Hello Everybody,
Recently i bought Nokia Lumia 625 Black, WP8.0, i was thinking Nokia 'll give me fab experience using their Lumia Windows phone but i am really disappointed using its restricted windows phone, the things which i don't like in Windows phone are,
1) Can't easily manage my files on SDCARD/exSdcard, i have download many pdf file in my lumia and i tried to copy them in my laptop but surprisingly i saw that there is no folder for downloaded file in phone storage or extSdcard.
2) Camera photo quality is not that good.
3) I Can't hide my application which i was used to in my Android Core mobile.
4) There is no much app in app store and moreover they are oldest and not updated, many of their app crashes, like whatsapp, truecaller, etc.
5) Can't easily manage your ringtones.
6) Third party call recording is not working.
7) NO DUAL SIM so what it makes you satisfied is its battery performance, thats it, really disappointed buying nokia lumia windows series phone.
8) No option for USB tethering for internet sharing.
my question is that is there any option to manage file on sdcard or extsdcard?
No official file manager right now, but on WP 8.1 there is an app called Pocket File Manager( http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/pocket-file-manager/56dd9c3d-fe0a-4ceb-84b0-043e58e55b19 or search for it on the app store ) that should be able to manage the sdcard files. Again, you have to be on WP 8.1 in order to use it.
Pocket File Manager works just fine on 8.0, and has full access to the SD card there too. The 8.1 version could add more capabilities, but you don't strictly need it.
Camera quality is one of those you-get-what-you-pay-for situations. You bought a budget phone, with relatively low specs aside from its screen size. What did you expect? It'll give better camera performance than almost any other phone in the same price range, but no, it's not going to match a iPhone 5S or Lumia 1020 that costs 4x as much.
Not sure what you mean by "hide my application"; can you be more specific? I've used Android but not extensively.
The third-most popular platform is going to be the third to get apps, or app updates. In my experiences the first-party stuff works extremely well and the stuff from close partners is close, but third-party is a crapshoot. You could try unofficial clients, if you want; it's not that uncommon for them to be better than the official ones.
How much easier ringtone management do you want?!? It's the top item in Settings, and you can add custom ringtones and message alerts to any contact anywhere you can tap their name (People hub, Phone hub, Messaging hub, etc.). Creating ringtones from media files isn't easy with built-in tools but there are plenty of apps which can do it.
Call recording requires hooks at a level of the OS that could also be easily abused by malware. Microsoft could make a special API for that feature, but they haven't done so yet. If this is a vital feature for you, you should have researched what phones support this feature before buying... Most people never need it.
Dual-SIM is supported in the latest WP version, which your phone is upgradable to (which, I should point out, Android phones often aren't...). However, your actual phone doesn't have dual-SIM. If you wanted dual-SIM, why didn't you buy a dual-SIM phone, like the 630?
USB tethering is possible on some phones - for example, I can do it on my Ativ S - but it's unofficial. Is there some reason the official WiFi tethering doesn't work for you? You can still plug the phone into USB to keep it charged while you do that...
Ah I didn't know it was out for 8.0 also. Thanks for the clarification GDTD
Hello - I am doing a pen test for a customer. They are not giving me the xap files like they did last time. Is there a way to pull the xap file off the phone and on to your PC? I have a dev unlocked phone which I can sideload apps using power tools. I have done some research and it doesn't sound like this option is available, but I wanted to ask.
Thanks in advance.
First of all, the phone doesn't store the XAP files (PLEASE search before posting! This question gets asked a lot). I assume all you really care about is the app binaries and manifest file, though. (You can rebuild an installable XAP from these if needed.)
There's a complicated series of hacks for doing it on 8.1 via the ability to install apps to the SD card. If you don't have 8.1, don't have an SD card, can't install the relevant versions of specific apps, or if the app is marked to not allow installation to SD, then that method won't work for you.
The other approach, which in my experience is standard in the pentesting world (which is my field as well), is to use a hacked/jailbroken/unlocked phone. Samsung (unless it has the very newest firmware versions) and Huawei phones can be unlocked by flashing modified ROMs. The unlock lets you sideload apps with vastly more privileges, such as the ability to read and write the install directory of any app. Using that, it's pretty easy to get the files you want. Such unlocks are also possible with some Nokia phones via JTAG, and possibly some other models too, but the Samsung unlock (which I and -W_O_L_F- found) and the ability to flash customized ROMs for Huawei are the easiest approaches.
On the offhand chance you're part of NCC group, PM me and I'll send you my work email address. If you're with one of our competitors... well, I actually don't mind helping a competitor that much either; some Deja Vu folks gave me a good tip lately though, and I've got friends at SI as well.

