Is there any ways to copy Mi 6x Kernel to Mi A2 to enable double tap to wake or something else?
Even if you flash 6X kernel, you wont have option in settings to enable it.
If you want double tap to wake, flash miui 10 or AOSP extended ROM. Both works flawless.

I tried AOSP rom but fp is not available, face unlock is not available even reinstalling Gapps micro, and using Gcam is not working
I guess I have to wait for the update or other roms to come
I was thinking using kernel adiutor but I guess its not possible too on stock rom
Use custom rom for 6x not a2. You need to convert to 6x first. Flash AOSP extended, not aosp gsi rom. AOSP extended is oreo based and do not have any bugs, but you have all tweaks you want.
Use open gapps nano 8.1. face unlock works and everything else.

Hey guys,
Face ID from Redmi Note 5 Pro was recently ported to Redmi Note 4. Now it's working on our device too ( Mi Max 2). I have packed this port in Magisk Module. I personally tested this on Global Stable 9.5.1.0. You can test on your phone running stock miui. Download the file from link given below and flash in Magisk manager. Reboot the device and check if "Add face data" is there in lock screen settings. If it's there you are good to go. Follow the instructions in that option and enjoy.

It's working on my eu latest stable rom. Thanks
Can I use it on Global Beta ROM?
I tried using in on global beta 8.3.22 but it gave me a ui error just before system ui could start....making the phone unusable. Then....I guess it’s not working on global beta. [emoji12]

You can uninstall magisk to come out of that error. Then again flash it with required modules.
Works great for 9.2.1.0. But in 9.5.1.0 china stable(mi globe rom) face id works but pattern unlock stops working. You cant unlock with pattern. Need to modify the flash file.

I had to dirty flash the whole rom to solve it.
Do I need anything else other than module itself? Isn't it self contained?

If it doesn't work in first attempt. Then it won't work anyways.

Thats what I thought. Then you weren't answering me when you wrote to flash it again with the needed module? That's why I asked you whether I needed any other modules.

This is an outdated mod. I'll not recommend using it on new build. Wait for the official rollout.
miui 10 pro has it built in
Has anyone tested on MIUI 10 Beta Global?

Right now I am running global developer miui to bind my device. (gonna factory reset or flash the latest dev, not sure if I gonna lose the device bind which is 3 days wait)
Anyway I am planning to flash a custom rom, since lineageos and ressurection remix are not available officially yet and there are bugs involved still I decided to go with Epicrom which is based on miui global dev.
My question is which version of TWRP should I flash first?
I see there are several available by different developers, some with more features like redwolf (but with more bugs arguably) some ported from cm or other Xiaomi devices.
Which is the most stable and recommended at the moment?
I prefer my twrp to be thoroughly tested since I will be doing my nandroid backups and flashing of my new rom.
Thanks a lot.

Head over to lineageos thread by ashwinr in development section
You will find unofficial TWRP
So you would suggest ashwin TWRP version over redwolf, cm and the others available at the index?
Sent from my MI MAX 2 using Tapatalk
you meant this unofficial twrp is the best
forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max-2/development/rom-lineageos-14-1-t3759587
Suggestion
I would suggest RedWolf as the best ive been using it since it was released for mi max 2 and i havent had any errors plus it comes with added security as you can set a password on it to protect your recovery
in the end, all twrp versions so far are fully functional the only thing to be concerned about is the compatibility with certain roms. i.e. LOS 15.1 is only flashable with the twrp version included in the thread. otherwise no worries, just choose one and flash away!

Is the Google Camera Api 2 enabled by default on the official ROM or on the Xiaomi.eu ROM?
Magisk has an option to do it but I don't know if it's necessary or it can be dangerous.
I did with Magisk.
No danger.
But no obvious effect neither.

Enabled by default thanks to SD845.
Wrong section of the forum guys.
China stable rom locked bootloader (720h orz), enabled by default, just installed the google camera apk and it woked
There is alot unofficial roms to install A2. Which is your reason to unlock, root and install custom roms?
Maybe better performance, more fluid experience, more features like double tap to wake your screen, better battery life, interface changes like navbar button placement, full screen gestures etc. Stock is just boring. I am on Havoc ROM currently and it is by far more customizable and more fluid than stock. This is just my opinion and I am enthusiast and I love to try different things almost on daily basis, so...

Where can I find this Havoc ROM for Mi A2? Thanx!
https://sourceforge.net/projects/havoc-os/files/wayne/
Ofcourse, first you need to convert your A2 to 6X and flash via twrp. For gapps you can use opengapps arm64 8.1 nano.

Convert to 6x?
Isn't it more straightforward to flash treble gsi HAVOC 2.0 (more maintained)?

Yes convert to 6x first.
No it is not, because on treble rom there is a lot of buggs and I can not use that for daily driver. USB connection don't work, 4K recording now working, there is no fingerprint in settings, no fingerprint reader etc. Maybe that rom is more maintened, but that is not device specific, so expect a lot of buggs. We need dedicated rom with vendor and etc., not only system.img.
Try for yourself.

So after a few days scrolling through the forums, i realised that TWRP is not working on Pie update and it only works properly on Oreo Mi A2. I also realised that you can switch A2 to 6X and mod it using 6X TWRP etc2
Now I want to ask if you would recommend me to =
- Downgrade to Oreo
or
- Switch to 6X?
If i can, i would like to revert to stock so that i can still have my device under warranty (5 week old btw)
Not, Pie better, Miui 10 bagss

On my opinion, don't attempt to downgrade your OS because it may hard brick your phone. If you succeed downgrading, you may experiencing some hardware problems, such as WiFi, Bluetooth and etc. Google intent to disabling OS downgrade since Oreo (Anti Rollback Protection). About 6X MIUI ROM version, this considering as rooting your phone and Xiaomi are not recommending side loading the ROM. If you really don't want Android One Program (hating and can't wait to fix bug's like me), Custom ROM's maybe recommended for you which is offer on some forum threads. But I rather wait for the next future update from Xiaomi and I know they'll fix the flaws of this phone. And of course I don't waste my opportunity to experience free update on upcoming Android Q!
Oreo is ok the best, if you have unlocked bootloader and critical you can downgrade with no problem at all. I have done it after buged pie and other times after custom roms.
I have switched my A2 to 6X for so long now that I can't even remember. I see no point in going back to A2. All custom roms for 6X are much simpler to flash and handle. No dual partition bull****. Plus I can flash miui anytime I want either. I personally see no advantage of A2.
Come to the dark side. Convert to a 6X.

The last line is really tempting. I've been considering converting my Mi A2. Have you experienced any bugs after converting, in MIUI or in custom roms? Perhaps the camera bug?
Also, which rom are you currently on? Any bugs?

Essentially both phones are the same so bugs are almost non-existent. You know I've noticed some people complain about the camera bug but I am yet to encounter it, and its been months. But I always depend on gcam so maybe this is only on if we try to use the stock cam. Even if the issue arises, there's a definitive fix by changing the build.prop to whyred (I think).
I'm currently on Havoc 2.2. I think its the most flexible and customisable rom for our device. Of course you can try miui first and then come to AOSP based roms. One persistent bug in AOSP based roms is that notification light doesn't work (for me at least) and I've come to live without it. Auto brightness may glitch but fixes are pumped out fast enough. So far I have no reason to go back to A2 stock.
