I got an exynos version (I think) and I am only able to get maximun 4 hours SOT. Lately it seems to have gotten even worse. I know this has already been discussed, but there seems No solution. Anyone been able to fix their battery life without compromising the phones cababilities?

Maybe use more wifi and disable the bloatware. Here's my package disabler pro list

Turn off always on display and developer options (except when you need it). Clear the cache through recovery once or twice a week.

I have always on display enabled and it doesn't really drain that much. I can still easily get 6h SOT or 2 days of moderate use. I would go through your apps to see there isn't one that could be dodgey, draining in the background but hiding under system usage.

I'LL be getting my snapdragon midnight black today . Been reading here for a few weeks. Been sticking my nose round the s9 area of the forum but I will sure report back after a couple of days.
Using the s9, for gaming and social media, browsing and crap and get a tad over 4 hrs. Lets see with my habits if I can get 5 or 6 with the N9.

Developer options has extra processes and features that get activated when enabled. That's more processes in the background, hence why it's called developer options. Its meant only for "developers" for testing and extra features.

Nice! The black looks awesome. I got the 6gb I don't play games. Got from Samsung and trading in my 2xl. Will be weird with having no root. I like flashing kernels and scripts here and there so that kinda sucks.

Never seen that mentioned anywhere here in 6 years on XDA...interesting, thanks! In my mind it's a hidden options menu, and we're not activating new options simply by unhiding it. Would be curious to know which specific processes are being activated and what type of impact they actually have on battery life... My bet is that it's very negligible.

I got the 6. I think the 8 is overkill for me. It's great for peice of mind but with much last galaxies that were 4 and 64gb of storage I always had about 30gb of storage left.
Also, I think I saw somewhere on this forum that the 6 and 8 version offer almost no noticeable difference as far as speeds. So far I'm loving the 6. For sure signal reception is alot better. I'm coming from the s9, prior to that the S8+ and reception and signal at work was garbage. I have alpt more bars now on the N9 and have verified speeds with speed test app.
I do game a bit pubg for the most part. I will need to try Fortnite on here but I am using one of there free themes (red one) along with good lock and it's a perfect fit.
I have never rooted my phones, but I am surprised really is there no root yet for the N9? I need to spend hours to see all the content on this section for the N9.

Wait until companies like Anker produce 3rd party batteries or wait until Samsung has them up in their store and use a 50% off code.
Battery time looks rather disappointing at the moment. Even the iPhone 6+ has almost double battery life from the screenshots posted here =(
Then go buy an iPhone
I'm worried that this may be another step backwards in battery life. Was annoyed a bit by my Note 3 doing worse than my 2 already...not sure I can stomach it going down more, 9991343212312.2323 pixels more than before and all...curious to see more results!

I know this is the s4, but its been the same for the note 3 as well.
Hey guys, looking for some input here.
Im coming up on the 14 day return policy for the nexus 6, but im really thinking of returning it and going with the note 4.
The only issue i have with the phone is battery life. My phone seems to gulp it down. Now i do have many battery draining features turned off and standby time is excellent. Its when i actually use the phone i get massive drain, whether it be facebooking, web browsing, or playing games, the phone loses a lot of life! My wife used the camera this past weekend for 20 minutes according to the stats and my percentage dropped 25%from 80% to 55% within 1/2 hour!
My brightness is also on adaptive at 35-40%. For the life of me, it just seems i cant stop the battery drain.
I know going to the stock note 4 battery is about the same, but Zerolemon is releasing the note 4 10000 mah battery later this month. I had the same battery on my note 3 and loved it, ive never killed that battery. Yes, itll be a brick, yes but im thinking id prefer battery over function.
I do love the nexus, especially the screen size and the front facing speakers, and i will lose those with the note, but having a dead phone by 6pm makes those features useless. Yes, i could charge the phone halfway through the day, but i was spoiled with the note 3 extended battery.
SO my question is, should i chance the nexus 6 and hope upcoming updates solve the drain, or should i dump it and go with the note 4 and extended battery.
Frank
TL;DR NExus 6 battery dies too quick, return and get note 4 with zero lemon.
I went from the Note 4 to the Nexus 6 and battery life is about the same. I was actually pretty disappointed with the battery life of the Note 4 considering i had a Note 2 where the battery lasted FOREVER! I had originally decided that i would bypass the Nexus 6 and get the Note 4 instead, and at first i loved it but after having to deal with constant lag and dealing with samsung's crappy radios i'm glad i picked up the Nexus 6 (Note 4 is my new alarm clock at home)
It seems that your mind is already made up.. just get the Note 4

Are you using stock ROM or rooted and/or flashed? Sounds unusual for stock. I'd check your network settings and make sure your preferred network type and access point name are correct for your carrier but if standby time is good that probably isn't it anyway. I'd look for an app which gives more detailed battery usage information and go from there.
after going through an S4 and Note 3.. Im glad to be away from samsung. They have amazing hardware specs but drag it down with their crappy touchwiz. It's really unfortunate, the s-pen is pretty great.