Thanks again for all your help. So my situation is this: I am doing pen testing for a client (and I'm sure we are competitors some what). The have provided me a Nokia Lumia phone running 8.0 and another Lumia running 8.1. The app is installed by their dev team (app is not avail from the store). They are reluctant to provide my the XAP file as they consider it proprietary info. I have done a dev unlock on the phone, but my primary goal is to view the isolated storage/dlls for the app to make sure they are not storing sensitive data. I am using the standard tools for viewing the isolated storage, but for these to work (best of my knowledge) they require you to sideload the application which I cannot due (not XAP file). I am proxying the traffic, but without looking at the file system there is not much I can do. As an aside, they are using MDM with jailbreak detection.
Whoa, somebody actually got around to writing jailbreak detection for WP8? Crazy. I wish I could see that; I'm sure it's trivial to bypass (at least for interop-unlock, the difference between locked and unlocked is changing a registry value and it would be easily possible to re-lock it, launch the app while keeping the editor app open in the background, switch back to the editor, and unlock/jailbreak again) but I'm amused that anybody even bothered trying. Also, the APIs you would need to do the detection aren't even available on 8.0, officially; you're in violation of the store rules if you use them. Then again, maybe this is an internal, "Enterprise" app; those have permissions to do stuff that typical third-party apps do not. Are you sure they don't just mean they have jailbreak detection for iOS? I see something about Office365 MDM offering JB detection, but while I suppose they could have written something for WP8.x as well I feel like I probably would have heard of it?
If the app was sideloaded by the dev team, then you can see its isostore using the official tools or using Windows Phone Power Tools. If it's an enterprise app and the app was installed that way, then things get more difficult (especially if the phone they gave you doesn't have an SD slot). Not giving a pentester access to the binary they're testing is silly on a number of levels; if you succeed in breaking in then you'll get it anyhow, and an attacker will have a lot more than a week or two to poke at it so they're wasting your presumably-paid-by-the-hour time if they want you to see how good their security is without actually examining the app. I bet they used obfuscation, too... Some people just don't get it. "Security" by obscurity... isn't. Sorry, end of mini-rant. Anyhow, there's a guy on the forum who claims to have a non-JTAG unlock for Lumias, but no idea when or if it'll see the light of day.
hi everybody,
I'm running Lineage Os 14 on moto g Thea, and the camera has a problem when activating HDR, it always gets jammed. Plus when opening gallery things get very slow. So I turned to other apps and found two options:
- google camera 2.7: works fine, but it still is a little slow in opening and rotating to landscape.
- one plus camera 2.5.4: it is very fast, but the flash is disabled most of the time because it reads excessive heat (impossible).
anyone has experience in this or can suggest a camera app?
cheers
update
the flash issue on one plus camera is gone after some use.
nevertheless, it has a problem with the panorama image composition, does not work properly so all panoramas are screwed up..
Alternative method but can help in something, maybe...
Hello my friend, I'm using google translate to communicate with you.
I also use lineage 14.1 however I use a camera and gallery of the motorola, updated until.
But I flash the zip after GApps before the first reboot, and right after configuring it, I upgrade through the play store, and then, with a file manager, I go to the / data / app folder and find the two camera folders and of the gallery, I modify ALL permissions within these folders to 777, restart and I have a gallery and camera 100% functional.
Optionally there are other options, but that's how I do it.
If you want to try, I'll leave the zip LINK that I got in a part of the forum that I can not remember where else.
Remember that I have no responsibility for any damage, it is a way of trying to help, but as I only tested on mine, I have no guarantee of anything
It was testing on mya the XT1078 with lineage 14.1 and root (of course), because without it I would have no way to modify the permissions.
Unfortunately my account is new so I can not pass the link to you, then remove the spaces and join to form a link:

