cache automated so that I don't have to do all the clicks by myself.
I just want to know if I have to program the task to clear data and cache every day or everytime I connect to Android Auto...