It seems the biggest drain is during use, not standby!

That is normal on any device. That battery for me is decent. However don't forget that you just got a new device. People always use new devices more initially before they settle into a normal use rhythm. Also I wouldn't worry much about the return date because this device is so hard to get that if you sold it yourself you would probably make money on it. Just give it time.

It's possible that something is wrong with YOUR nexus. I get 5 hours of sot with a stock rooted rom and greenify. Once I decrypt, ROM and kernel I'd expect 6 to 8 easy.

The battery life is obviously important, so it is certainly a dice roll on your part.
For me, I have a Note 2 and waiting for N6 to be available for me. I am so sick of Samsung forced apps and touchwiz. It's not rooted, but I don't feel like I should have to root it in order to get a basic OS without the addons being forced on me by the manufacturer, and then have the warranty voided because of it.

theres no such thing as "typical". we all use our devices differently, and have differing signal quality. you can really ever compare battery stats with another person because of that. only you know how you use your device. so the question is going to get changed.. by how you use your device, and your local signal quality, are you happy with your battery life?

Did you allow google to auto restore settings, apps, data at first boot up? Coming from a different device and OS version could have synced something funky that is causing this. I have noticed this before. Consequentially I never use this feature. I always set every device up fresh (same if switching Roms too in my book). I would try a factory reset at the very least. I have been trying hard to kill my n6 today with no luck, already 12 up time 22% battery left with 4½ hours SOT. Battery stats say I have 3 hours of life left.
Have google now on and going, 2 email clients syncing, g+ syncing, Tapatalk syncing, roughtly 4 active hangouts going, and updated 8+ apps from play store.
Been actively trying to duplicate a power day on this thing. With you experience, something is off with your description and worth experimenting some.
I did do the wireless sync due to some apps needing to recover data.
Maybe I'll try a reset and manually download the apps.

Ive had my phone for a couple weeks now. The first week I had it obviously I was playing around with it a ton and trying different Qi chargers to see how they work. My battery life was unimpressive at 8-10 hours. I was hoping to have at least a full days worth of time based on everything this is supposed to have.
Then I tried a couple things. I turned off the stupid fit application. I ran the battery all the way down until the phone literally turned off. Then I used only wall USB chargers to charge it up.
Now with the same type of usage 3-4 hours of screen time, Im typically getting at least 18-24 hours of battery life. I even managed 30 hours once. Anyway, Im extremely happy with the way this phone is holding up now. Obviously YMMV but I think if you find the right tweaks for the way you use it, it should last longer than you expect.

So Far Today by your stats i will give you mine.
@ 27% Battery Left after flashing Stock a 1.5 days ago rooted/decrypted
Screen is at 4:30:09 @ 42% Usage
Phone Radio 15:30:41 @ 4% usage
Wifi Active 3:24:12 1% usage
Held Awake 2:23:26 0% usage
App Usage 53%
I also have a persistent System (ADSPD) drain that while i don't know how much its draining app sucker puts it at 13.8% vs the next drainer of Android System at 7.3%
Just guessing maybe you are in a poorer signal area than I? Basing that on your phone radio using much more of the percentage?
For what its worth you saw my screen on time. GSAM is predicting 6h 58m total for the day if i run it to 0.
Hello everyone! I'm thinking of getting rid of my Note 4 and getting either a Xperia Z3 or a Nexus 6. Don't get me wrong, the Note 4 is a great device, but for the money, the amount of lag and terrible low-light and indoor pictures and pretty bad battery life is just too much for me.
The most important things for me are:
Battery life
Performance (multitasking)
Camera
All the blogs said the Note 4 was the device for me, but over the last 3 roms I haven't been able to fix ANY of these issues.
How's the Nexus 6? Are you guys generally speaking happy with it? Has anyone played with the Note 4 and could maybe shine some light on their opinion and experiences? Thanks!