Hello everyone! I have this device (with MIUI Global 12.5.3) for a month now and I have an issue, I cannot resolve: any downloaded file (pictures, documents, ebooks ... you name it), from any source (Google Drive, files downloaded with Chrome) is disappearing from the phone after 1 to 3 days, no matter what I do with them. I tried moving from Download folder to any other, tried to rename with Total Commander, rename in terminal (with Terminal Emulator) ... still some app or system service deletes them - not only from the Download folder but from any other location. Have anybody met this kind of behavior? Is there any solution?
update: the ROM is a plain MIUI Global 12.5.3 with no modification, no root, MI Unlock status is locked ... the phone behaved in the described way from the first minute, out from the box.
update 2: files copied by USB are fine

Hi at all,
Same issue here - my business files are disappearing randomly after a while after i download and move them to custom folders. (I use several webbrowsers to download and Total Commander to move or copy the files).
It's a pure disaster - my business files, work shift plans and so on get all deleted....
Anyone knows a solution to this issue, it's a killer bug?!
I no more can recommend the the phone, nor the company. Such a s***** mess..., they totally f****d it, honestly.
I disabled the security app, no more scans, cleanings or antivirus activities, all disabled, no change in this behaviour so far. More & more people are complaining about this issue, just search for it on the web.
Phone: Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro, no rooting -> Brand Firmware up to date (MIUI Global 12.5.10.0 (RJDEUXM); Android Version 11 RKQ1.200826.002.
Many thx in advance to whom who may help me and the rest of the users.

There's no solution, only a workaround: don't MOVE the downloaded files to their final location. If you COPY, it seems they will be "alive". If you move, even if the file is in the downloaded location for several months, it'll vanish in max. 3 days - just tried few weeks ago.
Meantime the phone is updated to Miui Global 12.5.6 - the problem stayed (so the AOD 10 sec. limit), i don't think they'll fix these "features".

Too too too bad XIAOMI. That is my LAST phone from you. Initially I was blown away from your hardware quality in a positive manner......BUT this is a killer function, like robbery in ones own home, coming back and finding things stolen.
I lost trust in you XIAOMI, and "trust" that is the most valuable good in the digital world - users should NEVER lose it in YOU. You totally blew it.
Thanks for N.O.T.H.I.N.G...... no more your devices. Back to SONY or SAMSUNG.
Thanks @blews.

My thoughts are the same: decent hardware for the price, but software wise is the worst phone i ever had. I never hated my phones until this. Maybe with a custom rom or root would be better but due to banking apps these are not an option.
I totally agree. The banking point just minimizes the options. It urges me to look activly for a new device...too bad.
At last, guess I found a working solution to this pain in the ...
Go to settings in the security app. There find the function "cleaning". In this subsetting just turn on "remember for cleaning". Set the remembering intervall to the maximum (e.g. 15 days).
Now the app asks now and then to clean in the notification bar. Just swipe the message to the side to close it. Nothing will be deleted this way...!
I remember that this remembering notification appeared by default as I first got the phone. In the brginning, there was no automatic deletion issue.
Hope this helps as I think it does on my device so far.....
Over and out.
I don't know... On my device I didn't gave consent to the security app's 'Terms and conditions' so I thought the app doesn't run. So, in my eyes one more issue concerning trust in a Xiaomi device.

No it seems to run in some kind of way, no idea how. Same with my app situation here, I had withdrawn all consents, still had that issue.
Other example is the file manager app or the carussel wallpaper app - the apps tell you in case of withdrawn consent the app would not work. But they still do! You leave the app and directly restart it, then it runs!
To limit the Xiaomi homecalling I use apps to block the outgoing connections selectivly...really good so far. I recommend apps like "Blokada" and alike whitch open a virtual VPN on your device, in which you can massivly filter whatever you want. Not only saves battery, it speeds the device up and of course gets you a little bit of trust back in your decvice - but not in Xiaomi.
Hope I could help you. Bye.
Update 02-13-2022:
Nope. Files still disappearing. Trying Total Commander update with new write permissions, hope it helps....
Update 10-04-2022:
At last....Files are not disappearing. I updatet Total Commander and received Updates from Xiaomi. Additionaly I configured the "Security" app as mentioned in the post above.
Thanks so far.
Sometime around September 2021 I created an app to display animations on the outer display while the phone is open and then completely forgot about it.
I made it because I missed the CL display of the old razr phones and wished my razr 5g had it.
The app is in a very unfinished state, but I thought someone might find it cool. It doesn't really impact battery life much for me and is at least kind of reliable about showing the logo when waking from sleep.
I have only personally tested it on the XT2071-3 with various versions of android 11, although I have received reports that it works on other generations of razr on a variety of firmware.
Update: I have since rewritten the entire app as of the beginning of 2023. The app is probably still a little unstable but I haven't encountered any bugs while testing it.
Demo (OUTDATED):
Note: this is the old version of the app, I will record a new video when I have the time.
In the video, I used the second half of the boot animation (located at /system/product/media/clibootanimation.zip/02_loop_cli.mp4), but I won't post a download for that since it may be copyrighted. You can very easily extract it yourself using a file manager capable of viewing the system partition (no root required).
I may consider adding an "extract boot animation" button to the app sometime in the future.
90% of the functions in the app don't work (everything should work now)
You have to close and reopen the app to refresh it after adding a video (you no longer have to do this)
There's a bug where you have to select the file relative to Internal Storage since I didn't implement the file selector properly. (I implemented it properly this time)
Notifications will pop up on the external display while the animation is running. (they no longer do so)
The animation still won't won't start after the device boots, but it will immediately start after launching the app.
Even if you aren't having issues with the old version I still urge you to update to this one since it fixes more bugs than I could keep track of.
Download: (see attached)
Note: The new app has a different package name, signature, and app name so you may have to manually uninstall the old app.
As promised I will be posting the source code on GitHub when I have the time, but before I do this I want to clean it up a bit and optimize a few things. You are still welcome to steal the idea and do it better.
Update: there was a bug in the new release that caused the app to crash when enabled on Android 12, it has been fixed in 1.1. I was not aware of this since I've kept this phone on Android 11 until now.
Great work. Nice app!
Would highly appreciate, if u can PM the link to download the edited animation video please.

A quick question, is it necessary the device to be rooted to use this app? cos the device is trying to install n then throws an error saying 'app not installed'. Am using a 2071-2 (unlocked at&t version) with stock android 11 rom.

sure, the animations are just 800x600 mp4 files. If they are within a certain range of that resolution, the app will resize the video, but it's a little buggy at the moment.
Finnally got it to work; magnificent, really love it; Big thx man
Nice Boss.. You're correct though... Battery life usage be almost nonexistent when you compare it to other things.

I am unsure if this works on the razr 2022, but I'm curious if it does. As I don't have one of these devices I can't tell you where the boot animation is stored if the location has changed.
Use a file manager such as "FX File Explorer" to access the system partition (doesn't require root) and navigate to "/system/product/media/". If the location hasn't changed you should find "clibootanimation.zip" and it should contain a file called "02_loop_cli.mp4". Just using that file should work. If it's not there, please let me know and I will send you the file.
If you manage to get it to work, please let me know as well.
Thx a lot. It works perfect on the razr 2022. It was as you said. With the standard file manage you cant reach the desired file. You have to download a more sofisticated one from the play store. Me happy. And again thx for this wonderfull app.
I'm just gonna leave this here for everyone!

Make sure the file is downloaded to the device, and you have to navigate to the specific location of the device using a file explorer, the file selector isn't coded right in the app, as specified by the dev.