I've had the note 4. Lived the screen and the software actually wasn't half bad but there was lag, especially in the multitasking section. Also battery life was pretty bad and the phone heated up substantially even with little usage and of course saying that it's not on latest android software (which isn't a big thing for most). Just got the nexus 6 a few days and was completely blown away by how solid it is. Speakers are much louder than the HTC one m8 in certain situations (Spotify streaming seems to be on par) but in the vine app the videos are super loud and clear. Being on latest software is great and the screen itself being a 6 inch 2k display is very useful and not over kill at all although I do with the screen was more on the cooler side. Last but not least the development community of course is outstanding in the nexus community so overall the nexus is a solid choice. I've also had the z2 which is the same as the z3 is great but if your a modder/developer than you'll stay away as there isn't much. Only thing going for the z3 is the screen and battery life. I consistently got over 5 to 6 hours of screen on time on the z2 stock which I miss but not enough to go back lol

If you don't mind me asking, how is the camera and battery life on the nexus 6? I have read multiple sites and videos. They're all over the place. Some say the camera is awesome while others no. Other sites say that the battery life is good. Others say it's terrible... How does it compare with the note 4 and z2? I'm more intrigued by the nexus to be honest. Haha.

Batterylife is about 4-5 hours screenontime depending on usage off course. And for me the camera is quite good (not Galaxy S6 good) especialy with sufficient light, pics are crisp and detailled and colors are quite accurate. I`ve had all the Notes too but the N6 will grow on you i`am sure. And it has very good speakers btw.
Camera is great, but I'm not a "picture taker". Love the app, A Better Camera. Takes full advantage of all 13mp. Battery life varies heavily on kernel and the settings you chose. I can go a couple days. I don't really worry about battery life though. Ex. I had 12% and ran a short errund, 20 min at most. When I got back battery was 93%. Hail to the turbo charge...

Lol well I never take pictures. I did however take a few shots when I got it. The pictures seem good but then again I'm no professional. The battery life is OK to say the least when I first got it but it settled down after a few days. I'm now on chroma ROM stock nothing changed but the rom itself and I just pushed over 5 hours SOT. On bone stock before I rooted I believe I was getting a little over 3 hours with heavy gmail refreshing/internet browsing(chrome)/xda /YouTube watching and mostly all on T-Mobile LTE with db of around -109 to -112 at the place I work so id say it's pretty good honestly. If you root and ROM like most people do then you'll exceed those stock limitations for sure as evidence of me.

I don't like to mod or root my devices. So it would have to be stock everything. Camera performance is important to me, as is the ability to spend the day being able to take pictures. I could kill my phone with an afternoon of capturing some snapshots. Haha.
Knowing that I wouldn't root my device, would you still recommend it? ^_^ thanks.

Yeah definitely. The phone itself is a beast. Love the form factor, the screen, the speakers, stock software. The camera itself is fast and very simplistic, although it could use more manual camera options like the s6, but I'm sure you can download a camera off the play store with such options and of course you can record video in 4k so overall its not a bad contender what so ever.

Just got my N6 Wednesday. Completely stock I'm getting 6-7 hrs sot. Web browsing, YouTube etc. Camera is OK but it's not something that is important to me. I don't take many pictures. Quick charge works well. I came from a note 3. It was a good phone but I like this phone better. Better battery life than I ever got with the N3.
Stock... You've got a great camera. Again battery life is good, its a rather hefty one, but depends on you. How you use it, WiFi vs data, downloads, streaming etc. Basically battery life is in your control.

I understand that. That's why I'm so ticked about note 4... My usage is minimal. I am on Wi-Fi 90% of the time. My phone has been off the charger for an hour and this is the first time I've picked it up in an hour and it's already down 4%. Samsung did something horribly wrong.
I also have an awesome Nokia dt-903 wireless charger which I miss using since I switched my Nokia 1520. Haha. So as long as battery is good enough to last a day with normal usage, like taking some pictures, browsing the web for 20 minutes a day, and answering whatsapp and line messages throughout the day, then I'm happy. I`am sure the N6 will not be a letdown i`am sure, i would advice to buy the 64GB version (if available) as there is no sdcard tray to expand memory. As for the size you`re hands and brain will be used to it within 2 days and after that most other phones will look tiny

Haha. No doubt. I have the note 4 now. Before I had the Nokia 1520, another 6 inch device. But that one wouldn't allow me to sit down with the phone in my pocket. Haha. And I was counting on getting the 64gb model. ?

For sure. Unfortunately Verizon only had 32gb. That being said I have had phone a while and have multirom with 2 extras. Still over 17gb left. If you need it, get it!

$50 price difference is nothing. I remember "needing" 64 on iPhone 5S and paid, what 200 more. Foolish

I understand that. That's why I'm so ticked about note 4... My usage is minimal. I am on Wi-Fi 90% of the time. My phone has been off the charger for an hour and this is the first time I've picked it up in an hour and it's already down 4%. Samsung did something horribly wrong.

Note looks like a great phone. If I had TMO or Sprint it would of been a tough call. Do they still have external SD?

Yep. I toyed with the idea of a note 4, then I remembered id had a Samsung before.

Thanks!

I did this switch and haven't looked back since dropping my note 4 for the nexus 6.
I've had the Note 4 , 2 of them between me and my GF, and have been using the Nexus 6 for about 3 weeks now..
My Note 4 experience has been nothing like the OP. I got great battery ( mostly on LTE all day ...RF around -90 to -105db ...SOT almost 7 hrs), neither of the two Notes heated up to an uncomfortable level, the camera on both N4s has been stellar and way better than the Nexus 6 ! The Note 4 had a bit of lag but that was resolved ( at least for me ) when animations were toned down to 0.5x under Developer Options.
If camera, especially in low light situations, and battery are your priorities, stay away from the Nexus 6 ! I love the Nexus 6 but not for its camera or battery.
If it wasn't my impatience for the latest FW w/o rooting, I would have def. kept the Note 4 ! I wish there was a GPE version of the N4!!
I have no experience with the Z3, so can't comment on that device.

Samsung is a good phone. TMO and Sprint service is pathetic. At least here. So having Verizon I went with S5 after years of apple. Glad I did. And thanks to whomever, I was able to get a developer ed. I do miss sdcard a little, but removable battery was NICE. Hardly ever had to charge. Just swap to a fresh bat. I think Sammy is going away from those perks now so now it would be an easy choice....
Yeah, that's what I keep hearing. I guess I'll stick with my Note 4 a little while longer to see what happens with Samsung and their ROMS.
I went to a shop yesterday and did a camera test, and wow... I mean, the detail on the Nexus 6 is fine... But ... What a difference in camera quality...
I've been a Samsung user since the note 1 days because I was attracted to the screen size. I forget which phone I originally had but it was an HTC phone with a 5 inch screen. Back then that old outdated phone and the note 1 were the largest phones available.
Anyways to my question, I currently have a note 3 and battery life is dreadful. I've always had 2 batteries for my phones since my Nextel days. I've never owned a phone without a removable battery so my question is to anyone that's owned a battery removable phone or owned an android phone without removable battery, how does the Nexus 6 compare? I've been with android since donut and it's always been a hog on the battery, especially since I'm a heavy user.

well, I'm a heavy user and my battery makes it through a full day without issue. I see about 5-7hours sot depending what I'm doing. but, then again, how you setup your device makes a huge deal, so does your signal quality. most everyone that I've seen doesn't knuw how to setup a device properly, some I've seen do.
Also a large screen guy that always had removable batteries. Note 2 and LG G2 were my last two phones. Not a heavy user, I get two days on a charge.
Highly suggest Franko's Kernal for battery life.
The new features in the last couple of Android OS iterations like Doze and Battery Saver really make the most of the Nexus 6 battery.
Doze is great but I really like Battery Saver. It automatically kicks in when your battery hits 15% but if I know I'm going to be away from a charger for awhile I engage it manually. It limits the notifications I get but it really stretches the battery.

just remember, the brighter you keep your screen, the fast battery will go. most of the time I keep my brightness from 0-15%, if I raise it to 35% then I lose an extra hour of screen on time.
I'm not sure why everyone says the battery life is horrible on the Nexus 6. I've not had any issues, esp with Doze in Marshamallow now.

I NEVER have battery issues, at all. AND my n6 never ever uses doze. to use doze, it has to be laying flat, and motionless. when I'm not using my phone, its in my back pocket.

Idk if you're speaking about me or others, but I was saying my N900v has bad battery life. I'm gonna be purchasing a nexus 6 since I no longer need the SPen. I just wanna make sure the battery is better than previous android devices that didn't allow removing the battery.

Is the doze app and doze feature in marshmallow, the same or very similar?
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
Well, I consider myself a heavy user, and I also once used Note 1 and 3.
Here is the thing, I only read ebooks alot on phones, not facebook.
Note 1 and 3, I got 10+ hrs SOT, reading (Black background and light grey text), disable auto brightness. I use LUX instead.
I also disable Google location history. (So no Google Now) (and I also disable all the Google stuff I don't use)
I get 2 days battery life on all three phones. With 40%+ battery life left.(Note 1, 3 and Nexus 6) - No root, stock.

I used to have a Samsung before myself. The battery swelled and Samsung wouldn't replace it. Nonetheless the Exynos chip and Knox pretty much did it for me so I'm done with Samsung.
Btw, for some reason I love that avatar LOL. Where did you get that ?

Battery life has been great with Pure Nexus and ElementalX. Usually get 6-8 hrs SOT over a full day of heavy use. I can go 36+ hrs between charging with moderate use.

Nice nice. I have had 1 Motorola phone and that was the first one they had on Verizon. Think it was called the thunderbolt. Only reason I didn't keep it was because I couldn't get H+ speeds on my GSM carrier, but the battery was awesome in that phone.

I've been having horrible battery life on Pie. I started on a clean slate then restored through smart switch. I'm getting max 5 hours of SOT on pie whereas I always got 8+ hours on oreo. I don't know if it's just me or anyone else is experiencing the same. Please share your battery stats so we can average out the outcome. If this continues, I'm definitely odining back to oreo.
Thanks

Nope, I am At&t went back to Oreo. Wasn't getting anywhere close to the 8 to 10hr screen times as a see some have. Best I could get was about 5hrs..granted I would have about 6hrs call time which is ok I guess, but still Oreo was better for me. But then again I never let my battery drop below 20% and I usually only charge to 90%..I never let it get down to the single digits.

I'm on T-Mo and have great battery life. 8-10 hours SOT. Mix of WiFi and LTE.
Actuakky I'd say an estimated 8-10 hours. I use the phone pretty heavy throughout the day. I'm on it for a couple hours after I wake up. Posting on here, reading my Bible app, checking the news, etc.
Then I go to the gym and stream music through Bluetooth for a couple hours. I usually check my phone occasionally and take calls while there.
Then I randomly get on it throughout the day and evening at home.
I average 1 hour of screen time per 10% of battery, but I haven't been able to kill the battery before bed to see the full 10 hours of SOT. And I charge over night. Though I have left it off the charger by accident and still woke up with a plenty of juice.
This phone is a beast that sips battery. And my Note 8 is doing just as well on Pie.
I'm not saying I don't believe you, I'm just saying something must be going on with your particular phone.

Or possibly an app that is not Pie friendly.
Exynos, always almost max brightness QHD+ and 50/50 4G+/wifi, 512/8 version
First one is Oreo, others are pie

I'm getting 7hrs 40mins average SOT
Exynos the battery is quite good.
Dual sim always, location high + wifi scan when wifi off, max resolution on (WQHD+), no AOD
On 4G i get around 5 hours SOT and on WIFI around 6 SOT
Those that are getting 8hours+ probably sometimes they are using the phone in airplane mode with WIFI enabled or not at all and a lot other things that they do not mention so please do not take them as "normal" people because it's not fair what they are presenting and does not reflect a normal day to day user.
As some noted, depending on the usage - the battery life on pie is worse vs oreo. For me it's also worse as I multitask a lot. The SOC CPU control is tuned differently for more performance. Sadly, it's leading to worse battery life while still lags massively behind the snapdragon 845 in performance. Luckily - it's a little bit faster. This is the reason why most likely those reports about lower battery life on pie will come from mainly exynos note 9 owners.
For me and my usage, it's not massively lower, but surely it's noticeable lower usage before need for recharge vs oreo. It's still ok. I am not so ok with the gutted multiwindow functionality and the rushed/bugged state (and that's funny given how many months the PIE update was in development + the beta).
I also saw some recent tests of those with exynos and update Pie with Antutu around 260000 compared to the test made on Oreo around 244000. It sees the CPU and GPU increase and a consistent decrease to UX and MEM.

Actually depends on the apps you're using, on wifi I got very high battery without airplane mode, which can make me go to 10 hrs of screen on
